Quicktime Error -50 on output to compressor

For the life of me I cannot output my edit!  I have tried a variety of ways, Share, Export via QT Conversion and Compressor.  Each of which fails with the quicktime error code -50.  Despite a general google search i cannot seem to find any reference to thois error code at all.  The problem is particularly frustrating since each output iteration takes several hours before it reports a fail.  I have been at this for a week now and have missed the films output deadline.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi David, thanks for the prompt reply.
Currently locked out as I am attempting another output.  I have succeeded outputting as a self-contained fcp mov with very large output size ~24Gb.  Took a few minutes to process
Dimensions 1280X720
Codec:  Apple prores 422HQ, Linear PCM, timecode
Colour Profile:  HD(1-1-1)
Duration 20mins
Audio channels 2
total bit rate:  145, 064
Ok as i'm typing that processing completed kicking out a 1.29Gb Youtube version as follows:
Dimensions 1280X720
Codec:  H.264, AAC, Timecode
Colour Profile:  HD(1-1-1)
Duration 20mins
Audio channels 2
total bit rate:  8,289
I achieved this by re-ingesting the above outputted selfcontained FCP mov back into a new project, dragged to sequence and re-output via share option took around an hour to process.  So I'm geting somewhere, but still not convinced of quality

  • Compressor 2 - Quicktime error 0 revealed

After upgrading to the latest version of QT, FCP5, DVDSP4, and Compressor 2 with all the latest fixes I could not compress a 1 hr 46 min video on my quad G5 without getting the dreaded quicktime 0 error message. I spent days trying to get around this and finally settled on getting the job done through DVDSP, (see my post "compressor 2 what works for me").
I finally decided to track down the problem by spliting my project in half to see which half was failing. Then I spilt that half in two and so on for hours until I found the problem video. Turns out I had a "spin 3D" transition between a slow motion clip at 50% and a clip at regular speed. I added 1 sec of regular speed to the slo mo clip so the transition would fall between to clips at regular speed and the problem was solved. My 1hr 46 min video compressed in 3hrs 30 min. (still not as quick as the 1 hr 10 min from DVDSP4 but thats another story).
Conclusion - "Quicktime error 0" seems to be Compressors way of saying "sorry this is too complex for me." I am sure there are other combinations of transitions, filters, etc. that will cause this problem as well so APPLE, IF YOU ARE READING THIS we need a fix.
I will try more expirements but complexity in the time line seems to be the cause of compressors failure due to quicktime error 0.

I am having the same issue. I have recently purchased quicktime pro and updated to lion, I dont know if that is that causes the failure but this *****! it's the 4rth time i try to compress a 15 minute file, it takes about 3 hours and when there is 10 minutes to go.... pooooof!!! game over!

  • Quicktime error -50 with "H.264 for DSP"

    Hello.
When compressing for HD DVD with the profile "H.264 for DVD Studio Pro" (on macosx 10.5.5, QuickTime 7.5.5) I systematically get a QuickTime error -50, about which I am finding no information at all. More, precisely this is what the logs report
    (in com.apple.stomp.transcoder.stomp.log)
... msg="Processing service request error: QuickTime Error: -50"
    (in com.apple.compressor.cluster.admin.log)
    <log ... msg="Handling exception: ... fatal exception = QuickTime error: -50, fail count = 1." />
    <log ... msg="Stopping the failed request." />
This happens with all kind of sources, but only when the setting is "H.264 for DVD Studio Pro". All other settings work as expected. I don't know what to think, possibly an upgrade problem, possibly one of the QuickTime plugins installed on my system might be interfering (but then perhaps the error should occur given a source for all output settings, rather than vice versa, fixed the DSP setting for sources of all kinds). Google doesn't seem to know about this, searching this mailing list hasn't helped, nor grep-ing my system for more expressive error reports.
In way of help, can please anybody:
    (1) confirm that they are able with Compressor 3.0.4 to produce H.264 for DSP
    (2) shed some light on what this QuickTime Error: -50 might be, perhaps by pointing me to log files where some more information is given? (fatal exception -50 is not very helpful, really...)
My interest is of course to learn how to bypass the problem, or alternatively to convince DSP to accept H.264 in HD DVD projects generated by encoders others than Compressor with "H.264 for DSP" profile, or alternatively to understand how to make DSP accept H.264 generated by a third-party encoder (eg x264). Does anybody know?
    thanks

