Quicktime freezes image, sound still runs

I've downloaded some files in mp4 format some HD ones, sizes 848x480x264 and when I press play they work normally but after 3 or 4 minutes the image freezes and sound still running, why is that? Is annoying doing a presentation and having this trouble, does anyone have the same issue or how to make it work again?
Quicktime version is 10.1

After a while I gave up, but is not an isolated problem, some of my friends and people I know have the same issue... I've downloaded MPlayerX from the App Store and now everything works fine... You should try it, it's free

  • My computer freezes when I try to log in to You Tube and is still "running" after I close it. How can I go back to my the previous version of Firefox?

After downloading Firefox 4 Beta, my personal website does not display as it used to. The text is now aligned left when it was centered. Also, when I try to log in to You Tube, everything freezes. I have to use the computer task manager to close the browser. When I try to open Firefox again, I get a message stating it is still running and I must close it or re-start my computer to open Firefox again.
I would like to return to the previous version of Firefox.

You can get duplicate installation disks from Apple Customer Service.  You will have to provide them with the MBP serial number and there is a charge,
Another option is to purchase the Snow Leopard retail disk from the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Either option should allow you to install an OSX.
    Ciao.

  • Apple TV Freezes images after about 3 mins of playing

Wondering if anyone else has run into this issue. My ATV suddenly started freezing images after about 3-4 mins into watching a show, pictures, or playing music. The sound still shows but image freezes and you can't even exit to go back to the main menu the whole remains frozen. All you can do is unplug it restart it.
thoughts before i take it into apple?

Does this happen to all content, it's not clear whether this is every video or whether it includes music or not. Where is the content, are you syncing or streaming, if streaming how are you connected, wifi or wired.

  • Display and USB dead, but Mac Pro still running?

    Hi,
Two days ago, my 8-core Mac Pro (early 2008) became unusable. It displays the Apple logo on grey background during startup then after a while, the rolling "circle" freezes, yet the Mac keeps booting as we can still hear the hard drive running. Sometimes, the screen blinks once or twice just before freezing, but nothing more.
After a while, the Mac finishes booting up: its name appears in the "Shared" section of a Finder window seen from another Mac. However, I can't connect to it via "Share Screen": error message saying the Mac is unreachable. The keyboard doesn't work either cause I can't blindly use it --not even to try to restart the Mac (CTRL-EJECT + R).
If I plug my iPhone, the battery starts charging but no synchro --I don't hear the faintest noise from the hard drive, meaning iTunes doesn't launch.
However, I can connect to the Mac thru file sharing; once identified, all volumes appear and can be mounted and browsed normally. I also can connect thru a SSH session and pilot the Mac via the Terminal. Note: the "shutdown -r now" command seems to work as the shutting down message appears with three beeps and the Mac disappears from the Shared list mentioned above, but it doesn't turns off "physically"; fans and hard drives keep running and the front LED remains on... forever.
All this makes me think there's something really wrong with the I/O management (except network but is it really I/O?): no display, no mouse, no keyboard (no USB).
Of course, I zapped the PRAM, removed the extra RAM I bought two months ago, I also removed one by one the two internal hard drives and checked all possible connections. The same problem keeps happening during startup, even with only the system DVD in the superdrive --without any hard drive connected, just to be sure.
For information, the very first problem happened while playing a game on Windows via Boot Camp: the screen froze but music and sound kept running. After three restarts --still under Boot Camp-- and a freeze a few minutes after I was back in the game, I gave up and restarted under Mac OS X. The Mac worked normally for about an hour, then crashed while I was browsing my music in iTunes. The next crashes were happening faster after each restart. And now, the Mac won't even boot normally.
Here's my story. If one of you guys have an idea of what could be happening on my Mac Pro, I'll be very glad to read it. I'm not really keen to send it to maintenance for several reasons, one being that after not even two years of age I still consider it a "recent" computer, the other being that with the holiday season coming up, I wouldn't like to see it go away for weeks!
One more thing I'm a freelance graphic designer, I've been working with Macs for more than 20 years and I take good care of my machines.
    Thank you for reading.

    Hi,
Well, I now can say that that's also what happened to my 8800 GT.
I finally received the ATI Radeon HD 4870 and after I've installed it, I was able to boot the Mac Pro on Windows (I got the PC version of the card so it needs to be flashed before it can be used with Mac OS X) and this time, everything went fine; I tried the games I've had problems with earlier and they all ran perfectly.
I then successfully flashed the Radeon so it's now compatible with Mac OS X and Windows, but I still have a power problem: the card is sold with two Molex-to-PCIe cables whereas only micro PCI-e connectors are available on the Mac Pro. There's the option to use the SuperDrive's Molex connectors but there're only two of them and four are supposedly required (see note below) to sufficiently power the card. This means the picture is scrambled in Mac OS X and when trying to boot on Windows, a blinking power error message is displayed onscreen and booting stops.
Note: in the Radeon manual, it says (with nice illustrations) that the card requires two full PCI-e cables and that Molex-to-PCI-e adapters aren't supported, *although the card is sold with two of these unsupported cables ONLY!* However, before flashing the card, Windows booted successfully with those two cables so I don't quite understand the logic behind all this...
Anyway, I've ordered the missing full PCI-e cable (I already have the one that came with the NVidia card) on eBay (amazingly, this cable is impossible to find in France!) When I receive it, I'll post a final message in this thread to let you know if my problems are now solved.
    Thanks for reading =)

  • Why does Quicktime freeze when opening .movs?

