Quicktime Importer Component Missing

Hello,
I think that this is posted on the correct forum but if not I apologise.
I am having a problem running games (namely 'The Sims 2' and 'Nanosaur 2') and I think it's something to do with Quicktime.
I have tried reinstalling OS X, updating all the software I can, installing the latest patch for The Sims 2, reinstalling The Sims 2 on numerours occasions in different places, reinstalling the latest Quicktime, creating a new user and trying from there, installing OS 9 Classic, installing Quicktime 4 and 5 under Classic mode and installing CarbonLib 1.2 and 1.3 (though I couldn't install either CarbonLib because it said I didn't need them). Nothing seems to work.
When attempting to open Nanosaur 2, after OKing the graphics detail selector window the screen briefly goes to black then comes back to the desktop with the message-
"DrawPictureIntoGWorld: GetGraphicsImporterForFile failed! One of Quicktime's importer components is missing. You should install OS X to fix this."
Then when I click OK, it briefly goes to black and it gives me this message-
"SetMetaObjectToPicture: DrawPictureIntoGWorld failed!"
The Sims 2 displays the 'EA Games' logo, doesn't display the 'Maxis' logo (instead displays a small red X in the top left of the screen), shows the 'aspyr' logo and the start up video then dumps me back onto the desktop (briefly at a low resolution (maybe 640x480) then clicking back into my normal 1440x900). It then just brings up a 'This application quit unexpectedly' message.
I believe these 2 errors to be related so maybe a problem with Quicktime rendering or something (I know nothing about these types of things).
Is there anywhere to get individual Quicktime importer components or any way to fix this problem. Everything else seems to work fine.
Simon.

I think the designers page may hold better answers to your troubles.
First trouble is that most of these games can only be played from the "device" (CD/DVD) and also include their own QuickTime playback "engine".
So. Your installed version of QuickTime may not be the one used for playback.

    Hi,
Have you checked in any of the changes done by you, then you can switch to a new workspace and sync to the latest sources.
Else try to close the project, then close and ide reopen the IDE and open project. try a relaod.

  • Bought QuickTime MPEG2 component - "installed" but it's not there

I just bought the MGEG2 component and ran the installer - it said it was going on my hard drive, ran the progress bars, etc., and even gave a nice cheery "installaiton Successful" announcement with an attractive green check mark,  Too bad it didn't do jack for QT's ability to open files.
When I look in my (hard drive)/Library/QuickTime/  directory, it's not there.
It should have a resource filenamed "QuickTime MPEG2.component" (everything there is for audio (AC3), Div6, Perian, Flip4Mac and the Save as AVI component from MPEG Streamclip.)
Antbody understand why it's not where it should be?
    Reference info:
    OS 10.6.7
    QT Pro 7.6.6
    MacBookPro (Intel 2 GHz)
    component installer v. 7.6
(creation date Jan 14, 2009)  <- too old?

