Quicktime Export Issues (White Screen + No Sound)

Hi,
I've been a mac user since 2001 and for that entire time I have had the following issue.
Any supported movie that I've wanted to export (now 'share' in QTX) to another format or convert to iPhone/iPod/Apple TV in iTunes has ALWAYS produced a movie that has a white screen but full sound. This is over a period as long as I can remember and various iterations of OS X, Quicktime and iTunes.
Can someone please tell me if this system-wide functionality is actually meant to work or is just there to take up menu space? Please, it's driving me insane!
P.S. I just clean installed both my systems to 10.6.1 and the issue is still there.
Rowan

Do a "test" on your QuickTime Pro exports (or use QuickTime X just for fun) on any HD video found at the http://apple.com/trailers Site.
Most YouTube files are .flv formats. Do you have http://perian.org installed to assist the export?
I won't even comment on "ripped" DVD's.

  • Video that once worked now is white screens w/sound

i have played the videos from my digital camera before and they worked fine. Since itunes upgraded quick time, they are not working. Even pulling up the same videos i watched just a few weeks ago, the files no longer work. I get white screens with yellow/blue dots and sound. I'm very frustrated that i can no longer see my daughter.
I just uninstalled and reinstall latest version in case a fic. still not working. Help!

I also have developed the same problem. i tried purchasing quicktime pro, then tried re-installing but to no avail. i noticed that if i go into the av settings and slightly move the brightness curser from center, i would get a picture, but it was juddering. I then went into quicktime preferences, advanced, and switched video to safe mode(gdi). I then could watch all video files, but at a much lower quality. I have even tried updating to the latest version of DirectX, but still no good. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.........

  • No video just white screen w/ Sound

    Hi,
I'm having a problem playing 1 .mov file within quicktime or any other video player for that matter. It's 4G in size and is HD 1080i60. I get sound but no video (just a white screen). I upgraded to Quicktime pro 7 but it didn't help. Does anyone know of a fix for this.
    Any help os greatly appreciated
    Thanks!

I'm still running FCP 4. I guess it's time for me to upgrade.Good. HERE is a link to the HD v4.5 download. Believe you will require your FCP v4 serial for the form. I downloaded the update when it first came out via the auto client software 3-4 years ago but never used it as I didn't have a "true" HD file source and began using FCE at about the same time. In any case, as Kirk indicated, you will likely be disappointed with some of the upgrade features -- especially those that are CPU dependent. On the other hand, having the additional components installed may allow you to perform HD to SD conversions in QT Pro if that is all you need here -- just takes a bit longer.

  • Macbook Pro Boot Issue, White Screen with Apple

Having a similar issue with my macbook pro. When I press the power button, a white screen appears with an apple icon in the middle and a small cirle on the bottom that is like a timer. I thought that the computer might be downloading something, but I left it on for hours and the computer didn't get out of that mode. I have tried several things such as the installation cd, first aid repair, but both said repairs weren't needed and that the drives were fine. Any suggestions on why the computer is doing this? It's been several days and I shut if off, leave it off for an entire day and when I turn it on, the same screen with the apple appears and nothing else.
    Any ideas are appreciated!
    Thank you!

    Hi Claudiat :
You could try a SMU reset, which may solve your problem,
    from Apple:
    MacBook, MacBook Pro
If the computer is on, turn it off.
Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
Press the Power button to restart the computer.

  • QT used to play .avi - now only white screen with sound

My Quicktime Pro 7 used to play the avi files no problem.
Overnight, it plays only audio with white screen (on the exact same files).
According to QT info, the files in question use WMV Image Codec.
Why the change? How can I get my movies back?

Did you repair permissions & restart after the installation? If so, then check QT MIME Settings to make sure nothing has changed there.
See if VLC Media Player works in playing the .avi files.

  • Movie has just a white screen with sound, how do i get full video

I have a movie on my computer (not purchased) that I want on my iPod Touch and I put it into iTunes. I had to convert it to iTouch, and that had troubles at first, but then it started to convert, when it did, I got sound and just a white screen in both iTunes and on my iPod. The entire movie plays perfectly on iTunes..... what's going on? It's James Bond, so you can understand how much I want this on my iPod....

Try this. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

Having the same problem, but when I import my QT into Final Cut I can see them... I don't know how to fix the QT error, but until someone gives you an answer, you should be able just to import into IMovie and preview from there.

  • Pre 9 playback issues (white screen)

I just got tabbed with doing the company slideshow for the Christmas party, and I did some research and saw the PRE 9 is supposed to be the best for doing this type of thing. I'm giving it a test run this morning, and I can import pictures, organize them into the timeline, but there's only a white screen in the preview. I rendered everything, and went to "full screen" to see if that would work, still no dice. I hope this is a quick fix that I am just being a bonehed with - HELP?!?

Hello, kirby555. Premiere Elements has its own forum, which is here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements
and you'll usually get better help there, since not many of us use PRE. Good luck!

