QuickTime fails to remove itself

The last two times I removed? QuickTime, all that happened was the uninstaller removed the "uninstall" entry. None of the QuickTime files were removed - I had to remove these manually. I also have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack Installed, but with no quicktime alternative and no real alternative.
It almost seems as if the uninstaller cannot find its "install database" file. There is no warning message, however it will terminate and remove only the uninstall list item.

Thanks for your suggestion, groovyds, but it didn't help. I can be a bit more specific now. It doesn't do it with the Mac ads (I am a Mac & I am a PC), but just with the tips & tutorial videos. The problem began on OS 10.5.4, but has continued on 10.5.5. If it is only doing it on Apple's site and only with the tips & tutorials videos, then that should suggest that something in those videos won't work with the combination of QuickTime + MacBook Pro 15", 2.4 GHZ + OS 10.5.4 & 10.5.5 (and who knows how far backwards in OS 10.5 versions or forwards in future versions for that matter). Again my thanks.

I installed itunes and quick time  but when I try to open itunes I get a message that reads "quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096).  I have removed both itunes and quicktime from my computer and re-installed them and I still get the same message.  What do I do to get itunes to work?

Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You should be making backups of your content regularly, either through iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a external drive.

    Hello Jkroll
You may want to try the uninstall below. Keep in mind to follow it in the order below if you want to reduce the amount of times you reboot. Also keep in mind not all programs in this list will be on your computer this is just a list of Apple programs that could be there if so uninstall them.
    1. Uninstall the following Apple Software in the following order to help reduce reboots
    -Apple Mobile Device Support
    -Apple Software Update
    -Bonjour
-Windows iPod Updater (Name might be different but look for anything with the word iPod)
    -MobileME Control Panel
    -Quicktime
    -iTunes
    *Now reboot the computer
*Now download and install Quicktime by itself the stand alone version. Then download and install iTunes.

  • ITunes/Quicktime problem "The older version of Quicktime cannot be removed"

Whenever I try installing iTunes 7, I get the message "The older version of Quicktime cannot be removed." A similar problem with the same wording similarly cropped when I downloaded iTunes 6.
Source of the problem is a failed System Restore which left files corrupted and such, I've tried using ccCleaner to remove iTunes and Quicktime from the registry but it simply isn't there, as is the case when I use regedit in Run.
Add/Remove Programs doesn't work as well, when I click on uninstall for iTunes/iPod/Quicktime there just isn't any response or window that pops up

okay, let's try the technique from the following post. (it includes instructions on what to do if Add/Remove isn't working for a program.)
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=3366434
(the link in there to the itunes 7.0.1.8 installer now leads to a 7.0.2.16 installer. no cause for concern, use the 7.0.2.16.)

  • Flash pushed via GPO, but is now removing itself!

All of a sudden we are having systems that Flash is removing itself and I can't figure out why!  Everything has been working just fine.  We push Flash down through Group Policy and it's been working without problems.  But all of a sudden we are seeing systems where Flash is removing itself for no apparent reason.
Nothing has changed.  No settings have changed.  People that have gotten it successfully via GPO and have had it working just fine are all of a sudden having it removed and left with nothing installed.  Does anyone have any idea as to why it would be doing this?
Here are the log files from one of the system in succession...maybe someone here can make heads or tails of it???
"Application Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player is an upgrade of application Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player and will cause the assignment of application Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin to be removed."
"The removal of the assignment of application Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player succeeded."

"The assignment of application Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player succeeded."
"Product: Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin -- Error 2753.The File 'FP_PL_MSI_INSTALLER.exe' is not marked for installation."
"The install of application Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player failed.  The error was : Fatal error during installation."
"The removal of the assignment of application Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player succeeded."
"Application Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player was configured to upgrade application Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player.  The assignment or  install of the upgrade application Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player failed with error : Fatal error during installation.   The upgrade will be aborted."
"The assignment of application Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin from policy GPO Install Flash Player succeeded."
These entries all happened pretty much at the same time.  Now granted, I'm no GPO guru.  I inherited this system and it was my predecessor that set this all up.  But I've checked all the settings and everything seems fine and like I said, nothing has changed.  As a matter of fact, I just setup a couple of new systems and it got pushed down to them just fine.
    Help!!!

Hello again, It sounds like it is working so far, I hope it stays that way. I wonder if the Anti-Virus had an update that day that that happened. It was so sudden, something triggered that action, may not know what. It was strange since that didn't happen when you Installed, if it was going to happen.
Let's hope there are no more problems.
    Thanks for posting back.

InDesign CC fails to remove the pages from the catalog that I have prepared!

This puts a very important issue!
We seek the solution in the short term.

