Quicktime conversion for web...

am usually good at this!
i have a quicktime movie, about 270 megs (short).
i want to post it on the web; i tried making an mp4; set it up in dreamweaver, uploaded to the web, and all i get is the "Q" symbol.
i tried changing "mp4" to "mov"; plays locally on my mac!
what settings do i use to get a smaller-file, half-size, qt movie on the website??
and should it be an mp4, or sorensen 3, or??
thanks!

Please post a URL so we can check the page code and the .mp4 file.
270 MB's is not a small file. What software did you use to create it? What is its current size and what codecs were used? Use the Movie Info window to find out and post back.

  • Quicktime Conversion for PS3

I have the HV-20 and a PS3, I'm trying to put a test clip on a USB drive then watch in HD through my PS3. Sony says the PS3 can only use MPEG-4 format, so I used FCE to do a quicktime conversion and export the clip into the correct format. It comes up under MP4 (ISMA) but I could only get the custom field under image size to come up using just MP4. I messed up and used the 1920x1080, when the HV-20 only does 1440x1080, but still when I played it on the PS3 not only did it look horrible it was also in 4:3 instead of 16:9 ratio. Why is this? Can you tell me which settings will give the correct look on playback with the PS3?

OK, I just tried a size "passthru" export encoding and got a "unsupported data" error on the PS3 with 2.1 firmware! I believe these files had previously played back in 4:3 format (literally 1440X1080 with no horizontal expansion) using previous firmware.
The coding times are so long it is difficult to run through all of the possible combinations in a reaonable amount of time.
The file does play back in 4:3 in QT player. Evidently, the 2.1 firmware either disabled 1440X1080 video or added a check to refuse playback with no anamorphic expansion flag set.
In a way it kinda makes sense that QT would play it because it has to support odd sizes such as that, whereas 1440X1080 non-anamorphic would not be a standard HD format.
I opened the file in QT-PRO and scaled the horizontal width as follows:
    window-->show movie properties-->select video track-->visual settings-->uncheck "preserve aspect ratio" -->revise horizontal "scaled size" to 1920 -->file-export mp4-->options-video format "passthrough"-->save
The file now plays in 16:9 in QT, but still shows as "unsupported data" on the PS3.
from searching the web, I get the impression that the mp4 specification for horizontal scaling has somehow diverged from the original QT method. From there it seems to digress to people resorting to low level HEX editors to sort things out (good grief!).
    reference---http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=988006&postcount=2838
Actually, I am not sure why a scaling flag would even be required for true HD since there is no legitimate 1440X1080 4:3 aspect ratio format in the AVCHD spec

  • Quicktime Export for web

i have exported a video for web using quicktime and when i try to upload it, i wont play... i have the video uploaded (the actual .mov) but i dont upload another file that is exported (the .m4v) because is like 200MB and the .mov is only 4KB. how can i make the player on the web, play the .mov file instead of the .m4v? hope u understand... Thanks in advance.

How to make it smaller in file size than your original 5.5 GB file?
You just did when you used the "Export for Web" feature and it was reduced to 200 MB's in file size.
200 MB's is still much too large for Web use as your viewers will not wait for your file to download.
Break up your 25 minute "masterpiece" into 5 minute "chunks" or compress it further by using:
Export > Movie to QuickTime Movie
Reduce the data rate, file dimensions and choose H.264 video codec and AAC audio. Forget "stereo" to reduce that part of the file. Reduce dimensions to reduce the video part of the file size. Cut the "frame rate" by 50% to make even a smaller file size. Your Web viewers will probably not notice.
Do some tests with a one minute sample file to learn what works best for your file. Compare the new exports (side by side) by using the "Play All Movies" feature of QuickTime Pro.
After a few sample exports you'll quickly see which data rate, frame rate and video compression codec works best for your file.

  • Quicktime conversion for moving subjects

    Hi everyone,
I have filmed cricket and football matches and exported from FCE using quictime conversion (h.264) and then burned a dvd with Toast. The end result is that rapidly moving balls and arms and legs etc seem to flicker and a double image is seen. The rest of the pictures (slow moving/stationary objects) are crystal clear. When i viewed the exported quicktime files on the TV monitor they looked fine. I am wondering if there is a better option than H.264 for rapidly moving subjects, or is the problem more likely to be within Toast? (I burned at 8mbps and 4x)
    Thanks for any help!

Export to QuickTime Movie not to QuickTime Conversion.

