Quicktime has somehow become my default installer

Quicktime has somehow become my default installer how can I change this and make my installer my installer?
thanks!!!

Clcik on a file that wants to use QT, CMD+I, click on the drop-down menu in the Open with section, select the Installer.app, click on the Change all button, and close the window. Double-click on the file and it should open with the Installer.app. If not, reset the LaunchServices database as described in http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/resetlaunchservices.html

  • Hi folks I am new to computers why has sweetime become my default URL without me changing to it?

    Tonight whilst trying to watch live football on "vipstand" my URL changed to sweetime without me setting it as default search engine. How do I get back to my original user and is sweetime safe or a virus. I have Norton and have done a sweep to sort out any possible snags. Any help would be massively appreciated.

  • Is there any way to recover a file that has somehow become not a valid Photoshop Touch project?

    I have been working on a piece of art for the last month and all of a sudden when I went to open it this evening the app was unable to open the file. Please Help!

    Not good as that usually means the project itself was corrupt.
    Any chance you sync'd to Creative Cloud? That's the only way I know of that backs up your PS Touch (PSDX) files.

  • My "Remember passwords of sites" has somehow become disabled?

    I use a master password but for some reason the program does not allow me to select the "Remember passwords of sites" option. So the master password does no good. The click box and text are in a faded mode and inaccessible. What did I do to disable it, and how do I reverse it to get it back?
    Thanks,

    Check whether your in "Private Browsing Mode", disable it..

  • "Quicktime has stopped working"

    My problem began about two weeks ago when I tried to open iTunes, and it said "iTunes has stopped working." I uninstalled iTunes, and tried to reinstall it but there was an error with QuickTime. Now, when I try to open QuickTime it says "Quicktime has stopped working," and it will not let me uninstall it from my computer. I just want iTunes back, but I cannot have iTunes without QuickTime. =/

    Okay. Let's proceed on the assumption that it is just a badly broken QuickTime, then.
    Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
    Now launch the Utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
    Quit out of CleanUp and reboot the PC.
    Next we'll clear away the leftover program files and folders. (These are 64-bit system instructions, which differ a little from 32-bit system instructions.)
    Go "Start > Computer".
    In Computer, open "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your *program files* are stored on.
    Open the "Program Files (x86) Folder".
    Right-click on the QuickTime folder and select "Delete".
    Go back into "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your *operating system* is installed on.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "sysWOW64" folder.
    Right-click the QuickTime file and select "Delete".
    Right-click the QuickTimeVR file and select "Delete".
    Empty your Recycle Bin and restart the Computer.
    Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly? If so, do iTunes and QuickTime launch properly now?

  • Plug-in w/ different default installation option

    by default, when the java plug-in is installed in windows,
    the registry entry UseJava2IExplorer is set to 1.
    that is, the sun jvm becomes the default handler for
    the <APPLET> tag.
    i would like to be able to redistribute the plug-in but
    with a different default: keep the ms vm the default.
    (i don't want to manually change the default after installation)
    so i opened the cab file, and noticed the .inf file references
    http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/autodl/jinstall-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.xml
    here's a snippet:
    <jinstall>
    <configuration version="1.0">
    <jre language="English">
    <description>Java 2 Standard Edition...</description>
    <version>1.4.1_02</version>
    <url>http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/...</url>
    <options />
    </jre> ...
    </configuration>
    </jinstall>
    i want to know more about this file format. there's no dtd
    declaration or xml schema reference. might the <options>
    tag support something like:
    <option name="UseJava2IExplorer" value="0" /> ?
    i'd welcome any other ideas on how to override the default.
    the plug-in documentation mentions using a silent installation;
    i have two issues with this: [1] while recording, it seemed
    to skip the part in the wizard where it asks you which vm to
    default to; [2] how to go from a command line expression for
    installing the plug-in in silent mode to a packaged mechanism
    (maybe i should read the packagefortheweb documentation)
    thanks, eitan

    eitan,
    This is exactly what I would like to do as well.
    Have you by chance found a way to do this?
    Thanks in advance for any and all help!

  • IPhoto has somehow uninstalled itself, or I've done something wrong. If  try to open iPhoto, it gives me this message: "You can't open the application "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete. I have an iMac OS X. How do I reinstall iPhoto please

    iPhoto has somehow uninstalled itself, or I've done something wrong. If I try to open iPhoto, it gives me this message: "You can't open the application "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete". I have an iMac OS X. How do I reinstall iPhoto please?

