Quicktime created on MAC won't play on PC

Help...I am just trying to make a simple slide show. I used iPhoto, created slide show then exported to Quicktime. I then saved on a flash drive, took it to work and imported into a PowerPoint. Getting the following message...
Quicktime and a MPEG 4 Video decompressor are need to see...
When I created the powerpoint on my Mac, it played no problem. I tried going into FCE and saving to quicktime and also iMovie..still no luck.
I prefer to use the iPhoto slideshow option because I am just looking to play a continuous picture loop. I don't want to spend time creating movie in FCE or iMovie.
THANKS for any help...
iPhoto 6.0

The file is just over 9 Gigs. It is 25 minutes long. I made a mistake in my earlier post; it does not have any audio. It is in DVCPro 50 NTSC format and it works fine on my Mac but when putting it on a PC, I just get a white screen. It seems to play the file but because there isn't any audio, I can't be sure. When I press play on Quicktime PC, it starts playing without any error message at all. I get movie info and it gives me the same info that I get in my Mac: 720x480, DVCPro 50 NTSC 29.97 frame rate. I want to do some colour correction on my PC before I transfer it to tape so I don't want to use any compression other than DVCPro 50.

    Hi,
I have a Quicktime movie that was created using IMovie on a Mac. It plays fine in Quicktime on a Mac but not on a PC. I have Quicktime Pro 7 on both Mac and PC. The .mov is DVCPro 50 NTSC with audio. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Ref Movie created on Mac won't play on Windows machine

I created a Ref Movie on a Mac. Copied Ref Movie and full movie to a WinPC. Got -2048 error. Could view full movie. Also, Ref Movie file size was reported as 0k on WinPC.
Used WinPC to access and run both movies from the Mac. Same problems.
Created Ref Movie on WinPC, copied both to Mac. Mac played the both just fine. However, Mac reported file size of the Ref Movie as 0K.
Can I created Ref Movies on a Mac that can be used on a WinPC (I realize full movie has to also be available on WinPC)?

Turns out the problem is file system related. When OSX copies a file to a Win machine, it also creates a hidden file with additional information. It my case, OSX is creating the following two files on my WinPC:
    MyRefMovie.mov
._MyRefMovie.mov (a hidden file on a Windows machine)
The application I use to create the ref movie seems to generate my problem, because it is putting the ref movie data into the hidden file, not the unhidden file. Apple's MakeRefMovie utility puts the information into the unhidden file. The behavior of creating hidden files is part of OSX (though there is a utility called BlueHarvest that can control it), but what goes into the files seems to be an application level issue. Hope this helps others who have the problem.

  • Quicktime 7.6.4 won't play h264 encoded videos on my 10.4.11 MacMini

    Hello:
This is my first post. I read through the forums and this seems to be the correct place to pose my question. If it's not, my apologizes.
I'm trying to find out why Quicktime 7.6.4 won't play h264-encoded video on my MacMini (G4 PPC). I'm running 10.4.11. I recently installed Perian 1.2.1 and it got some .avi files to play correctly, whereas before there was no sound. But the h264 files still get me a black screen, albeit with sound now. Some h264 files can be played in VLC Media Player (but that's a horrible player compared to Quicktime in my opinion, as it constantly drops frames and eats 100% of my processor time), but VLC even has the black screen problem on some h264 files as well.
I've also tried MPlayer OSX but that's really an alpha-type development and has a lot of bugs. Many movies it can't even open.
Sorry for the rambling, but again my question: Is there any way to play h264-encoded video in Quicktime 7.6.4 on my Mac?
Thanks in advance for your expertise and advice.

    Mr Ram,
There is a group of Quicktime specialists in Apple.com ⇒ Support ⇒ Discussions ⇒ Quicktime .
The more data you give us, the easier it is to help us help you to diagnose your problem. Your disk space would be very useful. Contrary to some, I advocate iDefrag to assist VLC and MPlayer, which you were a little hard on.
    GNU/Linux's free offerings
MPlayer was developed a decade ago, and I prefer it for viewing DVDs (for 'DVD Player') seems too dark. VLC (legally) copies many CRM-protected DVDs of yours, so you can play only the burned copy. When I'm having a problem playing a DVD, the VLC log tells me all: only perfect DVDs play well on VLC.
There are two ways of viewing everything.
    Streaming MPEG-4
+H.264/MPEG-4 AVC+ is a fancy codec based upon MPEG-4: it requires a powerful processor to de-compress it. I watched an MPEG-4 movie from a G3 iBook in 2005. It played flawlessly.
    Your Problem
Quicktime 7.X applications can not play +H.264/MPEG-4 AVC+ streams. It was a bug Apple never fixed. Frames are dropped because H.264 is so slow that it requires special hardware. You, I'm sad to say, don't have it.
To quote the Wikipedia on Quicktime: 'QuickTime 7 lacks support for H.264's Sample Aspect Ratio .[67] QuickTime X does not have this limitation; many Apple products (such as iTunes and Apple TV) still use the older QuickTime 7 engine.'
My Quicktime Pro on a PPC PowerBook is 7.6.4. You can either use a Linux transplant or upgrade to Quicktime X. Those more familiar with Macs may have better ideas for you.
    My best,
    Bruce

