Quicktime & flash ?

installed the new flash player, now in both safari and firefox the quicktime doesn't work video windows on most webpages now show the faded quicktime Q logo with a questionmark over it.....
any suggestions? ( adobe customer service is a trip and a half )

AppleCore28 - I agree, this is the most frustrated I have ever been with my Macs! I have tried every suggestion I have found on the forums and none have worked. Occasionally Flash works with Safari, but most of the time it does not. I have all the latest updates and have run numerous diagnostics and repairs, all to no avail. All I need to know now is how to uninstall QuickTime, and what negative effect (if any) it will have on my browsing.

  • Adobe quicktime flash plug-in won't stay plugged in

I have installed and re-installed the adobe quicktime flash plug-in for powerPC based macs several times over the past few weeks. Each time the plugin works for about one or two surfs on the internet then the little "Q-?" symbol appears again only to my great frustration. This seems to happen at the same time in both firefox and safari. Any suggestions about what to do? I tried repairing permissions and restarting after install. Thanks. Erin

    DonaSuerte,
    Apple Discussions!
    Try the following:
QuickTime Preferences > Advanced > MIME Stettings > Miscellaneous.
    Deactivate the "Flash Media" option.
This tells the browser not to to display Flash Media and lets the newly installed Adobe software work its magic.

If the above thread doesn't help, try this...
Last but not least: Thanks to QuickTimeKirk........
    Quit QuickTime.
Open User (Home)/Library/Preferences and delete any .plist file with QuickTime in its name. Don't worry as a new one will be created.
Open System Preferences/QuickTime and see if the window and tabs work as they should.

  • QuickTime Flash plug-in

I am using Photo-to-Movie to create a movie from slides. In their instructions on putting movies on the web with flash they indicated I need a Flash encoder plug-in installed. They indicated using a QuickTime Flash plug-in. I could not find one on apple web site. Any ideas?

It appears that there is a different version of Photo to Movie for Leopard than for Tiger, because I can not find any instructions in my Help pdf about that.
My way would be to either follow their instructions on sending the movie to your .Mac account, or export to Quicktime and let QT convert for the web.

  • QuickTime/Flash (*.swf) - no sound

QuickTime Pro 7.1.6, Flash Player 9UB
New problem. Everything copacetic until in middle of class, *.swf file embedded in Keynote presentation had no sound. Visual ok, but no sound when playing *.swf files. Even if just open *.swf file in QT, visual ok, sound missing. Same files will play fine in other applications, but not in QT. Everything works on non-Intel computers.
Must have sound as use flash files extensively (embedded in Keynote presentations) for classroom. Please help. Monday morning is coming up quick time.
BTW have installed Perian 1.0 to no avail.

Problem solved in wee hours last night. Had accidentally deleted <com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist>. Hadn't discovered effect until middle of class, because hadn't rebooted until then.
BTW, only time I use *.swf files is in Keynote. If the "Open with:" section of the Get Info panels is set to have all the flash files open in QT and then, in System Preferences/QT/Advanced, the "Enable Flash" property is checked everything works (now) fine.
Thanks, folks. I'm set for Monday!

  • QuickTime/Flash problem with Firefox - Redux

I know people are having problems getting Flash content to play on the latest version of Firefox (7) for Macs. I know it has something to do with QuickTime interceding on behalf of Flash Player and screwing with Firefox's mind. Following instructions on this forum, I downloaded the latest version of Flash Player 9, loaded it, and everything worked fine -- as long as I didn't quit Firefox. Opening Firefox again, the problem's back. Returning to your forum, you suggest I go into QuickTime's preference menu and turn off Flash in the Advanced section. Trouble was, it wasn't on. So, now what do I do?
Also, I really don't want to turn off Flash in QuickTime. I will be making Flash movies again soon, and QuickTime is integral to that. I also like Firefox. I really don't want to stop using it. Has anyone told Mozilla they really screwed up and need to fix this problem?

You mean Firefox version 2.0.0.6. That's the latest version.
In the preferences for Quicktime-->Enable Flash-->leave unchecked. That's to play .swf (flash) that is wrapped in a Quicktime container. And Quicktime only supports .swf (flash) version 5 and below... Really not a selling point... What are they up to version 8/9 now? To me not worth making any more. Unless your using flash to make sprites to use in Qt. And at that point you knew to know actionscript for version 5 of flash.
If you come across a .swf/quicktime a popup window will ask you if you want to activate it. When you close out the browser window it will revert to being off again.
Go to the MIME Settings that is just below that Enable Flash box. Scroll down to the bottom... Miscellaneous file Formats. Uncheck Flash media. This one really needs to be off!!!
As far as I know Quicktime really doesn't play a part in Flash anymore. As a container.

