QuickTime...Error #2093

I've been unable to access my iTunes on my main computer and I keep getting the message "QuickTime failed to initialize. Error #2093.  Please make sure QuickTime is properly installed on this computer".  I have always been able to log-on to my iTunes until recently but don't know what is happening now.  Can anyone tell me what's going on?  And what can I do to fix this?  (It's telling me to "Uninstall iTunes, then re-install iTunes again...if I do this will I lose all my music )

I've been unable to access my iTunes on my main computer and I keep getting the message "QuickTime failed to initialize. Error #2093.
Quickly doublechecking something, gus ... is that a #2093 or a #2096? (The #2096 when launching iTunes has been much more common in recent times, and usually indicates something different from the #2093.)
If it's a #2093 when launching iTunes, could you let us know if your QuickTime Player is currently launching, please? If not, what error message do you get from your QuickTime Player?

Can you check something for me please? (This isn't a cure in itself but may give us a heads-up as to the source of the problem.)
Create a new Windows User account with full administrative rights. Log out of your normal account and log into the new account. (Don't use Fast User switching to move between accounts.)
In the new user account, try opening the QuickTime Player. Do you still get a 2093 in there? Or does it launch properly for you?

  • QuickTime does not start on Windows 7. Error 2093.

I am unable to launch QuickTime on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, I get a "QuickTime failed to initialize. Error # -2093" error message. This is particularly disturbing since for some odd reason iTunes seems to require QuickTime and I need iTunes to sync my iPod (nice set of dependencies).
Anyhow, I've been getting this error since upgrading from Vista to 7; I've uninstalled both apps completely (though the problem seems to be exclusive to QuickTime) and reinstalled a lot of times. Oddly enough, from time to time a reinstall works, iTunes launches and I get to change my music, but that lasts until a reboot where it stops working again, and now I'm there; further reinstalls haven't been able to make it work again and I'm growing more and more frustrated.
I've read that the problem could be a missing quicktime.qts (or something like that) in the system32 folder of Windows, but I checked and it's there.
Between reinstalls I've also cleaned my registry for stray QuickTime info on it, but to no effect.
I am desperately in need of help; my iPod is pretty useless without iTunes.
    Thanks in advance.

I am getting the error message you show. Ie. Entry point etc. in Windows Vista.
Okay. Go "Start > Computer". In Computer, go "Tools > Folder Options". Click the "View tab". Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected and that "Hide extensions for known filetypes" is unchecked. Okay out of the tab.
You next step depends on whether or not you've got a 32-bit or a 64-bit Vista.
*If you're 32-bit:* Open the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Look for a QTCF.dll file. When you find the QTCF.dll, drag it out onto the desktop. Does QuickTime launch properly now?
    *If you're 64-bit:*
First, open the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Look for a QTCF.dll file. If you find a QTCF.dll, drag it out onto the desktop.
Second, open the C:\Windows\sysWOW64\ folder. Look for a QTCF.dll file. If you find a QTCF.dll, drag it out onto the desktop.
Once you've cleared System32 and SysWOW84 of any copies of QTCF.dll, does QuickTime launch properly now?

  • "error code: -3" and "error -2093" during installation

I just got my fifth generation iPod a few days ago. When I try to install the software from the CD that came in the box, the installation program can never quite finish. It gets through iTunes but then hangs up right as it is about to finish installing QuickTime. Then a window pops up telling me "QuickTime Installation Failed Error Code: -3." When I click on the iTunes icon on my desktop, another window pops up. It says "QuickTime failed to initialize (Error -2093)." iTunes never opens, and I can't put anything on iPod until this gets fixed. I have no idea what to do.

    hey b,
thanks so much for posting so many replies regarding error codes: 3, 2093, and 1406. at first i was having a hard time figuring out what to do first and then i sat down to read through your postings. you are the best! i followed the info you explained in this thread and others you referenced to.
i was worried that i wounldn't be able to use my itunes anymore but thanks to you i works now.
i was having trouble updating itunes 6 with Quicktime 7.0.3 and i was installing it and uninstalling it about 20 times. i even tried installing the stand alone QT 7.0.3 but wasn't successful because i didn't clean up the previous installation.
i basically followed the steps b lays out here and crossreferenced the other threads b wrote regarding the specific error messages that would pop up.
anyway i downloaded the installation.exe for QT standalone on my desktop. then i downloaded the itunes.exe on my desktop too but didn't run them. i deleted all previous installations and rebooted my computer. after the reboot i then shut down all applications running in the background (including McAfee firewall and viruscan) and did the stand alone QT installation. when i got an error message 1406 i clicked the ignore button and it installed QT anyway. then ran the itunes install.exe and it worked out great.
    thanks b, great job!

