Quicktime files get squished when I put them back in iMovie

I cannot for the life of me figure out why this is so. I am using quicktime pro in order to make a couple of "picture in picture" shots. Then I try importing the new clip into iMovie, but it doesn't look the same. Either one, two or all of the clips are squished together or not centered.
Does anyone have an idea why this may be so?

iMovie works natively in the DV compression format. So if you are playing around in QT Pro in some other format and them importing the files to iMove, they are being reconverted to DV compressed frames at specific frame sizes that may throw off any x/y-axis offsets you may have applied at other dimensions. In this case, it is generally best to do all your editing of individual clips in the editor, output the edited files in your targeted compression format, and then create your "picture-in-picture" scaled off-set display as the final step in QT Pro.