  • Repost: brand new mac won't play/recognise/mount audio-cd's

No idea what's going on here. I posted a question which I will paste below. Someone posted some suggestions for me (Dave Sawyer if I remember the name correctly, thanks again!) which lead me to ask wheter I was or was not supposed to have a file named cd info.cidb in a certain folder.
Now all of a sudden my thread is gone and I find the following mail in my inbox:

You wouldn't have that file unless you used iTunes to get CD metadata from Gracenote. I hate Gracenote, therefore I have never had that file on my system

The origial question post was the following:
    Hi all!
I am totally new to the macbussines (got one for a month now) and not using cd's much I never tried importing one untill today... and it simply won't. I think it's supposed to show the audio-cd on the desktop and give me an 'import cd' button in itunes whenever I insert an audioCD right?
It won't do... it'll take it in, turn it a few times and slide it right out again.
    What I tried so far:
    * toying with itunes settings for importing (import cd & eject, show CD, ask to import cd etc)
    * toying with the cd&dvd preferences under system preferences
    * click the mount 'button' in disk utility as was suggested in all those threads regarding cd's not mounting first time (my cd's won't mount the second or 30th time either)
    * resetting the PRAM
    Nothing so far.
It does recognise DVD's but no audio cd's whatsoever, originals, burned ones. You name it. As I don't use CD's a lot the newest CD dates from 2003, but that can't be it, can it?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated...
    o/
Am I going para? Where did my post go? It's totally gone, not even under 'my posts' or anywhere...
Still no solution either... suggestions still welcome therefor

My guess is that someone didn't like that I said I didn't like Gracenote.
Anyway, I Googled for your thread and luckily found it intact in the iTunes for Windows forum and posted a condensed reply there for you.

  • Making a disc with iDVD on my Mac won't play on any other player why?

Making a disc with iDVD on my Mac won't play on any other player why?

How about some details on how you made the disc.  What sort of media did the project contain?  What brand and type of media did you use?  What burn speed did you use?
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • My mac won't play dvd's and the region won't reset. This has never happened before and I've never had to change the region

my mac won't play dvd's and the region won't allow me to set it. nVer had to touch this before. Has come out of the blue

Perhaps the lens is dirty.  Try cleaning it with a DVD lens cleaning disk, shoot some compressed air into the slot or use a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) wrapped around a business card and insert it gently into the slot.
    Ciao.

  • Mac won't play movies in QuickTime Player

Mac won't load movies on QuickTime Player or Flip Player. Help!

Try DVD player for store bought DVD movies. Try VLC for all other types.

  • Compressor creating movs that won't play in Windows

I am trying to make transcode video to play back on an installed HD television set. It is being fed by a Windows XP computer over HDMI using Windows Media Player. I have tried 25 different codecs including avi, wmv and mov. The avi and wmv will play on the pc, but the quality is bad and file size is too big. The movs that I create work fine on my mac but won't play on the pc. The movies load with an error message indicating an unknown file type. The audio track plays but no video.
Is there a "Make PC compatible" button that I am missing?

From what I've experienced, HD Quicktime Codecs are not cross-platform. You could try using AJA's or Blackmagic's free downloadable codecs, which are cross-platform, but I don't know how those codecs perform with Windows Media Player.
Your best bet would be to purchase the Flip4Mac HD WMV codecs:

  • My mac won't play videos or games.

Basically, everytime I want to watch a video or play a game, it says blocked plug in. Even video ads won't play, and I don't know how to stop it. It was working before and I don't know what I did wrong.

