Quicktime Export Fails to Recognize Audio in MPG1 files
When exporting MPEG1 to any other format with QT Pro, audio options are greyed out ('No Audio in Original'), and, predictably, the export file has no audio.
VisualHub exports MPEG1 with audio just fine. But I've paid for QT Pro, and not VisualHub.
This has to be a bug in QT, right? MPEG1 is, unfortunately, still pretty common, and I would think Apple wants users to be able to put whatever video they have on their iPods.
Thanks in advance.

NB: Is it possible for moderators to retroactively edit topic subjects to be much more specific? The more likely a visitor is to find her topic answered, the fewer new topics there are, less repetition, etc.
Even better, consolidating the most common questions into 5 or 10 stickies would save visitors much time, and the people who answer these questions, exponentially more time.
Thank you for the answer. The information was useful, the tone was not what I expected. When I asked whether more specific headings could be encouraged, I meant it out of sympathy for the moderators/answerers, not to incur their ire. Perhaps it would have been better if I'd left out the editorial comment.
I searched for 'audio', which I thought was a more technical term than 'sound'.
I read the indicated specs for QT above. The MPEG shortcoming is not laid out there clearly in any sense. MPG is not listed as an export format, so from that I would conclude QT can't export to MPEG1.
It is clear in the Apple article. For it to be 'clear' to anyone right away, it should be added in one sentence to the relevant help section of QT: 'QT will not export files with some codecs because of their proprietary neature.'
Or it should be in a pop-up message as soon as you try to export an mpg: 'Because mpeg is ownded by someone else, export will only render video'.
I believe I asked a valid question, and provided a specific account of my problem, so this post will be useful for future browsers.
Because VisualHub dealt easily with mpg, I thought QT must too. I was wrong.

Quicktime export failed - out of memory
After I managed to open AVCHD (MTS) movies with AE CS4 I just tried to export a 2 min movie. I export as H264 1280x720.
I keep getting this error "quicktime export failed - out of memory"
It also happend when using SD movies
I have 2GB ram and a dual core inter E6550.
Does anyone encountered such problem ?Are you rendering and exporting using the render queue, or are you using the Export command in the File menu? You should almost always use the render queue.
See
"Rendering and exporting movies using QuickTime components" and
"About rendering and exporting". -
After Effects error: Quicktime export failed - Out of memory (-108)
I am using CS3 After Effects and have been receiving this After Effects error: Quicktime export failed - Out of memory (-108). Can anyone help with this issue?
I am using a Mac Pro 6-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz with 6 memory slots at 1GB DDR3 ECC at Speed 1333MHz.Sounds like one of those many "old version of AE on new hardware" issues... You may need to fiddle with Rosetta or install it in teh first place, if you haven't already and you may also require a specific older version of Quicktime...

Quicktime export from FCP universal, audio export function
Hey there, I just recently bought the 17 inch mac book pro and did the crossgrade swap to the latest version of FCP studio.
Doing my first complete video edit and DVD project and am at the export stage.
I am doing what I normally do on my dual 2.5 g5 and setting and IN point and an OUT point in FCP and exporting using quicktime.
Just as the defaults, (I do this and have done this dozens and dozens of times)
I do this, then I import that file (after FCP is done into compressor and go from there)
we all know the export using compressor thing isnt ready for primetime..
anyway, doing this and after the first dialgo box is done and it seems the whole thing is done...then a box comes up saying its exporting AUDIO and its going to take 4 hours!
I didnt choose this extra step, the default quicktime export dealy (not "using quicktime conversion) had all this covered I thought...I mean, it has every other time on the OTHER computer)
I canceled this and checked my resulting exported file (the quicktime one) and all the audio and video is intact..
but the process I cancelled bothers me...any ideas?
thanks so much> sorry I am all over the place info wise maybe
No problem - we all find it hard to explain things clearly when we're frustrated by problems like this!
Well that's strange - but at least it's clear what's happeneing now!
I'm at a loss really but if it were me, I'd trash the preferences and repair permissions, then if that didn't work, I'd create a new project in FCP and transfer the clips over. Sometimes this can iron out strange bugs.
Failing all, I'd create a new ID on my Mac and work from there - but if this works, then Jerry's advice regarding the clean install is a must, really.
Another thing I'd try is exporting direct through Compressor - it's a wonderful tool and you really should get to know it. It would be worth using Compressor to export a QT movie to see whether it makes any difference.
Is the full project on the G5 as well as the MBP?

