Quicktime Interactive Movie Mouse Control

I have a quicktime interactive movie saved from keynote with chapters added in.
The file pays full screen but at 800x600 screen resolution, the mouse left click button is not advancing the presentation. If I change the resolution to 1024x768 the mouse works again. What is the relationship between resolution and mouse control and how do I get it to work at 800x600?

Tristan,
As Rick indicated in his post, the answer lies in "manually"
pausing the slides by inserting click boxes or buttons. I just
wanted to add that if you have already recorded your movies and did
not use Simulation mode, you can still easily insert a click box on
each slide to pause them.
1. On the first slide, insert a click box and set the options
as you desire (turning off success/failure captions for
instance...just don't uncheck the Pause movie until user clicks
option, otherwise you will change the "nature" of the object that
Rick was referring to.)
2. Size the click box to as small as possible and place it in
an out of the way location on the slide. (We often hide it under
another object if it does not need to be clicked such as when used
in conjunction with the auto playback controls.)
3. Copy the click box
4. On the filmstrip view, highlight all slides that you want
the movie to pause
5. Right Click on any one of the highlighted slides in the
filmstrip view and select Paste Object
This will paste a copy of your click box in the same location
on all slides with the same settings as your original.

  • QuickTime Interactive Movie Playback Controls

When playing Quicktime interactive movies as slide shows full screen, are there any navigation options while remaining in full screen? I want to be able to jump to other parts of the presentation without existing full screen.

If your movie has chapter markers in it and you're close to the end, the fastest way is to just hit the jump to next marker button (the right button on the click wheel, the fast forward with a line button) to get to the end of the movie. The movie will then stop playing and return you to the last menu you were in. When you go back to the movie, it will restart at the beginning.
If it doesn't have chapter markers, the left click wheel button will take you back to the beginning (well, actually, it will take you back to the last menu you were in before playing the movie, but the movie will restart back at the beginning the next time you play it).
P.S. There's no such thing as a stupid question. Not everything is as obvious as Apple thinks it is. And that is exactly what this forum is for. Heck, I've been a Mac user since 1987 and it took me a couple of days to figure out how to actually turn off my 4G iPod when I first got it. (Hmmm, put it to sleep and lock the controls, with the "hold" switch. Yah, that's obvious.)

  • I can't see the hand-cursor to controlled slides from a Quicktime Interact.

Suddenly, my hand-cursor disappeared to controlled Hyperlinks from presentations in Quicktimes Interactives, make with Keynote.
How can I get it again?
I search in preferences, but I don't know how to appeared it.
    Thanks

Ok, that didn't work and only closed out this window in discussions. After it closed this one I tried again doing the same but nothing. Makes sense though because if it closed this one out it would close everything else out on my desktop too. This is like a giant screen saver. All my other .jpg icons are still on my desktop over the top of this big pic. Is it possible this is what it is, just a screensaver? I did the same with another pic from the same website and it didn't do this. I clicked on my mouse to save a pic to the desktop and this monstrous thing appeared.  My dock is still there and the top bar that has the apple, Safari, edit, etc., but not anything else that you would normally click on to close a window.

  • Quicktime 7 in Lion for keynote interactive movs

Can I install quicktime 7 in Lion? (Quicktime X doesn't play the keynote interactive.movs)

On Lion, I am able to play Keynote files exported to QT using Manual Advance and Hyperlinks Only in QuickTime X on Lion.  But here is the link to the QT 7 installer if you need it:

  • Aspect ratio, quicktime reference movie

Hi, I'm trying to compress my movie edited in 1080i HDV to the h.264 Sequence iPod video 640x480.
I've done this many many times exporting directly from FCP to compressor and it usually works.. But I have read (here and other places) that it is better to
    1. make a quicktime reference movie
    2. open that in compressor..
    3. render (compress) into the correct format
When I do that it messes up the aspect ratio (making it even wider) any suggestions?
    J

When converting like you did in the past, (where it changed the aspect of your image) did you go into the geometry controls of compressor and also select the proper aspect, found in the Frame Size controls.
If you fail to do this, you would end up with the wrong aspect being applied. You may also have to pad your video, using the "Output Image Inset (Padding) controls as well to maintain your 16x9 aspect on a 4x3 aspect.

