Quicktime file import failure in CS5 After Effects and PPro

Running a Dell PC with a fresh install of Win 7 Pro, Intel Quad Core 2 with 4GB.  Ram.When I try to import quicktime files into AE or PPro, I get a file import failure or corrupted file message.  I am using quicktime version 7.6.6.  I have tried uninstalling and removing all preferences, then reloading older versions of quicktime (7.2) rebboting the machine, and still no luck.  Any tips would be appreciated.  I have not been able to get any help from Adobe.  I have a laptop setup the same way and it works great.  I even tried loading the exact same versions of qt. and tried to use the Importerquiktime.prm file from that machine.

I appreciate the feedback.  I checked the processes upon AE start and found that the Adobe QT server32 starts then closes in the processes before AE actually loads up.  If it is supposed to remain open, it does not.  I can not find where to change its permissions.  I looked the site you sent a link to, but do not see that section.

  • CS5 After Effects and Premiere Pro

I am using CS5 After Effects and Premiere Pro with footage from a Canon 5D Mark III. Shooting/editing 1080p 24 (or at least their version of it). What are the best render settings/codecs to use to export from AE for import into Premiere Pro other than the animation codec or Pro Res? I dont have Pro Res and the animation codec is great but the file size slows down the app. Thx in advance.
Or a few resources to explain the whole codec/export/bitrate/etc issue once and for all for different situations wether it be brodcast or internet or simply burning a dvd to play on a HD TV. It is almost like this is some kind of secret no one will tell...LOL...i cant find a difinitive answer anywhere.

As is stated above there are Production codecs which can be lossless, nearly lossless, and at higher bit depth. Production Codecs include Uncompressed (huge files but fast do decode and will not playback in real time) Editing Codecs like Black Magic, Avid, ProRez, and others that are smaller, can still be lossless, may support alpha channels and higher bit depths, and Archival Codecs like Microcosm, JPEG2000, PNG, which support alpha channels, are lossless, and on some systems, will playback in real time.
Editing codecs are specifically designed to be played back in a NLE. These are good choices for a Premiere Pro / AE workflow. So are Archival Codecs. If your project involves a lot of sharing of files between users and apps, then pick a format common to everyone that is at the highest bit depth your storage system can accommodate.
There are also image sequence formats. These include PSD sequences, TGA, TIFF, PNG and others. Some support higher bit depth (32bit Float). Image Sequences work great, have advantages when it comes to correcting just a few frames here and there, and are used to a great extent in professional production pipelines. They are much more flexible than video but they have a distinct disadvantage when it comes to keeping track of the files and keeping things organized.
Then there are delivery codecs. These are designed for playback. They are not suitable for production because delivery codecs use GOP compression, are limited to low bit depth, and are not lossless. IOW, if you render to a delivery codec, then you process and render again to the same codec the artifacts start to build up. H.264 for example, after just 2 or 3 passes, even at very high quality settings, falls completely apart.
Consumer and ProSumer cameras use delivery codecs for image capture. Your Cannon 5D does. This is OK, and it's the only option you've got with some cameras, but the best workflow for these types of capture systems is to transcode the footage to a production codec before you do anything. Production codecs will render faster because it takes less time to decode the footage for processing. You should never render AVCHD or MPEG footage back to the same codec. Always use a production codec until you're project is ready to archive and deliver.
One note on ProRez on Windows. This is not a good idea for production. You cannot maintain proRez native 10bit color space. You should not render to ProRez using 3rd party workarounds because you're just building a proRez container for a windows compressed video. Sure, it will playback on a Mac, but the actual image will have lost important detail and color depth.
Let me give my humble opinion on Dynamic Link. This works great for a shot or two in a Premiere Sequence. This works great for working with Audio in Premiere and Audition. This works great for rendering for delivery or even production using the Adobe Media Encoder. Did you note my second sentence? Dynamic link between AE and Premiere Pro for a few shots in a sequence is a good idea and a time saver, but if you're cutting a film that's over a few minutes, each scene should be it's own sequence. If the scene has more than just a few shots that need to be processed in After Effects then using Dynamic Link can easily become a monster you don't want to deal with. The key to efficient post production of an effects laden production is planning. You've got to cut for story first, then produce your effects shots with sufficient handles (extra frames) to allow some fine tuning, then recut the final. Any other workflow on a long project is just wasting time.

