Quicktime Exporting Black Movie

When trying to export, the movie file turns out black, with both export options (Quicktime & QT Conversion).
When I click on QT Conversion, the viewer goes blank, and the render bar appears. The video is completely rendered.
Anybody know whats going on?

Can anyone spot the error in what I'm doing? It's got to be something simple. I've created a time-lapse using these steps (I think) before, so I don't think there's a bug in the program anywhere. Any help appreciated.
Not exactly an error, but I do have a question. If you are sourcing JPEG images to an image sequence file which creates a QT Photo JPEG compression file which is already import/edit compatible with iMovie and currently plays in the QT 7 Player correctly without a "black screen" problem, why are you exporting the data to the AIC compression format instead of simply saving the Photo JPEG sequence file and importing it directly to iMovie?

  • How do I export a Movie to Quicktime? And do I need to?

Hello, how do I export a Movie in iMovie 11 to Quicktime, when the option is not listed?
I have created some short videos with Lavelier Line6 mic, which apparently records your voice in stereo on one track, I am told (although I can't see stereo tracks anywhere within iMovie project, it looks like one track below the picture - but then I wouldn't know what to look for as I'm new to this!).
I need to, I am told, export the final movie to Quicktime, in order to create a mono track rather than stereo.  I can't see how to do this, as Quicktime is not an option in my Share menu (facebook etc is there, but not Quicktime).
Could someone advise me whether I need to do this at all?  Is a movie soundtrack automatically converted to mono if there is only one track?
(Also, there is a small amount of hiss in the recording, which I have removed with background noise reduction, but could that hiss come from the unused track, does anyone know?  And if so, what is the best way to get rid of that track?  Of course, it may not be that at all!   I don't really want to get into complicated removal of audio tracks into other software and then readding to the picture, if I can avoid it.)
Thanks for any advice you can give.  Fran x

    Use "Share to File".

  • Quicktime Export - Keynote, Streaming, and Movie Controller Settings

A few questions regarding qt export from keynote -
Is there a way to save quicktime export settings in keynote? Right now I'm exporting multiple files to custom sizes, and have to manually enter the size every time.
I'm exporting for streaming as well, and have to select it in the qt settings window every time.
also, is there a way to choose to show the movie controller when exporting a movie? Now I have to open the movie after export in qt pro and choose window>movie properties>presenation>movie controller type>movie controller (it defaults to none when exporting from keynote).
also, oddly enough, is seems that saving the movie after choosing to show the movie controller removes the streaming setting (movies wait to load completely before playing).
    Thanks!

No answer to the main question...but the final question--
When you edit a QuickTime movie, even if the edit is merely to change the settings on the controller, it breaks fast-start. You should be able to fix it by doing a "Save As..." instead of saving the movie in place. But that doesn't seem to work in all versions of QuickTime; I have noticed that certain versions of QT-7 seem to break fast-start altogether.
There is an app out there called "Lillipot" that will fix this for you. Drag your movie to Lillipot, it does whatever magical conversion is necessary to make fast-start work again.

  • QuickTime Pro 7.1 hangs when trying to export a movie.

    Hi There,
I just installed the Key for QuickTime Pro on my Win XP laptop. Now, whenever I try to export a movie, QT just hangs there, using 99% of the CPU. The buttons in the dialog box seems to be active (change appearance when I hover them) but clicling any of them (including OK or Cancel) does nothing. The only way out is to kill the QT task.
If I just click OK in the first export dialog, CPU usage jumps to 99% and hangs. If I select "Options" in the export dialog, the "options" dialog itself hangs and the CPU usage jumps to 99%.
I did not try all menu options but it looks like the hang and use 99% CPU is pretty general since I was attempting to do an "Update Existing Software..." From the help menu and QT hang there too. But I can open de preferences, set them and close them without problems though.
Looking in the Application even manager, this is the error reported:
"Hanging application QuickTimePlayer.exe, version 7.1.0.210, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000."
Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?
I purchased QT Pro today because I need to convert a sequence of files into a movie. Right now I cannot do that.

Why not try updating your QuickTime software?
    Most current version is 7.4.1

  • Exporting image sequence in ProRes 4444 gives black movie

In QT Pro, I'm exporting a movie made from an image sequence.  If I export using ProRes 4444, all I get is a black movie file.  If I export using other codecs, it works fine.  Any ideas what might be wrong and how to fix this?
    Thanks!

Sorry, but you've posted this in the Audition (Audio) forum.  I suggest you repost in the appropriate forum.  Good liuck!

