QuickTime could not remove the previous version.

Hello. I tried to update to the most recent iTunes, but the infamous Quicktime error shows up. So I deleted both iTunes and QuickTime from my computer as best I could. I even went through my entire registry deleting anything QuickTime, but I still get this message.
I also installed Windows Install Cleanup however it was not in the list.
So at this point I am not sure why it isn't installing properly. Ideas?

I also installed Windows Install Cleanup however it was not in the list.
Open up your CleanUp again, and have a look up at the top of the list. *(Don't remove anything at this stage.)* Are there any entries there that don't have a name, but just show "All users" and the version number in square brackets? If so, what version numbers are you seeing?
(Sometimes if an msi is damaged in the right/wrong sort of way, it shows up in CleanUp without the program name. So we're checking for a QuickTime .msi like that ... but other things that ought not to be removed also show up in there without version numbers, so we don't want to go deleting stuff willy-nilly.)

I think we'd better see if some other application (other than QuickTime itself) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in the system files on the PC. (If there's a version mismatch between the old componentry and the "QuickTime proper" componentry, that can create those symptoms.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Why does Photoshop Elements not remove the old version after installing an upgrade?

When I install a new version of Photoshop Elements, it converts the old catalog but does not remove the old programs.  I just installed PS 11 over PS 10 and it did not remove it.  I have had the same problem with each upgrade.  I have to manually uninstall the old version.
    Thanks.

It's good to have the software you paid for
Uninstalling the older version post an upgrade might be discomforting to many users, so...
Catalog conversion works fine irrespective of whether you uninstall or do not uninstall the older version since the catalog folders are not touched during uninstall.

  • 2014 update did not uninstall the previous versions

When I got the 2014 updates, none of the installs deleted the previous version.   In addition people are complaining that if you uninstall the previous version by hand, then the new version fails to work correctly.  What Adobe has done here is very confusing, and I would like a better explanation than I'm seeing.

Is it possible to get the system to Prefer QT 7 Player?
I am happy to never use QT X again.
When you start QT 7 player, under the first menu there is a "Registration" menu item.
Enter your name and Registration code, THEN hit the TAB KEY. Do not click the "Buy..." button.
    That should do it.

Sorry to hear this. What have you tried in the way of troubleshooting? Have you tried running from a new user account ?
This really isn't the best place to reach out to Apple. It's a user-to-user forum. A very long shot, but you could contact an Apple retail store and possibly they'll be able to help…but that assumes you didn't update your project and events if you need to work on any of those shows.
For some time, contributors here and other FCP forums have reminded people to follow Apple's best updating practices and archive the pre-update version of the app as well as their projects and events. Absent those archives, there is also the possibility of doing a restore from Time Machine (or some other BU utility), if used.
    Best of luck.

I am trying to install itunes7 , but about half way through the instalation it stops and asks me to locate "itunes.msi". I deleted all of my apple / ipod related files , but it still doesn't work. Help please.
    thanks

I am trying to install itunes7 , but about half way through the instalation it stops and asks me to locate "itunes.msi".
with that one, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

  • Babylon can't realise the clicked words (problem withOCR) only in FF4 not in the previous versions

    I use babylon 8, FF4 and win7

I've determined that building the dialog via XUL will fix the problem, but I had default values loaded into the textInput fields based on what they did last. To pull off this same functionality in XUL, I'll have to rebuild a new xml dialog file everytime a user opens it up. Ugh! This is a bit of a nasty bug for me, it would be nice if there were a workaround so I could keep using swf files for my dialogs!

  • I upgrade from the previous version to Firefox 4.o, I can no longer connect to my work HTTPS website.

The site I connect to is my citrix account at work, which needs a certificate. I could connect with the previous version of Firefox (3.6). When I upgraded the browser I got the errors mentioned earlier. I changed the setting for the specific setting from false to true. I still unable to connect and got a different error. Could someone please help! Thanks - Aldo

If you used the option to delete settings, or whatever it is worded when uninstalling, Firefox will remove all your important data information from profiles for all installed versions of Firefox, and you will then need luck and a file recovery utility to try to restore the information.
You mentioned files being moved to Trash, I was hoping you may still have the required original files. I use Windows XP, and I realise Macs use different locations for files, but I think the files have the same names.

Note the last article discusses problems when bookmarks are lost, and some of the possible reasons and solutions. Obviously I do not know what has actually happened in your case, and whether or not you used the delete option I initially mentioned.

  • Removing all previous versions of IronPort

I have been tasked with automating the install of IronPort . It has come to my attention that many different versions of IronPort are already installed (going back to version1.x). Can anyone confirm if the current 7.x installer will recognize those very early versions and uninstall them, or failing that, if there is any kind of removal tool that will?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hello Mike,
the answer can be found in the release notes for the plugin:
To install the Cisco IronPort Email Security Plug-in, you need to uninstall any previous versions of Cisco IronPort Email security plug-ins that you may have installed. This includes:
    •    Any previous version of the Cisco IronPort Email Security Plug-in •    Any previous version of the Reporting Plug-in (also called the Complaint
    Plug-in)
    •    Any previous version of the Encryption Plug-ins (Desktop Encyrpt or Desktop Flag)
BTW, last version before the current Cisco Plugin (version 7.x), was 1.8, this big jump in versioning is caused because we combined a number of different appliacation (spam, encryption) into a single plugin. Also it was always nessesary to remove the previous version of a plugin before installing a new one, so this is why you'd only find one installed instance on an user's PC.
    Hope that helps,
    Andreas