Quicktime Export Failing! Help!
i am making some Keynote presentations and was using the Export function to QT to make DV files for use in FCP.
i had 3. the first 2 worked perfectly fine. took about 20 minutes per... but exported no problem.
the third. which was actually my longest presention (maybe 40 slides) and maybe 20 minutes or so... refuses to export.
i have tried the file on 2 different machines now. and tried tweaking the settings any number of ways... same error every time.
"There’s not enough disk space, or there was a problem with the file. Error -1."
the first machine has well over 150GB free space. the second around 25GB. first has 4GB RAM... second has 6GB.
so i am leaning towards it NOT being a disk space issue (obviously) and more the second part. i really don't want to redo all the audio tracks... and then try again (possibly unsuccessfully... again.)
it is always failing on the same slide. the slide isn't anything fancy though. i tried exporting with no audio... that also failed at the same point. so i am thinking the audio is fine.
so what i am wondering :
1) has anyone else seen this and fixed it?
2) is there any way to extract the audio track... i noticed Keynote files aren't fake folders anymore... seemingly.
3) if i delete the slide it seems to fail on... how badly will that screw up the actual sequence? what if i replace it with a static page or something? will it still screw up the sync?
like i said the other 2 files worked 100% perfectly... luck has it... this was the main big complicated one that i most wanted as a prerecorded presentation.
really really don't want to have to rerecord all the audio again.
read around... someone fixed something similar by nixing the drop shadows... i did that. still bad. someone else had a problem with charts... i have 0 charts.
thanks.+1) has anyone else seen this and fixed it?+
Yes and yes... just.
+3) if i delete the slide it seems to fail on... how badly will that screw up the actual sequence? what if i replace it with a static page or something? will it still screw up the sync?+
I'm not sure it's actually a corrupt slide. I found that the movie played fine on my imac (10.5) and sitting on the desktop. It would play up on the G5 (10.4) when working from the server. Worked fine on the boss's macbook (10.5) and on his desktop. So, when I started getting that error and losing the ability to copy between slides, I started to save and work from the desktop exclusively and it seems to be working.
So, either it's only being able to work from the desktop or it only likes to play in 10.5.
*fingers crossed*
Cheers -
Everytime I try to export a movie it fails. I have Quicktime 7.0.4 PRO and Flip4Mac 2.0.2.10 and the QuickTime MPEG-2. I've tryed different settings and media types nothing seems to help.

Mac OS X (10.4.6) -
I've got a 106 MB Sorenson Video 3, 640 x 480, Million, 30 FPS clip that plays fine, but cannot be re-exported with any codec using QT Pro 7.0.3 or 7.0.4 on MacOS X 10.4.2, 10.4.3, or 10.4.6. (Incidentally, this clip was created by our MacPyMOL product using the Carbon QuickTime API...for what it's worth).
QuickTime always returns the error "Failed <11>" about a minute after starting the export process...
Temporary workaround found: Re-export the original clip as a lossless sequence of PNG images (thankfully that works!), then open the sequence of frames recompress under the new codec.
Does anyone know what is going on?
PowerMac G5 Dual and Quad tested Mac OS X (10.4.6) QuickTime 7.0.3, 7.0.4I have a very similar 210MB Sorenson Video 3, 640x480 @ 30fps. Plays fine but can't export using any codec, error is "Failed [11]". However, I can "share" the clip to email, and then drag the attachment into a finder window before sending. Unfortunately, none of the sharing presets are at the quality level I need. I successfully exported a few seconds of the clip using copy and paste into a new quicktime window. Copying the whole clip into a new window and exporting doesn't work.
I don't know what would be different between 'share' and 'export', but since share exports successfully, while export doesn't, the source video's codec and other details can be ruled out, right? This issue seems like a Plain Ol' Bug to me...

