Quicktime doesn't start!

I've tried installing it and reinstalling it several times. I even changed my pc hoping to fix this problem, but with no luck.
Whenever I try to start quicktime I get the windows "critical stop" sound. iTunes closes when I click on music.
I have tried everything, like installing older versions of quicktime. I don't know what else to do. Can anyone help?

Quicktime doesn't start up / iTunes freezes or closes down

Having been a satisfied iTunes user for quite a time, it suddenly froze a few days ago when I tried to play already listed songs.
I have installed the latest version but the problem remains. Furthermore, whem importing a file by the menu, an error message appears (error code -50).
Furthermore, when I try to start the QuickTime Player separately, I hear the Windows error sound but now message shows up. QuickTime does not open up.
As recommended in similar threads, I've already tried the following:
- disabling firewall and/or AntiVir
- check for spyware
- soundcard/driver settings checked
- CHKDSK
- removing QuickTime/iTunes, cleaning registry, installing QT standalone (same problem...)
Other players or sound related programms work as usual.
Having ordered an iPod and having spend loads of time on this problem, I would be happy if you can provide further ideas. Thank you very much!

Itunes 7.0.1 doesn't start due to Quicktime

I just upgraded to version 7.0.1 but itunes doesn't start stating this error:
"Quicktime version 7.0d0 ins installed, Itunes requires Quicktime version 7.1.3 or later."
I tried opening quicktime but it created a runtime error.
Please help

Oh it works now - All I had to do was open quicktime separately for it to configure itself. iTunes opens fine now.

IMovie doesn't starts!!

I have a big problem.. iMovie '08 doesn't start!
1. First I tried to delete the home/library/preferences/:
com.apple.garageband.cs
com.apple.garageband.plist
com.apple.iApps.plist
com.apple.iMovie.plist
but nothing ...
2. Second I tried ti delete Macintosh HD/libray/caches .... but nothing!
3. I changed the monitor profile to "Adobe RGB"... but nothing..
4. The only solution is move the iPhoto library to another folder... so iMovie starts!! But if I start iPhoto and I select the library folder, iMovie doesn't starts!!!
Any suggestion please?

When iMovie 08 hangs at launch, i always delete the perian component and it works !
this file is located in : home/library/quicktime/perian.component.
This very often works.

(Windows XP) iTunes doesn't start

Hi,
My iTunes under Windows XP doesn't start since one week: I can see it started in the taskbar like other applications, as if it were minimized, but nothing else. No error message. If I click on it, nothing happens, if only it doesn't freeze the complete PC. I can only right click > Close.
I uninstalled all iTunes, then installed it again, and it still didn't work.
I downloaded iTunes latest version again to be sure. Still the same.
I looked for solutions over the web, but with no error message it looks difficult to find a case like mine.
Any idea someone?

ITunes and Quicktime won't start up.

I've tried installing and re-installing iTunes about three times now, and each time it'll seem to have installed successfully, but whenever I try to tell the program to start up, it just literally does nothing. I tried to uninstall Quicktime it starts the uninstall, then comes up with an error saying "Fatal error during" with no other text. I click Ok, the window closes and the uninstall is cancelled, with nothing being changed. please help

Okay, we're not just dealing with a broken QuickTime here. Some other application (of the same general type that I asked about earlier, or possibly a game) has installed older versions of QuickTime program files in your \system32\ folder. That's what is causing the QuickTime (and iTunes) launch problems, and it's also interfering with your QuickTime uninstalls (producing that fatal error message). So we're going to have to clean that stuff out as well (or else your QuickTime and iTunes are still not going to launch, even after we've fixed your QuickTime).
Preliminaries
Download and save a fresh copy of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe (QuickTime installer file) to your hard drive. (Don't try to run the install on line, and don't start the install just yet.) Get the QuickTime installer that doesn't mention iTunes:

*Uninstall and clearing program files and folders phase*
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:

Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install CleanUp"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries, and click "Remove". Quit out of CleanUp.
Now we'll clear away the leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Open My Computer. Go "Tools > Folder Options" and click the "View" tab. Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected and that "Hide extensions for known filetypes" is unchecked. Okay out of the Tab.
Now open "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your Program files are installed on.
Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click on the QuickTime folder and select "Delete".
Go back into My Computer and open your C drive.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "system32" folder.
Look for any files or folders with Quicktime in the file name. Delete any such files/folders that you find. (Can't tell you precisely what to look for, because what QuickTime componentry gets dumped in there depends on which program did the dumping.)
Now empty your recycle bin and restart the PC.
*Reinstall phase*
Don't open any other applications after the restart. Now start the reinstall by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Does that install go through okay? If so, do QuickTime and iTunes start launching again?

