  • Media played with Quicktime doesn't play! Help please!!

I recently got a new iPod nano, and had to update my iTunes. Since I've done this, Quicktime hasn't been functioning properly. The sound (of a trailer, movie, etc) will play, but the media window doesn't play the picture; instead the window is just green. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times, each without results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I had the same problem 4x. They did a clean and install and an archive and install to no avail. Here is the solution. The genius bar went on to the discussion board and found the solution. Ready; go to hard drive then /Library/Internet Plug-ins/Quicktime Plugin.webplugin. Delete last Quicktime plugin.webplugin. Let me know . peace

  • Lately, Quicktime doesn't play anything.

I noticed Quicktime no longer plays anything. (I can use other applications for playback). I just checked and am still running QT 7.6.4, maybe that has something to do with it? I'm going to download, install and report back…

I downloaded the update and am good to go.

  • Latest Quicktime doesn't play films in browser

Looks like the latest Quicktime has a bug or something, because it is not playing any animation what soever on my browser (firefox). Keep seeing the quicktime logo with a question mark....
is it a bug or something I can fix?

    Further research
movies (flash) play in Safari correctly, but not in Firefox. To correct problem in Firefox browser see below instructions.
    Quicktime plugin takes over Flash
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Quicktimeplugin_takes_overFlash
If you see a Quicktime symbol with a question mark where the Flash content should be, it means that Quicktime has taken over handling of Flash files. Open the Quicktime Control Panel, select the Browser tab (or select "Browser Plug-in" from the drop-down menu in Quicktime 6 or earlier). Click the "Mime settings" button and uncheck "Flash media" or "Flash file" under "Miscellaneous" and restart your browser. If the problem persists, remove the file "pluginreg.dat" from the "Firefox" or "Mozilla" folder in the profile folder location. Additionally, remove any "npqt*.dll" files found in the Mozilla Suite or Firefox installation directory's plugins folder. [7]

  • Quicktime doesn't play video or audio

I'm working of a brand new Macbook with OSX 10.4.9 and I just upgraded to Quicktime Pro 7.1.3
I have a bunch of movie files that I've saved over the years that won't play. They're AVI files, and they open but all that's there is a white screen and no sound.
    Any suggestions?

There is no single codec for movies that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. An AVI movie may use one of the Indeo codecs (there are at least four that I'm aware of, none of which have been ported to Mac OS X) or one of the various flavors of DivX, among other possibilities. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the movies you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
If you want to try "hit and miss", you can try the codecs at http://www.divx.com/ and http://www.3ivx.com/ and see if one of them will work for you. Perian, which rolls several codecs into one package, might also work.
If you just want to play the movie any way you can, you can also give this player a try:

Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.
    Regards.

  • Quicktime doesn't play streaming

Using Lion, I have a website that has embedded quicktime content.  It won't play and I just get a black box.   So I did some searching and found nothing.  I suspected the browser, but I tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox and none would work.
I then went to Apple's website for movie trailers (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/)  and when I select any trailer to play I get a popup that says "Get Quicktime.  Download Quicktime to view this video".  If I click it a webpage loads that says "Quicktime is built into Mac OS X".
This works on my Snow Leopard machine and my Mac Pro running Lion, but not on my Macbook Pro.
I've exhausted ideas to resolve.    Anyone?  Very frustrated.

  • Quicktime doesn't play .mpg camera videos!

after upgrading to latest QTplayer i cannot hear any sound! anyone with the same problem? videos are from sony still camera and i think they are MPG1.

Try this freeware for exporting from mpeg muxed files, as QT has never exported the sound from such files and in the case of mpeg-2 files it does not play sound in some of the audio formats:Mpeg StreamClip

  • Quicktime doesn't open AVI file with Perian installed

I have installed Perian but Quicktime X doesn't open AVI files for a week. I have repaired permissions. But Quicktime only plays the AVI file if I reboot the Mac. VLC always plays the file. The AVI codec is XVID. Quicktime doesn't play other formats such as FLV. I have deleted .plist files, com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist. I have found other files(com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist.0GH3f31, com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist.0h9MBzV...) that I deleted also. Any idea? Thanks

And now ... surprisingly I view AVI files in Quicktime without Perian.
QT has very limited AVI support (file type and a few older codecs) built in. Most common codecs use by Windows users, however, require the additional support provided by Perian. If the AVI files are now playing in QT without Perian, then simply check the Inspector, Properties, or Info window to see which codecs are in your AVI file and you should be able to tell if they are among those supported "natively" by QT. Also note that this regaining of the ability to play your files may indicate a component conflict of some sort may have existed previously.

  • Quicktime doesn't read sequences on internet

    Hi,
As I open Safari or Firefox, Quicktime doesn'y play no sequences anymore. In every sequence-placeholder I just see the Quicktime-logo with a questionmark inside. This happened just after I tried to download 'flahpalyer'.
I already dumped 'flafhplayer' and tried to reinstall Quicktimeplayer (the newest version). It seems like the browser doesn't recognize the Quicktimeplayer anymore.
The preferences in Quicktime are unchanged.
Is there anybody who has got an idea what I did wrong?
    Thanks for helping,

The flash player plugin is just to see flash video application.
If you never see your video in web page and have reinstall QT and the flash plugin:
go to the quicktime prefpane and checks the box to make able QT to read falsh application and also click on MIME settings and then select "video" to obtain a full compatibility with all video formats.