Quicktime export failed error -10
Hi there,
Everytime I try and export to Quicktime Movie (with -for example- "broadband medium" option) I get a "Failed error -10" message.
This seems to work when I try and export ANY type of file, mpeg4/h.264/dv pal quicktime movies.
Any ideas... can't find anything about it after a quick search of these forums and google.
It used to work, and then stopped one day... can't trace my steps to find out why.
Cheers,
NezBeen so long since I've seen one but isn't error -10 a I/O error message?
Are you using an external or networked hard drive when trying to export?
Does an export to your Desktop work as intended?
What is the file format of the connected drive? -
Premiere Pro exports fail to recognize changes made to Dynamic Link through After Effects
Hi there,
I am having an issue with Premiere Pro CC and Dynamic Links/After Effects CC.
I will be working within the PP CC timeline using footage, and then add motion graphics using Adobe Dynamic Link to AE CC. I notice an error in timing, or spelling, colouring - literally any type of error in AE CC that I want to correct. I go to AE CC and make the correction, go back to PP CC, and it shows up as changed. I go back to AE CC, purge media cache, memory, etc. and save the workfile. I go back to PP CC and export using Media Encoder. After waiting for the export to complete, I find it maintained the same error from a previous edit.
Does anyone know why this would be? Is there any way to avoid having to restart every time I make a small change to an edit?
Thank you in advance for any insight. It has now happened to myself and my co-worker. The only way we have been able to "solve" the problem is by deleting cache/restarting both programs/restarting the entire computer. It shows up as changed within the Premiere project, as well as in the preview in Adobe Media Encoder - and then the final output does not reflect those changes.
Another suggested workaround to anyone else out there who is problem solving is exporting directly from Premiere, but none of these solutions seem to work 100% of the time, nor really address what this problem really could be stemming from. -
ITunes failing to recognize location of m4a files?
My iTunes currently has an exclamation mark next to all the songs in m4a format in my library, even though these files have not moved at all and it has dealt with those files for years. Is there some way to get iTunes to recognize all those files where they are? About half my library is in mp3 format and iTunes is having no issue at all with those files. I am using iTunes to organize my music folder, but this problem with m4a files persists.
If there is a folder-by-folder solution, that would work, but I can't go locate file-by-file since we're talking 10-15 GBs of music (when I locate a file in that fashion, it does work, but it would take a prohibitive amount of time to do for each song).
I've tried consolidating the library, which accomplished nothing, and when I reimport one of the folders with m4a files, it thinks they're new songs and doesn't delete the exclamation marks on the "old" songs (that's a problem because these songs are already in lots of playlists, etc, and that info would be lost). I've also tried "repairing" (aka reinstalling) both Quicktime and iTunes using the "Add/Remove Program" icon in the Control Panel to no effect.
This is driving me crazy so any help is MUCH appreciated! Please ask if anything is unclear or more info is needed.I could still really use help with this problem. I should add that my music files are stored on an external hard drive. This alone is clearly not the source of the problem, as iTunes has no problem playing and managing the mp3s even as it has put an exclamation mark next to all the songs stored in the m4a format.
This issue began (I think) when I imported a CD while the external drive was disconnected. This imported the songs to the C:\ drive iTunes folder. When I got back to my external drive, I reconnected to it, deleted the new songs from the library, and reimported them so that they were copied onto the library on the external drive. That was no problem at all, but then this issue with m4a files cropped up.
Alternatively, upgrading to iTunes 8 may have caused this -- I'm not sure. Either way, I could really use a solution to this.