  • QuickTime Error Code

When I deleted QuickTime the first time off my computer I had to install QuickTime 7.0 for my New IPod Nano. Well long story short When I run QuickTime it is saying that ( I have an error:-2093.) Does anybody have a clue what that is?
As well as when I tried to download QuickTimeInstaller.exe I got this error.
Windows Installer Help (msi.chm) or MSDN Error:-2093\
I need serious help. If anybody can help me out, that would be greatly appreciated.

Ok Im going to explain these errors to you guys. And tell you how to fix the error's of
    Error:-2093
    Error:-1409
Also Error know as can not open key:HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Unistall\QuickTime because you do not have permission to access this program.
First of all the problem is with QuickTime not your computer. QuickTime has this problem with not registering the program with your computer. So you have to go to your registry keys and do it yourself. Here is how you do that.
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Run
    3. Type in "regedit" without the quotes.
    4. Double Click on HKEYLOCALMACHINE.
    5. Double Click on Software
    6. Double Click on Microsoft
    7. Double Click on Windows
    8. Double Click on CurrentVersion
    9. Double Click on Unistall
    10. Double Click on QuickTime.
Ok now you found where your QuickTime is located in your registry keys. Now what you have to do is right click on QuickTime and select permissions. Set your persmissions to your account and the administrators account. After you have set your permissions to your accounts. Reinstall the stand alone version of QuickTime 7.0.2. It should work. If you are having more problems with this situation let me know with an email and I will walk you threw this one on one. Hope this helps you out. Good Luck!

  • "Error Code: -3" and "error -2093"

I just got my fifth generation iPod a few days ago. I decided to update my iTunes to version 6. I did this with the software cd that came with the iPod. Everything went smoothly until the wizard was just about to finish installing QuickTime. Then this window popped up saying:
    Quick Time Installation Failed
    Error Code: -3
So I pressed "OK". I was allowed to finish the the installation process. Then I go to click on the iTunes icon and a pop window saying this appeared:
    QuickTime failed to initialize
    (error -2093)
So I have been running around the apple support site for the past couple of days trying to fix this. My latest endeavor involved uninstalling everything and then trying to install a standalong version of QuicTime. That only yielded this pop up window:
    Internal Error 2318
    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\Plugins\nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
whatever that means, as well as this:
    Error: -1603
    Fatal Error during Installation
I would greatly appreciate any advice.

  • Please help.  ITUNES has error 2093.  re-install ITUNES has error code 3.

    Hi,
My daughter and son have TUNES libraries. Clicking on ANY of the 2 libraries gets an error -2093 and the comment to reinstall. I reinstall and this gets an error code of -3. I saw a thread where someone had NORTON ( I don't). I use Microsoft, CA, and Spyware Doctor. Never had a problem before, but you've heard that one. Please help Does anyone know how this can be fixed? Short of a hammer to the computer, I can/will do anything it needs, but I don't have a clue what to do. THANKS !!!!

Do a QuickTime standalone install. That usually fixes the 2093 error.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
Save it to your your hard drive - don't install over the internet.

  • Hi.  Ever since I downloaded the last itunes and quicktime update (a week or so ago), I can't access any video podcasts or movies I have stored in itunes.  iTunes keeps crashing and telling me I have a quicktime error.  Do I uninstall quicktime? or?

Hi .  Ever since I downloaded the last itunes and quicktime update ( a week or so ago), I can't access any movies or video podcasts i have store in itunes on my pc (vista).  iTunes crashes and my error reports tell me it is a quicktime error.  Do i uninstall and reinstall quicktime, or completely uninstall itunes and reinstall it -- if so, what will i lose?  Help, please!

