I have an Imac 800Mhz PPC G4 with OSX 4.11 installed, THANKS! Quicktime help needed?

Thanks for your kind reply Quicktime Kirk!  Thanks in advance to anyone who replies to this as well. I have heard that what I need is an older Quicktime Version that allows for saving files, etc. But apple does not support it & I should look elsewhere - hence my appeal on this forum. Also, for some reason, when I try to upgrade to Quicktime Pro my browser  (both Safari & Firefox) quits as I am about to complete my purchase. In any event, the real question is this: would the Quicktime Pro upgrade be compatible with my current system?

  • I can't open iTunes or quicktime, help!

When I try to open quicktime or iTunes, the little black arrow appears for a few seconds under the icon on my dock and then quits and says "The application Quicktime/ iTunes quit unexpectedly". I've had several mac problems and I'm getting VERY frustrated. PLEASE HELP.

The KB article"Mac OS X 10.3.9, 10.4: Some Apple applications don't open" might help to solve your problem.

If the problems were software related and Archive and Install can solve them.

Try running this program and remove any old QuickTime installer configuration that shows up in there. Then try running the QT installer again.

Thank you so much for your response. Whew that took a good 2 hours. I finally got it fixed. After the failed attempts to uninstall quicktime I found this:
*1. Go to C:\Program Files, then delete the entire QuickTime folder.*
*2. Click Start - Find/Search - All Files And Folders, select the hard drive ( C: ) to look in, type in QuickTime, then click Find/Search. when the list of files appear, right-click on and delete all the ones that you confirm are associated with QuickTime.*
*3. Click Start - Run, type in REGEDIT, then click OK. Click the + in:*
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE
    Software
*In the Software sub-menu, right-click directly on the Apple Computer entry, then click Delete - Yes.*
*(Note: If you click the + in the "Apple Computer" entry, you'll see "QuickTime" listed there)*
Then I tried uninstalling again and it worked. Then I installed an earlier quicktime and took out itunes and installed itunes 7.4. Everything works fine now. Thanks again though!!

  • ITunes + Quicktime help needed!

okay so Quicktime uses up a lot of space on my hard drive and I only have it because its required for iTunes (the only media player I use). My music library is like 30+ gb and since I am a college student with no money to purchase an external harddrive for my 40gb labtop, I am forced to uninstall every program I can (and I've used up all my options)..
SO my question is this: what is the bare minimum tools, software, (whatever), etc. that I need to have in order to satisfy the iTunes requirements? AND is there any way to uninstall the components that I don't need/use? (and I don't need anything video related at all because I obviously don't have space for them anyway)
Whoever can help, if you can help, or if it even CAN be helped, please do.. I'm desperate and I love my music/music library.

    Petey G,
I had success in uploading iT6 andd QT7 after performing the following steps. Good luck ...
    Hey troubled Podheads,
I was one of the legion with problems in downloading iTunes6 and QT7 for Windows until I tried something (I must say that I am not a pc wizard and I don't know the technical reasons for why the following worked, it just did! So if there are any pc geeks out there, be sure to chime in). Anyway, this is what I did. First uninstall QuickTime if you do have it on your pc. If not, just go to the next step:
Go to START, then RUN. Type in regedit and then click OK. Your REGISTRY EDITOR should open. You should see HKEYLOCALMACHINE in the scroll down menu on the left, with a small box to its left. Make sure that the inside of the box has a negative sign - this will open up the next set of subfolders. Next, make sure that the subfolder, SOFTWARE, has a negative sign in the small box to its left. Next, make sure that there is a negative sign in the box next to the subfolder entitled, Apple Computer, Inc. You'll see at least three subfolders: iPod, iTunes and QuickTime. Click once on the QuickTime folder until it is highlighted and then delete it. You will be asked if you want to delete QuickTime and its subfolders. Click ok and then close out the Registry Editor.
Next, download the stand alone QuickTime 7 at this link (you may have to cut and paste this link to open this website):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
When you download the stand alone QT7, you may get a couple of error messages (I did), but if you repeatedly click ok (like I did), the QT7 player should load with no problems.
Again, I am no pc geek, but this worked for me and I have gained access to iTunes6 (with video capacity) and my complete library is intact. Nothing like trial and error!! Good luck -- I hope this works for all of you frustrated Podheads out there!

  • Can't install, uninstall or run QuickTime - help!

About three weeks ago my QuickTime all of a sudden stopped working.
When I try to play something, I get the following error message: "An error occurred inside a plug-in contained on this page".
Then the following message comes up: "The plug-in did not initialize properly".
I get a picture of a film strip with a broken section through it.
When I try to uninstall Quicktime from my computer, I get the following message: "Fatal error during installation".
I can't uninstall it, and I can't re-install it. I can't repair it or change it or remove it from the computer. Everything else on my computer seems to be working just fine.
Any ideas? I appreciate your help!!!

    replying to Shisou
I recently installed ACE codec version 6.3.911.0, i had a suspicion (sp) that this is what was causing the problem, but the codec pack is great so i'm hoping there's a work around.
it's our prime suspect at the moment.
the runtime problems arise when the codec packas contain componentry/codecs for earlier versions of QuickTime than the minimum version needed for iTunes to run. the iTunes 7.1.x versions required at least a QT 7.1.5 (up from QT 7.1.3 for the iTunes 7.0.x versions), so we got a fresh round of the codec pack businesses with that.
(now of course, with QT 7.1.6 on the scene, i daresay we might start having some trouble with Codec packs that just contain QT 7.1.5 codecs and componentry.)
the best thing to do first would be trying to uninstall the Codec pack. if QuickTime (and therefore iTunes) is still not running after that, try seeing if an uninstall/reinstall of QuickTime now goes through (without the fatal error). if it does, does QuickTime start working again?

