Quicktime error message in word

greetings,
not sure if this is the right place for this... i did a search and didn't find another post on this topic...
i'm getting an error message "QuickTime and a decompressor are needed to see this picture" in word 11. i used OnyX to flush some caches and remedy some problems i was having the other day... now i'm getting that error message in files that i generated and viewed fine before on my MBPro... the same files currently view fine on my G5... so obviously i need to reinstall something on my MBPro...
anyone else run across this?
does this mean i need to reinstall quicktime?
word?
something else?
quicktime player seems to play streams fine...
i didn't find anything definitive on microsoft's website... it seemed to suggest looking for 3rd party quicktime plug-ins if encountering this problem... but i never installed any 3rd party plugin, so it must be some standard plugin that needs replacing... i have run diskUtilities -> repair permissions, with no luck...
thanks for any suggestions-
jeffery

Yes, I have tried that. However, there's a problem in the registry that I can't fix no matter what I try. I think I've found a solution though, I'm going to wipe the computer and start from square one, as I don't really have anything that I would lose.

It sounds like if you open Preferences in Word there will be a place where you can specify where to store autorecover files. Right now it sounds like it's pointing to somewhere that doesn't exist.

Can you print to the Adobe PDF printer (I suspect you can not)? Are you logged in as the administrator? Can you find any of the job settings files? If the latter is the case, then you likely do not have permissions set to allow you to read the folder that has all the job settings. If you are not the administrator, you will have to get the administrator to find the folder (it is in one of the document and settings folders under Adobe for XP and under the Users (I think) on Win7) and grant you access.

  • Itunes + quicktime error message - service 'ipod service' (ipod service) fa

Help! Got new iPod Nano for Christmas and I STILL cannot get it to show up in iTunes - it has showed up in my device manager - with an over the icon - "The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Drivers. - Then another error - Wizard cannot find the software to instal -(my iPod did not come with a disk!!!) I have done the "R's" several times! Downloaded and installed and uninstalled several x's from iTunes. Changed USB locations - I have three to choose from. Now - I am 'repairing' the latest installation from iTunes and I get this "itunes + quicktime error message - service 'ipod service' (ipod service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services". Any ideas??? I'm not a computer genious....but I'm not a complete newbie, either! I am so FRUSTRATED!!!! This should be that difficult - I added additional RAM and it was a breeze and successful! This is just ridiculous! Any one have any other ideas???? I have read so much - even emptied the battery and recharged!!! HELP! Please! I just wanna hear some music!!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Thanks - I got it to install by going into 'run' to get to permissions, etc. So that seems OK - but my computer is still not acknowledging iPod software and for some reason iTunes is now showing 'the URL could not be opened' when I go into Help for iPod. It's still not showing up in Itunes, either

My Macbook Pro will not print anything from any program. I've reinstalled the drivers. I get an error message in Word that says, "Word could not communicate with printer." Any ideas?

Be sure to try restarting, if you have not done so since this problem occurred.  You should also power off the printer while you do the restart...
If that does not help, you can try resetting the printing system.  Open System Preferences Print & Scan (or Print & Fax) pane.  In the sidebar with list of printers, right (control) click anywhere.  Select Reset printing system.  You will have to add back your printers after you do this.

  • Upgrading itunes for new ipod 30mb - getting quicktime error message and

    Hi there,
I am upgrading itunes 4.7.1 for a newly purchased ipod 30mb using itunes site downloaded setup.
I am getting an error message as it reaches a certain point and won't install.
    I get this:
The cabinet file "QuickTime.cab"required is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, and error reading from the CD Rom or a problem with this package.
    Then I get
'The installation of QuickTime did not complete. Itunes needs QuickTime'Error message 2350'
This is on a PC with an earlier version Itunes 4.7.1
QuickTime is supposedly up to date and presents not problems.
Any help would be appreciated I am a klutz....