  • QuickTime VR Panorama doesn't play correctly from a webpage

http://www.nps.gov/features/glac/gallery/082105b.htm is supposed to play a QuickTime VR Panorama (082105suelake.mov).  It contains the following <embed> tags:
    <embed src="../video/panoramas/082105suelake.mov" width="600" height="465" autoplay="true" controller="true"></embed>
To play it, all you do is drag your clicked mouse across the image and it's supposed to play as long as your mouse is clicked.
That worked through Snow Leopard (Safari 5.1.10, etc.).
But with Lion and Mountain Lion (Safari 6.1.1, Firefox 27.0, and Google Chrome 32.0.1700.107, and earlier verisions), instead of moving with the clicked mouse, it would jump to what should have been its final position when the mouse was released.
Safari 7.0.1 correctly plays it (one of the reasons I upgraded from Lion to Mavericks), but sadly, Firefox 27.0 and
Google Chrome 32.0.1700.107 both behave on Mavericks as they did on Lion.
All three use QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.3 to play it; so, I figure Safari 7.0.1 must be providing some <embed> parameter values that Firefox and Chrome don't know about.
The standalone QuickTime Player 7  plays the panorama fine.  It shows the following Properties:
everything else is either blank or the default values.  The Inspector display shows
with the Video Track unchecked, and
with it checked.  I can only imagine what happens on Windows (Internet Explorer, etc).
If you install the DivX Web Player (divx.com), DivX Web Player version 3.1.0.13 — from file “DivX Web Player.plugin” takes precedence over QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.3, when playing .mov files in Safari (doesn't get installed by default in Firefox or Chrome).
To get around that, I added type="video/quicktime" to the <embed> parameters, in http://home.comcast.net/~mybrandt/082105b.htm, hoping it would fix the problem Firefox and Chrome were having.  A similar fix made Safari choose QuickTime over DivX, when playing a QuickTime movie.
But instead of playing it, like it did without DivX installed, with type="video/quicktime" added, Safari 7.0.1 now shows
where the panorama image should be.  And, adding to my frustration, the extra parameter had no effect on Firefox or Chrome.
All are using QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.3, but don't behave the same — making this problem beyond my level of comprehension.
So, what are the necessary <embed>, or <object>, or QT_WriteOBJECT_HTML, or QT_WriteOBJECT_XHTML parameters for a QuickTime VR Panorama?
I can find all sorts of documents about QuickTime movies, but not that.  Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong spot.  But I've sort of run out of time.  If someone could provide a template to use, it would be most appreciated.

I have to correct something.  With type="video/quicktime", Safari 7.0.1 does play the QuickTime VR Panorama, so it's effective for both QuickTime videos and panoramas.  But, what I wrote about Firefox and Chrome hasn't changed.
I did get the QuickTIme with a "?" symbol when I tried to play it with Safari 7.0.1, before submitting the question; but maybe that was a side effect of an earlier attempt.

  • QuickTime Problem. Doesn't play video.avi.

I have updated the system up to the latest - Maverick. After that QuickTime Player doesn't play video.avi. I have tried restarting the app - worthless. Yet, it has been showing 'Converting' for 30 mins. Please, help!

Hello, thank you for your reply. I have several more questions if you don't mind.
    1. Does it always take that long to convert a file (more than 30 mins)? It seems that it doesn't work. It stops at the beginning and than nothing changes.
    2. Since when QuickTime needs convertation for avi? I thought this is a standart format.
    3. How can I use QuickTime 7?
Here is what I see during 30 mins.
    Thank you beforehand!

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • Safari doesn't play some quicktime movie/animation

    Hi there ..
I have a problem with Safari:
It doesn't play some on screen little quicktime windows used for advertising or .. showing little animation.
Like www.luxology.com (they have a little quicktime playing)
But if I put the mouse over such little windows and rotate the mouse wheel they play.
But they don't play automatically, only by rotating the mouse.
I don't know if it happened after I used Webkit or after Quicktime 7.1
    Any Help?

That site uses Flash (.swf) and not all Flash files can be viewed using QuickTime.
I don't know if there is a Universal version of the Flash Player available but it is what you should be using for features like Flash in a browser.

  • Quicktime 10.3 doesn't play

I just bought a Mc Book Air. But when I try to play any video mov or avi it doesn't play. I need any additional program or update?
File information: codecs MP42, MPEG Layer 3.

File information: codecs MP42, MPEG Layer 3.
MP42 and MP43 are Microsoft video codecs. Not sure if the free VLC player supports these formats or not. If not, you can always try the Flip Player from Telestream.

  • Audio file doesn't play on the server

    hi,
i have embedded an audio file on a page. it plays perfectly fine in whatever browser i use to preview it, but when i put the page on my server the play controls do not appear, only the quicktime logo appears. url:http://www.doctorastronomy.net/amateurastro/SunTube3.html
    thanks,
    dave

Solution: Embed a Flash MP3 Media Player on your page.  You'll reach the widest audience with Flash because Flash media plug-in comes factory installed on almost all new computers.  QuickTime doesn't.
Get a Wimpy Button or Wimpy MP3 Player
