QUICKTIME EXPORT FOR iPOD NOT COMPRESSING

I'm having a QT problem. It seems no matter what size QT file I want to compress into an iPod file, it either stays the same size or gets larger. Ever since the QT update to 7.1.3, I've been having strange things going on with my QuickTime. I'm also having a problem Exporting a QT file into a WMV file through Flip4Mac plugin. Anyone else having compression problems like the iPod exporting? Or can anyone suggestion why my QT Pro is not compressing QT clips into iPod format??

Is there a way to force Quicktime to use Multi-Pass encoding with an iPod-compatible h.264 Configuration?
Yes. In QT Pro (or application with QT Pro routines access) simply use the "Movie to MPEG-4" export option and restrict the Profile to "Baseline" and set mode to "Best (multi-pass)" in the advanced options window. However, be advised that this workflow is limited to the original H.264 settings and will not produce a 640 x 480 "LC" profile/higher data rate iPod compatible movie. Where "LC" files are required, try using either MPEG Streamclip (my preference) or ffmpegX application for conversion. Both allow the multi-pass option.
The second Pass doesn't double encoding time, but it does result in a much more usable file with a lower bitrate (and lower filesize).
True, however, depending on content and possible custom video data rate user settings, multi-pass conversions can become less stable and monotonically exceed qunatimization limitations making the movie unsynchable to iPod or even unplayable in QT/iTunes players. If this happens, you can switch back to the single-pass mode which is much more stable and clips the data rates much more efficiently to conform to target average. Basically, think of the multi-pass mode as an attempt to acheve "constant quality" (which somestimes fails) and the single-pass as a "constant data rate" (which varies the quality to maintain stability) mode.

    Can someone please tell me why I am getting no sound when I export any of my quicktime video for iPOD use? The video comes out great, but there is no sound to accompany it. I upgraded to Quicktime Pro just for this purpose and am having no luck. I have tried a few different videos, but have had no luck with this sound issue.

  • Quicktime Export for web

    i have exported a video for web using quicktime and when i try to upload it, i wont play... i have the video uploaded (the actual .mov) but i dont upload another file that is exported (the .m4v) because is like 200MB and the .mov is only 4KB. how can i make the player on the web, play the .mov file instead of the .m4v? hope u understand... Thanks in advance.

    How to make it smaller in file size than your original 5.5 GB file?
    You just did when you used the "Export for Web" feature and it was reduced to 200 MB's in file size.
    200 MB's is still much too large for Web use as your viewers will not wait for your file to download.
    Break up your 25 minute "masterpiece" into 5 minute "chunks" or compress it further by using:
    Export > Movie to QuickTime Movie
    Reduce the data rate, file dimensions and choose H.264 video codec and AAC audio. Forget "stereo" to reduce that part of the file. Reduce dimensions to reduce the video part of the file size. Cut the "frame rate" by 50% to make even a smaller file size. Your Web viewers will probably not notice.
    Do some tests with a one minute sample file to learn what works best for your file. Compare the new exports (side by side) by using the "Play All Movies" feature of QuickTime Pro.
    After a few sample exports you'll quickly see which data rate, frame rate and video compression codec works best for your file.

  • Exporting for ipod

    Ok, so I have my film in FCP 5 and I want to export it for ipod and apple tv. I tried to use compressor, (first using the ipod setting) although when I brought it into itunes it did not keep the 16:9 setting, and the quality was extremely poor. What am I doing wrong? Anyone have any ideas?

    It doesn't really matter how you export in FCP - you're still going to have to convert it using iTunes. Obviously you want to get the best quality you can going into iTunes, so I would suggest using Export>Quicktime Movie>Self-contained. Then, using the subsequently created file that has pristine quality, take it into iTunes and convert.
    There might be a better way to do it, but that's the only way I know. I do know that the best quality you can get out of FCP is to export it as a Quicktime Movie. That's the first thing you want to do.
    Have you checked in the iPod forum?
    jesse.
    p.s. Have you tried Compressor? It has settings for exporting to iPod. I haven't tried them, but that might be something to look into.

  • Automator Export for iPod

    Hey everyone,
    Anybody have any ideas (or know of any downloadable workflows) for automating Quicktime Pro to open files and export them in a specified format? Specifically I'm hoping to export home videos for my iPod.
    Thanks,
    Dan P.

    For $10 and given the QT workflow and codecs etc., is a pretty big mystery to most folks, if it works as claimed it is probably (or something like it) the best choice for most users. There will still be a lot of people with non conforming AVI and MPEG's that will need something else.
    One thing for sure unless you want the "best" whether you can see it nor not, the H264 codec is probably overkill for Ipod and so slow vs. MP4.
    I have to say the forum for this Podner program is very informative and offers fast response (including testing non compliant files) - that alone for people unfamiliar with video transcoding might make it worth it.