  • Webforms10g: initialize of mouse control?

    Hello,
It happens sometimes in a multi record block that the cursor stays on the item of the current record and does
not move to another record with a mouse click.
Is there any command to initialize the mouse control?
    Maybe: synchronize?

This has been an on and off problem with every version of Jinitiator. I've seen it many times before. Just use the TAB once or twice, and it will work again.

  • No mouse control on mac mini

hi, I'm a new user to ARD 3, I have it installed on my iMac core duo and use it to control/observe 2 machines in my home, my mothers and a freinds via internet. All of the machines are running 10.4.6 with the latest clients installed and the all work fine apart from one of the macines in my own home connected via ethernet. The mac in question is a 1.25ghz G4 Mini, I have done all system updates etc.. it has latest client, it has NO third party software as I have performed a clean install, The problem manifests itself by not giving me full mouse control. I can observe fine, I can apply cutains, get reports put to sleep etc. But when I try and control the mouse, the pointer appears in the very top left corner of the screen, I can pull the point away by about 2 inches(5cm!) but it just springs back again and won't let me click on anything???? weird or what?
please shed some light on this as I think i'm going mad.
    regards steve

I don't have a solution exactly, but a clumsy workaround that helps.
I use my Powerbook to control a handful of computers for a volunteer job, but I also use it to control my two mac minis. The problem I have only happens, that I notice, on my own computers within my home network:
Occasionally, the admin screen will stop updating the client, and the easiest way to get back control is to close the window, and retake control from the main admin window. Or, sometimes the wireless will go down due to me resetting/unplugging it or the occasional fluke. Regardless, after one of these occurences, there is a 1 in 3 chance that I can't control the client's mouse anymore.
Just as described above, you can move the mouse a short distance (or really a short amount of time (~ half a second) before it snaps back to its original position. I always reasoned that the client still thought it was being controlled (i.e. I, the admin, never lost control) and so when I took control again, it thought another admin was vying for control. So either the original admin gets full control, or it can't resolve two admins controlling one client at the same time (makes sense, right?).
So, the easiest workaround it to log out of the client computer and log back in. Occasionally, this isn't enough, and I'll restart the client, which always works.
It really is interesting how Apple seems to put enough work in this to run almost perfectly for a home user to control a handful of computers, but it lacks in proper support for people who use it as it was intended, to administer a multitude of clients.

  • Capture a user's mouse control over the player

There is video streaming using RTP to the QuickTime viewer in a web page
The major issue is that the z-index of the player seems to be infinite, not allowing mouse events to be captured over the top of the player
Is there anyway to get around this? I'd like to use javascript to *capture a user's mouse control over the player if possible.*

mgulesian, you might want to query the system properties.
System.getProperty("user.name")Please note that this property is subject of security constraints (and there're good reasons for this, read the Java Tutorial, Trail: Essential Java Classes, Lesson: Accessing System Resources for details). For example, web applications running inside Tomcat are not allowed to query this property by default. Think twice before doing this, you have been warned!

  • Quicktime Pro: movie from stills, movie size

    Hello all,
I am planning to buy QT Pro, and have 2 questions about it:
    1. I want to convert my DVDs (music concerts) to QT so that I can organize them in iTunes and watch without having DVDs. What will be the size of a QT file converted from a 2 hr concert, with acceptable quality?
    2. I am doing some modeling (finite element) and am not sure if the PC software can make animations. I was thinking of taking the stills from the results and make a movie in Quicktime, for my Keynote presentation. Can Quicktime make movie from stills? . I know it can do slideshow but this would be like a slideshow changing images every .25 second or even faster. Do you have any other suggestions in this regard?
    Thanks in advance!
    Alpesh

You'll need some third party software for your MPEG-2 (DVD format). I use HandBrake (free). It allows you to set movie dimensions and compression to a "fixed" (you control) file size.
QuickTime Pro can import image sequences. You can set the frame rate at import from 60 frames a second up to ten seconds per frame.
You can even add audio or export these image sequence movies to DV Stream for use in iMovie or iDVD.