    1) What part of their MP4 doesn't my version of QuickTime understand?  (It reads a lot of mpeg-4s, what does it need to know?)
You have two different facets here.
The first is MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) video multiplexed with AC3 audio wrapped in an M2TS, MPG, or MPEG file container. This has many problems. On the one hand the video is MPEG-4 and so the QT MPEG-2 Playback component cannot decode it but it is wrapped in an file container that is basically telling QT to use the QT MPEG-2 Playback component for video playback (i.e., much the same as why VLC considers the content MPEG-1/2 data because that is what both media players expect even though VLC can actually handle the audio and video data in this wrapper). On the other, QT is not natively compatible with AC3 audio and cannot play it natively even if it was able to "demux" the blocks of audio and video data properly and synchronize the two to a common external time reference which is the basis for QT media technology. (I.e., The wrapper being used is based on spatial synchronization of audio and video data interspersed in a single data stream rather than the temporal synchronization of up to 99 parallel data tracks normally used by QT—a basic difference in player technology akin to trying to play a BD disc in a CD player.) Normally, the way around this problem is to use iMovie '08, '09, or '11 to import your content. iMovie contains a special import/converter module to handle this content. Basically, it converts the AVCHD video to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec), converts the AC3 audio to resampled linear PCM (AIFF) and applies timing offsets as may be needed to ensure synchronization between audio and video content. This data is then wrapped in the generic QT MOV file container making the files compatible with any/all QT based applications. Unfortunately, the special module cannot be used by files already imported to your hard drive at the "Finder" file level.
As to MP4 (SD MPEG-4, Chapter 2) content, these files may or may not be compatible with QT depending on how the audio is encoded, the file container actually used, and/or how your system is actually configured with QT components. In most cases, making the content compatible may be as easy as doing nothing, to changing the file extension or copying the data to a real MOV file container to using MPEG Streamclip to convert/handle the audio content.
    2) Why does VLC show the file properties as MPEG-1/2?
Like QT, when VLC sees the wrapper file extension, it "assumes" the file contains a specific type (or range) of data types and reports accordingly. The main difference here, is that VLC can actually play the AVCHD data natively while QT cannot.
By the way the MPEG-2 description jived with a review - CNET, I think -  which I'd read online.  No doubt this will provoke another one of those explanations that always boil down to "you don't understand, the wrapper isn't telling you what's in the files"  responses.  Is there a tool for telling what the thing actually is?
Interpretations can sometimes be confusing. HDV content can also be described or reported as MPEG-1/2 content since it is sometimes described as DV100 encoded data wrapped in an MPEG-2 file container. As to what is actually in a file container and utilities to read them, there are a number of such available as free downloads. Unfortunately, many will have the same problem with MPEG/MPG containers if they bother to read them at all but do really well with other file containers. Since most of the content I deal with is MOV, MP4, and/or M4V, I tend to use the free VideSpec and/or Dumpster utilities. In my case I am more worried about MPEG-4 Profiles and Levels, entropy encoding modes, fourCC identifications, key frame frequency, key frame data rates, how the data is distributed between key frames, and the like when trouble shooting problems and most of my dealings with AVCHD are limited to the conversion of DVR/BD content to TV2 compatible content since I don't even own an AVCHD camcorder (and still prefer HDV for editing purposes).
The broader question remains - is QuickTime meant to be general purpose, at least as a player?
No, it isn't. As previously stated, QT technology is based on temporal synchronization of multiple parallel data tracks (up to 99) to a common reference clock and not spatial synchronization by interspersing of blocks of data within a single stream or the interleaving of data frames (which QT can handle because the data is only out of sync by one half-frame per n-1 tracks). This is great if you mask, layer, window, etc. content within a single player but severely limits QT compatibility with older and/or currently competing technologies. In short, pick your player/converter based on the technology used in the source file and not because you think QT should be an all purpose, one size fits all multimedia utility. If FLV Crunch meets your needs, then by all means use it.
I took some similar files I got from a recent model Canon to a video professional's (family) and they couldn't be read by a current version of FinalCut Pro.
Which model Canon? Which "current" version of FCP, the suite or the new FCP X release? Do you have a short snippet you can upload for examination? Have yet to research the pros and cons of the latest release but plan to do so next month if/when I have the time. (I.e., users seem to either really love it or really hate it.)
PC video straightforward, Mac a colossal hassle until you find the right 3rd party application: does that sound wrong to anybody else?
If you opt to use an import work flow that preserves the QT file incompatibilities instead of a work flow that ensures QT playback, conversion, and editing compatibilities, is it the fault of the software or the user?

  • How To create a maintenance project - logical component missing?

    Hi experts,
we plan to activate ChaRM in our Landscape.
We don't have created a maintenance project in solution_manager cause there is a logical component missing.
I followed the instructions of the tutorial on  https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700006932702005E.sim (Creation of a maintenance project).
I recognized there is the logical component "ZCHANGE REQUEST MANAGEMENT" missing.
This seems to be a modified origin SAP Component.
Does anyone know where to find these component?
Maybe with informations what has to be changed for the Z*copy or is this only a 1:1 copy?
Does anyone have a detailed document for configuring ChaRM on SolMan 7.0 (Mailadress is visible on my business card)
    thanks in advance
    kind regards
    Thomas
Helpful answers/documents will be rewarded, surely!

You need to set up your solution and therefor define a logical component in SMSY. For instance the logical component might consist of your ERP E, Q and P systems.
This logical component is added to an SMI Project. It basically tells the SMI project which systems are involved in the process. After that you will have to create an IMG project, CTS project, release the SMI project to the Change Request Management and generate Maintenance Cycle and Task List (this is all being done in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN).

  • When importing tracks from a CD to iTunes, only 10 of the 13 songs are imported or shown on the list. How can I import the missing three?

When importing tracks from a CD to ITunes, only 10 of the 13 songs are imported. How can I display and import the missing three? Thanks.