    Hi:
I've been experiencing all sorts of issues with compressor, somewhat like this. I think my quicktime plug-ins are the culprit. Example, I have been exporting directly out of Motion with no problems lately, but when I export to Compressor I see my "Flip4Mac" import window several times, then Compressor either fails to export, or crashes.
I would suggest trying a direct export from FCP or Motion, or whatever your source is. See if that works. Just bypass Compressor and choose your HD DVD option from the export window. It does the trick with Motion.

  • Compressor error "QuickTime Error 0"

I am trying to compress a 7 min. video using Final Cut Studio outputting directly to compressor, after about 45 min. of compressing I get the error message "Failure Quicktime Error 0"
    Settings: 2 pass VBR 6.7 - 7.2, 16 x 9
This movie does have alot of transitions, effects etc.
I am able to compress a Sorenson version for review.
Any guidence would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    James

...Some more info on this topic.
I tried the same process on another G5 and got the same error so I don't think it's a machine specific related problem. I also tried rendering the video via Quicktime export uncompressed and got the error: FXScript Divide by 0. Now I think it must be one of my effects or several that is causing the problem.
I am going to go back to previous versions of the project and see if I can render, then perhaps I can isolate the problem. I'll let you all know if I solve it. I have searched the threads and google but have only found more people with the problem and no solutions.
    Thanks,
    James

  • Got Quicktime error: -50 when using compressor 3.0.5

What is Quicktime error: -50? Can't find anything about it. please help.
    Thanks,
    Gina

This thread suggests the problem is either an incompatible filter in the timeline that compressor doesn't process or using a two step transcode, i.e. HDV>ProRes>h.264, with the failure happening in the transcode from ProRes to h.264.
EXACTLY what are you doing when this happens? Codec of source file(s) brought into Compressor, output file type, are the source self-contained or reference, where are the source files located and where are the output files being written?

First try exporting a self-contained movie from FCP, the using the resulting file in Compressor.  To do it, go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use QuickTime Conversion).  In the export window, check the self-contained option but do not "recompress all frames."
Once the export is finished, launch Compressor then use the self-contained file as the source.  If that fails, you may want to try using theis: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/compressorrepair/

  • Compressor 2.3 - Quicktime error:0

    HI All
This morning I wake up with this new thing.
Im using FCP 5.1.1 and a 15minutes DV Pal sequence, already converted in the past. This morning I've tried to re-encode the sequence using DVD 90 min. High quality and I've got this new message : Quicktime error:0
According to Apple , this erro coul appear just in HD sequences with less 1Gb ram. In my case, I've got 1.5Gb RAM and a 720x576 PAL DVcam format.
I've done just a small test. I've esported the sequence (using export/qt/) and compressor does his job! Any idea? What I could to re-export directly from FCp?Thanks in advance!

  • Compressor Job Fail Quicktime Error -120

The program quits before it even starts compressing after I click "Submit"  There is no error message or any indication of why the attempt failed.  Except a grey message to the side that says QuickTime Error -120
I'm using the presets.  Trying to convert a QT movie (Current Settings) to a YouTube file.
    Still using Compressor 3.5.3
    OS 10.5.8
I trashed the prefs and started over, but the same error continues to occur.
It's odd, this is the first time it's happening.  I'm taking following the same steps I've always taken.

OK.. just now out of curiosity I went back into my prefs.
    Deleted 2 Quicktime P.Lists
    Deleted Compressor P.List again
And just for the heck of it deleted my Final Cut User Data and Final Cut P.List
Instead of putting the word YouTube in the file name for either name, I took that out.
Clicked Submit and renamed the file once.. then the second drop down asked me to rename and I named it a different name with no spaces.
    Now it's processing fine.
Not sure what I did, but something worked.