  • File import failure in CS5.5

  • Importing Motion 2 into After Effects 7

Is it my imagination and/or lack of knowledge, or does AE7 not allow for the import of Motion 2 (with .motn or .mov as the extension)? I've tried it every way I can think of (based on the previous posts here about getting Motion 2 into AE6.5) and I can't get it to work.
Anyone else know for certain if this functionality is now broken?

I'm basing my question off of this info (as found at http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/motion/):
    "Integrated Workflow
You can now use Motion in conjunction with Adobe After Effects. All of the particle effects, Replicator designs and animations in Motion can be added to an After Effects “comp” without rendering. Making a change is as simple as selecting “Open in Editor” from the After Effects edit menu."
And clicking on the "Features" link at the top of that same page leads to:
"In fact, Motion gets along so splendidly with Adobe After Effects that you can drag and drop project files into the latter or launch Motion from within After Effects."
Clicking further on the "Adobe After Effects Integration" link at the bottom of the "Features" page leads to this quote:
"You can also work hand-in-hand with Adobe After Effects. Drag and drop your native Motion 2 project files into After Effects 6.5 without rendering. To make a change, simply launch Motion from within After Effects; the changes you make will automatically update in your After Effects composition. And those who normally use After Effects can now easily access the intuitive particle creation, elegant Replicator designs and drag-and-drop procedural animation found in Motion 2."
I'm looking to be able to use this functionality with Motion 2 and After Effects 7. I'd prefer to remove the step of exporting .mov files out of Motion projects when I could possibly just import or drag/drop a native Motion 2 file right into After Effects 7 without rendering, as Apple states became possible in version 2.
Right now, when I attempt to do so with AE7, I get an error message that reads:
"After Effects error: retrieving movie from file "File Name" -- no QuickTime movie found (-2048).
    ( 10 :: 21 )"
That's when I try using the .motn and .mov extension. I'm guessing that Apple will have to alter the way Motion files are read as Quicktime files in order to get After Effects to recognize them as version 6.5 did.
    Is this not correct?

  • "File Import Failure Unsupported format or damaged file" in CS6 but fine in CS5.5

    Hello All.
Recording in Pal DV AVI from Sony Z5U with MRC1K compact flash recorder.
Imported files to computer using the Sony utility, and also tried dragging and dropping.
Some files import to Premiere Pro CS6.03, but others give "File Import Failure: Unsupported format or damaged file,".
The files that do import show up as 4:3 and I have to modify /  interpret footage to get them to show as 16:9,
However, these same files play back just fine in Windows Media Player.
Intriguingly these files import just fine to Premiere Pro CS5.5, and also show up correctly as 16:9.
I can't figure out why some files import into CS6 and others don't....
Anyone else seen this kind of behavior?
(Normally I record in HDV and I've never had problems importing from MRC1K into Premiere, but the client specifically requested DV files for their ease of editing...)
    Cheers
    Mark
PS When I use the DV recoverer utility on these files they import just fine into CS6....

    Hi Jim,
OK, here's the video that imports OK into CS6.03 but that Premiere CS6.03 sees as 4:3:
And here's the one that won't import into CS6.03 but is happily opened by CS5.5 and correctly seen as 16:9:
Can you spot the difference? Thanks for having a look at this.
    Cheers
    Mark

  • How to import WMV file for use in adobe programs, especially After Effects and/or Premier?

How to import WMV file for use in adobe programs, especially After Effects and/or Premier?

I have the latest adobe creative cloud and i'm using Mac 10.8.2
My client gave me a wmv file that she wants some people blurred out in the background but when I go to import the media, it's greyed out. I'm assuming that After Effects will be the best solution for this, but maybe there is another way.
I can purchase a video converter and convert it to .mov but that costs extra money that I don't want to spend just to do this one project.

  • Is it possible to make is so that, immediately after I import a new clip into FCP, the file is automatically selected in the Event Library? (Similar to how After Effects and Premiere work).

