Quicktime is not showing up in my system preferences?

I'm having a problem of seeing the question mark where a movie should be.  According to this site http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/browser/bluequestionmark.html I'm to go to System Preferences and then select Quicktime advanced tab. The problem is that Quicktime is now showing up in my System Preferences but is in m application folder.  How do I get Quicktime into my System Preferences?
I'm using OSX 10.6.8
Michelle

There is no QuickTime System Preference pane in Snow Leopard or Lion.

  • HT204053 my mac is updated but icloud is not showing up in my system preferences...

my mac is updated but icloud is not showing up in my system preferences, only MobileMe which looks like it charges a fee.  Are icloud and mobileme the same? i thought they were different.  if they are different why can't i see icloud on my mac?

Your Mac is 3 versions of OS X out of date, current release is 10.9.1, minimum required for Lion is 10.7.4, you have 10.6.8.
Download 10.9.1 (Mavericks) from the App Store

  • I downloaded lion and cloud does not show up in my system  preferences. Not sure how to get started without finding icloud., I downloaded lion and cloud does not show up in my system  preferences. Not sure how to get started without finding icloud.

I just downloaded lion and cloud does not show up in my system preferences. Where is it hiding so I can set up icloud and see what lion is offering that is different from snow leopard.

I purchased Lion on the app program but that did not seem to update my software or my operating system. Curious. It showed up on my menu bar saying it was downloading then disappeared. I can't seem to find it anywhere. Suggestions where I should look to make sure it is installed (which clearly it isn't)
    Thanks Roger

  • Quicktime program to show up in my system preferences?

I just bought the new Quicktime Pro application-  for $30.
I have been sitting here for over an hour and Cannot find out how to download it.   The "downloading steps" first instruct me to go to my APPLE ICON, Select SYSTEM PREFERENCES, and then select the QUICKTIME icon....
But I can't find the Quicktime Icon.  It's not there. Yes, I already have the Quicktime 7 application.   So WHY  won't it show up in my System Preferences?!  What am I doing wrong?

That's good advise, but the Quicktime Player 7 is not in the Utlilities folder.  (I clicked on "Finder", then "Go" on the Menu bar, and then clicked "Utilities".  It's not there.)
I just spoke with an Apple Representative and he said to go into an Apple Retail store and get them to help me upload Quicktime from Snow Leopard -or whatever operating system my commuter is on...    for some reason, it's just not there in my Utilities.   Very, very frustrating.
But these things should be expected when a costumer like me doesn't know everything about Macs.  I'm sure this would be a very easy issue to deal with for a computer expert. I feel pretty silly asking for help.

  • The choice of headphone jack is not showing up under the system preferences - sound output options.  Therefor, my speakers suddenly do not work with my iMac

On my Intel based iMac, OS 10.6.8, my speakers suddenly were not transmitting sound. When I checked the System Preferences, Sound output, the headphone option was no longer available.  This has always worked in the past - what is up?
    Anyone have any suggestions???
    Ellen

    Applications > Utilities > AudioMIDI Setup.app
    Audio Devices window
    Side Bar
    Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so uncheck it.
Plug in the headphone and check whether in the output  headphone shows up in the same panel.
If so, you can adjust the volume there.

iCloud is only available in Lion, 10.7. You will have to upgrade to Lion in order to get into iCloud. If you transfered a .mac or .me address to iCloud through mobile me, or you have another device iCloud enabled, then you can log into the iCloud.com website.

I am not able to open my 'system preferences' it shows up on top, but the window just won't open. I haven't installed anything new, I have also restarted my computer, but still encounter this problem. Help?

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I just bought quicktime pro and can't get it to show up in my system preferences.

i just bought quicktime pro and can't get it to show up in my system preferences. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
QuickTime only appears on System Preferences if you are running Mac OS X Leopard, and you have OS X Mountain Lion.
In Mac OS X Snow Leopard and newer, QuickTime Player 7 isn't included, so you have to install it before getting QuickTime 7 Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3678
After installing QuickTime Player 7, you have to activate it in order to get QuickTime 7 Pro. In that link, follow the steps under "Information for QuickTime 7 Pro users"

How do I get the icloud to show up in my system preference? It only shows mobile me and will not let me in that.

Before you do anything you should check that your Mac meets the requirements for Mountain Lion:

I am still on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and do not have iCloud in my System Preferences. I have registered with iCloud online and backed up my iphone5 last night to my iMac. Where can I find the backup on my iMac?
Below is what comes up when I sign into iCloud - where are all the other applications that I need to backup?
Appreciate any answers to this query?
    Rachel

Your question is unclear.  If you're backing up to your iMac, (via iTunes, with cable or WiFi), this has nothing to do with iCloud and the backup is stored on your iMac here:
    : ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