  • Color variation introduced somewhere between AfterEffects-Quicktime-Flash-Dreamweaver

    http://www.scbadasscoffee.com
Please note the subtle difference between the background
color of the web page (CD9933) and the background of the Flash
    animation.
I created the original in AE Pro...took it into
Quicktime...exported it to a smaller file size MOV file...then
sucked it into FLASH and saved it as a movie...which you see on the
    link above.
Can anyone give me a hint as to where the color variation was
    introduced?
Thanks, it isn't obvious to me (a beginner)
    --bill

I have more results after further testing.
    Running OS X 10.8.4
    AE 10.5.0.253
    K5000 GPU
My AE project is setup as a 16bpc, HDTV (rec709), Blend Colors Using 1.0 Gamma, Match Legacy After Effects QuickTime Gamma Adjustments, Compensate for Scene-referred Profiles.
I import a FCP 7 generated QT ProRes4444 file.  The file is rendered as YUV Full Precision with Super-Whites.  In an attempt to round trip the file, I rendered the singular file with no effects back out as a ProRes4444 file with rec709, sRGB or Preserve RGB color profiles.  Once imported back into AE, each of these 3 files matches the original identically.  Quite well actually, even when I turn on difference mode and crank the gamma, they hold up really well.  Nothing perceptually different here.
NOW, when I render out as DPX, EXR or TIFF, I get a completely different result.  EACH image sequence imports identically, so DPX matches EXR matches TIFF.  BUT they are all identically different than the original.  Once again there is a color shift.  NOT a gamma shift, a HUE shift.
I am rendering each file as a rec709 and importing as a rec709.
    What gives?
Here is the kicker, when I switch to my windows box (WIN7 SP1), then open my AEP file.  The colors match identically across all files & formats!!!  I literally set my OS X AE comp to solo 2 layers on difference mode.  There is a clear difference.  When I open the same file within WIN7, pure BLACK.  NO DIFFERENCE.  Holy crap this is alarming.  Side note, still have the hue shift within NUKE across platforms but it is consistent.
    WIN7 64bit SP1
    AE 10.5.0.253
    GTX680 GPU
I am not going to blame Adobe, since I am almost certain this is an APPLE issue.  I would like to ask the Adobe AE Team, what value is AE reading that Nuke is not?  Is there different QT importers?
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Firefox, Quicktime, Flash, and Vista don't play well

I have a problem with Quicktime. When I install quicktime on my Vista machine, it takes over the Flash Plugin in Firefox, my most used web browser. Firefox has no options to tell it "Don't use Quicktime, use Flash!". When I was directed to the MIME settings, I found that they do not exist in Vista. When I click the MIME settings button, it sends me to a Windows-Run default setting panel when I set the file types associated with Quicktime. It turns out that click the File Types button and the MIME settings brings me to the same place. The only solution I have for this thus far is to uninstall quicktime, but that leaves iTunes unable to run. If anyone has a way to fix this, please tell me. It has been grating on my nerves; I've found Apple not to helpful in the "support" department.
    Thanks.

I'm running into the same issue.
I've gone into Default Settings on Vista and associated all quicktime file types to my preferred WMP and made WMP the default for every applicable application. However this doesn't keep quicktime from opening movie/streaming video files when I use the Firefox browser.
So in the end...you can steer every file association preference away from quicktime that you want, (I did) but it still opens movies/streaming video in Firefox.

  • Quicktime Flash Mov to FCP

I've been given a quicktime movie (.mov) that has been converted to flash. When I import it into FCP, the video and audio are not separate. How do I do that so i can adjust the audio separately?
    I have quicktime Pro.
    thanks.

http://perian.org is free software that can convert .flv (Flash Video) via QuickTime Pro.
If your files are .swf and inside a .mov "container" QuickTime Pro can't extract the audio at export.

  • Quicktime & Flash.  Possible to load into a .swf file?

    Hello,
I'm new to video with flash so I'd really appreciate some
    help.
My client wants to be able to load a quicktime onto the flash
stage but still allow the end user to download
the .mov file, basically maintain the quicktime
functionality. It must be streaming video as well. We don't want to
just open the .mov file in a pop up window. Is this possible?
The way the site is set up so far is I'm loading each
category into level 2 of the site with all the main buttons on
level 1. Once the video thumbnails load on level 2, I'd like the
quicktime to load on level 2 but without converting it to a .flv.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The Flash Player only supports playback of FLV movie files.
    It cannot
playback QuickTime movies or movies of any other format. If
    you want to
play it within the Flash Player it will need to be converted
    to FLV. You
could still offer a separate download of the MOV if you
    wanted.

  • No media shown in Safari (Quicktime, Flash, etc. just won't show!!)

About a few days ago I noticed that any website with flash, quicktime (incl. WMV Player) media just won't show! There is no controller, even when I open the movie directly in Safari. I reinstalled Flash, for example, and still nothing works. But, I know this is isolated to Safari, because flash and quicktime work in all my other browsers such as Camino, Firefox, and Opera.
Can someone please help me find a way to fix this? It's really getting on my nerves because no flash or quicktime-enabled site works anymore!

