Quicktime in browsers

Hey all, in looking on here, I found a thread from someone named garret whom had similar problems with IE and QT embedded files/images.
I have the same issue, but with IE6 and Firefox 1.5 on my WINDOWS box, runing XP. It worked for a time, but now, it doesn't.
I just updated my flash to ver9, and made sure it was in the plugin's folder on both and in QT to no avail.
I have not done Shockwave, is that something I need to be concerned with on Windows boxes? I know Shockwave has not been ported to intel macs yet but what about Windows?
Any other suggestions out there?
Thanks.

Ok, it was really frustrating, but it has "fixed itself" which makes me think that it was something at Apple's QuickTime site that was broken and made my QuickTime break. It's working now. Hrmmm.

Where do it start, iTunes 7.1.3 is a bomb! I changed my quicktime settings in preferences, audio, to safemode, rate:32khz, size:16bit, channels: Stereo, Music Syntheszisor: general midi and the hissing, garbling is somewhat better. But, if you use any other application the sound again distorts. Major issue.

  • Quicktime won't work in browser?

Recently i've been getting this picture while visiting some sites:
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=6cqgpr4
It's quite annoying. it doesn't appear in the whole screen, just certain parts. For instance i got it while on www.megaupload.com

After installing the Quicktime update browsers Safari and Firefox don't recognize objects on certain webpages. Go to pandora.com or finetune and the objects on the page will not be recognized by the updated Quicktime release. I use both of these music websites daily. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Quicktime Stream Artifacts when Tabbed

I am viewing live video streams using Quicktime. When I change tabs back and forth to the stream video, the video artifacts with squares that slowly resolve back into what is currently on the stream. I am getting these same results from Firefox, IE, and Chrome. I am using a computer with Windows 7. All software is fully updated.
Previous to this, I have been able to switch tabs and view video on different tabs at the same time with no consequence. At that time I was using Windows XP. My Windows XP laptop is currently able to switch tabs without video artifacts appearing.
I need to be able to monitor video streams on multiple browser tabs without the video artifacting occurring. My connection speed is 26.46 Mb/s download 6.93 Mb/s. I am hoping this is just a setting issue with quicktime or browsers.

I had the same issue. Just reimporting did the trick. I started doing smaller batches and never deleting after import so that I can check quality. I also tried setting the phone to airplane mode, thinking that perhaps it's busy with other activities and that this disrupts the transfer.
All in all, I'm not sure of the cause, but reimporting will fix it for sure.

  • Is there a workaround for moving. videofiles to Sansa Fuze

    Hi all
I have bought a Sansa fuze 4 gb to my wife as a christmas gift. Musik and photo are Ok to just drag and drop. But videofiles needs to be converted in order to be loaded at the player. And Sansa has its converter just for windows.
Is there a way to go around this matter? Can I rename them or?

There was a player known as VLC and it was a free-running video
software that could convert and/or run most file types. Used to be
called Video LAN or something? I don't remember exactly; but I
removed a version from one of my older Mac OSX systems.
Changing the name won't change what's in the file, so that isn't
as easy as it could be; there's more involved.
Can iMovie see those kinds of files? I am not sure if there is a
converter built into that or not; I've never used iMovie.
{Oh, if your computer is running the 10.4.1 system as noted in
the signature line of your post, you may wish to see about an
update to 10.4.11 and that would include also getting a newer
Java, QuickTime, several browsers (free) and a Combo 10.4.11
update file, & perhaps the last Security Update. And be sure
to repair disk permissions, maybe even boot into SafeBoot at
some intervals and use disk utility to repair them, during the
    installation processes for these update bits; if not at 10.4.11.}
There may be some support links and information forums for
the Sansa product, but I have been reading about a few issues
some owners of a few Sansa items have experienced; in a few
cases, the support at Sansa isn't what it could be. (Lacking.)
    In any event...

  • Upgrading from Jaguar to Tiger

    Hello,
I'm hoping that some brilliant individual will be able to help me with this "situation." I am trying to upgrade a good family friend's eMac to Tiger from Jaguar 10.2.8 (technically they meet the Leopard requirements, but I think that Tiger would run better with the setup that they currently have). Like a good boy, I want to back up their hard drive before I upgrade. This is where the problems begin. They don't have an external hard drive and the cd/dvd drive is read only for dvds. I brought over my Iomega external drive, but it would not show up when I connected it to their computer, either with firewire or with USB (the system profiler recognized and knew what it was, but I could not access the drive anywhere - I'm not really sure why). The one backup program that I found that still worked with Jaguar could not recognize the external drive either and it would not let me backup to the internal drive. I don't really want to spend forever backing up their stuff onto cds. They have around 18 gigs of stuff on their hard drive, although not all of that needs to be saved. Target disc mode does not work between my model of macbook and the eMac according to Apple (I tried it - turns out they were right). Will the migration assistant work? I've thought of buying an external DVD burner, since I am interested in owning one myself. Is there one out there that will work with this eMac and my macbook? Any other ideas? A flash drive would work, but also would be tedious. I was hoping to be able to let a backup utility do its thing and not have to manually back-up this drive. Anyone?

