Quicktime doesn't uninstall

I accidentally uninstalled quicktime and I was trying to re-download it but i get errors and when i try to delete the older version it just doesn't delete. If there is any way to recover it to get my i tunes back as well, please let me know, Thank You

thank you for reporting all three. there end up being some differences between troubleshooting the .ms1/1714/1603 combo, and the 1714/1603 (no initial .msi message) combo that folks can also get.
here's what we'll try first with your one.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
does it go through properly this time? if so, does your itunes launch properly again?

What's going on here? I'm thinking it's an install shield conflict with the quicktime that im installing... what should i do?

I have gotten this error a few times myself. What I did to fix it was first uninstall Quicktime and iTunes. If it doesn't uninstall nicely then you will have lots of fun trying to reinstall it and it will require you to grab the hachet and start hacking a way at windows.... Ususally it will uninstall. If it does then you may want to disable any firewalls and antiviruses/ reinstall them. Yes my firewall and antivirus once prevented me from installing it. Norton Firewall 2004 and Symantec Antivirus Courporate Edition 8. Unforenately this will not allways fix it as I menchoned above. If thouse steps do not work then it is a real pain to fix the problem.

  • Quicktime doesn't run - Illegal Plugin Error

I recently purchased this computer, and used "PC Mover" to move my settings from an older PC to this one. I think I have conflicting versions of QuickTime, because I can't uninstall it - I'm getting a "Fatal Error during Installation" error when I try to uninstall. When I try to re-install, Quicktime doesn't work at all.
I'm just trying to get to a point where I can view mpg's from a website. Whenever I try to do this, I get a "Quicktime plugin error 7.1.3" - Plugin performed an illegal operation. You are strongly advised to restart Navigator" (Even though I use Mozilla Firefox, I get similar errors in IE, so I don't think it's a browser issue).
Any help I could get on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanx,

  • Quicktime doesn't open AVI file with Perian installed

I have installed Perian but Quicktime X doesn't open AVI files for a week. I have repaired permissions. But Quicktime only plays the AVI file if I reboot the Mac. VLC always plays the file. The AVI codec is XVID. Quicktime doesn't play other formats such as FLV. I have deleted .plist files, com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist. I have found other files(com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist.0GH3f31, com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist.0h9MBzV...) that I deleted also. Any idea? Thanks

And now ... surprisingly I view AVI files in Quicktime without Perian.
QT has very limited AVI support (file type and a few older codecs) built in. Most common codecs use by Windows users, however, require the additional support provided by Perian. If the AVI files are now playing in QT without Perian, then simply check the Inspector, Properties, or Info window to see which codecs are in your AVI file and you should be able to tell if they are among those supported "natively" by QT. Also note that this regaining of the ability to play your files may indicate a component conflict of some sort may have existed previously.

  • Quicktime doesn't read sequences on internet

    Hi,
As I open Safari or Firefox, Quicktime doesn'y play no sequences anymore. In every sequence-placeholder I just see the Quicktime-logo with a questionmark inside. This happened just after I tried to download 'flahpalyer'.
I already dumped 'flafhplayer' and tried to reinstall Quicktimeplayer (the newest version). It seems like the browser doesn't recognize the Quicktimeplayer anymore.
The preferences in Quicktime are unchanged.
Is there anybody who has got an idea what I did wrong?
    Thanks for helping,

The flash player plugin is just to see flash video application.
If you never see your video in web page and have reinstall QT and the flash plugin:
go to the quicktime prefpane and checks the box to make able QT to read falsh application and also click on MIME settings and then select "video" to obtain a full compatibility with all video formats.

  • Older version of Quicktime won't uninstall - can't install newer version

I am trying to install iTunes 7.5 and Quicktime 7.1 on computer. Keep getting error that older version of Quicktime cannot be uninstalled. Have tried "add/remove" software function on Windows XP; have also tried to manually delete the files. Still get the same answer! Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

+The message I am getting says enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Quicktime.msi'. I have searched for this file and I do not have it on my computer.+
Typically, when you get those sorts of messages (in conjunction with the "cannot uninstall program" message), there's a problem with the installation configuration information for the existing version of QuickTime on the PC.
So let's try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those QuickTime entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (5) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (6) Restart your computer.
Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Quicktime won't uninstall?  -3 error SOLUTION

So i encountered this really annoying all throughout yesterday, and figure people might be going throught the same thing. While trying to update itunes, the quicktime bundle wouldnt install, and in the end led to a -3 error. So i tried to delete quicktime, but the uninstall didnt work. Its not that i cared, but i only wanted my music, which wouldnt open. I did what alot of people did, trying to go into regedit.exe, but im no computer wiz, and non of that worked. so finally, i did this, and this deffinetly solved my problem.
download the windows install cleaner, then find quicktime to remove, and then redownload the standalone version of quicktime.
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1b d/msicuu2.exe
(this is the file link from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301 , if it doesnt work, go directly there)
    then
    www.quicktime.com (i searched standalone)
    hope this helps people.