  • Quicktime Export For Web files inaccessible

I accidentally posted this in the QT for Windows section, but I'm a Mac guy.
This is totally bizarre. As of this afternoon, all of the QT files (generated with Export for Web from QT7.6) that I've posted over recent days and weeks, on multiple servers, played back by different computers at different locations, running QT 7.6.4 and 7.6.6, OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6.3, WILL NOT PLAY. How is this possible?
If I connect directly to the original .mov file (as opposed to the "alias" .mov file generated by Export for Web), then it will play. If I connect to the .m4v file, my browser wants to download it, and then play it.
What's going on here? Apparently I'm not the only one to have this problem. Is this due to some sort of DRM update put in place on account of the iPad introduction? iTunes and QT have been updated on at least one of the computers I've tried this with, and it didn't make a difference.
    Hello??? Is anybody out there?

    Here are several examples:

Posted yesterday on my remote server (hosted by 1&1): http://www.adventureadv.com/cherry-proof1/index.html
In case you think I screwed up the original exported HTML file: http://vista.adventureadv.com/jackall/cherry-proof1/readme-cherry.html

Direct link to the QT file: http://vista.adventureadv.com/jackall/cherry-proof1/cherry-720.mov
Also, the server named vista is a Mac server running OSX Server 10.4-something - despite its name, it is not a Windows Vista machine.

  • Quicktime settings for web

I am making timelapse movies from a series of 5mp stills. What settings should I use for putting 30sec movies on the internet. I tried resizing in photoshop down to 320x240 about 15k per photo and it looks awful.

A 15 KB image file is kinda small by 2006 standards but if the file looked OK when viewed with Photoshop it should look the same in your Image Sequence .mov file made using QuickTime Pro.
Did you use the "Web safe" .jpg format in Photoshop or another file format (like .psd)?
Try these steps as a workaround:
Create your folder of sequentially named files using the .jpg format. Size them to 640X480 and target a file size in the 30 to 50 KB range.
If these look good in PS you can import to QuickTime. But here is the "trick":
Use a "Frames per Second" rate of 10 seconds per frame. Sounds odd but we can fix the file later.
Now you have a 640X480 .mov file that is encoded using the Photo-JPEG video codec that needs some more work.
Open any audio file and "cut" exactly 30 seconds. Use the right left arrow keys to "fine tune" and view the Movie Info window to confirm it's 30 seconds.
Save this as a new file (.mov).
Open your 300 second "video" movie and select all (Control-A) and then copy (Control-C).
Switch to your 30 second audio .mov file, select all and choose "Add to Selection & Scale (Edit menu).
Open the Movie Properties window (Control-J) and highlight the audio track. "Delete" the track.
Using the same Movie Properties window highlight the video track and use the "Visual Settings" to adjust the dimensions back down to 320X240.
Save As and check the box for "Self-Contained".
This should now give you a 320X240 "video" running at 30 fps. It should be in the 200-300 KB file size range.

  • Conversions for web

I have iMovie HD '06 and Final Cut Express and was wondering if there is a way to covert files created in these to .wmv files for the web.
I have done an export to Quicktime for the web and it is good but many web developers like wmv files for some reason.
Are there any special methods to convert it or freeware, shareware or anything else anyone knows about?

With Flip4Mac installed, Simply hit Export and navigate to the encoding format you want.

  • Export 1280x720 sequence to quicktime movie for web

Hi, trying to export a quicktime that is 1280x720 59.94 at photo-jpeg and compress it for viewing/download over then net.
    Unfortunately, compressor keeps crashing.
What are the easiest settings to accomplish this with? I've tried exporting a self-contained movie and exporting to compressor from final cut but get the same results.
    Thanks for the help!

I typically used H.264 or Sorenson 3. And I use the dimensions 640x360 or 320x180. Try those and see what happens. PhotoJpeg isn't what is typically found on the web.
And I export a self contained file then bring it into compressor. Or use a Compressor Droplet I created. I love those.

  • Quicktime export for web with Rapidweaver

    Hi everyone,
I am here as a last resort in trying to get an answer to this problem that I have with understanding how to do this.As we know quicktime creates 3 video file for us to cater for different speed conection over the internet. Great. I have published my movie files on my Siteground server and I can play the ref/movie there with no problems. Great. Now in RW where would I put the code created by quicktime for the 'head' of the page and for the 'body' of the page??? I am having all sort of confusion issue as to what to do. I have contacted the RW team but they wont support a third party app. the forum has nothing to say so I am here hoping that I will strike lucky with some of you.
Thanks for all your time and support.