At least with the eMac in FW TDM and attached with the correct cable
to the newer Intel-based Mac, you could use the optical drive in the
newer Mac to archive larger size files than with a CD-RW drive in eMac.
    Few if any Jaguar-based items would really do all that well in Tiger;
and the few that could be OK (AppleWorks 6, etc) could be extracted
from the Jaguar-based original eMac install-restore disc set through
the use of the utility Pacifist in its demo mode and installed in Tiger.
For that much trouble, if one needed an office-like suite, get NeoOffice.
It does word-like stuff and spreadsheet, & so on; it's a free download.
The external drive may show up in the eMac's Disk Utility; if it does, that
may be a time to see if it can be partitioned and formatted for Mac. If not
already. The newer Macs may offer a different format than the eMac is
comfortable in using; since Intel-based Macs can use different schemes.
You could see if the external drive can be used by the Intel-Mac for moved
content from the FireWire TDM-booted eMac, to be archived on the external.
Anyway, sounds like fun. The easiest thing would be upgrading the eMac RAM.
(In Tiger, after upgrading to 10.4.11, be sure to get all the Java upgrades, the
last Security Update, Quicktime, new browsers, Adobe Shockwave + Flash,
Adobe Reader, and consider a few widgets such as iStat Pro, and DashQuit.
The OnyX version for Tiger is a good utility from Titanium Software, too.
The system discs which shipped with the Intel-based computer won't work in
the PPC computer; nor will other model's specific disc sets. You'd need retail 10.4.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Getting Quicktime Plug-in's to work on PC browsers

Made my site on iWeb, things look fine on the mac for firefox & safari, transferred everything to test on the PC, firefox wouldn't play the quicktime videos I have in blog and page, same problem with IE 8. I downloaded newest version of Quicktime for PC off Apple site...installed... tried again.... problem continues on PC browsers. Did I miss something?

    Hi Wouter,
My first question would be what software build you are running on your 5508 controllers?  Also, is multicast properly configured on the wired side for bonjour?

  • Disable quicktime plug-in opening TIF files in browsers?

Whenever I click on a TIF file in a browser (Chrome or Safari), Quicktime plug-in tries to open the file. I'd rather have the file opened by an application that actually works (quicktime fails to load or displays garbage in most cases, but I do not care - I just want it gone) or just downloaded without opening (preferred). Rightclicking to opt for download is not an option on the sites I use. In windows I could disable it via Quicktime icon in Control Panel, but I cannot find a comparable thing on the Mac. This is unbelievably frustrating. It cost me more than the Macbook itself in lost productivity...

I already have TIFF files set to open with Preview. Nonetheless, USPTO.GOV website image files are all in TIFF format and it renders a broken plugin error in all browsers (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Firefox). Opera is actually the only browser that gives me the option to download the file, but that is cludgey. Anyone get it to actually work as a plugin?

  • Quicktime movie looks different in different browsers.  Is there a fix?

I have an H.264 Quicktime movie (and will be making versions with the Sorenson Video 3 codec, WMV compatible files, and FLV as well), and it looks the way I want it to look in Firefox for Mac and Firefox for Vista. In Safari and Internet Explorer, the blacks are washed out and it looks less saturated (though this is probably due to the image being washed out).
Is there anything I can do? I know Safari reads color profiles now, but I don't know how to add that to a Quicktime movie, and that wouldn't fix the problem with IE (or, curiously, Firefox on XP). If I drop the blacks enough to make it look good in Safari and IE, it will be too dark for Firefox users. Firefox appears to be the one displaying it "properly" (how it looks in FCP and the stand-alone Quicktime player).

It is indeed tricky. I've spent a lot of time over the last few months trying to figure it all out and still can't wrap my head around it all. That's due in large part because there's a lot of misinformation out there.
Thanks for the article. It's interesting because I too set my monitor to 2.2 gamma (sRGB) but for the purpose of working on this project had reverted it to 1.8 (Cinema Display default), and it's been there for a long time now. It is interesting, but it didn't solve my problem.
My problem is different browsers show a Quicktime differently. Now that I've switched to 2.2, Firefox looks too dark and Safari looks just right (where as before Firefox looked just right and Safari was washed out). Is there or is there not an option to include a color profile with Quicktimes? If not, I'll have to make a compromise, and I'd rather have one that looks great across all high-end monitors (meaning an expensive Dell or Apple monitor on OSX, WXP, and WV).
Does anyone know what in particular is making the two browsers display Quicktimes differently?

