QuickTime files not visible in Firefox (Mac) & poster frame not visible

I created a website with QuickTime samples and uploaded it to an ftp server.
I can see the QT files when I access via Safari (Mac + Win), Chrome (Win), IE (Win) and Firefox (Win), but for some reason, when I access via Firefox (Mac) they do not appear???????? Any ideas on that?
Also, I have tried setting a poster frame, both using QT Pro and iWeb's poster frame function, but it does not seem to be working. I still only see the first frame of the video which unfortunately is a black frame. I am getting a little frustrated with this...
Please help.

There are alternative ways to add a QT file to a web page that might be of interest to you. Both ways do not require the movie to load with the page which speeds up the page load.
1 - Opening Item in New Window Sized for the Item.
2 - QT Movie Exported out of QT via Export for Web

  • Open quicktime file to play movie and mac hangs and leaves artifacts (screen smear) on screen mac slows down

I recently completed a clean install of snow leopard and added some RAM to my MAC
when I open a QuickTime file... my MAC slows down, I get the rainbow pin wheel and screens and menus that I try to access start to "smear"... leave behind artifacts
ultimately the movies flutter and don't play properly, and I have to restart my MAC to reset my desktop
I suspect it may be related to my RAM because I've never had this issue previously although it only seems to occur when I use QuickTime
... also I installed "flip for mac"
I purchased the RAM from OWC
    thoughts?

The codec info should have been listed before the comma that precedes 640x360. Seems to be a bug in the recent versions of QT 7. If you have QT Pro you can still find the codec name by opening Movie Properties and checking the video format that way. Anyway, since Perian cant play it I suspect you are out of luck in MacOS x. Not all avi decompressors have been ported to OS X. It may be that the compressor is one of the old Indeo codecs and those definitely will not work in X. They will work in the Classic environment but a lot of you folks have given up on Classic. Just in case here is a link to the Indeo codecs for Classic: Indeo codecs for Classic
Have you tried playing it in VLC. If it is not an Indeo file VLC may play it.
The Mac version of WMP doesn't play avi or mpeg files -- mostly it plays wmv or asf files and not even the most recent versions of those formats.

  • Cant play ntsc quicktime file on my USUALLY pal mac

    Hi All,
Im in Florida and were trying to import a quicktime file into FCP for editing.
Were shooting on a JVC NTSC camera.
We dragged the file to my desktop but when I try to play it it just crashes and gives me the ol' "report bug to Apple'
I changed my capture settings etc in FCP but this shouldnt matter for simply playing the file should it ?
    Any ideas ?
    Cheers in advance !

Also, it really does help if you offer up what version of Final Cut Pro, QT and OSX you are running as well as what format the camera records. Don't forget to spell out how you are going about bringing it into FCP. Without all of that information, we are simply guessing.
    My guess -
A number of issues like yours can be caused by running software that is too old to understand the newer formats. If that's the case, you'll need to either upgrade the computer and software or convert the format to something your version of FCP will understand.

  • Set poster frame not an option in View menu

Do you need QuickTime Pro just to be able to set a poster frame for a particular .MOV file?  I have read on the internet that other people find this option in the View menu, but it doesn't show up for me.  I have Lion installed.
    Thanks!

I have an amazingly simple solution that worked for me:
Open the video in quicktime and press cmd+c on the frame of your choice. Then right click the video file in he finder and choose "Get Info" press cmd+v and the poster frame will be fixed.
I do not have Quicktime Pro, so this will work on hopefully any version of Quicktime.
It appears that different people have different definitions of a "Poster Frame." This gentleman is referring to the icon image displayed at the Finder level rather than a true "Poster Frame" as can be designated by QT 7 Pro, iWeb, or iTunes apps. The icon display to which he is referring can be created by either by pasting a copied frame to the "Info" window as described above or by dragging and dropping an image file (of compatible dimensions and format) directly to the "Info" widow icon area.
As to the creation of a designated "Poster Frame," if you do not have QT 7 Pro or no longer use iWeb, then your can create a "Poster Frame" using iTunes. Simply open the file in the iTunes player, locate the frame you want designated as the "Poster Frame," control-click the player window to open the context menu, and select the "Set Poster Frame" option. If the video does not already have a "Cover Art" image associated with it, the designated poster frame will be used as the cover art image but not adopted as the file icon image. If the file already has an external image associated with it as cover art, then the cover art image is used for both the cover art and the file icon image but the "Poster Frame" will still be recognized by applications that recognize/use this designation.

