Quicktime launching Safari
I look after a high school music dept's 16 mac mini computers running OSX 10.3.9. They are connected to the main school network for DNS resolution and time server information. I have set up several managed user accounts and used "Limitations" to restrict access to certain applications, mainly Safari and Explorer. All user accounts are allowed to launch Quicktime Player but none are allowed to launch Safari, Explorer or iTunes. HOWEVER when QT connects to the 'content guide' and a link is accessed, Safari (and if required) iTunes launch; even though access to these applications has been limited as explained above! I am aware that through QT preferences it is possible to uncheck "Show Content Guide Automatically" but any user can simply re-check the box themselves and thereby gain access to Safari and iTunes 'through the back door' and as a result potentially view usuitable web content. I wish to disable the link between QT and associated applications at an administrator level so that a managed user is actually restricted only to those applications as specified in the limitations section in the user accounts pref pane.
Please help,
Thanks Glenn.

Itunes isn't working properly. I get this message every time I try and open Itunes. I've uninstalled, reinstalled itunes and all the support programs. Quicktime and Safari launch fine. Tried it with Nortons antivirus turned on and turned off etc. I've gone through the Apple Support file and removed the itunes preference files, I've started in safe mode and it still persists. This only started about a week ago when I changed over to my Iphone 4s. My phone loaded fine and backed up etc and now NOTHING....
I've got a Dell Inspiron 9400 with updated BIOS running Windows Vista Home Premium.
HELP..THIS IS WHAT I GET. Looks like a ntdll.dll error????????????????????????????????????????????

I think I isolated the problem to Norton Internet Security 2012 v 18.6.0.29 - iTunes would start fine with NAV Antivirus Auto-Protect disabled but crashed if Auto-Protect was on. I tried running iTunes as administrator (right click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator"; to make this permanent right click on the icon > Properties > On the Shortcut tab, click Advanced > tick Run as Administrator) and iTunes now runs fine. Maybe give that a try?

Can't launch Safari due to error message
I can't launch Safari anymore. It says it is missing some important resources and I have to reinstall Safari. I have done so, but it still does not work.
Here is the error message;
The procedure entry point SQLite3_wal.checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll.
Can someone please help me? I have rebooted my computer, uninstalled Safari and reinstalled it without any luck.
Thank you very muchJust so you are aware, Apple no longer suports Safari for Windows.
If you don't want to use IE, try Firefox for Windows > Mozilla Firefox Web Browser
Much more user friendly than Safari. -
On its own, mac goes online and launches safari. WHY?.
i have a powermac G5, but am using an ATT dial-up. i know.
when we wake up the mac,
more often than not, it immediately starts dialing out, going online and then launching safari.
anyone else have this problem?First off, you might have better luck posting in the correct forum. This is the forum for eMac support. Having stated this, I'll take a stab at your problem. I think it has to do with the way you have configured your Internet access. See this page (specifically question 4) for more information:
Frequently Asked Questions for PPP Modem Connections
In short you must do the following:
1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
2. Click the Network icon.
3. Be sure the Show pop-up menu is set to your modem (the "Configure" menu prior to Mac OS X 10.1), or other dial-up device.
4. Click the PPP tab.
5. Click PPP Options.
6. Uncheck the box marked "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" option.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Apply Now ("Save" prior to Mac OS X 10.1).
That should do the trick. If not, however, you ought to think about posting your question in the PowerMac forum, or better yet, the Mac OSX forum.
Best of luck,
Joe

I Cannot launch Safari or quit Safari. The Quit Safari option is not active or highlighted in the Safari menu. I tried to shut down and Log Out but cannot because Safari must close first. I have checked for software upgrades and there are none. What do I need to do to use Safari Or shut down Safari?Hey there KeelyBoley,
If you are still not able to quit Safari, or shutdown/restart your Mac, I would force quit the application with any of these instructions that work for you:
OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
Choose Quit by right-clicking or control-clicking on an app's icon in the Dock.
If your app does not close using the steps above, use any of these steps to force the app to quit:
Switch to another app, such as the Finder, then choose Force Quit from the Apple menu. Select the unresponsive app in the Force Quit window, and click Force Quit.
Press Command-Option-Esc, then select the unresponsive app from the Force Quit window that appears, and click Force Quit.
If Safari continues to become unresponsive such as in this case, a 3rd party plug-in may be the culprit, and this article will help you troubleshoot that:
Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the best,

Can't launch Safari after upgrade to 10.5
Dang Upgraded to Leopard (OS 10.5) from 10.4.11. When launching Safari, it refused to start and sent me error message "PithHelmet version xxx.xx.x hasnt been tested with Safari 3.x so it won't launch."
After that, I have disabled and removed PithHelmet from the system. No go. I have tried indtalling new version of Safari after deleting ALL Safari files: No go. New Safari won't even install. It says "System need to be 10.5.2 or later" but I DO have 10.5.4 now!
What on earth can I do?This is a common mistake, so you should take note to avoid doing this in the future. Just because a program isn't working for you is not a good enough reason to delete it, especially when you have no idea of the ramifications of your actions, which you and many others who have done this obviously didn't. You've created a lot more work and frustration for yourself, and you solved no problem.
If you want to install Safari, you cannot use a download, so you might as well trash it now; it will not work no matter what you do.
Instead, you need to do this, exactly:
1. Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
2. Navigate to the Optional Installs folder and open the Optional Installs.mpkg file. This will let you install Safari 3.0.4. When that's done, quit the installer and eject the disc.
3. Reboot your Mac and download the 10.5.4 Combo Update and install it again. When finished, use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, then restart your Mac and try Safari.