  • Quicktime Export for iWeb

    Last year I ran Quicktime Pro and flip4mac to open a WMV file and export it to a small format that I could quickly place in iWeb.
    I tried it this year using the new QuickTime...and I don't see an export option.
    I tried "save as" and "Save for web" option but could not figure out where to go from there.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Phil

    If by "new QuickTime", you are referring to QuickTime X Player in Snow Leopard, you will need to use QuickTime 7 Player, which should be in your Applications/Utilities folder if you installed SL as an upgrade to your 10.5 installation. QuickTime X Player does not, at least at this time, have much in the way of export options.

  • Best video file type to export for iPod?

    Am using Premiere to edit movies, and was wondering what is best file format to export for eventual iPod conversion to get the best quality?

    I am not familiar with Premiere, but below are the limits which are supported:
    H.264 video up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats;
    MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
    H.264 will give the best quality and smallest file sizes, but the price of this is time, H.264 conversion is time consuming as it is very processor intense.

  • FCP quicktime "iphone "export diff then quicktime "export for iphone web"??

    so what i dont get, is when i export out of quicktime using "export for web" and i choose the "iphone" 900 kbit option, i get 480X270 beautiful true widescreen clips. But when I export using quicktime conversion in final cut pro 6 and i choose" iphone"....i get 480X360. Why does this happen? I want true widescreen, just like everything i get from itunes.....not this 360 size (which i know is the phones screen res, but who cares)?

    Earlybird is exporting H264 ... the Key Frames setting is determining the GOP length. This value should really be determined based on the complexity of the video, to my understanding, the actual frame rate has no bearing on it. If you have very complex fast moving content then a low Key Frame rate is advisable to ensure good image quality (although it will adversely affect the filesize) whereas if you have slow moving or static content (like an interview subject) then a higher Key Frame rate will still produce a good image but at a smaler filesize. The default of 24 should be pretty much fine as a catchall starting point.
    Earlybird
    Corrupted render files (and render references) can be a pain because FCP will use those files and references  in place of the original media when building the export. And so it should as it does't want to waste time re-rendering sections that are apparently already rendered. Unfortuantely, as noted, if the render file has gone bad and/or starts referencing the wrong media then you'll get these wierd flashes of completely unexpeced and unwanted footage showing up where it shouldn't be. When you trash those files then QT / FCP will just go back and re-reference the original media ... so it's usually a worthwhile step to take just in case thats the problem.  The worse case scenario is that it only that doesn't work and you spend some time unecessarily re-rendering.
    As to why these files go bad? That I don't know. Why do Preferences get corrupted? That I don't know either but it definitely happens :-(

  • Quicktime Export For Web files inaccessible

    I accidentally posted this in the QT for Windows section, but I'm a Mac guy.
    This is totally bizarre. As of this afternoon, all of the QT files (generated with Export for Web from QT7.6) that I've posted over recent days and weeks, on multiple servers, played back by different computers at different locations, running QT 7.6.4 and 7.6.6, OSX 10.5.8 to 10.6.3, WILL NOT PLAY. How is this possible?
    If I connect directly to the original .mov file (as opposed to the "alias" .mov file generated by Export for Web), then it will play. If I connect to the .m4v file, my browser wants to download it, and then play it.
    What's going on here? Apparently I'm not the only one to have this problem. Is this due to some sort of DRM update put in place on account of the iPad introduction? iTunes and QT have been updated on at least one of the computers I've tried this with, and it didn't make a difference.

  • Export for actionscript - Not in first frame

    Just a simple question.
    Don't need to know if it works or not I have tested it. What
    I want is to understand. Here it is:
    If I use the Export for actionscript and I unselect the
    Export in first frame, the item that will be linked by the ID in
    the library must appear on the timeline. Normally it must be on a
    frame that has played. IE frame 3 the item is there so I can use it
    from the frame 3 to the last frame. This is how it works for the
    _root. If I'm in a clip, the code can be on the first frame with a
    stop. That means that the Item is on the second frame and has not
    displayed, but it is accessible by the code.
    Why?
    Why on the root the item must appear on the frame where the
    code is or before the code, but if in a clip, the code can works
    even the item reside on a later frame that will never display
    because there is a stop on the first one?
    Tanx for your help to understand!

    I think that this is probably because of how flash streams
    content. In order for flash to play frame 2 on the timeline, it
    COMPLETELY loads all the code and assets for that frame (but not
    frame 3) and then 'plays' that frame. Therefore on the main
    timeline, code on frame 2 can't access exported clips from frame 3.
    However, if your movie clip is (for example) on frame 4,
    flash will stream/load everything (including your complete move
    clip) when the play head reaches that frame, so all assets within
    that frame are available because in order to even 'play' frame 4,
    flash has had to load the entire movie clip contents.

  • USB Port for iPod Not Found

    The problem seems to be that the USB port is not being recognized by the software. I tried using Anapod and when I launched the program it could not find the iPod device even though it was connected in the USP port on my laptop.
    BTW - I tried all four USB ports and the results were the same
    Any ideas how to fix this?