  • Need Quicktime help!

Ok, so i imported the All That Remains DVD into my computer, with no problems and it was saved as an MP4 file, with no tracks, chapters, and the menus are gone, etc..... I made sure to import the actual concert only, and i did.....but thats not my problem.
My problem is that i use Quicktime Pro 7.4 to try to divide up the DVD into the songs and then i do that and it saves as a .mov file. After i play the .mov file it works just fine(as expected) so i assumed everything was ok...
So i converted the .mov files back to .mp4 so that they would go onto my ipod and when i did that i played the video to make sure all was well....and all was not well. It turned out that the video played 10 seconds before the original file that i trimmed down.
For example, if i trimmed a dvd down to start at 00:01:17, and then saved it as a .mov file, it would play in quicktime fine, but if i played the .mov file (before and after the .mp4 conversion) in any other media player(such as Windows Media Player, or Itunes, etc..) then the video would start at 00:01:07, in stead of 00:01:17.
Since the video starts early, and there is no pause on the audio this creates severe audio and video sync. problems.
Now i really dont want to generate silence for the first 10 seconds of every song, so is there anyway that i can fix this?
I've tried doing other things such as exporting the video to AVI or to IPOD, instead of doing Save As, but when i did this the video quality severely went down, and the audio would skip.
    Somebody please help me.

So do I. The more upgrades my machine downloads the less works properly. I've got a Nano iPod here which wont talk to my iTunes. A 40g 2nd generation iPod which tries to upgrade everytime I connect it only to fail and most frustating of all...
    Quicktime wont work online anymore.
Any animated site I go to redirects me to a plug in page. Which wont load on my system. No more pop videos or movie trailers for me.
I know the simple answer is buya new OS. But is there any other fix?

  • Need major quicktime help

I just purchased my mac book... It says I have "Quick Time Player 10" installed. I tried to install Quick Time 7 but it won't let me. I just purchased the Quick Time Pro upgrade because I need it to convert my WMV videos. There is no play to put in my registration code. I need help! I don't know what I'm doing wrong. In the end I need Quick time pro (which I just purchased). P.S. When I launch my quick time player no window appears... I don't know if that matter or not.

Ok... So I installed quicktime 7 off of the disk that came with my mac. I already purchased quicktime pro and received a confirmation email and I'm trying to register it so I can start using it. I go to the quicktime pro registration and put in my name and my registration code... There is a button that says purchase quicktime pro (which I already did). There is no other options to select. How do I register it so I can download quicktime pro? Thanks for all of your help! I'm getting kind of frustrated because I feel like I'm not going to be able to get it onto my mac even though I already purchased it. Thanks again.

  • Render disc Flipbook to Quicktime, HELP!

I have just finsihed chapter 2 of my 'Apple Pro Training' book on shake 4.
The book has told me after finishing my composite, to 'right click' on the 'FilmGrain' node and choose, Render - Render Disc Flipbook.
Then you get the 'pre-rendering' progress bar whilst the shake quicktime viewer opens, then NOTHING!
Can someone please help or is this a bug?
    Thanks

Just to clarify, you are on Mac OS X, right? The Linux version doesn't support disk-based Flipbooks.
Which version of QuickTime are you using, and which version of Shake?

  • Quicktime help, wont work for some things

ok, so I can view videos just fine on quicktime.com and such, however I am a filmmaker and i put my videos on such sites as vMix.com, and Myspace, however all that comes up with my vidoe is the Quicktime Q logo with a ? in the middle of it. All my friends say they can view it fine, but I cant view it at all. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didnt do anything. Help would be greatly appreciated

Not all media formats can be viewed by all players or plug-ins. The vMix pages appear to be using Flash (.swf) formats.
Download and install Flash Player for your PC (free).
It may already be installed, however, and you have set the QT plug-in to try and open this format. Easy fix.
Open the QuickTime Control Panel and look for the tab that allows you to edit the "MIME Settings". Remove the check mark for Flash Media and quit and relaunch your browser for these changes to take effect. Try the page again and the Flash Player plug-in should display the file.

  • ITunes and QuickTime help please?

I bought some videos in the iTunes Store and they play perfectly fine in iTunes but when I try to play them in the QuickTime Player, the video is slow with still images and a green or black screen. I just hear the audio but the video is messed up. Can you please help me? I don't think there is a problem with the video or audio format because I bought the videos from iTunes. Maybe my computer just doesn't have enough power to play the videos perfectly. Please help and thanks in advance! And remember, I have Windows Vista Home Premium.

  • "Unable to uninstall old version of Quicktime" - HELP PLEASE!

I am trying hard to install iTunes 7 on my PC and when running the installer it tries to uninstall the old version of quicktime and it cannot. I uninstalled it manually through the control panel, but it said some parts could not be removed. iTunes 7 still will not install. Is my PC messed up or, though iTunes 7 is released, is it just not at the stage where we want to be installing it? Should I wait for an updated version?
As well, the iTunes installer installed Apple Updater. I ran it, and it said my programs were up to date, which is not true seeing as iTunes 7 is not installed.
    Please help!

Just goto the control panel and remove/uninstall all listings for iTUnes AND quicktime.
Go here at microsoft and install the windows cleanup utility http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
Once installed goto start>all programs>Windows cleanup
Remove each listing of iTUnes one at a time, For example if theres 2 or more listings of iTUnes, highlight ONE and click remove, then highlight the seconnd one and remove it ect ect
Do the same for all listings of quicktime
Now scan the system for malware with Ewido http://www.ewido.com
After that disable your antivirus and security programs then head to apple.com to download and install itunes
