Quicktime Freezes Computer!

I had to upgrade my video card to work with my new Cinema display and now Quicktime movies invariably freeze the whole system after about 30 sec. of playing. When I say freeze, I mean the mouse has no effect, force quit doesn't work, nothing. I have to push the stop button and restart. I'm running the latest quicktime and have made sure there isn't an older conflicting version. Any ideas?

The freezing seems an idiosyncratic symptom, but I wasn't closely watching video display issue reports with QuickTime 7.6.4 and the few earlier versions, Jeff.
However there were some problems with viewing movies embedded in web pages that were addressed by the recent QuickTime 7.6.5 update:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL837
... so it might be worth checking to see if that PC performs any better (while watching an embedded movie) with a QuickTime 7.6.5 on board.

Extra Notes:  Even with my Windows 7 Computer - I only have 7.6.7 - it also works correctly - with audio.

Qualcomm Pure Voice is still an export option in version 7.3 (as it has been in every version).
It fails to play in 7.3 as others have noticed. I didn't catch it in my beta tests of this version and expect it to be fixed with an updated version.
I just tested exports using that codec and they do play the audio. Only a few Pure Voice audio tracks I have on my machine fail. All use 22.050 Hz at mono settings.
    A bug.

  • Quicktime freezes everytime I open it. Windows don't close. How do I fix this?

Quicktime freezes everytime I open it. Windows with previously watched videos keep opening. When I close them, and when the only one I wish to watch is left, it freezes and I have to force quit. A window of that video is then added to the many that open upon starting up next time.

Here's a few things I try when an app misbehaves and crashes.
    1. Quit the app and restart it like this: Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it work like normal.
    2. If the first suggestion did not work try quitting the app again but instead of restarting it right away, reset your device like this: Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. Ten restart the app and see if it works.
    3. If neither of the previous suggestions worked I suggest deleting the app by tapping and holding on the app until it jiggles and displays a Rex X. Tap the X and confirm that you want to delete the app. Then reset your device. After the device has restarted go to the App Store and download Facebook again.
If all these fail you might just have to search for an alternative app until Facebook fixes the problem.

  • Quicktime causes computer to restart

Whenever I try to launch Quicktime - my computer will automatically restart - this only happens with Quicktime and the associated video files - ie. when I try to drop an mp4 file into itunes - it does the restarting thing as well. I have tried the uninstall and reinstall many times but to no avail. Any ideas as to why this is happening?? Could it be a virus??

i am having the same problem. whats the deal? why doesnt apple come up with a solution for this. the problem is quicktime 7, because 6 worked great.

  • Security update KB3025390 freezes computer

    security update KB3025390 freezes computer
I thought my computer was permanently broken after a routine update. It took over 30 minutes to turn on, getting stuck before and after the sign on screen, could not open any programs or the internet or help, task manager did not work, the internet
did not work. I finally managed to open up installed programs and get it to show me updates. The only update done was windows security update KB3025390. I removed this update, and my computer started working again, as if nothing had happened. My problem
is now whenever my computer is idle, it automatically downloads this update again, and turns into a brick for an hour and a half while I wait patiently for it to allow me to get into the correct screen to get rid of this update. I takes 5-10 minutes after
making a selection for it to open.
I need to either fix it so this update stops freezing my computer or stop my computer from uploading this update.

  • ISight and iPod freeze computer

On the last two macs I've owned, when I've tried to connect both my iSight and my iPod via firewire, it always ends up completely freezing either my computer, my iPod, or both. Since then I've been sticking to just switching them out depending on which I'm using, but I'm getting tired of that. I'd like to have them both connected all the time. So, does anybody know a way to fix the problem (or maybe an OSX update fixed the problem already?)? Thanks.

A "not uncommon" problem. iSight draws significant power and can be picky about what and how it shares your Mac's Firewire port(s).
See the Possible hardware or software conflicts with iSight. FAQ for my best suggestions.

  • Brand new 21"-tilt freezes computer

Tilting the screen a few degrees up causes the screen to go black and freezes computer. Can only recover by rebooting. Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Anyone have any ideas? Computer is 5 days old and was bought through Apple Store.

Wow! That's a new one by me ... weird. Sounds as though something is loose or shorting out inside.  Definitely take it back to the Apple Store ASAP.
If you have installed a lot of configs, apps and programs make a backup to an external disk with Time Machine and/or SuperDuper! ... you can restore to the replacement machine if necessary.
You could also ask the Apple Store to transfer your changes/additions to the replacement.

