Quicktime error stops video recording

I am receiving a Quicktime Error:
"recording stopped because the maximum duration for the file has been reached" Try continuing recording in a new file.
Then it shuts the camcorder off.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Mark

I am also having this same issue. I get the error in Quicktime Pro: "Recording stopped because the maximum duration for the file has been reached. Try continuing recording in a new file."
I called Apple support and they were not able to help but in talking with them I figured out what might be the problem. Often there are some breaks in the data being transmitted across firewire because there was a drop out in the tape. I believe that this is the problem because I would keep getting the error in the same part of the tape. There is no timecode break so if I capture in Final Cut Pro, I get two files instead of one but I at least can record the whole thing without stopping. The reason I want to use Quicktime is to record at a smaller screen size.
My work around is buy better tapes! Or to play the video past the problem area (this may mean losing some video) and start a new recording. Alternatively, use final cut pro to do your recording. If you use iMovie and want to adjust the volume, you may need to use a mixer and a digital converter box to do it all in one shot. Doing it this way you may lose some video quality as well.
Good luck everyone. I hope this helps.

I am having a terrible time with Quicktime 7 and it's automatic stopping of a recording during recording.
Apple locked the posts that are years old .. but still the problem persists.
I am trying to transfer a simple VHS in high quality .. and can't find a way.
    Anyone have a solution?

I found a app called Vidi for Formac Firewire DV converters. It may work with others .. but it solved my issue of the recording stoppinng due to poor VHS quality or breaks in the video.

  • My PowerShot SX260 HS stops video recording prematurely. Why?

My PowerShot SX260 HS stops video recording prematurely.  The elapsed time turns red for a few seconds then it stops recording.  This usually happens around the 16 min. mark on 1080p video.  I just bought a faster Class 10 Ultra SDXC memory card rated for HD video.  It did not help at all.  I also tried low level formatting the card.  How can I record longer videos?

I am having a similar problem. This has happened to me and I have NO CLUE why. I am not sure for how long we were recording a video scene for something (my cousin and I were making a video with my Powershot camera). This thing suddenly stops working and then it did not let me record anything else. Why?
However, I need to know if this solution will prevent this problem from happening. I managed to delete one video scene and it lets me record videos, HOWEVER, I have an 8 GB SD card and this is what's more confusing: The camera screen is labeled 1' 17" remaining. What does that mean? Does this message mean that at some point, the camera will stop recording stuff?

  • Cannot stop video recording

The stop button for videoing doesn't work! I can't stop any recording.
    Any ideas?

Close the app.  Restart the device.  Open the app again and test the issue.

  • How do I stop Quicktime from stopping recording when it believes the signal is lost?

I'm trying to digitize old VHS home videos through Quicktime (latest version). But when the tracking goes a bit awry, Quicktime stops recording telling me "RECORDING STOPPED, TRY RECORDING AGAIN."
This is not true. It's just an instance of a bad part of the tape. It took me 13 days just to record one 6 hour tape because I had to start a new recording every few moments. I had hundreds of files!
How do I stop Quicktime from ending a video recording when it believes the signal is lost? Is there a way of turning this 'feature' off? If not, does Apple have a software that will do what I'm asking? Final Cut Pro X or something else?
    Thank you!

Here is a screenshot of the error. As you can see, I got a full 4 seconds of video recorded before Quicktime X believed the signal was lost (just a bit of off tracking).

  • Quicktime - New Video Recording using Canon HV30 - Codec?

I'm using Quicktime Pro 7.4.1 with a Canon HV30 connected via firewire. In Quicktime preferences pane, the HV30 is the video source with "Device Native" as the Quality setting. Though, I can't see a preview in the Quicktime window while recording, it does appear to record footage. When I stop the recording, it says that I don't have the codec to view the footage and sends me to the Quicktime plug-in page on this site, but I have no idea what I need.
Considering some of the codecs (if not all of them) cost money, I'd rather not buy something that won't fix my problem. Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: Oh yeah, the camera is set to HDV 1080i60 video standard. When I switch the camera to SDV, the Quicktime preview returns and everything works as expected.