  • Recommended Quicktime settings for web-use

    I am preparing a standard definition video ( 640 x 480 )
about 7 minutes long to be used on a website.
Am I alright with H. 264 export as a Quicktime .mov file,
or are there other settings / means of compression that
    would be more favorable.
It is an older version of Final Cut - 5.1.4, and I am not seeing
    anything for Flash, etc.
Thanks for any help / tips,

Several threads discuss creating h.264, then renaming the file extension to .flv Seems to work for end users who have Flash v.9 or 10.
Never tried it myself, but check the link for additional info.

  • Using Compressor to create QuickTime file for Web

Have: a 2 minute clip, shot in HD, edited in FCP7. Exported it as a FCP QuickTime movie, 1080i60, size is 441MB.
Need to: take that QuickTime file into Compressor and create a much smaller file, which will ultimately be converted to Flash and posted on a Web site. Have tried various QuickTime outputs in Compressor -- the resulting files are either too large, blurry, or lose the widescreen aspect ratio.
    Please, help.

    Here's what I would try:
    QuickTime Movie: h.264 compression @ 1500 Kbps
    Screen Resolution: 640 x 360.
    Audio: AAC @ 128 Kbps.

  • Making quicktime tutorials for web broadcast

I would like to create a series of 'movie' tutorials on various aspects of Photoshop. I would like to do voice-over what I am doing at the same time on the screen.
Is there a way for me to record my voice at the same time I am working on my (duo-core) iMac capturing both simultaneously then editing for final output as an MP4 file?
Might someone point this right-brainer to a tutorial that would help in this task? Perhaps there is a new book that goes into all the creative stuff one can do with Quicktime 7 and MP4 technology?
    Thanks in advance
duo core iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You should get Snapz Pro X v2, it can record movies that include the microphone input:

  • Aspect ratio problem with Quicktime Conversion from FCE HD 3.5

I have a FCE 3.5 HDV project (16:9 aspect ratio) which I am trying to export using Quicktime Conversion for eventual web-streaming. I have tried various settings including "maintain aspect ratio" and the "letterbox" options. After every multi-hour attempt, the end result is just what I need, except the aspect ratio is always 4:3 and vertically squeezed.
What settings should I use for a small to medium sized version of my movie for streaming on a website, but in the correct aspect ratio? I'd prefer a 16:9 Quicktime frame, or at least a 4:3 Quicktime frame with black bars.

I too have been having some problems, same software. Export to iPod completely ignores the intended aspect ratio and is non-adjustable and squeezes the footage. It looks fine on the canvas but gets messed up on export. A 4:3 video that should be 640x480 ends up being 640x426, and a 16:9 video that should be 640x360 looks to be getting 640x426 as well.
Currently, my work-around is to export to DV file, then export to iPod. Being a double encoding, it is quite wasteful in terms of time and processing power. Is there something else I can do?

  • Instead of Compressor went Quicktime conversion (still problems)

    Hi,
Thanx for all the suggestions regarding compressor. I didn't even consider doing Quicktime conversion for my DVDSP2. I did this last night with a two pass knowing it would take along time. After about 9 hours with some 18 to go ( the piece is 78 minutes) I got two errors, one from my system and one from FCP. FCP simply said "Out of memory". And what I'm assuming was from my system with the yellow triangle and exclamation point. "Your startup disk is nearly full. You need to delete some files."
What I don't understand about these is that I had "video" as my destination. This is a drive within my firewire drive that I had earmarked for just video and it has 23GB of memory in it which should be enough for this piece. Am I wrong?
I know that the other internal drive that I have just for graphics such as video does have a lot on it. A 200GB drive, it only has about 5GB left of memory. Can anyone enlighten me or point me to some articles.
    Thank you in advance,
    John

Your system drive functions as a virtual memory device. When the software you are running requires more memory that the physical ram you have, the hard disk pages in and out of RAM as needed. Since your spec doesn't mention ram below, I don't know how much you have, but once it filled, overflow started to fill up your system drive. If that becomes full, the system itself could shut down.
You can think of the disk as a pantry and shelf space and RAM as the kitchen table and counter top. When you run out of space for food preparation, you can put stuff back in the pantry or put partially prepared recipes on shelves for later completion.
And please don't call disk space MEMORY - it is not memory. Memory is RAM. Disk space is storage. Also, I should mention that the efficiency of your hard drive drops off SIGNIFICANTLY once it gets over 90% full.
    make sense?
    Patrick