Mine were taking forever to load too and consuming 100% of cpu for minutes.
I uninstalled the perian codec I had previously installed (delete Perian from HD/Library/Quicktime) and downloaded and installed the latest version 1.0
This speeded things up. In the same folder I also had 3ivx so I deleted that as Perian should be able to take care of things.
Things are now much faster and the cpu doesn't sit at 100% for 1-2 minutes before playing the video.
If it slows down again, I might uncheck the "play avi files" option in Flip 4 Mac as Perian is pretty good at covering these whilst Flip4Mac does a good job with wmv.
Anyway, this has fixed things for me.
    Best of luck

  • Quicktime 7.1.3 won't play .mov or .swf inserted in powerpoint

I have been using Quicktime in ppt for sometime and it always played video loops fine. I upgraded to 7.1.3 and I have all kinds of problems. I have gone under the Quicktime preferences and MIME files and activated video and miscellanous types. Once I close the window though it reverts back to default and I can no longer open mov or swf. Is there a way to save these changes? Secondly when I insert a movie into ppt now it does not work. If I just open the file using Quicktime it works but not when embedded in ppt. I have reinstalled Quicktime 7.0.4 and the movies work fine. The other problem I have is that I upgraded to iTunes 7 and it requires 7.1.3 so when I remove 7.1.3 I can't use any of the video features of iTunes. Does anybody have any work arounds. Very, Very frustrated In South Dakota

    Quicktime Kirk,
I have downloaded another persons inquiry because it is exactly the problem I am having. Here is his post
"I make movies of cells and convert them to quick time and insert them into powerpoint for presentations for conferences. I never had a problem with this until I upgraded to office 2004 and now many (but not all) of my movies won't play. They seem to be there but when I click play they go white as though there is only the first image. I had saved them as cinepak and or jpeg A usually with image J or older ones from the original NIH image and I can't figure out what the problem is. I even upgraded to quicktime pro to resave them as self contained but still they don't work when I insert them. I can play them all with quicktime player and when I make new ones now in image j I save them as video and that seems to work but it would be very difficult to go back and do that with everything. Does anyone know why or how to fix this?"
My additional comments would be I used the Sample_iTunes.mov from QT and it plays like a champ in PPT. My movies are all from 2004. When I save them in the QT 7.1.3 it doesn't seem to make any difference. The older movies insert into PPT as a QT icon with 4 color quadriant. Everything including .swf are now working in QT. Thanks for your help. When I go back to 7.0.3 they work but then I can't play my videos in iTunes unless I do an erase and a reinstall to get rid of the updated iTunes. Thanks

  • Nano Mac won't Play on iTunes Windows

    A couple of quick questions...
The iPod Nano connects to my Mac with iTunes normally. However, when I tried to get it to play on iTunes XP... it wouldn't. It wouldn't even recognize it was connected. When it did, it said it needed to configure it for a PC... but configuring it for a PC would require everything, including all of the music, be erased.
    1) Why is that?
    2) I can't play my (Mac formatted) Nano on a PC through iTunes?
    3) If the answer is yes I can, then what do I need to do to accomplish this?
    Any help would be appreciated.
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Chris...
Followed your advice. Connects fine. But it won't play on my PC using iTunes. All of the music is grayed out. I can't even play it on the PC at work with iTunes. Is that how it's programmed now? A friend of mine had an older one and he used to bring his to work and hook it up and play the music from it using iTunes. I was even able to hook it up to my work PC and it played just fine. Won't do it with my Dell at home though... not sure what I'm doing wrong... Plays fine on my Mac though!!! LOL

  • ITunes on Mac won't play transferred songs purchased by same account on PC

I have recently transferred my iTunes library from a PC to a Mac (using my iPod as a hard drive). However, when I open up iTunes on my Mac, I am told that certain songs (all of the ones purchsed from the Music Store from the PC) are not authorized to be played on the Mac. I can only play songs I downloaded myself from cds. My purchased music still appears int he library, but I am not "authorized" to play it. Also, this is only the second computer I have used my iTunes on. How can I get this Mac authorized to play the songs I purchased?

Search the iTunes help files on the Apple support pages as I am sure there is lots of info about authorzing other computers.
But off the top of my head, one work around to this issue is to simply burn an audio CD on your PC with a playlist of your purchased songs or how ever many CDs you need to do it (CD-RW discs might be a good tool for this). You can then put those CDs into your Mac and import the tunes and now the "authorization" info/protection will have been stripped from them and you won't have that issue with them anymore.