  • Interactive movies fail in Safari after Snow leopard

A lot of folk use this site - Newtonian Physics and also Ecosystems. The pages use QuickTime movies - clickable - as pull down menus and as video illustrations, simulations etc.
Since Snow Leopard the Quicktime interactive menus don't function. They "pull down" but on selection don't function and leave a black box where the interactive movie was. Not sure what Apple have done to break it! It would be good to get it functioning again - a lot of teachers depend on it. See for example.
    http://rubble.heppell.net/simulations/newton_home.htm

They "pull down" but on selection don't function and leave a black box where the interactive movie was.
    QT Kirk,
Believe he is referring to the "pull down" menus at the top of the "Newton" page banner -- not the simulations themselves.

  • Quicktime video (.mov file) will not load and play in Firefox 3.6.16

I have a computer with Firefox 3.6.16 installed that will not play Quicktime videos (.mov files) in the browser. This is a desktop computer.
Another computer (laptop) with exactly the same version of Firefox installed will load and play them perfectly in the Quicktime player.
Both computers have Quicktime addin 7.6.9.0 installed and designated as the default application for Quicktime movies.
Both computers play the videos correctly in IE 8.
When attempting to play the video in Firefox, the player window opens and attempts to load the video, but soon seems to freeze leaving a black window open where the player should be.
From what I have observed, this seems to be a problem related specifically to this computer, and since the video plays in IE I have ruled out the firewall blocking loading from the site.

Hi, I've exactly the same problem, 'cept I've XP Pro. When I say exactly, I mean the format used is HDV 1080i60, along with everything else there.
And I'm right there with you. Why Quicktime can't play a natively encoded HDV Quicktime file (using Final Cut Pro), is beyond me, but basically, I've used K-Lite Codec Pack, and Quicktime. Neither work, although Quicktime does ask for internet connectivity to download resources or something similar (I don't have Internet Access at home). I've used VLC on a friend's PC, and, while it works, there is a very strange, and irritating flicker where there's heavy movement
Where can I get the resource needed, as another party needs to view the clip, and they already have it. So if they can update their codec library or similar, then that would be much better (as I wouldn't need to upload a FullHD Video again)
    thanks

  • Could I connect the lap top to TV and watch movies and control the lap top from a distance?

could I connect the Apple lap top to my TV to watch movies and control the lap top from a distance just like the Window lap top???

Check out Apple TV.  It is a wireless interface to your TV.  It may be the best $99 investment you can make for entertainment on your TV.  It simply requires a standard $10 HDMI cable, not supplied with the Apple TV unit.  Through Apple TV, with Mavericks, you can use the TV as a standard OS X monitor or for entertainment.  Also check out the Beamer software to stream videos to it from your Mac.
Apple TV requires a Mid 2011 or newer MacBook Air with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later.
If your MBA is not new enough you can use the AirParrot application but the video quality is not as high as with a newer MBA.  It also streams from iOS devices.

AirPlay is available on all devices running iOS 4.3 or later. Some features require the latest software. Second-generation Apple TV or later required.

After my MacBook Pro wakes from sleep, the trackpad movement (mouse) reveals the sign-in screen in little squares.

    Hello there, peijinc.
I understand your MacBook Pro seems to be taking longer than expected when coming back from sleep. It sounds like you may be seeing the Mavericks feature called Safe Sleep. The following Knowledge Base article offers up an explanation of how that feature works:
OS X: Saving energy with Sleep
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5963
If you feel that this period of time is greater than normal, this article offers some practical steps to troubleshoot your Mac:
OS X: When your Mac doesn't sleep or wake

Although the entire article offers relevant steps, this section may prove most useful:
If the steps above do not resolve your sleep-related issue, try these additional recommendations.
    Reset SMC
    Reset NVRAM/PRAM
    Test with external devices disconnected
    Try Safe Mode

I cannot import a Quicktime file (.mov) which I generated from a slide show out of iPhoto8 in iMovie8 (filename is grey); what did I wrong?

iMovie 08 will only import files that contain codecs that it can edit. It will generally import audio and video codecs that iPhoto generates. However, if your iPhoto slideshow contains a manual advance track, iMovie cannot edit this and therefore will not import. In iPhoto, check to see if you can do a timed advance rather than a manual advance. Then it should import.
