Quicktime in Iphone Safari (Formats?)

What format does a movie file have to be, compression etc, to run properly in the iphone safari browser?

Viewing quicktime movies in Safari

What are the specifications for viewing quicktime movies in safari? I've tried several different sites, most without luck. One very useful site (http://mac.sillydog.org/qt/compare.php) has several different QT formats posted. I was surprised to find out that I could not view the H.264 format, but that I could view the MPEG-4 (basic) and MPEG-4 (Improved) formats (these are the last 2 examples on the page). Also, does anyone know if it is possible to view any streaming quicktime video from within Safari? TIA

Update: No it is not possible to stream quicktime video to ipod touch or iPhone at this time. Only Audio streams are supported.
I don't know the exact specifications off hand, although I know for definate that Apple's trailer site now redirects you to a iPhone-friendly version when browsed from either iPod touch or iPhone.
Maybe you could look into what spec the videos are encoded there? - Hopefully you can, I'd also be able to upload video in ipod touch compatible format(s).

Used to convert all my videos into iPhone mp4 format using Any Video Converter - then add it to my iPhone 3GS. But last few days, I cant add video files to iTunes. and the iTunes doesnt even specify the reason except for that "files are not supported"

Everything is fine.
-They are the right format
-Quicktime is updated
-I have tried simply dragging them into the 'movie' library
-I have tried going to file<add file to library
Nothing works, has anyone else had this problem and found a way around it?

In addition to Mike's suggestions, you only have 4GB of RAM and Mavericks does use more RAM than other versions. You may also want to look at the apps that startup on login and the possiblity of upgrading RAM.

*some* websites do not display in iphone friendly format

Foxnews.com, facebook.com, and yahoo.com all recognize my iphone and display accordingly. Baylorbears.com does not.
-My first iphone baylorbears.com would display the same as the others, in an iphone friendly format.
-My friends phones display it in an iphone friendly format.
Any ideas on settings on my phone that I could toggle? Or does this sound like a website error?

This is controlled by the website, and the specific URL you entered in Safari.

Quicktime problem in Safari

I am having a problem with viewing Quicktime movies in Safari. When I try to download I get a window saying that there is missing software that us unavailable from Quicktime, and a torn Quicktime icon appears in the play window. I think I must have a damaged or missing plugin or something. What are my options?

YouTube is Flash oriented. Sometimes the Flash settings in Quicktime are active, which blocks Adobe's Flash player from functioning properly creating the ? syndrome.
Go to your System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced panel. Enable Flash ought to be checked. Then, click on the Mime Settings button. Make sure nothing is selected in the Miscellaneous panel.
As you use an Intel machine, files using Windows Media Player will not play natively, as Microsoft no longer supports this player on the Mac platform. The alternative is to use the Flip4Mac plug-in. This converts the WMV file to a Quicktime format.
Once installed, a Flip4Mac preference panel will appear in System Preferences. Select it. In the Internet Plug-in panel, the 1st and 3rd boxes ought to be checked. In the Movies panel, the 1st box is checked.

Watching Quicktime videos through Safari

I recently noticed that I am unable to play Quicktime videos through Safari on my iPod Touch 1st Generation. I first noticed this when I wanted to watch the new iMac video on Apple's site. I also tried to watch the newest Apple ad on the site. I was able to watch older ads on the site. Keep in mind I am not referring to Flash videos, I know they don't play. These are actual Quicktime videos (the ones on Apple's site which are not Flash). Any ideas?

It doesn't play on my iPod either. I have a feeling that the videos are not formatted for the iPod touch - wrong screen size, etc. Apple doesn't have a mobile site like many manufacturers so much of what you see is not optimized for the little screens.

IPhone Safari doesn't open links in new page

Under iPhone Safari Settings, I've got it set to Open Links In New Page, but when I click on links in Safari, that doesn't happen. When I set it to Open Links In Background, that doesn't happen either. Links open in the same page no matter what the setting.
Anyone know how this can be fixed? Thanks.

It depends on the website. Some websites have it set up to take you to a new tab, some do it in the same tab.

How do I stop iPhone Safari from dynamically resizing the visual viewport?

