Quicktime crashes on startup/launch in Snow Leopard
I've Googled and cannot find a solution!
Every time I launch Quicktime or Quicktime 7, it chrashes immediately. I can submit the error readout if you think it will be useful.
I've tried deleting the user .plist, and creating a second account and launching in there. I've also tried downloading Quicktime 7 for Snow Leopard from Apple and I experience the same problem.
Could you offer suggestions on what else I could try?
Thank you,
Eric
Maybe you are using something like NTFS-3G?
Maybe this thread has something for you...

Oh, sorry I just noticed that you have read or posted in that thread, but didn't like the answer?
You get strange results with many 3rd party products. I don't use Bootcamp at all. Parallels 4 works very well with Snow Leopard and none of this booting back and forth hassle. Windows is just for research, use the Mac side for performance.

My Desktop Mac won't startup, it turns on to the grey screen flashing question file. I have been able to startup from the snow leopard install cd but once I try to repair within DU the disk never appears in the side panel. The only thing there is "Media"... What can I do? Help!
If Disk Utility cannot see your drive it doesn't look good.
You could try DiskWarrior. It is expensive but can often fix directory structures where DU cannot.
Replacing the drive is also a strong likelihood. If you don't have a fairly recent backup, then it might be worth buying DiskWarrior

Compressor 3 crashes on launch under Snow Leopard 10.6
Hi all,
I am hoping that someone can help me. Everything was going along fine until yesterday when I installed 10.6 Snow Leopard on my 2 x 3GHz Dual-Core Mac Pro.
When I try to launch Compressor 3 (not the new 3.5, which I ordered last night out of fear that I'll never fix this problem), it crashes with this message: Compressor quit unexpectedly.
I tried to use Compressor Repair, which did not resolve the problem. Then I used FCS Remover to deinstall everything. After a complete reinstall, including software updates, Compressor still will not launch. Also, from within Final Cut, the option to export using Compressor is greyed out.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Or can you help me decipher the crash report? Thank you in advance!

Adobe Illustrator Crashes at Launch in Snow Leopard 10.6.1
I have migrated to a new Mac Pro quad-core 2.97 Xenon from a 2.5 dual core G5. I had been using Adobe Illustrator CS4 without any problems until i tried using it under Snow Leopard. Now it crashes after displaying the toolbars every time. I have completely uninstalled an re-installed Illustrator with no change. I have created a new user and there is no change opening it under a new account either. I have booted in safe mode with no fonts and still no difference. What is there left to do?

Photoshop CS5 Crashes on Start Up after Snow Leopard Font Update
Great!
Updated what I thought would be a simple update to the Snow Leopard Font 'thingy' did the update and install then went back to doing some work
in Photoshop CS5 - only for it not to boot up as it did fine before...
Luckily I still have CS4 installed and that opens and runs fine.
The rest of the Master CS Suite all open fine - no crashing - Just photoshop is the one that will not boot up.
Thanks!
So... tomorrow I am reinstalling 10.6.3 - im hoping the 10.6.7 combo is still fine...
But my advice steer clear of the Snow Leopard Font updater... its messes up Photoshop CS5!
Here is the crash report... anyone who can shed any light... I'd be interested to hear...

Is there anything special about your video setup (e.g., dual cards, etc.)? What card(s) do you have?
More on OpenGL and GPU operation in general here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404898.html
I know of no way to get Photoshop to allow you to configure OpenGL via a Preferences dialog at startup (though there are ways by holding particular keys down to configure other things, such as scratch disks and the extra plug-ins folder). There is a registry tweak that will block Photoshop from trying to use your GPU, but Adobe doesn't want that info given out freely.

Crashes while trying to reload Snow Leopard from the disc.
I am trying to reload Snow Leopard onto a MacBook Pro. It crashes every time I attempt it. When starting up without the disc, I get a folder with a question mark. What is wrong? When attempting to start up using the Snow Leopard disc, it crashes.
Any suggestions? The folder on the question mark is the firmware telling you it can't the bootable volume it was told to boot from.
It might not know, or it's gone or the drive is dead or some other issue it can't find it.
Hold the option/alt key down on a wired or built in keyboard and boot the machine into Startup Manager, there you can select from the bootable options if they exist or not corrupted.
Also the disk can be inserted and booted (and ejected) from here as well.
If after booting from the disk it crashes, the disk is likely bad or not compatible with that machine.

FCP7 Crashes all the time in Snow Leopard
I upgraded to SL a few days after the release and since then, FCP7 crashes at irregular intervals.
For example, it first showed up whenever I saved a project, it would save and then immediately crash.
Now, I am exporting a number of projects to quicktime movies and at no set interval, it ill just crash and give me the option to send a report. It generally happens at the start of the export.
I also tried a complete reinstall of the suite, but it hasn't changed anything. I also tried trashing the plist file from preferences.
I saw in another post that only down to Thread 0 of the report was needed, so here is mine.