Yes- I just checked, and plug-ins were disabled. I enabled them, restarted, and they still wouldn't display because Safari didn't even change the preference (it was left unchecked). I simply trashed my Safari plist and voila! It works.
    Thank you very much.

  • Quicktime/flash problems after installing Leopard

I upgraded to Leopard today but now i get Quicktime Question mark appearing everywhere including youtube
    I have Quicktime Pro 7.2.1
The problem appears on both Firefox and safari
I've tried all the previous suggestions but no good.
    Any ideas?

I don't have Leopard but the QuickTime version installed with it is still 7.2 and Apple couldn't have a "Leopard" and "Previous OS's" versions of it. The Preference Panes may have changed but I doubt such a long Leopard "beta" test would have missed something this important.
Those posting here and using Leopard should view the "About QuickTime" window to see the version number. They should also learn how to expand the MIME Settings dialog window by clicking on the tiny disclosure triangle before the word "Miscellaneous".

  • Keynote, Quicktime & Flash

    Hello,
As QT 7.4 no longer allows Flash to be imported, I am (sigh) actually going to try and build another boot drive that will let me use Flash in Keynote.
Does anyone know what the latest version of QT is that WILL allow Flash 5 import?
Does anyone know what the last version of QT is that Keynote 4.02 can use?
[warning wrong forum question] Does anyone know if it's possible to boot from a flash drive? It's kind of silly to have to attach a Firewire drive to a laptop to give presentations...
I'm hoping a clean install of 10.5 will do the trick...
    Many thanks...

  • After iTunes/Quicktime update, no flash in Firefox

    Hi,
I have now several times had the same problem after I updated iTunes and quicktime, the flash objects in Firefox get the question mark.
I did extensive search on this on the web, apple forum and firefox forum and have now found one solution that has worked couple of times for me.
After the iTunes/Quicktime is updated, and you get question marks instead of flash objects.
    Solution:
    1. Close firefox
    2. Go to the firefox plugins directory. Can be found at C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins
    3. Remove all npqtplugin.dll files (usually 7 of them, numbered as npqtplugin[2..7].dll).
    4. Start firefox, and test some flash based page.
This solution works at Windows 2000, Firefox 2.x and latest iTunes/Quicktime.

I don't understand, where on my computer is such a Firefox plug ins list.
My situation is similar, but I notice Quicktime/Flash failures on ALL my browsers...I.E., Netscape, Real Player. Isn't this something Apple should be taking care of, having messed up our software with their download?
How do I reverse the download-Quicktime 7.1.5, etc?
    Thanks
    John

  • Plug-in for Mime files for QuickTime missing.

I've been trying to view certain videos and listen to streaming music and sometimes it works (never that well) and other times it doesn't. I'm using QT not WM and when it works the videos don't play in the viewer. They usually download to the desktop and then have to be manually played. When it doesn't work I get a small blue box with a question mark and the following statement:
The page has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp.
I can't find the correct plug-in(s) on the website. What should I do?

Hi Jeronimo and welcome to the forums!
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5.2, but please see my footnote).
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
The new RealPlayer Plus (v.11) is still in beta and therefore free, but works well on Tiger. It includes a download function, and you can get that here:
    http://uk.real.com/player/mac/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
    FOOTNOTE
    If you are running Leopard:
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1

  • Safari and quicktime no longer working

I apologize in advance that I have really no information to offer...but this is really causing me problems.
This afternoon I received my normal system update notice, which included updates for Safari and Quicktime (I have Mac OS X 10.4.11), without really thinking about it I clicked accept and went about my business...after the restart I went online and noticed that absolutely nothing involving quicktime/flash/windows media player files would not show up on screen...I just got the Q with a question mark.
I read through all the discussions for quicktime, deleted and re-installed quicktime, my flash plugins, etc....NOTHING has worked.
At this point I am not sure where to turn, I am only basic in my knowledge of plugins and how things work, but I follow everyones advice and it is really annoying me that I cannot view any kind of video online.
    thoughts? Am I missing something?

for "System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Advanced -> (MIME Settings...) -> Miscellaneous ->" I have "Quicktime HTML (GHTM) checked, while "SMIL 1.0" is unchecked
So is "System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Advanced -> Enable Flash ->" (unchecked)
OK. They both look normal enough.
What plug-ins do you have under the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder? (This one is under the main hard drive area, not you User area).
Run this command in the Terminal if you're not sure and then paste the output here:
    <pre>ls -l /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/</pre>
I have the following listed: a micromedia folder, and "RealPlayer Plugin.plugin
I'm guessing you meant 'Macromedia' instead of Micromedia? Try dragging both of those onto your Desktop for the time being. Unless you have some special reason, internet plug-ins generally go in the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder so that all users of the computer can access them. Plug-Ins present in the User area also take precedence, so there's a chance those might be part of the problem.