  • Quicktime update 7.15 crashes all browsers when loading streaming players

Right after I've installed the update, all browsers (Firefox, Safari, Omniweb) will crash when trying to load a page with streaming content. • Quicktime pages kill my browsers

    hey there,
since updating with the newest security update webpages with quicktimes embedded in shut down my browsers (safari, camino, firefox2).
when the 'report to apple' window comes up the last 2 lines of the log point to this:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.plugin/Contents/MacOS/QuickTime Plugin
    0x9a976000 - 0x9a97efff com.apple.ScreenSaver 1.5.1 /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Versions/A/ScreenSaver
    0x9be02000 - 0x9be02fff libmx.A.dylib /usr/lib/libmx.A.dylib
for one, i don't know why it would goto the screensaver framework. the other is the lib file. i think this is the file that kills my browser. it's always the last line in the reports.
what is this file and how do i fix it? i've repaired permissions to no effect. it's repeatable, consistently.
any ideas? if more info is needed, just let me know and i'll post it.
    thanks for the help!

  • Quicktime 7.1.1 update disabled sound in browsers

Anyone else notice this problem? It might be coincidence but I no longer have audio for any plugin in Safari and Firefox since recently updating my QuickTime to 7.1.1. I've tried reinstalling QT 7.1.1 as well as my Flash plugin with no luck. Beyond that I've repaired permissions and restarted while holding the apple+s key to start in single user mode then ran fsck as instructed (/sbin/fsck -fy ). After that I still have no audio in my browsers.
This problem is only occuring on a fairly new iMac 2.1Ghz G5 w/1GB ram running 10.4.6

    Gerry,
In addition to the GarageBand suggestion, since you are using a G5 iMac, No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4) may give some background on why this may be happening.
    ;~)

  • Is Quicktime pretty much on all browsers now?

I'm programming a website, and am wondering what the most common video is that people have embedded in their browsers? That is, by having my video a quicktime video, will some people not be able to view my website? Or is it very, very common nowadays? Thanks. David

I guess I wasn't clear, but my point was to address how common QuickTime is, Rick. Since QT comes with iTunes, many people now have QuickTime installed automatically as part of their installation for their iPods and iPhones. Often they're not even aware of having QT, but the popularity of the iPhone and iPod has made QT much more common in the Windows world.
iTunes are separate components and you don't need to install QT at all
Just so no one is confused by this statement, iTunes will not work without QuickTime. You can have QuickTime without iTunes, but not iTunes without QuickTime (unless iTunes works with QuickTime Alternative, which I don't believe it will).
    Regards.

  • Safari not playing Quicktime from new website, all other browsers can

Hi, I have a new web site being created. The developer has most of it done but has not been able to get the quicktime movies working correctly. The movies, animations, and panos, can be selected and play from Firefox on the MAC and PC, and IE on the PC.
Our problem is that these same movies do not show or play on Safari on the MAC. we just get a big "Q". The developer is a pc guy and has no way to get it working, he's tried it for months and everyday it's just a day away. Does anyone have some code or know what is going on and how to fix it. This is most frustrating. I would like to change developers but we are too far into the project to do that now. Thanks in advance for any information.

  • The big reason Quicktime doesn't work in browsers (question mark appearing)

So far it has been, for many people, unsolved. But I've been digging around, and one of the reasons for quicktime not being able to play flash, youtube, and all types of safari movies (including Apple's quicktime) is because on many Macs, the Mime types are simply not there.
In the Mime settings, for instance on my Mac, my Mime types are missing! None there! I've spoken to an Apple genius and they have no idea. I've reinstalled the OS and upgraded to Leopard, and they are still missing. This would explain for many users why no matter what they do or tweak, they still can't run movies in their browser. With no mime types, you simply can't play many movies on your browser.
Reinstalling Quicktime and iTunes has done nothing. upgrading has done nothing. It seems like its very deeply imbedded in the system and not included with updates.... ANY UPDATES! Even with Leopard. Apple assumes they are already there. So for those of us who are missing (possibly deleted... but I can't see how).... how do we get back these mime types and can we download them anywhere???
    Summary:
All mime types are missing - where can I get the original mime types?
    PLEASE HELP!

Or to put it another way:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