  • Movie Poster Frames Not Maintained in Export?

I've been setting Poster Frames on all my LR5 videos with the assumption that they would be maintained when i export my videos, using LR5's native export function.  I'm now noticing that the poster frames are *not* maintained in the export files.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I am exporting using H.264 compression, set to Max.  I also have checked the option to maintain all metadata in the export dialogue.  Any other suggestions?

UPDATE: I noticed that the poster frame of the export is maintained when I view the exported file on my Apple TV, pulling from my home server.  But the strange thing is that Lightroom itself does *not* maintain that poster frame when viewing the exported clip within Lightroom.  Any ideas why that would be?  The exported file is not in the same folder as the original, but that should not make a difference, I wouldn't think.  Seems like a bug.

  • Itunes 12.0.1.26 poster frame not working

I have ripped a large number of children's TV episodes from a single TV series into iTunes.  Top enable my child to choose her programme, I'd like to set a poster frame for each episode.  The 'Set Poster Frame' from right-click menu is ineffective.  I have found that if I 'Set Poster Frame' from right-click menu, then immediately set 'Rating' from right-click menu then the poster frame is changed - but - as soon as I watch an episode on AppleTV the frame is reset to the default.
How can I set and keep the poster frame?
    Itunes 12.0.1.26
    Mac Mini Late 2012
    AppleTV 2

I have an identical device setup and had the same issue with handbrake 0.10 - poster frames weren't staying set.  I didn't use to have this issue, so I did some research.  I don't know if this is the root issue or a coincidence but Quicktime's Movie Inspector shows that movies recording in handbrake 0.9.9 use the video format "JVT/AVC Coding", whereas 0.10 videos are in vanilla H.264.  Everything else is apparently the same.  I don't know what the real difference is between those formats, but once I reverted to handbrake 0.9.9 the movies are behaving as expected.  I can now set poster frames (without having to also set a rating in the thumbnail window above the movie while it is playing) and when the movies are sync'ed to iPad or watched on AppleTV they show up as expected.
    TL;DR - revert to Handbrake 0.9.9

  • Set Poster Frame not working

I can't set poster frames in bin icon view using command-P, nothing sticks...  anyone else experiencing this?  PPro CC 7.2.1 & OS X 10.9.1

I'm not clear on how Poster Frames are supposed to work here.  The image you see for the clip in icon mode is the frame the clip's playhead is on.  It's the first frame by default, but when you play through a clip in the bin, which you'd need to do to choose a Poster Frame, it stays on that frame anyway until you move the clips playhead.  So...you end up with the same result.
But even if a Poster Frame could be set, does that mean you can no longer play through the clip in the bin because it's always showing that Poster Frame?  I don't understand the purpose of that.  And if you can still play the clip in the bin, then what use a Poster Frame if it doesn't always show that?
    I'm missing something.

  • Poster frames not on site

When I go into inspector for a video and select a poster frame, it doesn't seem to show up once the site is published. Any ideas?? Other features like auto play and hide movie controller work. I'm stumped.

It appears that the poster frame option only work with a movie on an Albums page. (See Roddy's post in this topic.
I also cannot get it to work on a regular page. There is an alternative way to add a movie to a page that will let you pick any frame of the movie to display and then open the movie in a separate window sized just for the movie. You can see an example of it on this demo page along with a description of how to make it happen. It may not fit in your scheme of things but take a look anyway.
A second option is described and demonstrated in Section B of this demo page. The how to is in Tutorial #18

  • I'm trying to reload the google toolbar but I get a message that it's not compatable with Firefox 5.0. Not true! I have both on my laptop. Help!

I lost my google tool bar for no reason. When I try to reload it I'm told that it's not compatible with firefox 5.0

Google needs to update the Google Toolbar program for Firefox 5.0.
The Google Toolbar '''7.1.20110512W''' version does work pretty good in Firefox 5.0 by using the Compatibility Reporter extension. But not every feature works 100%.<br />
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
    http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2011/06/enable-google-toolbar-in-firefox-5.html
Google Labs has been working on a GTB 8 version, but it looks like it isn't made for Firefox - just for Internet Explorer. <br />
    http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1111588#toolbar_info <br />
So, maybe Google isn't going to be supporting Firefox any longer. That might be a move to force Google Toolbar users over to Google Chrome, which I believe has all those features built-in.