  • 653x freezes computer

    Hi
we have a problem with a freezing computer. We use a 6534 high speed digital input card and we input data with 20MHz at 32 Bit. The application is running 24/7.
The problem is two or three times a day the computer freezes, we don't know why. The same application is running on other computers without any problems. We expect a jitter on the clock and made tests with a higher clock rate. The maximum what the 6534 can work with is 20MHz. We made a test and at a clock rate of 33MHz the computer freezes.
Can a jitter also freeze the computer?
Why does a NI card freeze the computer?
    Does anyone know a solution
    We use:
    - windows XP
    - NIDAQ 7.1
    - PXI-6534
    - CVI
    - Pentium Dual Core Computer with 2.5GHz
    Thanks

The main question is why can we freeze the computer by increasing the frequency of the 6534 over 20MHz ...
I did not think it throughly and you already mentioned that the max is 20Mhz, so can it be because of this maximum clock rate limit (as shown on the product web page)?
What happens if you lower the freq a little, does the problem disappear completely?

  • Mov files and quicktime keep freezing computer

Hi all, im new to this. My new digital camera outputs mov movies. When i play mov movies in quicktime, it plays for about 5 seconds then the computer completely freezes. This also happens when i try and play them in other players such as VLC and windows media player. I tried to reinstall quicktime but on installation it freezes the computer towards the end of installation when it does file extension types. Now i have a partially installed quicktime, and still cannot play these movies!! Really look forward to, and appreciate any help, as this has been annoying me for ages now. Many thanks, Andrew

It should also be noted that even opening quicktime without playing a movie freezes the computer also!
    Cheers

  • Quicktime Screen Recording Freezes Computer

For a while I've been using Quicktime on my Macbook Pro Classic 2012 (OS 10.8.4) to record my screen. But for some reason, recently it has begun to randomly cause my computer to freeze up. And by freeze up, I don't mean spinning beach ball or kernal panic -- it literally FREEZES, as in, all of the sudden everything onscreen stops, the mouse won't move (but remains a pointer, not a beach ball), and all sound stops. Closing the lid, pressing escape, the mouse button, etc. does nothing--the only way I can get out of it is to hard shut down by holding the power button.
Any ideas or thoughts on what's causing this, why it might have only recently started or how I can fix it?
BTW, my MBP is currently using a Crucial SSD that I installed myself right after purchasing it, if that matters. Also I've been recrording larger things lately, so perhaps that has something to do with it?

    Hey Musiclover99,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing some performance issues with your MacBook Pro. I’d like to ask you a few questions to see if we can isolate this issue further.
First, it sounds like you are trying to record your screen. Do you have a lot of applications running while attempting to record your screen, or an application that requires a lot of memory? Does the issue persist if you attempt to screen record something else?
You can use the steps in these resources to help isolate the issue:

  • Itunes Freezes Computer When Downloading Video To Ipod

Last week I purchased a brand-new 30 gigabyte video Ipod. It will download music from itunes but not video. I purchased two video programs through the itunes music store, but time I try downloading them to my ipod, the itunes program will download some of the video, but during this process will freeze and lock up my computer. In fact, I can't even do a cont-alt-delete to unlock itunes; I have to actually hard shut down my computer (ouch!). My computer is a Dell Dimension 4300 with Windowns XP (service pack 2), the Video card is NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX 400, and has DirectX9. I'm using the USB-2 port, reinstalled the USB-2 drivers, reinstalled itunes and Quicktime several times, but are still experiencing the same problems. Please Help! Does anyone know what might be wrong?
Dell Dimension 4300   Windows XP   Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2, 256 MB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX400 graphics card,

    hiya!
I purchased two video programs through the itunes music store, but time I try downloading them to my ipod, the itunes program will download some of the video, but during this process will freeze and lock up my computer.
hmmmm. if a file in your music library is corrupted, it can cause a connection problem with an ipod.
usually, that causes this error message:
iTunes displays a -69 error when syncing iPod
    ... or occasionally this one:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
... but on very rare occasions, i've seen it cause the entire PC (not just itunes) to lock up, like you're describing. (this would be the first occasion in which i've seen it happen with a video file, though.)
so let's quickly check on whether it's those files (or a more general problem) that is causing the issue here.
are the files playing perfectly fine in your itunes at the moment? (no skips or bumps or odd behavior there?)
do other video files transfer to the ipod without any problems? this document might be helpful when it comes to checking on that:
Verifying iTunes video conversion and iPod video syncing using sample QuickTime files