  • Applescript Quicktime export movie to image sequence

I am having troubles with Quicktime 7.1 and Tiger using Applescript.
Ultimately I want to export a movie as image sequence as tiff at a certain fps.
I've downloaded the Applescript/Quicktime script collection. When I try to run the "Export to DV Stream.scpt" script, it gives me "an unknown error occurred"
Looking at the event log, the problem with their file is on the line
"export movie 1 to new_file as DV stream using settings preset "NTSC 44.1 kHz"
If I truncate the options at the end to say "export movie 1 to new_file as DV stream"
it works fine, but then I can't select presets.
I don't want to export as DV, rather as image sequence, I thought I could just modify script to read
    export movie 1 to new_file as image sequence using settings {Format:"TIFF", fps:15}
It compiles fine, but saves images as .png at 30 fps,
I've studied the dictionary, but didn't get anywhere.
    Thanks in advance

Something definitely got hosed in QT 7.1's scriptable interface. A script I had running perfectly in 7 broke on 7.1. I basically just shuffled objects and commands around like you did until I it finally worked. :/ If you have a copy of the last version handy (perhaps on one of your other macs) then I suggest loading and using that for now.
Edit: Oh yeah, and you can't specify settings the way you have it as a record ({Format:"TIFF", fps:15}) even though that compiles, the dictionary states that the 'using settings' parameter is a file containing settings. You would create such a settings file using another script with the 'save export settings' command (note this only saves the most recently successfully manually-attempted export settings)

How do I stop Quicktime player from auto-launching after I've exported a movie from iMovie 10?
It's really annoying for Quicktime player to auto-lauch!

It may not be that simple David. They're using a "server" and some of the Apache software may want to launch QuickTime at boot.
This isn't really a QuickTime question. It's a sever question best answered in those Discussion pages.

I assume all is rendered at 100% and you Mixed Down (in the Sequence Menu).
It sounds like it may be one of those quirky things like a key stroke character used in the file name that OSX doesn't like.

  • How can I export a movie with audio that I have edited in logic 9 to a quicktime movie

I imported a quicktime movie into logic and added audio and effects but when i export it the original audio from the quicktime movie is still there even though it doesn't sound in logic!

    Hi
One of teh final steps in the Export to Movie process is a dialog box where one can select which of the audio tracks embedded within the movie are included.
You must actively de-select those tracks that you do NOT want to include in the Export.

  • Exported presentation to quicktime and embedded movies won't play

    Hello:
i have exported a keynote presentation as both hyperlinks only and interactive to quicktime pro, and the embedded movies will not play. if i reduce the screen size (from full screen, to half or so) then i can right click on the movie and select play (i could not do that in full screen). Even then, once the movie plays, i cannot replay it, even if i right click and hit play again.
is there some trick to making movies play in the exported QT file?? i was trying to export my full presentation earlier and the keynote app quick and said there was not enough disk space ( i think it is b/c i had too many other app's running at once) <---however am i doing something wrong there too??
i have a presentation due on monday and cannot figure this out!! thank you so much in advance!

what format are the movies you placed on your slides? This makes a big difference in if they get included in the exported QT movie.

  • Quicktime pro, is there a way to export multiple movies as a batch?

Quicktime pro, is there a way to export multiple movies as a batch? Every time I export more than one at a time they try to export at the simultaineously and their progression slows tremendously. Is there a way to automate the export process so they go 1 by 1? I am embedding watermarks in .mov files of different sizes so while thier export settings are identical there is some discrepency in the format/size of the movies and the placement and size of the watermark "track".

Unfortunatley no.  You must export the forms one at a time.

  • Quicktime Export causing Out of Sync Audio?

I'm trying to export a self contained Quicktime movie from my timeline, and every time I try, the audio ends up being out of sync. What am I doing wrong?
The audio is set to just the defaults, 16 bit, 48khz.
    Sequence settings: HDV1080p30
When I bring the final exported movie back into FCP, it plays out of sync.
Exporting through the Share feature to bluRay resulted in perfect sync audio, so I'm at a loss as to why this isn't working.
    Please help!

Allright, since nobody out there seems to have the answer - I'm going to share what I discovered so that the next person will actually get an answer without having to spend hours and hours finding it in other forums. Here goes:
Problem: Audio plays in sync on the timeline, an export from the timeline through Share to bluRay results in correctly synced audio; but a Quicktime Export with current settings results in a final movie where audio is out of sync with the video.
Solutions: I found two solutions to this problem:
1- When exporting to Quicktime Movie, check "recompress all frames". This solution had mixed reviews, with lots of people saying you should never do this, as it will reduce the quality of your final output; while others said the reduction in quality was not noticeable to the naked eye. I guess you can try it and be the judge.
2- In your sequence settings, change the compression setting to Apple Pro Res. This is the setting I decided to go with, as I'm currently awaiting the 10 hour render.
I did do a quick and dirty test on the ProRes option, where it appeared to work. Since the audio is correctly synced in the beginning of the video and then slowly falls out of sync (obviously the 30p to 29.97 problem), I had to run a test using my entire sequence. If you run a test on a 2 minute sequence, it will appear to be correct, because it is a slow falling out of sync issue - the problems occur later in your project (just fyi). Here is what I did (in case you want to try it on your project):
I created a new sequence and then changed the compression setting from HDV1080-30p to Apple Pro Res 422. I dragged my sequences into this sequence (so they were nested). I unlinked the audio and then selected about a 20 second area from about 3/4 of the way through the project. I sliced this section and then removed all the video before and after (so it would speed up render time and only render black, but I would still be able to see if the audio synced up later - I hope that makes sense - this made my export time only 12 minutes). After it exported, I reimported the movie, found the little 20 second area, and it was correctly synced. So, now I am exporting the whole thing. I sincerely hope this works. I don't have lots of 10 hour blocks just lyin' around!
Since my audio issue was most likely due to the fact that I captured and edited in 1080 30p, I believe it must be a bug in FCP that exports the Quicktime movie in 29.97 regardless of whatever your sequence settings are (believe me, I tried to change it to 1080-30p and it didn't work). That is why I think the Apple Pro Res option works, but it involves a total re-render of your project. This is also why I believe it plays fine in the timeline, because my timeline was set to 30p. Again, I also believe that is why my export to BluRay through Share resulted in correctly synced audio - the bluRay export I believe uses the Pro Res codec (which, by the way, took 19 hours).
Wish Apple would fix this bug.