IDVD doesn't start any more

iDVD doesn't start any more.
On the 20th of March my iDVD 4.0.1 worked as well as allways but on the 21/3 it any longer did not start. I tryed starting it from iMovie such as I used it on the 20/3 and it does not start either.
I ask if it can to be an acceptable attempt of solution, to drag the aplicacion iDVD into the wastebasket, to install it again from the cd's that come with the computer and finally to update it with the revision 4.0.1
Can be any relation with the version of QuickTime?

If it were me, I would downgrade QT from v7 back to v6.x.x as that is the stable version to use with OS 10.3.9.
In addition, I would run the list of maintenance applications found in this post (or ones like them)...

Integrated wls doesn't start

Hi,
I'm using JDev 11.1.1.3.
I was working normally but suddenly the integrated wls doesn't start anymore.
When I start the server, the log stops here

Although the log says "RUNNING", the server is not running. If I test, through the server properties, all tests fail, except the HTTP.
I tried to delete the cache folder and re-install the middleware... the problem remains.

If there is no loading bar, it's usually a problem with a third party kext file in OS X itself.
You can press the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, then reboot holding the shift key down on a wired or built in keyboard, this will disable them and you go around and update your third party software.
Gray, Blue or White screen at boot, w/spinner/progress bar
Also take this time to backup your users files off the machine if possible.

Chromium doesn't start and suspend, shutdown don't work occassionally

I have this problem on my laptop but since chromium doesn't start on my desktop either, I don't think it's specific to laptops.
When I try to start chromium in a terminal, I get a blank window (I can tell because I use spectrwm):

I temporarily resorted to using Firefox instead, but at times it just freezes up while opening some pages. After that point, even killing firefox doesn't help: the system load level keeps on rising. I used pidof to check if firefox is still running, but I had no output from pidof. After having firefox to freeze, shutdown, suspend, etc don't work. The laptop goes to a black screen state, but the power LED remains on indefinitely.
These might be two separate issues, but they started together on my laptop.

It started happening after upgrade:

I tried to downgrade chromimu to 40.0.2214.94-1 and it didn't help. I tried to downgrade nvidia, xorg-server and xorg-server-devel to previous versions, when everything worked and X chouldn't start.
Other observations are that if I start chromium, the ps command hangs and I have to reboot the system to be able to use ps command again.

Remote Update Manager on Yosemite doesn't start

Apple logo comes up but ipod doesn't start

When I turn on the device the Apple logo comes up but the ipod doesn't start and go to the menus it just stays with the logo. When I hold down the play/pause on the click wheel to put it to sleep a symbol of a triangle with an exclamation point in the center comes up along with "www.apple.com/support/ipod." I tried rebooting it with Menu/select but nothing happens.

Unfortunately, on a "classic" iPod that uses a hard drive for storage, the most likely cause is a faulty hard drive.
You can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode

If that works, connect it to the computer and run iTunes. iTunes may prompt you to do a Restore. This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings. If the cause is data corruption or a software issue (and the hard drive has no physical problem), the Restore should fix it.

Quicktime doesn't open AVI file with Perian installed

I have installed Perian but Quicktime X doesn't open AVI files for a week. I have repaired permissions. But Quicktime only plays the AVI file if I reboot the Mac. VLC always plays the file. The AVI codec is XVID. Quicktime doesn't play other formats such as FLV. I have deleted .plist files, com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist. I have found other files(com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist.0GH3f31, com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist.0h9MBzV...) that I deleted also. Any idea? Thanks

And now ... surprisingly I view AVI files in Quicktime without Perian.
QT has very limited AVI support (file type and a few older codecs) built in. Most common codecs use by Windows users, however, require the additional support provided by Perian. If the AVI files are now playing in QT without Perian, then simply check the Inspector, Properties, or Info window to see which codecs are in your AVI file and you should be able to tell if they are among those supported "natively" by QT. Also note that this regaining of the ability to play your files may indicate a component conflict of some sort may have existed previously.