After comprehensive net search I resolved the problem by downloading itunes/quicktime in IE. I had been using mozilla and it was a simple as this!

  • ITunes won't open, QuickTime error message

By accident, I deleted QuickTime, and can now not open iTunes, so I downloaded QuickTime again, recieved a message that QuickTime has been successfully downloaded, but when I try to open/run it, I get this error message:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ContentIE5\TYMNQEZC\Quicktimeinstaller[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application"
I am a computer illiterate, Please help me!

hmmm. let's try an alternate technique for swapping out your QuickTime that doesn't involve redownloading an installer.
first let's just make sure your previous QuickTime is thoroughly gone.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Getting an error message in Word when I am attempting to save the doc as a PDF - word then crashes.

This has only started happening today and I was using it fine yesterday - have tried 3 different ways to create a PDF (1) using the Acrobat tab on the top ribbon (2) Opening Acrobat and using 'create' - to upload a file (3) using save as a PDF [the Acrobat PDFMaker add-in].  I have uploaded the latest version of Acrobat, repaired my Microsoft Office 365.  Is there something I haven't addressed?

    Hey tracyc55762834,
Could you please tell me if you are facing this issue with any specific word file or all files.
You also stated that there is an error message, what is it?
If possible, please share a sample word doc with me so that I can check at my end.
I have sent you a private message with my contact id details.
    Hope to get your response.

  • This movie requires QuickTime error message

I have a new Mac, the latest OS, the latest QuickTime and the latest iTunes. Furthermore, all of my movies/TV shows are purchased via iTunes, so there are no dodgy ripped versions / home movies / media conversions or whatever. It is all Apple from hardware to software to media purchase.
So, I get this message "The movie requires QuickTime which is not supported by this version of iTunes". It seems odd to me that somebody has actually written such an error message in the first place. How can any version of iTunes not support QuickTime, and yet, there is an "official" iTunes error message. Maybe it actually means "This movie requires (an older vesion of) Quicktime which is not supported?"
Anyway, I have researched this already, of course, and there seems no agreed way of dealing with it. Some say rebooting works (if only), others say run it in 32 bit mode (it crashes), others say start it up in safe mode etc. I cannot make it work. A few diagnistic things that may help:
I had several TV series of a show working fine. I downloaded a new series of the show, and now none of the series of that show play, and the artwork has gone.
I tried deleting some shows and adding them to the library again, but they don't add. iTunes behaves as if the files simply aren't there - but they are.
I can go to these shows and double click and they open and play with QuickTime with no problem, so the files are there, and work, and presumably have whatever "codecs" or whatever that are needed to play them.
If anyone out there can help, I'd be really grateful.
Oh, and a message for Apple, if anybody there bothers monitoring these things... This makes me really angry. I pay top dollar for your hardware and software becuase "it just works", then I have to pay a fortune for media bought through iTunes, which is usually far, far cheaper on DVD, and what do I get for that? Constant misery from iTunes. This is far from the first problem I have had. I don't rip or pirate stuff, I'm not trying anything clever, I don't have all sorts of rubbish installed on my Mac, or try running Windows or whatever. I am a simple Mac customer, running your basic stuff, and buying my media from you, and IT DOESN'T WORK. Pathetic! I wish to God I had never got into the whole Apple thing a few years back, which is something I constantly warn friends about if they say they like the look of my Mac.

Have you compared the downloads using "Get Info" to see if the failing ones have some common attribute that the successful ones don't have?  For example, might either the failing or the successful ones be M4V files while the opposite attribute is something else?
The other thing I've thought of is to ask whether you have any i-Devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.) that enter into the problem.  If you have any, they're not involved, right?