    I'm having the exact same problem. I've reinstalled all the iTunes software several times. I have an iPod mini and an iPod nano that will not show themselves in iTunes. However, if I take them to my laptop, they connect perfectly with iTunes. Is there some way to rid myself of the usb drivers for iPod so I can get it to try to recognize the iPods?

  • "Class" for Exporting for ActionScript not accessible

    I am trying to export some audio files with Sound Properties > Export for ActionScript. However, for some reason the "Class" box is greyed out and unaccessible. I've tried out a number of different files: .mp3, .wav,  .aif, but Class is still greyed out.
    What is the problem? Is there some sort of workaround?

    I just found out that the reason the reason why it was not editable is because the document has been set up for Actionscript 1.0 and 2.0, not 3.0. I tried to follow this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5Ai4-j0bUc on how to export sound to actionscript.
    I've been trying to find the Actionscript 1.0/2.0 version of that workflow to set up a sound, volume, play, frame range, play increment, etc. Is it essentially the same coding?
    import flash.media.SoundTransform
    import flash.media.SoundMixer
    SoundMixer.stopAll()
    // The section below imports the sound you just "Exported for Actionscript"
    // Replace "sound" with the "Class" name you put in the ActionScript tab for the audio clip
    // ** If there is more than one sound, then copy & paste the line below and rename the "sound1" and "sound" to each new audio.
    // ** Do the same process with the ".play" line at the bottom of the program
    var sound1 = new sound();
    // Section below controls the audio volume. Range is between 0-1.
    // Example:  .5 >>>> 50% volume
    var myvolume:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform(.5);
    // Below controls the
    // (<starting frame within audio track>, <frame increment or how fast the track plays>,<Connects to Volume - ignore it>)
    sound1.play(0, 1, myvolume);

  • If you export for iPod, will it keep the chapter markers?

    I downloaded a few movies from iTunes and I notice they have chapters to it. I I export a movie from FCP for iPod will it keep my chapters that Ive set in FCP?

    It will, although I've found it to only work if I export directly from FCP via Compressor. If I export a reference movie and import that into Compressor, it won't retain the chapter markers.

  • Quicktime exported "Video format not supported by the iPod".  Why?

    Any help appreciated.
    -I just downloaded new version of quick time 7.6.4, alongside iTunes 9.00, paid for Quick time Pro, entered the key code successfully and the Pro-only options of Quick Time become available.
    -I exported my quicktime video files "movie to iPod". (File type m4v).
    -Added file to iTunes library.
    -When I sync my ipod (160GB "classic"), i get an error saying the "video format is not supported by the iPod". (I can watch downloads from the Itunes store without a problem.) It happens several times.
    Any suggestions?

    MagnusX,
    I feel your angst on the Apple Rep poor communication skills, we've been there too, so as end users, we try to help other like yourself who comes up against a brick wall.
    Your iPod classic firmware 2.0.4 support the following video format
    H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    Most likely the resolution or bitrate doesn't fall into the supported Video spec.
    If you are using a Mac, I suggest you download a free video converter, called handbrake
    You can also Google for other version of the video convertor if you are using Windows.

  • IPhone doesn't play Quicktime Web-Export for iPhone (not cell!)

    Hello guys,
    I play around with the html5 video tag and the possibilities to get implemented videos working on the iPhone. I exported the video via the standard function in Quicktime (Encoding Video for Wi-Fi, 3G, and EDGE) which is installed on 10.6.
    I implemented the exported reference-mov file in my page but on the iPhone only the cell version is viewable - when WIFI is switched off. If WIFI is switched on the iPhone shows the poster image with the crossed play button in the front but the regarding video (not the cell version) can't be started
    The desktop (computer) version of the same video is displayed on Safari on the MacBook via the reference file.
    Is there someone who knows something about this behavior?
    Kind regards
    André

    This is all to do with MIME types.
    iPhones play .m4v files (as exported from quicktime) but will only accept then if delivered as "video/mp4" not "video/m4v".
    The easiest way to do this to edit you .htaccess file by adding the line:
    ===========================
    AddType video/mp4 mp4 mp4v mpg4 m4v
    ===========================
    Apache Servers should now add that MIME type to their internal list.
    Note: You should still upload the .m4v file (not rename to .mp4 as some have done) - it will now play over wifi.
    Hope this helps and thanks to kingkong36 for the original solution.
    If you are unsure how to edit your .htaccess file then then is lots of documentation online - just search '.htaccess' but a quick method is to make a .txt file containing the above line, upload that to the root file of your site and then rename it '.htaccess' from htaccess.txt - removing the '.txt' first.
    Be careful though that you are not overwriting another file - make sure you ftp software is set to 'Show hidden files' or similar, then edit that one if there is one as files beggining 'dot' are hidden by default.
    Cheers, Tim.