  • Quicktime Export Issue

On my MacPro have a sequence shot in 720p60 with an HVX200 and when I try to "Export using Quicktime Conversion" and converting to H.264 at 50% (ie. 640x360) the resulting quicktime file is 960x720? I can startup my MacPro in target firewire mode and use my G4 powerbook to perform the same operation using the same files and it works properly. Is this an issue with the Intel version of Final Cut. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

just created a 720p60 sequence, exported it using qt conversion to h.264 at 640x360 and the resulting movie is ........ perfect. (or at least, an h.264 movie at 640x360)
I tested this with FCP5.1.2 running on an intel MBP

  • Quicktime Codec Issue--Black Screen

I am having trouble viewing a movie I made about two years ago. The sound is okay, but when I attempt to open the film in Quicktime (it is in a quicktime file) or in Final Cut, the screen is always black. Since I last viewed the movie, I have updated my system, quicktime and Final Cut a number of times.
When I try to open the movie using the old Final Cut elements, I get the following message: "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding card." I saw a post about a similar problem that suggested going into system preferences and enabling quicktime legacy decoders. I have done so, but it did no good. I have also upgraded the DivX codec, because one thing I read suggested that might help.
I would appreciate any other suggestion about other codecs I might need or anything else that might help. Is there a way to check to see which codec I need, if that is indeed the problem. If it makes a difference, the movie is in HD.
    Thank you.

Select the file in the Finder, then do "Get Info" and look at the "More Info" part of the pane. It has a section for codecs and should tell you. Otherwise, open it with the QuickTime Player app and use "Show Movie Inspector" from the Windows menu to get the codec info.

  • From standby to white screen no sound

This has been happening for a while now, but not every time. On occasion when I wake my TV from standby, I get the full menu, select some new content that I purchased and the screen goes completely white and there is no sound. I unplug the TV and replug it back in to the power, it goes thru the normal boot up, I get the full menu again and it works fine. This seems to happen on newly synched new content.
    Any thoughts?
    Many thanks,
    CD3

That makes sense now, unfortunately the only solution that I can be certain of is to restart the tv. I'm not sure why this is happening to some and not to others, I suspect the files are not completely downloading/syncing or at least that one device or other isn't signing off properly after the transfer, this could indicate something on the network but what I'm not sure.

  • Quicktime 7.2 white screen on AVIs

For some reaosn the end of my last message got chopped off. Here is the rest
The format report in Quicktime says "'

"what files do I have to remove to make the downgrade stick? "
Do an archive and install of your OS from the OS disc. Stop at the QT upgrade you need.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270 Scroll down to "Archive and Install”

  • HDV crashes/comes up as white screen with only sound when exported.

Hi I have been searching all throughout the forums for an answer to my problem but seem to find no clear solution. I edit everything into an HDV1080i60 timeline in Final Cut Pro 5 and then I try to export, whenever I export with Quicktime Conversion, Final Cut Pro crashes midway through. When I export with Quicktime Movie at 1080i60, the file comes out but when played is a blank white screen with sound only.
Every export setting has failed EXCEPT Uncompressed 8 bit NTSC. The video does come out good but the file sizes are enormous because it is uncompressed.
Is there any solution to this problem, I don't understand why its happening now, about one month ago everything was working great. I have downgraded to quicktime 7.3.1 yet still no results.
Any help would be much appreciated.

something between then and now has thrown a large spanner in the works
the fact that Quicktime Player is not seeing the HDV codec and yet FCP is able to work in that codec is a clear indication of the issue
starting with the least extreme and easiest solutions:
Use Disk Utility app to repair permissions on your system disc, see if that helped
Create a new user account and see if it all works better in that new account
Boot from your OS install discs and use Disk Utility app to repair your system disc, see if that helped
Uninstall and then reinstall Final Cut Studio (repair permissions again after the reinstall)
... probably best solution though is a complete clean reinstall of both OS and applications
    hope it helps

  • .AVI file has white screen but does have sound...

I have an .AVI file someone sent me which by using QT Pro shows just a white screen but does have audio.
I have Perian installed and it didn't help with the white screen. I have opened it fine in VLC player, and a couple of other media players but my issue is that I want to import the AVI file into iMovie so I can make it into a DVD. However, if I import it into iMovie, it will be the same white screen with audio.
I have searched the web far and wide to find a solution and most are saying it could be only viewable in QT on a PC of all things.
Is there any components out there which will help me with this problem? Any other suggestions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    RB

But when I selected the problematic AVI file it too appeared with a white screen w/sound in MPEG Streamclip. So I realized it wouldn't help me either.
A white screen usually means the selected video codec is not compatible with the actual file. Normally, I would run a conflict test. Based on your previous posts regarding the compression formats in use and the video codec attempting to perform video playback, my first guess would be that the Perian component is trying to decode a DivX (possibly v5) file. I would probably either temporarily remove the Perian component and see if the AVI file plays or remove and then replace the DivX component (if the latest one is already installed) and see if this changes the component access order so DivX is called for video playback. If you have an older DivX component installed, there may be a conflict issue. (Remember to close QT while removing/replacing components so the list will be re-initialized before making a playback test.) If all else fails, try posting a sample file so we can see if the problem can be duplicated on other systems/configurations.
