Quicktime fails to install...

Im trying to upgrade to the new iTunes, but whenever I try, I get an error message saying that "the older version of Quicktime cannot be uninstalled, please contact your local technical group".
When I try to install JUST quicktime I get an error message claiming "The Feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click 'ok' to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'QuickTime.msi' in the box below"
I then get a browse option to find this file. I have done an extensive search to track down and attempt to delete every file associated with QuickTime, and have deleted every file that I have been permitted to. I have also uninstalled the older version of iTunes, restarted my computer, and attempted to uninstall QuickTime through forced uninstalls via windows uninstaller programs. Yet the problem still persists.... HELP!! I cant use my new shuffle not to mention my Video iPod without a version of iTunes installed!! Im pretty sure Im not the only one who has had this problem... to anyone who has overcome this inconvenience please could they shed some light on this issue? Thanks...

This is a not-uncommon Windows error. The usual reason for this error is that the old msi (Microsoft Installation file) is corrupt for whatever reason. This may fix it:
Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
and run that on your computer.
The corrupt QuickTime version should show up as either QuickTime.msi or as a corrupt icon .msi (it'll probably be the top-most option). Click on it to select it, then click Remove and Exit. You may need to reboot your computer now.
Then install the new version of iTunes and QuickTime and with luck it will install.
Hope this helps.
(Warning: Leave all other .msi files as they are or else you'll have problems uninstalling other programs! )

When installing the new version of itunes i get the error message "installation of quicktime did not complete successfully itunes requires quicktime" but when i go to get the new version of quicktime on its own it works to update have had this problem since my hard drive was starting to fail so i put a new hard drive in and it still does not work.

iTunes installer is tellign me that it can't reference HKEYLOCALMACHINE32/software/Classes/.m4p
Okay, due to registry mirroring, that registry key is stored in the WOW6432 node in your registry. So when you look for it in regedit (if you're using the 64-bit regedit, which you get by default if running regedit on a 64-bit system, you'll find that key at:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\Classes\.m4p
Check the permissions on the key. Do your user account, the Administrators group and the SYSTEM account have full control on it?

  • Quicktime fails to install when updated or downloaded fresh

My computer says I am running Quicktime 7.3. However, it doesn't work at all, and just shuts down as soon as I open it up. I can't watch any of the videos I have bought in iTunes because of this.
So to correct the problem, I tried to update it from the 'software update' but it repeatedly fails on installation and asks me to try again. No luck.
So I downloaded a fresh version of 7.3 from the Apple site and the same problem. I have downloaded over and over again, and the downloads are always successful but *every time* installation fails at 21%.
I have updated the system software, updated to the new iTunes, and repaired permissions. I tried downloading Quicktime 7.2 in case it was a problem with the 7.3 download. It also failed at 21%.
Does anyone know if I will have to completely remove Quicktime in order to do a fresh install? If so, how do I do this?
I would be so grateful for any help.

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
"Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi' in the box below."
Then when I click Cancel it says "An installation package for the product 'Apple Software Update' cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi' "
    that's absolutely perfect, thank you.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does it go through properly this time?

  • Can't install iTunes due to Quicktime failing to install

I'm on Vista (sad face) and over the past couple months iTunes has worked on and off...working and then I get an error saying "iTunes has stopped working" and then I have to mess with everything uninstalling/installing to get it working again.
However last week, when it happened I uninstalled iTunes and then attempted to uninstall Quicktime but it would not remove Quicktime off the list even after restarts. Then I ran the newest iTunes + Quicktime installer and it just goes until it gives me and error saying "The installer encountered errors before the requested operation for Quicktime could be compleated" and takes me to the complete box saying try again later. So the problem is with Quicktime because it won't uninstall/install and thus I can not install iTunes.
I have tried using the stand-alone Quicktime installer and have gotten the same error. I have also tried Apple Software Updater and no dice. I am getting very frustrated nothing seems to work and I need to update my iPod! Please help!
    Thanks!

+I finally got QuickTime uninstalled (it wouldn't give me errors uninstalling, it just wouldn't uninstall) via Windows CleanUp Utility.+
After you used CleanUp, did you manually remove any leftover QuickTime program files?
If not, let's run through a CleanUp routine again.
Run CleanUp and remove the QuickTime entry.
    1. On the Start menu, click Computer.
    2. In Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
Go into "Uninstall a program" in your Control Panel (assuming here that you don't have Classic View selected) and select itunes. click "Repair" up at the top of the control panel screen.
If the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. Does it launch properly now?

  • Itunes 7 fails to install - QuickTime problem.

I successfully used an earlier Itunes with an Ipod 1GB Nano. My new 2GB Nano (courtesy of Netgear promotion!) demanded V7 which I downloaded and tried to install. There were many errors installing Quicktime, but one was
    "Could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINES\software\classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuicktimePlayerApp\CLSID"
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
I accessed myself (8-)# I tried running regedit, but that key and all the other "QuickTime" "software/classes/" keys gave the same error. I tried right clicking to set permissions, but although the list comes up, I cannot enable any of them.
I even tried safe mode, but all those entries are give similar errors. I have now deleted all references to "QuickTime" in the registry except the inaccessible ones, and the "Program Files" directory, but installation gives the same errors.
The result is that Itunes will not install, and I am unable to use my new Ipod.
A Google search finds no-one with similar problems.
    Any ideas?

