Quicktime Killed Startup

I installed the quicktime update this afternoon and it asked me to restart. When I restarted, it got past the grey screen to the screen with the loading blue bar. I noticed thart it was giving me some new messages, such as starting internet services and starting printer services, and right before the bar fills it says "Waiting for printer services" and just sits there. I let it try and load for a half hour and the Finder never started.
I am running Panther 10.3.9 and have no printers set up on my computer, and I think I deleted most, if not all, of the pre-installed print drivers for space purposes. I have no idea why it tried doing this after installing the QT update, but my computer won't start up.
Called apple support, my plan is expired but the technician told me to try holding Command-Option-P-R during startup. The command did what it was supposed to but it did not help my computer get past 'waiting for printer services.'
What is going on? I can't afford to pay for a repair. Please help. I also want to avoid the time-consuming process of re-installing Panther from the boot disks.

Glynn has it just a little bit wrong. Booting into Safe Mode actually does the disk repair for you.
If this works you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up, try to restart normally, and go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and repair permissions on the hard drive.

  • Startup Sound Pref Pane killed Startup Chime...

I made the mistake of installing and trying out the Startup Sound Pref pane from Arcana -
    http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~arcana/StartupSound/index.en.html
I'm running 10.5.6 on an Al Intel iMac. What it seems this pane will do is allow you to turn the startup chime down, but not adjust it back up...if you mute it, it's muted permanently. I've tried uninstalling the pane and flushing caches, and zapping PRAM (though I can't tell if it actually zapped). Still no Startup chime.
I want the Apple default back...how do I fix?..

If you want to start from scratch I would download 1.1b2 and run the Uninstaller that comes in the .dmg, which should remove all vestiges of Startup Sound.pref from your Mac.
Normally the System Volume controls the volume of the Startup Chime if it is the last thing that you adjust before you Shut Down your Mac. For example, if you set the System Volume to the level at which you want to hear the chime and then Shut Down your Mac, when you Restart your Mac, that should be the volume level that you hear the chime. Likewise, if the last thing you do is mute the System Volume and then Shut Down the Mac, when you Restart the Mac, you should not hear the Startup Chime.
The one caveat to this is if your Mac has been sleeping. If you waken your Mac and immediately Shut Down, when you Restart the Mac, the Startup Chime will be muted. To insure that your Startup Chime is not muted, after you awaken your Mac, either play a sound intentionally or adjust the System Volume, then Shut Down your Mac and when it Restarts the Startup Sound should be the level that you have set.
On my iMac Intel, even though I have external speakers, the Startup Chime plays through the internal speakers. On my old iMac G3, with external speakers connected, everything plays through the external speakers.
The Startup Chime is your Mac alerting your that it has passed the POST (Power On Self Test), and that the Test has found usable RAM installed at startup. iMacs, based on the model, have a series on Alert Codes, chimes, beeps or flashing power indicator lights, that alert you when the POST encounters problems.

  • ITunes/Quicktime killes my Windows 2000 SP4

After installing recent iTunes/Quicktime for Windows I am not able to boot my PC with Windows 2000 SP4. I can't reboot in save mode neighter - nothing goes.
Never saw a software which crashes your OS - I can't believe that!
What to do now? Don't tell me to re-install Windows 2000.
    Thanks.

I had the exact problem on two of my Dell Dimension running Win 2000. I had to painfully re-install everything. Did you fix yours?

  • Quicktime 7.1.3 Killed Classic

Well, the last software update of Quicktime killed my Classic application - it wouldn't start, came back and said the version of QT I have is not compatible, then wanted to update my system files, and then crashed.
I used the reinstaller for 7.0.1 to fix the problem.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/quicktime701reinstaller.html
    Now everything runs again!

That doesn't make sense, any install under OS X
shouldn't affect the state of QuickTime in Classic. I
have 7.1.3 under OS X and 5.02 under Classic, and
    both seem to work fine.
What was the application in question?
I was just starting the Classic app when I had the problem. I have since been able to get into Classic and install Quicktime 6. Then I updated Quicktime for OS X again to 7.1.3 and everything seems to be fine.
Something got confused somewhere I suspect.
Then again I DO have a PC running on the other side of the room.

  • Where is my Quicktime Pro?

I have FCP installed and was just looking at Quicktime and noticed that all mt QT Pro features are gone. There is no export feature and the "Save As" options are minimal.
Did a recent Upgrade to the latest Quicktime kill my Pro features? I have tried to reinstall FCP, but since all the components are already installed, it won't let re-install.