It's telling me I have an old version of Quicktime, and won't uninstall it; saying it can't find wherever it's saved.
Is it saying it can't find the QuickTime.msi file, kylvel?
If so, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install CleanUp"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another itunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • Why Quicktime doesn't recognize my camcorder HVR-A1 on a smaller Macbook but does on the 17" one?

Why Quicktime doesn't recognize my camcorder HVR-A1 on a smaller Macbook but does on the 17" one using 400 Firewire adapted to 800?

I'm baffled why the mic works fine with Dictation but not with QuickTime.
QT likely uses core routines which are compatible with your Lion OS and what can be seen in the "System Preferences" window. On the other hand, Dictation may be using an alternative workflow which can still see/use your mic. To add to the confusion, it appears Lion included changed audio handling routines which, according to some, were released before proper test had been completed and finalized with the release of Mountain Lion. (I.e., Snapz Pro X and WireTap from Ambrosia are still scrambling to update their system audio capture software for these changes but ScreenFlow's routines seem to work already.) In any case, I suspect your problem may be related to the Lion/Mountain Lion audio handling modifications but have no way to confirm such at this time.

  • ITunes shows error message, QuickTime doesn't respond! PLEASE HELP!

My iTunes doesn't open anymore, it shows that error message (iTunes needs to close. Send error report... etc). I tried uninstalling it, installing gain from the iPod CD, from the website, and nothing works. On Apple's support site it said I needed to uninstall QuickTime and repair iTunes, but my computer won't let me uninstall Quick Time, it doesn't work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 100 times, I have restarted my computer too and nothing seems to work.
I don't use Norton, I use McAfee. I don't know what else to do, somebody please help me solve this problem, I have been trying to fix it for WEEKS!
    Dell Inspiron   Windows XP

    IT WORKS!!!!!!
This is unblievable, but iTunes is working, and all I had to do was install it in a different folder! Now both QT and iTunes work fine, my library is intact and I can update my iPod!
The only weird thing is that all the files on the library that are on my iPod now have that exclamation point, meaning I have to look for them, but that's ok, cause they are still on my iPod even after updating!
Thank a lot Katrina! I won't annoy you anymore!

  • Media played with Quicktime doesn't play! Help please!!

I recently got a new iPod nano, and had to update my iTunes. Since I've done this, Quicktime hasn't been functioning properly. The sound (of a trailer, movie, etc) will play, but the media window doesn't play the picture; instead the window is just green. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times, each without results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I had the same problem 4x. They did a clean and install and an archive and install to no avail. Here is the solution. The genius bar went on to the discussion board and found the solution. Ready; go to hard drive then /Library/Internet Plug-ins/Quicktime Plugin.webplugin. Delete last Quicktime plugin.webplugin. Let me know . peace

  • QuickTime doesn't open up! Please Help!

i recently upgraded to lion, and accidently deleted quick time. I used the snow leopard disk to restore it, but now it doesn't work. Evey time I open it up i get this massage:
QuickTime Player cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure QuickTime Player works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
I tried using the software update but it says that all the software is up to date.
    What should I do????

    excellent information, sparkly.
    Fault Module Name: StackHash_fd00
    Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
    ... and:
To help protect your computer, Data Execution Prevention has closed iTunes
... and the QuickTime Player not launching either (it's a "QuickTime has stopped working" error?).
With that combination, we need to check on some other application (apart from QuickTime itself) stashing old QuickTime componentry on the PC in an unorthodox location. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects with that, although some games might do the same.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
*If you have a 32-bit version of Windows,* open the "System32" folder.
*If you have a 64-bit version of Windows,* open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Quicktime doesn't open any video files (app loads, no video)

I've done my best to search for a solution, but I have come up with nothing.
Whenever I try to load any video files (.mov, .mp4, .avi, etc) Quicktime Player 10.1 opens, but no video file is displayed. Same results if I use the "open" command from within Quicktime. All of the videos play fine in VLC.
The only exception to this rule is when viewing a trailer on trailers.apple.com. If I "download" an HD trailer, Quicktime opens and begins to stream the trailer, however the ram runs away (8+gb instantly) and the computer starts chugging very badly.
In the old days I would have just reinstalled quicktime, however with how deeply it is integrated into Lion I am unsure of how to proceed (short of a clean install). Thanks in advance!

A previous poster with a Toshiba posted how he installed a generic driver. If I recall it was
    Uninstall the graphics driver.
Remove the display driver from Device Manager.
Reboot declining prompts to install a driver.
    Run the generic installer program.