For the past few months, I have experienced intermittent screen "blackouts"; essentially the screen goes black as if the computer has gone into sleep mode (while still working in a given program) but there is nothing I can do but a hard shutdown to exit this state. Recently, both Quicktime and VLC have stopped working properly; I've discovered that Quicktime will open .AVI files, but freezes when opening .mov files. VLC will open neither. Both programs work fine when working with audio files. I have updated my mac's graphic drivers (to the best of my knowledge) and have worked around various preferences (open GL video output in VLC for instance) to no avail. My only remaining theory is a corrupt .mov codec file, or a compounding issue stemming from the initial screen blackouts (which I've discovered could be an actual hardware problem with mac pros sold around 2010..), but I feel it's time to outsource for some new solutions. I'm still running Snow Leopard 10.6.8; 2.66 GHz Intel core i7; 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3; MacBook Pro from 2010. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated, as I've researched for hours and have yet to find a solution or even a potential cause for these issues.

Here is the output from the Etrecheck program. It should be noted that I was only able to run this in Safe Mode. I've bolded the lines which were highlighted in red by the program.

I've run this by the folks from Cakewalk forums and had some suggestions to try but to no avail.
    http://forum.cakewalk.com/sonarstdexe-still-runs-after-I-close-and-exit-program-m2960813.aspx
There is nothing on this in google that I can find "wdmaud!CWAVRenderer::FreeResources+0x8f"
Just wondering if there is anything I can do to see if I can fix my system, others in the forum can't replicate this issue...
Would re-installing the audio driver help?  I don't want to do this unless I have to or if there are any other suggestions to try...
    Thanks in Advance
    Jim

    Hi,
There are no physical audio or midi devices attached.  I have HP ENVY 17 j005xt Notebook PC and has built-in audio HDT High Definition Audio CODEC sound card - and has the latest available drivers for this card already installed supplied by HP
    as OEM.

I installed iWork11 but the '09 versions of the software are still running--and the default. What do I need to do to get the '11 versions working?

It's very simple. If you want to use iPhoto, just let it manage things as it does. Other than that: Export from iPhoto and delete the image from iPhoto. That will remove the master and all versions.
If space is an issue... use an external disk.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

  • When I pause the sound still continues

When I pause the sound still continues. When will I test the movie in the timeline and use the timeline buttons not break the sound along with the image , it continues until it stops , the problem is that I have very long sounds and he plays to the end.

I'm guessing that the sound is embedded in the timeline. If this is the case, then select the keyframe where the sound starts and then, in the Properties window, set the Sync property for the selected sound to "Stream".

  • IPhoto 9.5 still running after updating to 9.6

    Hi,
I'm having a strange problem with updating iPhoto to 9.6.
The updage panel showed two available updates following the MacOS X recently upgraded: iMovie and iPhoto 9.6.
For some reasons, the upgrade buttons freezed to a gray color once clicked.
After a few attempts I decided to restart the machine, and updated Little Shitch.
From that point, I rapidly saw the iPhoto blue progress bar after reopening the update panel, and it rapidly moved to the downloaded updates section while the iMovie was still in the available upgrades section.
To make sure everything went fine, I opened iPhoto, clicked About and was surprised to see that the version was still 9.5 as opposed to version 9.6 supposedly installed from the update panel. Restarting the computer again didn't make any change.
From now, I have the update panel saying that version 9.6 is installed, except that version 9.5 is still running.
What should I do now in order to have the upgrade done again ? How should I backup my library to avoid potential loss ?
    Thanks.

First make sure you don't have two iPhoto apps on your hard drive.  Do a search for iPhoto.app and see what you get.  If there's only one and it's 9.5 move it to the Trash bin in the Dock (don't empty as yet), go to the App Store and download iPhoto 9.6 again.
The above is assuming you do have Yosemite installed.

  • MDT 2010 Deleted task still running

Hi Guys, I have been using MDT 2010 with Litetouch for deploying Windows 7 x64 clents for the last month. I have a main task sequence which does the deployment and a test task sequence for me to try new things out.
On the test task sequence I created custom task which deletes a desktop icon, the problem now is that even after I have deleted this task it still runs even though its not in the task sequence any longer.
Even when I create a new task sequence the deleted custom task still runs! This is very strange any ideas?