Just done: the application crashes trying to export IDML!!!
This is not a good sign. Try moving the pages to another document using the Pages panel menu.
But you should also try copying all the items on one page and pasting them into another document.
Then when you've got a few pages in the new document, try moving or deleting them. Or try exporting as IDML.
Also, build a completely new sample document (doesn't have to be all the information) from scratch and try deleting/moving those pages.
This will help us see if it's just one document or all.

  • To make the quicktime control bar hide itself ? HTML

    Hi everybody,
i want to stream my quicktime H264 movies on my website. No problem so far. I do that easily.
However, is there a way (by adding a html code, or a plugin) to make the quicktime controller bar hide itself when it's not useful. I mean : i would like the controller to be visible only when the visitor has his mouse on it. The rest of the time (when playing for example), it the controller is hidden. I'm not talking about the controller "true" or "false" parameter of the html code, which allows only the controller to be completely hidden.
Is there anybody who knows how to do that (a plugin ? a html code ?) ?
Thank you everybody ! And excuse my poor english, i am french...
    heyheymymy

Can't be done if the file is to be played in the Web page window but you could call the QuickTime Player and use "Presentation" mode.

  • After iTunes 7.6 update:  QuickTime failed to initialize (error -2096

"QuickTime failed to initialize (error -2096).
QuickTime is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes."
After upgrading to iTunes 7.6 this morning, I get this error when trying to run iTunes or Quicktime. I was using the Apple Updater. I got no errors when running the installer.
I downloaded the 7.6 setup file and attempted to repair the install. I still receive the same error.
There is an article indicating that turning off Compatibility mode would resolve this issue, but Compatibility mode is not turned on for iTues or QuickTime.
The same issue is discussed in the Quicktime forum, here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6400305
I am running on Windows 2003.
Note I had iTunes open earlier today, and it was working fine. It was only when I upgraded to 7.6 (I think I was at 7.4 before. It was definetly 7.something).

Thanks for this discussion and I hope Apple fixes this soon. It took me forever but installing QT 7.2 and installing the less recent itunes update from filehippo finally resolved it for me. Of course the reason it took me forever was that every time I reinstalled itunes, I was using the default setting that was updating QT & Apple also (in hindsight it sounds really dumb, but no one had mentioned that).
This is the first itunes update that has ever gone wrong for me - I've used itunes for 5 yrs (my 1st ipod was a 2nd gen touch wheel). I wonder if some MS developers went to work at Apple to exact revenge...?

  • Error 1714. The older version of QuickTime cannot be removed. - Fix

I ran into this problem when I was installing the latest version of i-Tunes. Because i-Tunes requires QuickTime I researched for hours. I couldn't un-install QuickTime, it wasn't showing up in a software list to uninstall. I used Regedit to remove all of the "QuickTime" entries in the registry. Restarted my computer, still no luck.
One thing that I did I ran the Quickertime installer from a DOS prompt and added /le file.txt
This creates a log file with all the error during the installation.
This gave me the follow error in the file:
    === Logging started: 12/30/2006 17:29:18 ===
Error 1714. The older version of QuickTime cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group. System Error 1610.
    === Logging stopped: 12/30/2006 17:29:31 ===
Again this is what I to searched for the errors with on luck.
I ran the Quicktime installer again, this time I used the /l* file2.txt. This logs everything during the installation.
I searched this file for where the errors were and found this:
    RemoveExistingProducts: Application: {50D8FFDD-90CD-4859-841F-AA1961C7767A}, Command line: UPGRADINGPRODUCTCODE={F07B861C-72B9-40A4-8B1A-AAED4C06A7E8} REMOVE=ALL

Then in the registry removed the entry 50D8FFDD-90CD-4859-841F-AA1961C7767A in the HKLM\Software\Classes\Installer\Products directory.
!!!!Make a backup of your registry if you are unfamiliar with regedit.

Thank you so much for this solution! I spent hours trying to figure it out myself and by following your steps I got it working! My numbers were different but I was able to figure out which one I needed to delete. Thank you once again!

  • Application Manager Failed to Update Itself

When I booted up my Windows 7 system on Monday I was prompted to update Adobe CS6 applications. Application manager (which had been working fine since last year) failed to update itself. The Application Manager icon disappeared from my desktop and Application Manager no longer appears on the start menu. However, when I opened Photoshop CS6 and ran an update, Application Manager opened and successfully ran updates on four installed applications.
A phone support technician suggested finding and running the adobeapplicationmanager.exe executable already installed on my system. I did, but Application Manager failed again. I downloaded and ran Adobe Support Advisor. It reported "cpsid 82829s1 A restart is pending" and created support package 40-92950-074702072013. I have restarted the system with no effect.
How do I restore desktop access to Application Manager?

Ok then I would recommend reviewing your installation logs to determine the root cause of your installation difficulties.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log files at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.