I have not, but I do not use PS3 eye. If it is a "UVC" (usb video class) device, it should work with any Mac running Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later _without additional software drivers_. Some unnecessary drivers can conflict with your Mac's software.
If desired, you can remove the file macam.component from /Library/QuickTime and restart Mac to see if the PS3 eye can work with QuickTime without the additional driver.

I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (e.g. .m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing), all I want QuickTime to do is export the file in a compressed format. Bizzarely, if I shutdown and open QuickTime many times I can occasionally export a clip as another format (maybe one in 10 times). I have seen that other users have had a similar problem after clipping files in QuickTime but this seems to be a slightly different bug in that all I do is open the file and then try and export the file as is - either way, this is a very annoying bug

@Z_B-B, thank you for taking the time to respond to my cry for help. However, the link you supplied does not address the problem: I am not trying to export from Final Cut Pro to QuickTime, I am trying to export from QuickTime to the rest of the world (like people's iPhones and Ipads) in .m4v format (so I am not emailing my freinds such huge files).
If I were to spend hundreds of Dollars on a copy of Final Pro I could export directly from there and not have to bother with QuickTime, but I do not take enough video clips to justify the cost. I must say that I never had any of these problems before I decided to switch from Snow Leopard to Mountai Lion.

I would like to ask the following question. I am using mac os x 10.9 maverics me quicktime player version 10.3. Can I trim a video recording without having to press the pause or save it as a file? Or can I add a new recording to a video file? Thanks in advance

    Well,
I tried the "Internet Recovery" option and finally saw Mac OS X Mountain Lion's install page but after waiting 7 hours when I just thought its going to start installing, I got another progress bar with 36 hours remining time to download "Additional Components" then after progressing 2-3 hours, it shows "Unable to write installation something..., Contact Apple Care"
Then I accidently rebooted the machine and now it seems Internet Recovery don't work anymore, it shows "support.apple.com - 40 something!" error, and finally when I tried to reboot using Recovery HD, I found it's gone as-well!
To be honest, I don't know what to do now, I am and dissapointed... also I do not have any Apple Store nearby, there is an authorized country reseller almost 650/km far away from my residents and they even charges too high (like $250) for doing such repairs (as per phone conversation)
If anyone have any idea or anything to help me with, please do share- I'd be eternally grateful!

  • T4i Rebel error message "movie recording has stopped automatically"

I was recording my client when suddenly I got a this error message "movie recording has stopped automatically" and I could not record video anymore. I am recording on a class 10 sandisk Ultra card. 720/60, EFS18-135mm lens. Never had any problems in the past. First I get a small veterical meter on the frame and then after 5 secs the recording stops with this error message. Please tell me it is opeartor error...I have had this camera for 2 years now and never had a problem. I tried multiple cards.
    thanks for the help,
    DM

Either you or the person you spoke to at Canon was confused.
What the camera requires for video purposes is a card which is "at least" Class 6 or faster.  The class designation is an indicator of the cards data transfer speed.  Class 6 actually means the card is capable of transfering data (either reading or writing) at "at least" 6 megabytes per second.  A Class 10 card can transfer data at "at least" 10 megabytes per second.
The T4i is also compatible with "UHS-1" cards... which are significantly faster than eithe Class 6 or 10.
The reason for requiring "at least" Class 6 has to do with how fast the camera is attempting to capture and save frames of video to the card.  The camera actually has an internal memory buffer which is very fast.  When you start recording, the data is being saved to that buffer... and simultaneously the camera also starts taking the data from the buffer and saving it to the memory card (which is slower).  If the camera is recording video only slightly faster than the card can record, then it will actually take a few minutes before the buffer is completely filled.  But at that point the camera has no choice but to stop recording because it has absolutely no place to save data ... the internal buffer is full and it can't empty the buffer because the memory card can't save data as fast as new frames of video are coming in.
    Faster is always better.
Memory cards do actually wear out and develop errors over time.  This is normal.  A good card will re-map the bad blocks so they aren't used anymore... and this is why you should do a low-level format IN CAMERA (not using the computer).  Good cards also have a "memory leveling" technology to try to use all the blocks roughly an equal number amount.   This extends the userful life of the card.
When replacing the card, do not skimp on quality!  I cannot emphasize that point enough.  Most times when someone brings up this issue... it's the card that is having problems and not the camera.
It's easy to produce forgery cards which look like a good brand but are not.  Buy GOOD cards from REPUTABLE dealers.  Do not shop for the cheapest website on the Internet with a questionable reputation in order to save a couple of bucks.
Lexar brand and SanDisk brand are good.
When buying memory cards, I only buy cards from Lexar and SanDisk.  I also buy their highest end cards (by speed performance... not necessarily their biggest capactiy cards).  I buy the cards from dealers with a solid reputation.  This avoids the unpleasant error messages which always seem to happen at the worst possible time.