Is it possible to make is so that, immediately after I import a new clip into FCPX, the file is automatically selected in the Event Library? (Similar to how After Effects and Premiere work). Right now, after I import a new file, I have to then go searching for it amid all the other files in my project. It would be extremely helpful if the file I just imported was already highlighted and selected after import, making it instantly "locatable" and ready to go.

in a perfect world, you do know the recording date, and you simply scroll to that date.
in a very perfect world, all your other imports are already tagged, so just have to create a smart list 'unrated' ...
(I know those messy Events… a friend of mine constantly ignores my advice to check the time/date on his camera; on every battery swap, the cam creates a very erratic timestamp ... his actual recordings are listed as made in "2004" or in "2020" .... )

  • Problem with importing premiere project into after effects

Hi. When I import premiere project into after effects CS4 the files I speed up 2x (for example) look likes on the snapshot below, and they are not in the correct places.
    what can I do?

Then don't speed them up... This is "as designed". AE and Premiere are not compatible in their tiem-remapping/ time-stretching, so tehre is no way to move between them without losing that info.

  • File Import Failure; File has unsupported compression type!

I completed editing my movie about two weeks ago did all the colour correction audio etc last week, and aim to complete the sutitling tomorrow!
But now the problem is that my some of my files are now offline and can't be relinked because I get an error message which says "File Import Failure; File has unsupported compression type"
These files are .MTS which I believe are AVCHD.
So I don't know what has happenned here. Is it the recent update that has caused this or something else?

This have happend to me twice now.
If I remember correctly it have to do with Cloud membership in my case. Both times I have been away on work and when I get home I have a email stating that payment have failed. After I set it right I start up Premiere and I get this failure.
First time the solution was uninstall Everything Adobe and run clean script. Reinstalling did the trick.
That solution is not working in the long run.
Here Adobe needs to do something soon!

  • File import failure in premiere pro on specific files

I have installed the latest version of Premiere Pro CC 2014. I am trying to import several video files that i have recorded on a Canon 5D Mark III. The problem is that while some of the files gets successfully imported, many files cant import because of a error message, file import failure. Unsupported file format etc. I have tried to open this in many media players, and all work fine there. I have even imported these files on the same Premiere Pro-version on a different machine, and there they work perfectly. But on this machine some files just wont open. Does anybody have a clue or tips on how I can fix this? I guess its a problem within the software.

It just seems to pick certain files and reject them.
Which ones does it eject? eg do they have a different file extension from the video files.
    Are they rgb?

  • Import animated model in after effects

Hello guys.I was wandering if there is a way to import a 3d model that was animated in programs like 3ds max an so.I mean not just rotation and possition but animated some part of the object also.e.g if it is a humman then he have to have animated hands. Thanks in advance and if there is something that u didnt understand , feel free to ask plsease.

I already have some pretty good 3D applications that can output OBJ and DXF amongst others (also FBX).  Do I really need to buy Zaxwerks JUST to import my OBJ into After Effects CS6?  In previous versions I could export an OBJ to Photoshop Extended and then import that as a 3D layer into AE (I just saw a tutorial on it) But I just learned that that functionality has been removed from AE CS6.  So what do I do now to get a 3D model into AE as a 3D layer?  I don't necessarily want to render everything from the 3D application as stills.  I would like to try to use AE's cameras so that I can integrate other AE layers with my 3D objects.
Or should I just stick to the old guns and do everything in the 3D application and render as stills?

  • DCP 2K in After Effects and AME - everything is good, but how do I mark the DCP file as "Advertisement"?

    Hello,
I need to covert a FHD video to DCP 2k. I can achieve that with After Effects and Media Encoder and export/render as DCP 2k. The problem is the cinema needs the file marked as "advertisement" to be able to run it, and by default it comes as "feature" .
I couldn't find a way in the options to change it, in media encoder or AE. Is there a way to actually change it and mark it / label it as advertisement? Or this is the only way to make DCP 2k in AE and AME?
    Thank you.

I would also like to know how to use this option. (If it at all exists) Adobe team, as per my phone conversation, can you please look at this?