It depends on eaxactly what is wrong with the old laptop. If you're lucky the drive can be extracted and connected to a new computer to extract the data. Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Mapping Runtime Component Missing !

    Hi
We have an XI 3.0 server installed (SP4) . We could not see the "Mapping Runtime" component listed in the Component list of Integration Server(We could see this component missing when we log into RWB).
Also we are facing errors when we try to test the interface mappings we have designed. We suppose this could be attributed to the above issue.
Any pointers/clarifications on the same is appreciated
    Thanks
    Saravana

    Hi,
can you go to SP9, as there are more problems solved for XI, e.g. we had cache issues before.
Did you check SXMB_MONI to see at which step it fails?

  • Itunes import only missing tracks

When I imported my CD library into iTunes, I had limited disk space, so I only imported tracks that I like. Now that I have a larger hard drive, I'd like to import the rest of those tracks. Is there any easy way to import only missing tracks, leaving the previously-imported tracks (and their ratings and play counts) alone? If I have to manually check each album to see which tracks are already existing, it'll be a huge undertaking.

Just reimport the entire CD. It'll ask if you want to replace the tracks already imported.
    Click Yes.
This won't change anything (playcounts, ratings) or anything else.

  • Segmenting Quicktime Export Component jobs

so I have a question about segmenting Compressor jobs. When I submit a job to our cluster using a normal quicktime preset the job will be segmented between the various machines, each machine chewing on a different chunk. However when I submit a job using a Quicktime Export Component (in this case flip4mac WMV export) only one machine will chew on it. Is this a function of Quicktime Components in general, or flip4mac in particular? Anybody know?
    thanks
    gary

I don't believe that is supported. QT export components are 3rd party stuff, and without intimate knowledge of the codec I wouldnt think Compressor could distribute it. You are basically just using QT when you use the export components.

  • Quicktime MPEG-2 component missing

Hi, I've purchased MPEG-2 component a long time ago but it's now gone from my hard disk, got a receipt and everything, but unfortunately it's not in my purchase history (its span being only 18 months) - how am I able to redownload the codec without buying it again? Whom should I contact?
Please don't ask me to find the appropriate helpdesk email or phone number, as the Apple web site is a mess and really not too helpful, I wouldn't be writing this here otherwise.
    Thanks for understanding my agony.

I've purchased MPEG-2 component a long time ago but it's now gone from my hard disk
Where did you look for it?
got a receipt and everything, but unfortunately it's not in my purchase history (its span being only 18 months)
My original purchase was back in 2002 and the last update is still available in my download area. (I believe QTKirk's purchase even pre-dates my own and was still available to him the last time someone asked this same question.)
how am I able to redownload the codec without buying it again? Whom should I contact?
You would have to contact Customer Service (i.e., Apple Store Customer Service 1-800-676-2775). Be sure to have a copy of your receipt handy when you call as they will probably need both your account and purchase information.

  • Flat File Import, Ignore Missing Columns?

The text files I'm importing always contain a fixed set of columns for example total number of full set of columns is 60, or a subset of those columns (some csv contain 40 columns, some contain 30 or 20 or any other number.) .  I would like to import
these csv based on the column header inside the each csv, if it is a subset of full column set then the missing columns can be ignored with null value.
At the moment in SQL 2012, if I import a subset of columns in the csv file, the data doesn't import...I assume because the actual file doesn't include every column defined in the flat file source object?
Is it possible to accomplish this without dynamically selecting the columns,  or using script component?
    Thanks for help.
    Sea Cloud

If the columns coming are dynamic, then you might have to first get it into staging table with a single column reading entire row contents onto that single column and parse out the column information using string parsing logic as below
    http://visakhm.blogspot.in/2010/02/parsing-delimited-string.html
This will help you to understand what columns are present based on which you can do the insertion to your table.

  • Quicktime, importing, exporting

I recently upgraded my system and re-installed Premiere Pro CS6, moved my video hard drives over and opened the working files I had started on my old system. On my first install I had a codec error, which I resolved (https://forums.adobe.com/message/5020132) but now it will not read, import the video portion or give me an option to export in QuickTime.
Any ideas or something I missed?
    Thank you!

    John,
I just re-installed and activated again, hoping that was the case. However it still will not let me import certain videos files, read the video portion of others already in my timeline or export in QuickTime. Could I be missing a plug in I am not considering? These files worked fine on my previous computer. Thanks for the idea and the link.