    Hi,
    it sounds impossible :)
I think the same action might have been configured in another step, or it might be added as a dependency on some application.
To verify, you could take a look at the xml files that descrive your applications and taks sequences in .\control.

  • Updated to LR 5.4, images now importing extremely slow. After importing and rendering images are still very slow to go through and develop. No issues in LR 5.3 which was very fast.

After importing and rendering images are still very slow to go through and develop. No issues in LR 5.3 which was very fast. Canon,Nikon, Leica and Fuji files all rendering slow. iMac 2.9 ghz 16gb RAM OSX 10.8.5. Catalogs and images are kept on external drives. Drives running fine. Really need a fix on this since I'm norally imported and processing at least 4,000 images per LR Catalog. Is there way to revert back to 5.3? I can't use 5.4 is its current state. Thanks.

Download LR 5.3 and install it
By the way, lots of people have this complaint about LR 5.4, and the advice I give is to use LR 5.3 unless you need one of the new camera models supported by LR 5.4

  • OK, if "root" is disabled why is root still running app?

A question for you UNIX gurus, or maybe I'm still paranoid. If the root user is disabled how can the root user still run stuff? In Activity Monitor I see "root" running all sorts of activities, all of which look like system activities (notifyd, securityd, memberd, etc.).
Perhaps someone can explain root a little more to me, and I can put my paranoia to rest. Or, more specifically, what users should I see or not see (windowserver, nobody, unknown, and all these other folks I see in NetInfo Manager)?
    TIA

    Bob
Saying "root is disabled" is really a shorthand for "the root account is disabled for login". Unix wouldn't work without root and these other users beavering away under the hood.
You should have all these system users on your machine (and maybe others if you have installed other software). This lists User ID (UID), short name, and full name:
    <pre>-2 nobody Unprivileged User
    0 root System Administrator
    1 daemon System Services
    99 unknown Unknown User
    26 lp Printing Services
    27 postfix Postfix User
70 www World Wide Web Server
    71 eppc Apple Events User
    74 mysql MySQL Server
    75 sshd sshd Privilege separation
    76 qtss QuickTime Streaming Server
    6 cyrusimap Cyrus IMAP User
    78 mailman Mailman user
    79 appserver Application Server
    82 clamav Clamav User
    83 amavisd Amavisd User
    84 jabber Jabber User
    85 xgridcontroller Xgrid Controller
    86 xgridagent Xgrid Agent
    87 appowner Application Owner
    88 windowserver WindowServer
    91 tokend Token Daemon
92 securityagent SecurityAgent</pre>Just let them get on with their job!

  • Intel iMac w/fresh install still runs like a single task machine

I did a fresh install of OSX Leopard, immediately followed by the Snow Leopard upgrade. Ran the Software Updater and installed all updates. My machine still runs one task ok, but forget about multi-tasking. I see the beach ball more often than not. I have run the Tech Tool (prior to the fresh install) and have checked the hard disk via the disk utiility. All say the machine is fine. It feels like one processor isn't functioning. I do have AppleCare, but hate dragging it up to the store if I don't have to. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you are doing fresh clean install, I don't see the need to go back to Leopard.
Reading between the lines, you have 2008 iMac with dual core? 1-2GB RAM?
As for TechTool, I'd upgrade to TechTool Pro 5.x that is compatible.
Nothing that sounds like hardware malfunction to me.
To test a hard drive, boot from another hard drive - you can verify but that isn't as helpful. And Disk Utility doesn't even find problems that can interfere.
Monitor Activity Monitor for what is going on.

  • Lightroom 1.1 still running out of memory

Last night I downloaded Lightroom 1.1. Unfortunately, it's still running out of memory. Interestingly, the out of memory message was upside down. Task Manager was reporting that LR was using 1.8GB. My machine has 4GB, so I'm not sure what the problem was.
    I'm running Windows XP w/SP 2.
    Jay

32bit apps usually can only access 2Gb of memory. Their address space is 2Gb. There are techniques that allow 32bit apps to access more than 2Gb of memory, known as AWE, but I seriously doubt Lr has something like that.
That could be the cause: LR was using 1.8Gb of memory, so it sounds certainly possible for it to get out of memory errors.
BTW: does Windows recognize the 4Gb of memory in your machine? IIRC, you could make it see up to 3Gb, but not more.

  • Still running with 0

I am still running with 0002 driver because 0004 is terrible for me... no sound at all or crackling popping sound, awful! The 0002 works with some games but with others i get a lot of blue screens and process has locked pages. When will there be a driver for me that works I can't beli've it's been over a year now and still no working driver Anyone knows of a working soundcard for Vista 64. I had it now, dammit Creative!

    From http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html :
The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode.
So it may be charging slowly via your computer's USB (and might be quicker if the iPad's screen is off), but you are better off using the wall charger.