  • QuickTime Error Message: "QuickTime Player quit unexpectedly"

Error Message:  "QuickTime Player quit unexpectedly"
From the error report (sent to Apple):
              QuickTime 10.2 (603.6)
              Operation:  Launch
Application Specific Information:  [565] stack overflow
    Hardware and software configurations:
              MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display
               Mac OS X 10.8.2
Affects ALL .mp4 files (double-click and attempting to open file from within QuickTime)
Occurs when attempting to launch QuickTime by double-clicking an .mp4 file, or attempting to open an .mp4 file from the QuickTime menu.  Attempting to open ANY .mp4 file results with this error message.
QuickTime is the default application for all .mp4 files.  Reseting this option via the Finder "Get Info" had no effect.  Changing the option to another video player (e.g., MPEG Streamclip) allowed the .mp4 files to play.  Returning to QuickTime as the default player resulted in same error message (i.e., "QuickTime Player quit unexpectedly").
The video files (.mp4) are not the problem; ALL of the files open within iTunes, MPEG Streamclip, and other video players.  The problem appears to be limited to QuickTime or something that is interfering with QuickTime.
Note that no external drives or other peripherals are connected to the computer when this error occurs, except for a Wi-Fi connection via an Apple Time Capsule (disconnecting the Wi-Fi did not resolve the problem; same error message occurred when attempting to open an .mp4 file).
No 3rd party QuickTime plug-ins have been installed.
QuickTime was working fine and playing ALL videos until the last week.  No discernible usage pattern is evident for diagnosing the reason for the error message.
Note the exact same problem is occurring on two separate MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display systems, both running Mac OS X 10.8.2
    Mac OS X 10.8.2 software is up-to-date.
Rebooting the system did not rectify the problem.
Two separate computers, both exhibiting the same problem with different .mpg4 files.
    Any ideas?
The consideration of a reply is appreciated.

  • How can I stop syncing error message: "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close"

On my Mac I am endlessly receiving this message: "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close" it relates to the sync which between Calendars (iCal and Entourage) .
The error messages were coming up every 5 SECONDS and were impossible to deal with. They stated there was a 'Blame Module' which wasEntourageCore
I have been unable to find any idea how to resolve this.
Please can anyone describe what they have done to sort this?
I am using MS Office 2008.
Turning off the sync between the two calendars was not the answer, as the messages continued. So I have temporarily disabled the sync between iCal/Entourage and my iPad.  This has prevented the error message, but obviously means I must enter diary dates manually on iPad which is the whole point of the sync!
I haven't found a way to sync between iCal and iPad - this would be a possible work-round. But I'd be so grateful to know how to resolve the sync error.

  • QuickTime Error message

After downloading a movie from a camera and then trying to open it in QuickTime, I get an error message "Error Opening Movie, The Movie could not be opened". I then tried to open other QuickTime movie I had previously been able to open and now get the same message. I am using QuickTime Pro 7.1.3.

You may want to uninstall Quicktime only and install the Quicktime standalone. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
Make sure you do install Quicktime as it is needed for iTunes to work.

  • Quicktime Error Message/Can`t uninstall Quicktime

After the last update all **** has broken loose nothing is working have looked all over at the forms for soultions have seen were i should uninstall both iTunes and Quicktime I`ve uninstalled my iTunes and now trying to uninstall the Quicktime so I can start all over and keep getting this error message when ask if I want to repair some files
Error writing to file:C\Program Files\QTSystem\QuickTime.qts. Verify that you have access to that directory
How do I verify that I have access...??? So I can finish uninstalling this mess and get thing running again...

Did you mistype the the path? It should be c:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTsytem\Quicktime.qts.
If you typed it correctly, that's odd.
Assuming you mistyped it, try running a disk check to make sure there isn't a filing system error.
Open My computer and right click on your c: drive, select Properties>>tools>>error checking. Check both the boxes.
The check starts on the next reboot and can take a while.
Download the version of QUicktime that does NOT include iTunes from here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    Close all other programs.
Then try manually uninstalling Quicktime using the method here:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If that goes though OK, Restart your PC and install the stand alone Quicktime.