Can't launch safari 4.0.3 in Leopard, 10.5.8
every time I try to launch safari, the icon bounces in the dock for almost a minute, then stops and a dialogue box pops up and says "The aplication Safari quit unexpectedly, Mac OS X and other applications are not affected" I have reinstalled safari, and repaired permissions, and made sure that all software updates have been installed
Start by performing a bit of maintenance:
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.
Background information here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
and here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

Can't launch safari anymore.
I can't launch safari anymore. Not sure when the problem started. When I click on the icon, I get a message that says "safari.app is not supported." I installed OS X 10.5.3 today, and the problem is still there. Any suggestions?
The only thing I can remember doing in the last few months (since I last used Safari) was the regular software updates, including upgrading to Leopard from 10.3. I am pretty sure I used Safari successfully after upgrading to Leopard, but I'm not sure.
I also synched a palm device using Missing Sync in the interim (since last using Safari).
BTW, you can't imagine how frustrating it is to try to fix the problem without a usable web browser -

In any case : take it to Apple or an AASP & show them the report They should run a specific test with a simple pass/fail result shown on screen.
The three year period since purchase has probably passed; but nonetheless, if you're asked to pay, I'd call Apple customer service (or speak to the store manager ) & request that they consider your case. Several users here have previously obtained free repairs after doing so, even though outside the time limit. Here's a fairly recent one,

Whenever I try to open only Safari, Mail automatically launches. I cannot seem to figure out how to stop it from doing this. I am certain that this is not about programs launching at login. It only began after I did the Safari 6.0 update. I cannot find anything in preferences on how to stop Mail from launching.
Read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
Step 1
In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Select the Safari icon in that folder and press the key combination command-I to open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in the Info window labeled Open in 32-bit mode. Uncheck it, if checked. Close the Info window and the Applications folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.Safari
Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
Caches/Metadata/Safari
Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
Step 2
If you still have problems, quit Safari again.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
rm -fr $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.Safari
Quit Terminal. Launch Safari and test.
Step 3
If Safari still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (some may not exist):
Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
PubSub/Database
Safari
(Note: you are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”)
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings and bookmarks will be lost.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that will have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select File ▹ Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
Note: This step will remove your Safari Extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to restore them, do so one at a time, testing after each step to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
If you don’t like the results of step 3, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place. -

Help! Pressing Command and Q always launches Safari
Hi,
Today, out of nowhere, if I try to Quit an application other than Safari using the Command and Q keys on the keyboard, it doesn't work. What it does is launch Safari. I don't know how to get it to stop doing that.
Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance.
-DeanWell this afternoon, I got in touch with Maxtor, because I wanted to know if there was a program that would prevent my 1TB hard drive from sleeping. The tech sent me a link to download an application that would work on a Mac Pro. Once I ran the application (Maxtor OneTouch Manager) and (SyncMyMac), I realized I couldn't find the setting to prevent the drive from sleeping.
I again called Maxtor, and another tech said there's no such application for the Mac. So much for helping your customers and giving them the proper information.
What I did was remove anything that had to do with installing the app's I mentioned above, so perhaps, something is preventing my keyboard from working properly.
I'll check the start items list and see if there's anything out of the ordinary.
Thank you again for your help.

When launching safari all my tabs are gone ?
sometimes when launching safari all my tabs are gone ? why ???
and secondly why i have to relogin in this apple discussion every time i turn off my computer ?Another way would be to open System Preferences > General, and untick "Close windows when quitting an application". This applies to all applications."
DONT SEE THAT OPTION IN MY SAFARI PREFERENCE ???
"Another way is to open Safari menu > Preferences > General, and you will see an option that allows you to open Safari with the tabs opened."
ONLY SEE AN OPTION SAYING "SAFARI OPENS WITH ALL WINDOWS FROM LAST SESSION" WHICH I HAD ALREADY TICK ON BUT SEEMS NOT WORKING EVERY TIME FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASONS !! ??

You get logged out of Apple Support Communities when you close your Internet browser. You cannot modify this behaviour

ComboBox and TextField eats up space it should not
Hi, I have a panel to which I dynamically add buttons and other components. If I only add JButtons and JLabels, it works fine, but when it comes to adding a JComboBox or JTextField, it occupies all space (makes the containing panel extremely high), a