OK, apparently installing Quicktime 10 (which doesn't support the Pro features) deletes Quicktime 7. Problem was solved by finding a Snowleopard version of QT 7.6 on the Apple downloads section.

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER

    STARTUP/SHUTDOWN의 PROCEDURE와 종류
    ===================================
    Purpose
    Explanation
    1. STARTUP PROCEDURE
ORACLE을 운영하기 위한 background process(dbwr, lgwr, smon, pmon 등)를
    2) mount the database
    3) open the database
    2. STARTUP의 종류
    startup은 sqldba(v7.2까지) 또는 svrmgrl(v7.3 이상)에서 수행한다.
    1) startup
    2) startup restrict
    3) startup force
    4) startup parallel
    3. SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE
    4. SHUTDOWN의 종류
    shutdown도 startup처럼 sqldba(v7.2까지), svrmgrl(v7.3 이상)에서 수행한다.
    1)shutdown
    2) shutdown immediate
    3) shutdown abort

  • System start error after restore

    Hi,
I have restored DB2 database from tape backup and applied logs to time before crash.
All processes ends successfully. But when I try to start sap system via startsap database "stands up", Java instance too, but ABAP instance ends with message:
    Starting SAP Instance DVEBMSG_34
    Killed
    Startup of Instance failed
    See /export/home/epdadm/startsap_DVEBMSG_34.log for details
In log file mentioned above isn't any details about reason why ABAP instance fail to run.
Is there any trace/debug method to see what causes startsap fail.
Of course I've search all files in /usr/sap/EPD/DVEBMGS34/work, but there aren't any usefull info.
PS. Tech. spec. OS: Solaris 10, DB: DB2 v9.1 FP3, NetWeaver 2004s, system consists of  ABAP and JAVA instance
    Thanks for any suggestions
    Michael

  • ITunes 11 won't launch; tried almost everything

I know there are dozens of threads about this, but I've already read many and tried their suggestions. Still no go. I'm incredibly frustrated here.
I'm running Windows 7 and iTunes is mostly refusing to work.
I say mostly because it did start once yesterday, but my entire library was missing.
But typically, I click the shortcut, the pc "thinks" for a second, and nothing happens.
I have tried repairs, uninstalling (also uninstalling Bonjour), updated Quicktime, selective startups, some registry tweaks, added anti-virus exclusions... I'm out of ideas and ready to take an axe to my Ipod.
Suggestions? I'd really appreciate any help!

    Hello Steveriffic,
Thank you for posting all the information about the steps you have taken to resolve this issue.  I would be frustrated too if iTunes consistantly would not launch.  I found an article that has a few other steps for this issue that were not listed in your post.  You can skip any steps you have already taken:

If you need to locate your media files, you can use this article to help:

I have windows xp. itunes has worked for me before and i don't remember exactly but i think it was right around when i downloaded the new update.
i don't know if the remaining few options will fix my problem. any help?

I had a similar problem and it proved to be very complex to resolve. QuickTime would not fully uninstall (despite following all the instructions on this forum multiple times) and in the process a number of files were corrupted. It took a pretty skilled technician (from Dell) about 2 1/2 hours of labor to clean up everything, using some third party software called 'QuickTime Killer' among other steps. He had to clean up the registry manually with Regedit, and used a tool called X-Cleaner to get rid of corrupt files. It seemed that the multiple uninstall/reinstall processes caused more problems since QuickTime does not uninstall properly. This was on a Dell Inspiron Laptop with Windows XP Media Edition and SP2. If you have tried for a while without success, I would suggest engaging a technician with very strong XP skills -- it will save you time in the long run.

What worked for me w/ the 2096 error:
After removing every trace of itunes & QT, I installed QT 7.2 and made sure QT worked.
I installed a Feb version of itunes (7.6.1.9) because I was not willing to waste any more time. **Make sure that you deselect the 3rd checkbox that says it will update other Apple software (incl QT). That was the mistake made over and over and over (and over)!
Now that my ipod is charged, I may try to install the newest itunes as long as I don't let QT update. I don't use QT so I don't care if I'm using a 2007 version.