  • Error message when recording video

Have QT 7 Pro and it sees my camera, I set up hit record and I see the audio bar moving but the screen is black. When I stop the recording I get this error message:
*RECORDING FAILED BECAUSE NO DATA WAS RECEIVED*
*Make sure that the media input source is turned on and playing.*
Well the device is plugged in and turned on and the Mac sees it on the QT program because when I choose 'Movie Inspector' my camera is chosen as the source. Also the A/V settings are greyed out as to not be able to adjust.

Check that your video drivers are up to date.

  • Presenter video recording from PowerPoint has stopped working

My Adobe Presenter 9.02 Build 173 has suddenly developed a problem where recording video from within PowerPoint has stopped working. I have Office 2013 32-bit and Windows 8.1 64 bit. I believe that Presenter installed itself automatically in the installation process as a 64-bit application.
When I press the 'record now' icon on the Presenter toolbar, PowerPoint opens the current displayed in Slide Show view and I get the following error message:-
"Adobe presenter has encountered unexpected problem while working with this presentation......" etc.
This video recording feature from within PowerPoint has worked just fine on my system with the identical setup as mentioned in my opening paragraph but it's suddenly stopped working for some reason? I checked and do have the latest graphics driver.
The stand - alone video creator tool records video outside of PowerPoint just fine but as stated, I can’t execute recording from the ‘record’ icon on the Presenter menu in PowerPoint.
I tried the following without success:-
I created a new PowerPoint file and tried to repeat the recording process
I ran PowerPoint as Administrator and ran the file ‘Adobe-Pr-VC.exe’ (in C:\Program Files\Adobe) as Administrator
    I uninstalled and re-installed Presenter
I turned off my AV software and firewall
I created a new Windows Administrator account and tried video recording within PowerPoint
Anyone have any ideas on what else I could try?
    Peter

Solved! In the end, the solution was simple!
I went to the PowerPoint 2013 ribbon and clicked on 'Slide Show' and unchecked 'Use Presenter View' and video recording from within PowerPoint immediately started working fine. Previously, the 'Use Presenter View' box had a check mark in it. When you click on the record video button in Presenter, PowerPoint goes into slide show view and clearly Presenter doesn't like PowerPoint opening the Slide Show view in Presenter view.
I picked up on this from another PC I have with PowerPoint 2013 and Adobe Presenter 9. The video recording feature worked every time on that PC and I noticed that the only difference was that the newer PC had a check mark next to 'Use Presenter View' where as the older PC setup didn't.
So everything is working well now!

i cant export my video into anything i keep getting a QuickTime Error -50

Unfortunately, these boards have too many similar complaints.
There are variety of things that seem to cause these exporting failures. Most seem to relate to corrupted clips. Here's a list of fixes that have worked to solve some of the reported problems.
First it's worthwhile to trash preferences; use this app.
    Turn off Background Rendering.
From within FCP, delete project render files and event render files. Select a short section and export without rendering. If it works, export the full project. If it doesn't work…
Create a new project. Copy the old project and paste into the new project. Export a short test and if it exports. export the full project. If that doesn't work…
    Create a new user account.
    Good luck.