  • Quicktime error -2048 when trying to play.mov files.

I have been frustrated this weekend trying to find a solution to a problem that has only recently occurred accessing some digitised VCR tapes that had been archived on an external HDD. These are files that played back fine on my Quicksilver after I had recorded them, but now give a "Movie Not Available" message in Quicktime. However when opened in VLC I get a debug message box with the following information posted below. Any clues as to what might be the problem?
I recorded the files from my VCR using an ADVC-100 DA converter over firewire into BTV Pro which created .mov files (DV-PAL). When I try to open the files in BTV Pro, I get a message box "There was an error opening the movie. No Movie found. Error code 20,-2048" Did a search for this error and -2048 appears to be a Quicktime error, so am wondering if there is a problem with my installation of Quicktime. I have got all the usual suspects in stalled, Flip4Mac, Perian, VLC. Mpeg Streamclip but can't get the file to open. The external HDD is Mac formatted but I found some info about problems with missing resource forks in older .mov files causing problems if copied to NTFS HDD's.
Any ideas as to where to look next will be appreciated.

Well it used to work fine so I think so. When I try and run the installer you linked to I get a message saying that a later version is already installed- isn't it built into the latest QT releases? One thing I thought of- the original files I think were made on a mac so there were some resource fork files of 4K size. I deleted these as I kept trying to open them by mistake, but then after this trouble I dragged them back out the trash to the original location but it didn't fix the problem- could that have caused some sort of association problem?

  • In attempt to burn blu-ray, I get QuickTime error 0.  Takes hours to export a 7 minute movie from timeline, then get notice it fails.  What's going on here?

New problem just started 24 hours ago.  When I try to export from the time line to create a QuickTime file, a 7 minute movie on time line takes 3 hours to export and then the export fails, where as a few days ago, that export would take about 10 minutes at most.  I get the same failure notice when I try to share to blu-ray, DVD, or Vimeo.  Tried to use compressor, no such luck as compressor failed to make a .mov file.  I get QuickTime error 0 message about 5 minutes into trying to share to Blu-Ray now.   Does anyone know what is going on here?  I'm running latest update of Snow Leopard on an intel Mac Pro and the latest update to Final Cut Pro X.  I've also installed QT 7.6.6 to use in creating time lapse movie files.

Same problem here, too. Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 on OS 10.6.8. However, it is only doing it on ONE of my projects. A 4-second test project burned successfully.
I'm  actually going to use iDVD to burn copies for a few people, so I only need the movie file from FCPX.
Would someone please post best export settings for use on a DVD? In FCPX, the project is  in HD (1080p) with all media optimized to ProRes 442. I know it will have to be down-sampled to DVD resolution, but I've always been curious to know what settings will result produce the best possible quality in DVD resolution.
    Thank you!
    Bart

  • Quicktime error code : -3

My Toshiba Tecra S2 laptop running XP Pro SP2 went in to standby and froze there (common problem). Upon rebooting iTunes "has encountered an error and needs to close" every time I try to run it.
I have uninstalled, re-downloaded and upon attempting re-install I get "Quicktime error code : -3" and the install fails.
This is driving me crazy. Any ideas

I deleted the iTunes folder in MyDocuments/MyMusic (renaming iTunes.old instead of deleting will preserve files)and re-installed and everything appears to work.

  • Quicktime errors during install, uninstall, or run

Quicktime errors during install, uninstall, or run. No error code. It just says it encountered an error and must exit.

I located a previous response that satisfied my issue. Below is the process that allowed me to use quicktime.
The "fatal error" in this context has (recently) been indicating trouble with old, misplaced QuickTime componentry lurking about in your system.
(Whether or not the message is a symptom of that problem seems to depend on what version of old misplaced stuff is lurking and what version of QuickTime proper we're trying to install or uninstall ... but in recent times, there's been an uptick in fatal errors being caused by that.)
So let's try investigating that possibility first.
First we'll adjust some view settings on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in "My Computer" open Local Disk C: (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
What files or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file or folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