    What is your iPhoto version and how did you install it originally?
    If it came with a new mac and Lion or Mt. Lion installed, you can delete iPhoto from the Applications folder (don't empty the Trash) and download it again from the "Purchased" tab of the App Store.
    If you have bought the iLife CD, reinstall iPhoto from the installation media, after deleting it from the Application folder.
    Or if your Mac came with an older MacOS X, but iLIfe preinstalled, use the system Install CDs,  see Terence Devlin's post here:  Re: My iPhoto isn't working. Error message says "you can't open the app "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete.
    Regards
    Léonie
    P.S: This may not only be a problem of a broken iPhoto. What did you do, directly before this happened? Did you run a program, that will clean the Mac to save space, like "Clean My Mac" or "Mac Keeper"? These little helpers can be risky and overdo it and remove too much. Then it might be safer to reinstall your system, because other essential files might be missing now.

  • 8.2.1 error message "iTunes + Quicktime" has an invalid signature.

    I am getting this error message when I am trying to download & install the 8.2.1 update. The entire message states "iTunes + Quicktime" has an invalid signature, it will not be installed. I saw another post started by Cfrolich, but it doesn't look like they got the problem fixed. Has anyone had this same error message? Can anyone help??

    I have not had this problem before but the latest update to iTunes + Quicktime, offered today, puts me in the same situation.
    The web is covered with reports of this issue over the years, always "iTunes + Quicktime has an invalid signature", but nothing I can see which is a good fix for the problem.
    Tried chkdisk, install manually doesn't work, the installer just keeps trying.
    Tried installing QT 7.6.4 independently from the Apple download page, that didn't help either.
    If this is so prevalent, why isn't there more on the main Apple site about it?

  • Quicktime has taken over Image Icons

    For some reason Quicktime has taken control of my image file icons and I can't seem to make the change stick when I go to Quicktime's preferences, use the default settings, confirm that the files I don't want QT to open are not checked and press the "Apply" button and "OK" the changes. When I close out of QT and immediately open it again to confirm the changes stuck, I find ALL still image files checked again, totally ignoring my changes.
    I have also gone to Folder Options control panel and confirmed that the image files I'm concerned about are set to open with Photoshop. The icon there shows the appropriate Photoshop icon.
    Anyone tell me what's going on here and how I stop this from happening?
    Thanks!

    Check out this Apple Support Communities thread -> after itunes install all icons(Explorer,Firefox,etc..) change to itunes icons icons
    Try Rebuilding the Icon Cache Database or applying the .lnk registry patch.

  • I have bought my MacBook since July 2011. It has now become frustratingly slow. What shall i do?

    I have bought my MacBook Pro since July 2011. It has now become frustratingly slow. I tried using the HELP key but did not seem to find any helpful information.  What shall i do?

    Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
    If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
    Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
    For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
    Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
    OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
    OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
    An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
    Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
      Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
      OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
      OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
      About file quarantine in OS X
    If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
    I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
    If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
    For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
        used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
        requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
    Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
    Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
    Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
    Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
    Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
    Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
    Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
    Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
    Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
    Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

    The sound modes on my Mac have somehow become reversed. Plugging my headphones in will result in incredibly loud volume (like speaker levels), and pulling them out makes the volume played through the speakers very soft-- it is even soft on the highest volume. What's going on? Please help.

    iTunes Radio is currently only avaliable in United States.
    The Apple.com site usually defaults to the U.S version of the site.
    On a side note, if you are located in the United States, please try rebooting your phone, signing into your Apple ID and launch the music app.

    I get an error "iTunes   QuickTime" has an invalid signature. • ITunes & Quicktime has an invalid signature. The program has been removed

    When I try to update itunes through the apple software update, i get error message 'itunes and quicktime has an invalid signature. the program has been removed.'
    When I go to download from the apple website.. it downloads 10% and then stops.
    I have tried downloading through google chrome, firefox and IE, I have tried to delete my temp file, And I have also gone into internet options and ticked 'allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid'.
    Nothing is working!!! Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Okay. Try downloading and saving the installer onto a different PC. Copy the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) onto a USB key or thumb drive or other external drive (or even burn it to a CD) and then carry it to your PC. Copy the installer onto your internal hard drive, and then start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe).
    (If we can get a working copy of the installer onto a PC, installs will usually go through without the invalid-signature/not-valid-win32/unknown-publisher/etc errors.)