I am answering this blind as I did not realise I would not have access to the previous posting! Thanks for responding.
There is no version number of the installer under properties, but it says "V7" when run, and was downloaded earlier today (38,808,256 bytes) from the Apple site (as linked to by my then presumably working Itunes).
I see exactly my problem is in http://forums.vnunet.com/thread.jspa?threadID=93546&tstart=0
    and unresolved.
I rolled back Windows to yesterday (and then the day before), and now find I cannot even uninstall either Quicktime or Itunes. The "Add or Remove programs" utility starts its progress bar and then quits with no report. I tried a re-install of the only previous installation of Itunes and it reported "You have a later version of Itunes installed" (meaning presumably V7) The Itunes I have on disk will not run "Files missing". This I suppose must be due to the failed installation of V7, which System Restore has failed to undo.
I tried then the V7 install again, and got:
"QuickTime failed to install Error #-2903"
    and later
    "Error 1905 c:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTOControl.dll
    Hresult -2147220472"
... and then followed by three or four registry errors in HKEYLOCALMACHINES\SOFTWARE\Classes\ including the one I started this thread with. All these registry items are inaccesible under regedit ("Error opening key").
I am now in a position that I cannot go back or forward and still cannot link my IPOD to Itunes.
Is Itunes the only program that can transfer music?
It seems that one cannot simply copy, as firstly there is no "music" folder, and when it is done in a kosher way, the filenames are changed to an internal format, with the real names in a database.
It looks like Apple are managing to stop loads of other people using their new IPODs. I would ask for my money back if it wasn't a gift from Netgear (8-)#

I installed itunes and quick time  but when I try to open itunes I get a message that reads "quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096).  I have removed both itunes and quicktime from my computer and re-installed them and I still get the same message.  What do I do to get itunes to work?

"The photoshop library operation failed because quicktime is not installed on this computer"

After Effects CC (12.x) does not import animation/video layers in PSD files. You should render and export your animation from Photoshop as a movie file and import that into After Effects.

  • Error Message 3 Quick Time failed to install

I have tried every way I know possible to download iTunes. I have loaded Quicktime stand alone, I have loaded iTunes to my hard drive and tried to start the install from there and not the internet. I have turned off all firewalls and virus/spyware software. I continue to get Error Message 3, Quick Time failed to install. I am very frustrated with this problem as well as the run around I'm getting from Apple. I can't even update my iPod. I thought my iPod purchase was going to be great. But after the short battery life issue and now the software issue. I am starting to re-think my purchase. Does anyone have a solution to the software problem that works??? Apple even tried to blame the problem on my computer. I see from all the people that have this problem in this forum it is not my computer. Please help if you can...Thanks, M

  • ITunes fails to install automatically on Win 7 64-bit computer

iTune always fails to install automatically, and advises me to select to only download the updates, and then to install them manually. Well, there are five files that download: 1) AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi, 2)iTunes64.msi, 3)QuickTime.msi, 4) QuickTimeInstallerAdmin.exe, and 5)SetupAdmin.exe.
There are no further instructions as to which to install or in what sequence. So, I selected the iTunes64.msi, and after several "...verify that you have access to that directory" dialogue boxes, it installed -- (I do have version 10 now). But my iTunes doesn't say whether it is the 64-bit or 32-bit version that has been installed. How can I determine if I have installed the 64- or 32- bit version? And what do I do with the other files that were downloaded? Help, please!
I would truly 'perciate any advise!

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Y do I get a quicktime failed to initialize error when i try to download itunes?

Why do I get an error message saying quicktime failed to initialize when downloading i-tunes?

Check this Apple document out -> Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Try following the steps in that article, which will have you remove iTunes and the other bundled Apple software. Then download and install iTunes.

  • When I try to open iTunes, I receive a QuickTime failed to initialize (error-2096).

When I try to open iTunes, I receive:  "QuickTime failed to initialize (error - 2096).  It also tells me to unistall iTunes and then install iTunes again.  If I uninstall iTunes, will I lose all my songs and videos?

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
    download iTunes again from Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You should be making backups of your content regularly, either through iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a external drive.

    ive tried reinstalling...
it was working a few days ago, then I hd to get rid of a few programs fast, so I went to the Program Files folder and deleted a few of them. All the apple software was deleted from this folder. But I didn't actually go the the control panel and all that.

    Hello Jkroll
You may want to try the uninstall below. Keep in mind to follow it in the order below if you want to reduce the amount of times you reboot. Also keep in mind not all programs in this list will be on your computer this is just a list of Apple programs that could be there if so uninstall them.
    1. Uninstall the following Apple Software in the following order to help reduce reboots
    -Apple Mobile Device Support
    -Apple Software Update
    -Bonjour
-Windows iPod Updater (Name might be different but look for anything with the word iPod)
    -MobileME Control Panel
    -Quicktime
    -iTunes
    *Now reboot the computer
*Now download and install Quicktime by itself the stand alone version. Then download and install iTunes.

  • Itunes failing to install

Hey. For the last week or so I have been trying to download the new itunes (9.0.3) and I have gotten as far as the setup wizard. Everything downloads fine in the beginning but when it asks you to install iTunes it fails to install. As soon as I click install the "preparing to install" dialogue box comes up then it would say "Invalid F: drive". I have tried different ways of downloading it (on website, itunes, apple software installer, etc.) the same thing happens and now the itunes program will not open at all. Instead a dialogue box comes up saying "The iTunes application could not be opened. A required component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall QuickTime (-42404)"

How do I change the drive letters?
Ackkk. My brain's fried as well ... it's actually pretty much the same set of instructions as for Vista, except that you start off by right-clicking *My Computer* and selecting "Manage". (I did up a Vista version of the instructions because people on Vista joined threads to say that they couldn't find "My Computer" on their PCs.
Also my Add/remove function disappeared 6 months ago.
Double-Ack ... okay, we can have a go at that (tomorrow) too.