Sorry I post this here, but I couldn't access the developer forums (no error given, it just keeps returning me to this page https://developer.apple.com/devforums/) I'm not even sure wether that's been moved here and it's just the redirection non working.
I need to Stop iPhone Safari from dynamically resizing the visual viewport, or in other words, to stop it from trying to "fit" the layout into the viewport.
Why?
Because any recalculation javascript does on absolutely positioned elements makes the whole site super IRRESPONSIVE.
I don't know wether the issue is the element going out the already-set layout viewport (which triggers the page resizing to fit the visual viewport) or just the calculations being made constantly, but I can stop the calculations from happening when not "touching" the screen, but I need a way to stop the page resizing.
I tried setting the viewport width to 1040px, as my layout width, and it fixed the header's width being narrower than the body (or shifted left?), but the whole page is still resized with every motion-frame (one every 3 seconds, due to overloading the redrawing engine)
Is there a way to prevent that?

No, that link doesn't solve it. It just says the same is found everywhere online.
There's probably no way to do it, as per their way they "accidentally" omitted the oposite case: the page being wider than 980. They only mention what to do if the site is narrower. Something I learned is big companies (with reputation management) could let you run in circles for years no answer rather than telling you something is not possible.
I'm the developer (can't access the dev forums, don't know why) and I DID setup the viewport, scale and other properties but none of them stopped from re-fitting the new re-sized layout in the viewport. They just ensure the "initial" view.
I think the feature I'm looking for must be achieved with some JavaScript function targeting Safari-proprietary variable/property… if even possible.

Since upgrading to Lion, I cannot play QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1.1, not even on Apple's own website?

Upgraded to Lion and now I cannot watch QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1. Did not have this problem in Snow Leopard. QuickTime videos do play in Firefox. I cannot even play QuickTime videos on Apple's own website. Any suggestions? I'm using a Macbook Core 2 Duo.

I have partially solved my problem. I had software installed for a Twelve South BassJump (it improves the sound of your laptop speakers). When I removed that software, I was able to play videos on Apple's website in Safari. The company has beta software available from their website that is supposed to be Lion compatible but when I installed that the problem returned. But even with that software removed I still cannot watch videos on some sites such as Other World Computing.
I just got a new Macbook Pro yesterday with Lion installed from Apple and all video plays fine. So I believe there must be some compatibilty issues with some plug-in. I have Perian and Flip4Mac installed. I removed 3ivx and the problem still remains. I've read conflicting opinions as to Perian being Lion compatible.
Everything works fine in Firefox at this point so at least I have that to fall back on.
Check your system preference pane under "other" and tell me if you have any of the plug-ins I mentioned installed. Maybe we will be able to see a common culprit.

Internet(1) + phone talk(2) = only (1) or (2)!

But iphone dont work as telephone when i use Internet!

SO my operator say, that iphone is a B class phone and its work only with voice only with internet... and dont say about 3g work graet with voice and internet..

Can't fast forward in QuickTime for iPhone 3.0?

Does anyone know how to get the slider bar that allows you to fast forward a Quicktime on iPhone 3.0? On the previous version, any quicktime apps had the volume slider on the bottom, and the play timer up top, which you could slide to forward to or go back to a time on the track. On 3.0, i only see the volume slider, and a 30 second rewind, and a 'next track' button. what if you want to fast forward?

I suspect it's the way they were recorded. I've seen that behaviour before with music and video files I have downloaded. I'm not sure of the actual reason or any possible solution.

IPhone - Safari parent window focus problem

I am having a peculiar problem with a website i am developing. The problem *only* happens on the iPhone(safari).
My setup is as follows.
1) I have a CLIENT page - shows an initial page, and has a login button.
2) User clicks on the LOGIN button, and is shown a LOGIN popup/new-window (this is created by posting a form using jquery 'submit' function with target='_blank')

I use the above after authenticating with google and getting a token back in this case tok and this needs passing back to the original app. I would prefer not to launch a new window and have this mess but becasue the google API wont accept a proper route url for angular I cant get that to work. This way was the closest that I got.

IPhone Safari cannot open PDF in iBook

I retrieved a PDF file online with iPhone Safari, while tapping on the "open in iBooks" tap at the top right side, I found out that it was not working as before, is it a bug in iOS 5?

Well, no luck after the updates. PDF problem still persists.
Beside this, it seems to have other compatible issues with website like ims.netiquette.com.sg too. A bug is preventing me tapping and keying in directly onto web form boxes , after I make item selection from drop-down menu.
This is truly a disaster...

Quicktime links in Safari only show text gibberish - help

Lately, whenever I click a link to a media file from iPhone Safari, I only get to see its inherent text gibberish or meta file text.
That goes for AudioBoos, or streaming videos, etc.
Why?
How can I cure this?

In the Safari Settings of the general iPhone settings, do you have your "Allow PlugIns" setting set to On?

Quit Safari.
Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
☞ If running OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and copy the line below into the text box that opens:
~/Library
Delete the following items from the Library folder:
Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
Relaunch Safari and test.