  • Compressor error - Failed:  Quicktime error 0

I'm sending my FCP sequence directly to Compressor and I'm getting this message after I submit:  "Failed:  Quicktime error 0".  It's a 34 minute sequence.  I'm using DVD Best Quality - 90 Minutes as my setting.  I've googled this error and I'm seeing some folks suggest that there may be a corrupt file in the FCP sequence.  Others say that it may be an insufficient RAM issue (not my issue).  My questions:
    -  Has anyone seen this before?  If so, how did you resolve?
    -  If this is due to a corrupt file, how would I go about finding that corrupt file?
Any help would be appreciated.  I'm up against a deadline about to get into panic mode.  thanks!

    Michael,
Try cutting your sequence into ten minute segments to narrow down the problem, if indeed it is a corrupt clip or file.
You may also want to post your sequence settings, also do you have any stills in your timeline, if you do are they in RGB color space and not CYMK

  • Compressor quicktime error -50

i have an fcp project i need to convert to mpeg 4 improved for fast cable streaming. after completing my upgrades of fcp 4.5 and compressor 1.2.1 and fixing the QMaster the file got to the batch monitor. after a second of processing it quit. history says failed: quicktime error-50. any ideas for a fix?

If I may just chime in here with my experience with QT error -50, this seems to be a bug, which I have reported to the FCP development team. There is also another error that compressors batch monitor also reports which is Quicktime error -6662.
These error seem to be quite prevalent on the Intel Mac Pros, but on my G5/quad these errors rarely occur. I have tested the same source files on both workstations, (Mac Pro and G5/quad) and the errors are just about exclusive to the intel's. Once in a blue moon I will get a quicktime error -50, preventing the encode to complete on the G5/quad.
The preliminary opinion of Apple support was that the errors may be related to writing to any drive other than the boot drive, but seems to be a guess at this point, rather than fact. My testing of this hypotheses seems to disprove this assumption, being that I used the boot drive in my test as the destination drive, for encodes.
Still waiting for Apple to address this problem.

Compressor issue, keep getting Failed: QuickTime error.-50. Anyone knows why?

What version of Compressor? Are you sending fom FCP X or another version of Final Cut?
I don't know the implications of getting that particular error code.

  • QuickTime Error: 0 message from Compressor

I recently exported several sequences from FCPro 5.5 to Compressor for conversion to MPEG-2. For some reason, two of the sequences (one is the longest, but only by several seconds; the other is nowhere near the longest) fail in Compressor with the message "QuickTime Error: 0".
I'm pretty sure I'll be able to export those sequences to QuickTime movies then bring those movies into Compressor afterwards...but I'd really like Compressor to work the way it's supposed to. Anyone know what might be going wrong here?
    Thanks.

Okay, I solved the problem. Turned out I had installed Perian (http://perian.org/) a few days back so I could generate FLV movies. (Turned out I didn't need it anyway.) Anyways, it seems to interfere with playback of certain QuickTime movies. I removed Perian, and the problem went away.

  • Quicktime error 0 with compressor

Every time I try to export a sequence from FCP 5.0.2 using compressor I get an error when it tries to export the video saying "quicktime error 0" also when I try to export as a quicktime movie, I get a message saying "general error" im running compressor 2.0.1
    any help is greatly appreciated
    thanks

Udate:  The contained Quicktime file that I exported from FCPX rendered fully with no errors in Compressor, so I guess I"m in the clear, but I think this was an unnecessary extra step.  Its a mystery why I was getting the error when sending the render to Compressor from within FCPX.
Anyone else that has this issue, please share any solutions if you have them.

  • QuickTime Error:-23 in compressor when I try to render any sequence

    QuickTime Error:-23
I have been getting this error in Compressor when I try to render out of FCP and have tried reinstalling FCP and Compressor and then QuickTime 7.6.4. Has anyone ever seen this.
I am running OS 10.5.8 FCP 6.0.6 and QuickTime 7.6.4
    Thanks in advance

Ok I am going to answer my own question.
I just uninstalled the matrox mxo2 software to run the device. Now I can render out of compressor. I guess I have to find a way to run both. I have to go to matrox and get find out how to get this to work.