  • Has anyone else encountered a problem with poster frames not recognising a video's pixel aspect ratio

I'm discovering a strange effect with some of the .mp4 videos I've upload into iBooks Author. They're Pal SD 4:3 .movs with a 16:9 pixel aspect ratio and they play out fine on the iPad. However the iBooks software seems to be ignoring the pixel aspect ratio of the poster frame. This leads to the situation.
    1) When I drag my video into iBooks author all looks good - the video is 16:9 and if I choose to set a poster frame (or leave it at default) it looks 16:9 in the iBooks Author.
    2) I preview my book and it opens in iBooks on the iPad. But now the poster frame aspect ratio is 4:3
    3) I click on the video to start playing and it immediately jumps to 16:9 aspect ratio and plays out fine.
    4) If it scroll down a couple of pages and then scroll back the video poster frame has now reset itself to 4:3
This sounds like a bug to me. Anyone else had it? Do you know if it's possible to report bugs without having a Developer licence?
    Thanks for any help
    Rob

While there is no formal bug reporting method similar to what devs have w/apps, iBA does have a 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item.

  • Now that my Mac OSX v10.5 is not supported by Firefox, and I'm not ready to buy a new computer, what are my options?

I'm wondering if I can, or should, upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion?????  Or, should I switch to Safari?  There is not much stored on my computer except for usually about 500 pictures.

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Published site looks good on safari (mac) NOT good on firefox (mac)

Any person who knows how this comes?
    site I'm talking about: www.dinarodrigues.com
    fonts looks thicker in FF
shadow behind text isn't there in FF
How can I resolve this issues?

Shadows have been a problem for a while in Firefox.
Take a screenshot of your text with the shadow and drop the JPEG onto the page instead of the text.
I could live with the thickening in the font as it is easier to read.

  • Adobe Flash Player/Shockwave is not running on FireFox... does not run in Youtube, or other video sites.

Hmmm... this morning I was watching youtube videos.. and I noticed a little lag. Really minor... but thought that shouldn't be happening.? So decided to see if I could fix it. Not sure what I did or if I did anything to cause this? I really don't think so. Maybe firefox.exe -p?? Was working fine up until today?
I've read a bunch of the forums and tried a bunch of stuff but still no go. When I disable protected mode it works fine, but I want protected mode to be enabled so that I'm... well... 'protected!'
I've uninstalled FireFox and Flash Player and reinstalled numerous times but still same thing.
I'm running Windows 8.1, with most recent Flash and FireFox. My computer is an i7 4700HQ 2.4 Ghz, 12 GB Ram etc... its a 6 month laptop.
Anyone know what the issue is? I've never experienced anything like it? I've ran Malaware bytes.. didn't find anything. Ran AVG and found one threat... I think it was the Crack threat (cockos??) does that ring a bell...? came from a torrent. That issue has been healed now tho.. not sure if they are related??
Also ran a disc cleanup and it took about 5 minutes... doesn't usually take that long but its all clean now. Deleted a bunch of debug dump files... again, not sure if that's related??

Some background information about the Adobe Flash Protected Mode for '''''christ1'''.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/security/2012/06/inside-flash-player-protected-mode-for-firefox.html
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 that you have is a relatively low end graphics card and low end for on-board graphics chips, whichever you have. ''Unless that is a laptop that switches drivers for "gaming" which puts a lot more load on the hardware and runs the battery out a lot faster.'' Technically the HD 4600 ''should'' be enough for web browsing, but Flash is a lot more than simple web browsing.
IMO, if disabling the Flash Protected Mode solves that issue - do that. Or upgrade your hardware, especially if you have a separate Graphics Card ''[vs an on-board chip]'' or can install a better card in a desktop computer.
As far as YouTube videos goes, have you tried using the HTML5 setting for YouTube?
    https://www.youtube.com/html5
Make that setting and Google will deliver HTML5 video when it is available for each "clip". From what I have seen ''[I'm not a big user of YouTube, though]'', like maybe 75% of the clips I see are available in HTML5 - ''ymmv''.
BTW, Mozilla is working on eliminating the need for even having to use Flash. They're working a a project which is code-named Shumway to play SWF-format files.
    http://mozilla.github.io/shumway/
You can download it from that page, but it is at the early stages of development and needs a lot more work before it is truly usable.