Finder fails to recognize fonts and other files
My Mac recently crashed beyond repair so I erased the disk and installed osx tiger, all updates, and all my applications. All apps run ok, files with extentions are associated properly, but all fonts and files without extensions are seen by the mac as 0kb unix executables. I cannot turn any fonts on with suitcase fusion or font book. I tried trashing the launch preference files and that did not work. Same problem with proprietary apps (such as my dongle viewer). My quark files without extentions also are not recognized properly. I really was hoping not to have to reinstall the operating system again. Any help is greatly apprieciated.
G4 Mac OS X (10.4.9)Thank you for the answer.
Quicktime 7.5 update, no audio in avi
Just "updated" my quicktime pro, and have lost audio for avi files, worked fine before update. I see this is not an isolated problem, LOTS of posts on the mac side. Apparently no support from apple on issues such as this? No testing before release?
Can I remove quicktime and reload the earlier version?I had the same annoying problem and Apple rarely offers support in a timely fashion (if at all) so don't bother waiting for an answer from them. Here's a very easy solution that should do the trick:
- Quit Quicktime.
- Download and install Perlian from http://perian.org/ (it's free open source goodness!)
- Open your avi file and enjoy hearing your movie once more.
Yep, that's it! As long as your movie's audio is still intact when played in VLC or Windows Media Player, this fix should work. Best of luck! -
Exporting entire movie's audio as one track
We are looking to export all of the audio as one file so it
can be brought into Adobe Premeire, bringing it in in pieces is
just not feasible. Too labor intensive.
I do not have captivate installed here as we use camtasia but
i've been asked if it'd save time if we used Captivate for our
training (of course I think we should!) but Camtasia records the
audio as one long track. Which is what we need.Hi Marc,
Hopefully you are using Captivate 4? If you are, then this
functionality is provided and you can export complete project
(slides) audio for you. This feature is called "Export to Podcast"
and its available at two places inside Captivate.
1. Once slides are ready with audio, follow menu item 'File
> Export > Export to Podcast"
2. Follow menu items "Audio > Edit Project > Export to
Podcast"
Thus you can have a single file comprising of your project
audio, in a .wav or .mp3 format.
Hope this will solve your problem.

Keynote export to Quicktime still fails after upgrade to iWork 09.1
After the update to iwork 9.1 the export to quicktime still fails with 'there is not enough disk space or there was a problem with the file Error - 108'
I bought a Mac for my use at home, (got a strong one with work in mind) - keynote with embedded FCP movies in some slides made one great presentation for work. Planned to deploy it to sales and our clients and develop more. but it does not run on quicktime so after 3 months the plan has taken a nose dive.
Its tough times, Keynote style presentations with live demos of our software (embedded movies) can make a difference. But it will have to run on a PC because that is what our clients and sales force have.
With export to quicktime not working and removal of export to flash i iWork 09 , there seems to be no way to deploy a Keynote presentation to a PC dominated corporate world? and I would be very interested to know if there is a way.
I have followed all the posts and even narrowed this issue in my case to hyperlinks
but none of the solutions solve the problem
The more complex the presentation in relation to embedded movies, hyperlinks etc sooner or later triggers this problem.I'm also trying to utilize Keynote for the PC world and NEED the export to Quicktime. I also don't notice any improvement in Keynote '09. I think the workaround has to be to export the Quicktime files - which I'm now accepting will always have mismatched timings and other problems into another program for "fixing". This weekend I plan to test various. I hate to say I will have to revert to PowerPoint because it accepts audio and video files longer than 99 seconds. FYI, I just read on another post that manually clicking through your Keynote while having a screen capture program record a Quicktime may be a solution, although I'm concerned for audio/video quality. I just downloaded a free trial of Snapz Pro to see if that works today too. Let me know if you find a solution.

W500 w/ Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate fails to recognize some audio CDs
My DVD/CD drive (a HL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GSA-U20N) in my Lenovo W500 laptop (running Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate) fails to recognize some audio CDs.
It recognizes most audio CDs, but a few are not recognized by Windows 7 itself, or by any other program on my computer.
These CDs are recognized by other Windows 7 computers.
I don't think that it's a copy protection issue, since the CDs don't mention any copy protection scheme (and also since they work on other Windows 7 machines).
One CD that wasn't recognized by my machine was the second CD from a two CD set (the first CD was correctly recognized).
I have the latest updates for Windows, and all my programs, drivers, BIOS & firmware.
Thanks. What kind of behavior are you getting from the drive? If it's spinning up, down, and up again your lens might be dirty or the drive could be failing.
If you do clean the lens, be careful. Do your research first or you might make it worse.
Edit: Replacements are:
42T2511 or 42T2541 (DVD)
42T2543 or 42T2513 (DVD/CD-RW combo)
42T2545, 42T2515 or 42T2551 (DVD-RAM/RW)
You can get the 42T2543 for $23 and the 42T2545 for $45 on eBay.