  • Can't startup my iBook after upgrading to QuickTime 7.03

Help!!!!!!! I checked software update and saw that there were updates to iTunes and QuickTime yesterday. I downloaded iTunes and ran it just fine. When I downloaded QuickTime I had to Restart my computer. My iBook will not Restart. It gets to the Mac OS startup window and the blue progress bar moves all the way across. My iBook will not move past this screen. The blue progress bar is complete, but that window never proceeds to the desktop, so the computer cannot startup. Does anyone have an answer? I ran Disk Utility and corrected the Permissions and Repaired the disk. Only the Permissions needed fixing and I did that. Help me please. What else can I do?

Ok... I just tried connecting my iPod directly to a USB port on the computer rather than via the USB hub I was using and everything is fine. Odd, but I'm happy now.
    Thanks,
    Evan

  • Itunes 6.0/quicktime startup error :(

I installed itunes 6 over a previously installed version of itunes 6 by accident and now Itunes and quicktime will not start up. The cursor starts to load and in task manager you can see itunes.exe load briefly but then it disapears.
I also notice the yariqy.exe extentsion in my system information which i read could be the problem from another thread, please help me I have tonnes of tunes I just baught and need to transfer to my ipod

hmmm. unfortunately, there are other kinds of malware out there that can drop randomly-named start-up (and process) entries in a PC. here's a list of about 50:
    http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/windowsxp/articles/594/1/Random-startup-ent ry-and-filename-viruses
... and the manual technique is only designed to remove one of them (the QooLogic variant, or whatever it is).
try downloading some of the reputable free antispyware products (like SpyBot Search and Destroy, and AdAware) and run those to see if they pick anything up. you might also want to try getting some antivirus software too.
can anyone recommend a reputable free antivirus package for TheOrangeJobber?

  • How do I uninstall SyncMate Server, Activity Monitor shows it still there after appzapper uninstall of SyncMate app? Killing in AM proceeds with a SyncMate Server startup again??

How do I uninstall SyncMate Server, Activity Monitor shows it still there after appzapper uninstall of SyncMate app? Killing in AM proceeds with a SyncMate Server startup again??
Mavricks, MacbookPro, typical config of everything and standard business user, no heavy graphics, animation or media editing. MS Office, web apps, etc.
I have the same issue with Logmein, which I installed a trial, uninstalled with appzapper, which I thought does a good job of untangling the components of apps but for these 2 it doesn't.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thx,

Usually applications like these have their own uninstallers, either build into the installer ( ! ) itself or as a separate uninstaller app. Check the site of the software provider for instructions.
Here's the instructions for SyncMate: http://wiki.eltima.com/user-guides/syncmate-mac-os/uninstall.html

  • Did Quicktime 7.5.5 update kill my iChat video client?

Yesterday I upgraded my Quicktime to the latest and greatest via Software Update.... and now the video portion of my iChat client appears to be broken. It was working great before the update, but now it will freeze video, audio might continue and then when I end the chat it will crash.
I read some posts on the site about setting the preferences to 500 bps for video in iChat and 1.5 Mbs on the Quicktime Streaming preferences. This worked initially, but now I'm back to crashing.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?
    Thanks,
    Rich

I have tried the solution posted here, as well as one that I found in another board on this forum (Reinstalling Quicktime from the stand alone installer).
My situation: The video froze, the audio would work for 15 seconds or so afterwards, then ichat would hang and eventually have to be force killed.
    I tried:
    repairing permissions
    reinstalling quicktime
getting the person I was ichatting with to update quicktime (this just caused it to crash on their end as well as my end)
The console output from the crash is:
15/09/08 7:04:13 PM [0x0-0xaa0aa].com.apple.iChat[1719] Tue Sep 16 02:04:13 mabel QTH264_SHMServer6b73d36fdd9[1723] <Error>: kCGErrorRangeCheck : On-demand launch of the Window Server is allowed for root user only.
15/09/08 7:04:13 PM [0x0-0xaa0aa].com.apple.iChat[1719] Tue Sep 16 02:04:13 mabel QTH264_SHMServer6b73d36fdd9[1723] <Error>: kCGErrorRangeCheck : Set a breakpoint at CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are returned
some googling of these functions brought up people talking about Quicktime APIs, so I can only assume this is still a quicktime issue. If anyone has actually solved this I'd love to know, thanks.

  • Quicktime - "play on startup" setting ???

Quicktime, how to set "play on startup" option?
Can't find settings for this option on my iMac quicktime.
In ms windows, there was a setting for this, but on quicktime X ???

Glad you found something that works - not sure I deserved a star, but thanks anyway!