Illustrator CS4 will not launch under Snow Leopard
Hi there,
I've just done a clean install of Snow Leopard on my Mac. Here's what I did.
1) Installed Snow Leopard 10.6
2) Installed all OS X updates (including 10.6.1)
3) Installed Quark Xpress 8.12
4) Installed Adobe CS4 Design Standard
5) Installed all Adobe updates (no updates related to Illustrator)
6) Installed Extensis Suitcase Fusion 2 (v13.2.1)
Photoshop launches fine.
When I launch Illustrator it crashes just after the splash screen appears.
Any ideas please?
Can't find anything on web really - if can't get an answer soon then I'll have to go back to Leopard .
Thanks,
Mike.I would suspect Suitcase and perhaps a corrupt font might be causing this issue and the data base is now corrupt.
However before really pointing the finger at any software try this remove all unessential fonts then
do this
first quite Illustrator and then;
I would go to Users/username/Library/preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings folder and trash that settings folder.
then see if Illustrator is running fine. If not try a new user account if it is running fine under a new user then I would think it is font data base. -
Xcode fails to launch on Snow Leopard
If I attempt to launch XCode from the dock (as a standard user), I simply get an error message (see end of his message). The same happens regardless of the way XCode is launched, ie, from Spotlight, from the Applications folder, from the Applications stack. However, if I switch to an administrators account, I can launch XCode successfully but ony if I launch from the dock; Spotlight launch fails with the same message.
I tried to redownload XCode from the App store but the App store version only supports Lion. What can I do about this apart from the obvious upgrade to Lion which I don't want to do just for the sake of XCode and am concerned about corrupting my bootcamp partition which is vital for me. I can't risk the upgrade to Lion if there is even an outside chance of losing my bootcamp partition as I have heard of from various forums.
Although I am an experienced windows developer, this is my first foray into developing for OS-X/iOS platform so I haven't got off to a great start.

Sign in with the same Apple ID you purchased it with. I purchased Xcode 4 for $5 when I first got a Mac. I updated through the App Store through 4.2 before eventually updating to Lion. You can see Xcode for Snow Leopard still appears in my purchase list. I can't test this because I don't want to mess up my install.

Quicktime 7.6.4 WORKAROUND on Snow Leopard Just Discovered
Hey All -Well all of you that want to stay on SL and use Quicktime in its native form, I have a break though (I think) ha ha
When I first installed SL -I didnt install QT off the SL disc-when I went back and tried it later -QT 7 just locked up on me-So I reverted to the 10.6 Time Machine backup -
Well I then partitioned my HD into (2) and installed 10.5.6 on it to test some things-Well it just so happened that I am working off my SL partition and was watching some movie trailers and QT 7 PRO is in my (open with) list- and its works -
QT 7 PRO is not in my utilities on Snow -I used Spotlight to find it and sure enough it is on my partition with 10.5.6 and its working on my SL partition.
Some may feel different about this but all I know is its working on SL and I have all my exports back in QT 7 PRO on SL partition
MattThe thing is, "Quicktime" is *not an application* & won't show up as such anywhere. There are two available versions of the Quicktime Player application, both supported by the Quicktime frameworks built into Snow Leopard. It doesn't matter if the installer adds the version 7 player to your system automatically because you have a QT Pro license & do an upgrade install, if you use the OS installer option to install it (applies to both upgrade & clean installs), or if you do it as a separate install from the extras (also applies to both upgrade & clean installs) -- its just an application, & like all applications it depends on OS services running on the startup volume to work. This is the only "native" version of Quicktime (the service) available in Snow Leopard. If the startup volume is running Snow Leopard, then that OS is providing these services, regardless of where you put the application.
If it doesn't, there is something wrong with your installation, your hardware, or the files you are trying to play. Period. -
IWork files refuse to launch in Snow Leopard
I upgraded to Snow Leopard today and All iWork apps refuse to launch. They close in a few seconds without any crash report. Any suggestions?
Grab the official list of fonts installed by the system:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1642
I will search if there is a new technote listing the Snow fonts.
Disable those which aren't listed here.
Then try to enable them one by one to identify the culprit(s).

My hard drive crashed on my macbook about a year ago. I bought a brand new hard drive and brand new full install snow leopard discs single user to install on my empty hard drive. about a year later the hard drive crashed again, but it was still under warranty so i sent it out to get a new one. now when i try to install the same snow leopard disc, it says it can not be installed on this computer. I feel like I've been ripped off now, because i have no operating system on my computer and i already spent $129 on the snow leopard disc a year ago. Is there anything i can do to install this? I also have an iMac, I heard you can take the operating system from that or something? I just need my macbook back.
Is there anything i can do to install this?
Yes. Boot from the installation disc, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, select the internal drive, and partition it with the default options. Then run the Installer. -
Some webcam drivers (Quicktime Components) no longer work in Snow Leopard
I have two webcams, both of which worked before the update to Snow Leopard, both of which no longer work.
They are recognised by their own utility applications and I can see the video, but the QuickTime components used to transport this video to other programs eg Skype, simply do not work.
Does anyone know why this is? Is there anything that can be done about it?
Is it something about QuickTime that got removed or changed in the update? Can this be rectified? Does it require the vendors of these webcams to rewrite their drivers (I can't see why they should)?
The webcams in question are:
Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000, previously working via a Sonix driver for the chipset it uses, that was modified to recognise the product ID of the device. Partially working with Macam.
Creative PD1000, previously working with the Macam component.
Macam works, just not the QuickTime component.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.K T wrote:
Have you updated Skype to the snow leopard compatible version?
Yes. Nothing to do with Skype, although latest version of Skype has huge problems on it's own anyway.
Many plug-ins need to be updated, and I wouldn't be surprised if you had a codec involved that might need updating as well...
Well that does seem to be the case, although I can't see webcam manufacturers updating their legacy products' drivers just for SL.
Does it require the vendors of these webcams to rewrite their drivers (I can't see why they should)?
You don't? Do you know about the 64-bit capabilities that are now part of Snow Leopard?
Uh, yes, but surely 32-bit plugins still work? System Preferences does just fine with 32-bit preference panes.. surely they wouldn't just yank out support for hundreds of old webcams without saying anything?
I'd really like to get Apple's official take on what's going on here. in the Macam forums, soo many people are reporting broken webcams under Snow Leopard.