  • Exporting Text Movie

I've created a continuously scrolling text track in Quicktime which is to be played as an (1440x1080 / 1280x720) movie by itself, not imposed on a video track.
I have too much text to work with easily in programs like LiveType. I've got pretty much everything working in the Quicktime player itself, except that despite playing around with the positioning {textbox...}, I can't stop the text meeting the very edges of the window.
I tried to export the .mov file to FCP so that I could deal with positioning, but it's an incompatible file because it's still basically a text track. I'm also unable to export to DVD Studio Pro. I can import it into iMovie, but again the text goes right to the edges of the screen.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Add an all black image file sized 1280X720 (scaled) to the entire text track movie.
Adjust the text track dimensions or scale it in the Movie Properties window to move it from the edge of the image track.

  • Exporting Reference Movies with Lion and QT X

Has anybody else had issues exporting Reference Movies from FCP7 under Lion?
When we open a Reference Movie created with FCP7/Lion in QT X 10.1 (the version that ships with Lion), we're only able to see the first frame of the movie, followed by black/blank video, and audio only.
Curiously, QT7 (on Lion) and QT X 10.0 (on Snow Leopard) are able to play these movies without a problem.  However, a number of 3rd-party applications and devices that we use in our facility (most notably an Omneon Spectrum) choke on the reference movies in a similar manner to QT X 10.1.
We've got a support ticket open with Omneon, although they claim to have never heard of the problem, and are currently picking their way through the issue as well.  However, there are scattered reports of others who are having similar problems.
For the sake of thoroughness, it's worth mentioning that this is a brand-new Mac Pro with Lion 10.7.2, and FCP 7.0.0; both fresh installs (apparently downgrading to SL is unsupported on this machine).  We tried patching FCP to 7.0.3 with Pro Application Update 2010-02, which did not resolve the problem.  We've since reverted to 7.0.0, to rule out the patch as the culprit. The reference movies in question do not contain any edits that would require a render, and everything's stored on a NAS that's accessible to the whole office (hence the fact that we're able to view the files on our Snow Leopard machines.
Picking apart the reference movie using Apple's Atom Inspector shows one curious detail in the alias data inside 'dref' atom inside of the reference movie (which is how QT figures out where the original media is).  Rather than being a simple file pointer, the alias actually contains a whole bunch of information, including the "relative" path to the video data, relative to the original location of the reference movie, as well as the absolute path of that file, starting from the root of the filesystem.  Both of these paths are presented in "Mac" and "Unix" formats, ie:
    Mac:   volume:folder1:folder2:filename
    Unix: /volume/folder1/folder2/filename
Key difference is the use of colons, rather than slashes to separate folders in the path.  At least, that was the key difference prior to Lion.  We've noticed that, while the SL machines export reference movies with paths that resemble the above, our Lion machine generates:
    Mac:   volume:folder1: folder2: filename
    Unix: /volume/folder1/folder2/filename
    (Notice the spaces)
When we attempt to play the movies with our Omneon applications or in QT X 10.1, our NAS throws a whole bunch of 'File not Found' errors.  Presumably, those spaces are the culprit.  Removing the spaces with a hex editor completely mangles the QT movie, and renders it compltetely unplayable.
Unfortunately, the alias data inside the dref atom doesn't appear to be a standard Mac OS alias, and the only documentation of the alias file format (linked above) is hilariously out of date.  Presently, the format is undocumented, and it appears that developers are discouraged from interacting with the files directly.  In other words, I have no way of knowing whether or not the spaces are actually significant, or are a completely innocuous and documented part of the file format.
Has anybody encountered anything similar, or found a solution?  I'm at a bit of a dead-end here, and would welcome any advice.

I totally understand where you're coming from; Apple's support of some of QuickTime's more advanced features has unfortunately been waning for some time now.
Avoiding the buggy parts of the program is always a good strategy, although the ability to quickly export reference movies is something that is absolutely vital to our workflow.  Simply put, losing these files is an absolute dealbreaker.
Two things seem to be going on... FCP on Lion appears to be generating slightly malformed reference movies, and QT X 10.2 seems to be freaking out when it tries to play back those movies (while prior versions are seemingly able to work around the problem).  I suppose this could have something to do with the introduction/evolution of QTKit and AV Foundation on Lion, although I'm surprised that this would be affecting FCP7, which was built around older APIs.
