QuickTime media

We have a large base on content developed for use in Director
projects. I'm interesting in the possibility of doing some new
stuff in ActionScript, but it seems there's no support for
QuickTime media. So my question is:
1. Any way to place and control QuickTime video with
ActionScript in a Flex project?
2. If not, will ActionScript let me control Flash video with
the same fine-grained precision that Lingo provides for QuickTime
in Director? Especially playback head position (time).
3. In general, is it premature to migrate Director
applications to Flex/ActionScript? Is the necessary functionality
there?
Thanks!

I'm not familiar with Director, but for the Flash Player (and
hence, Flex), the video has to be in Flash Video (FLV) format. One
way to convert it is to use Sorensen Squeeze from Sorensen Media
(www.sorensenmedia.com).

  • Premiere CS5.5 (5.5.2) crashing on linking Quicktime media

I have been trying to reproduce consistently for the past 3 days (with no luck).  Premiere 5.5.2 on Macbook Pro (2010) Lion 10.7.2.  Premiere launches a project with nothing in the timeline, only files in the the project window.  The application either successfully launches and the media links (several formats QT ProRes, H/264, R3D, etc...) or crashes while trying to link media.  I have tried differnt types of media and removing others.  Never seems to be a problem with MPEG-4, R3D, etc... but the Quicktime movies (ProRes, but not only) seems problematic.  This is completely inconsistent.  I am not changing anything, just simply binging up the same project over and over.  The application will crash or successfully launch randomly.  May get 4 or 5 successful launches and then next one is a crash.  May crash 2-3 times in a row.  Then successfuly launch again for the next serveral tries.  I can tell when the application launches whether it will crash or not.  I can hear my drive when the app tries to link media and everytime it succesfuly launches.  When I don't hear my media drive after lauch, I know it will crash - and does every time.  If I remove  all Quicktime media references/links and only leave MPEG-4 and/or R3D I cannot get it to crash. However, no consistency in the crashes with the Quicktime media.  Any thoughts?

noticing now that the crash reports are all different... see below vs. previous post... any thoughts on this?

  • Quicktime Media Server

I was wondering why no one talks about using QuickTime media server. All I see is folks talking about are XBMC and Plex.
Is there an issue with the QuickTime Media server? My purpose for buying the Mac Mini is to use the computer both as a server ans a HTPC.

The QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS) feature was deprecated and removed from OS X Server a while back, so you'll have to get Darwin Streaming Server (DSS) working (there were reportedly issues with that at 10.7 and the project doesn't seem to be active), or install XBMC or Plex, or use HTTP live s[t]reaming, or maybe something like El Gato EyeTV software will suffice for your requirements.

  • Adding a Quicktime Media Player to a page that can play from a list of links

I'm on a Mac G4 window front tower running OS X 10.4.11. I am using Adobe GoLive 7.2. and Quicktime player 7.6. The project I am involved in entails linking a group of Quicktime movies to a Quicktime media player on the same page. I can handle the linking, but HOW DO I GET THE QT MEDIA PLAYER ON THE PAGE?
    Please help.

Yes, it is doable. This page has some pics that will help.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing+Power+Mac+G4+Quicksilver+Hard+Drive/2079/1
The second drive will sit on top of the first one.
The jumpers have to be set on both drives for "cable select". Each drive has a diagram to show how the jumpers are arranged.
You need four screws to hold it in place.
The ribbon cable has two connectors, one for each.
The four pin power cable has to be connected to each drive.
When you boot, the Mac will mount both drives. You can erase the new one and proceed from there.

  • Cannot view quicktime media in Internet Explorer on Windows 7 without admin rights

I have several workstations that are all running Windows 7 64bit with IE 9, fully patched, and Quicktime 7.76.80.95.  I cannot get streamed quicktime media to open in the quicktime plugin unless I right-click and start IE as admin.
I have googled this issue and found references to mentions of this issue, but nothing that seems to resolve it.  Instead of playing the media, it shows the question mark over the quicktime logo.  If IE is started as admin, it works.  I tried the script mentioned in this posting Quicktime problem and it does not fix the issue in this case.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi dwaynelewis, IE 9 is over 3 years old so it appears the computer is not, so called, fully patched? Windows 7 updates from Microsoft will install IE 11.
This seems to be a permissions issue. What user accounts have administrator permissions with full control? For Internet Explorer and QuickTime? The one that is initially being used to log on with, appears to not.

  • Black Bar with Quicktime Media in Vista x64

When I try to launch Quicktime media files in Firefox or IE I get a black bar instead of the playback controls. However, when I make the browser run in "Windows XP" Compatibility mode the controls run fine, but my theme runs in windows vista basic.

QuickTime Player is not supported on 64 bit Windows OS's and this is a known "bug" for these users.
"Compatibility Mode" uses a 32 bit version with proper results.
    You must choose.

  • Zoom effect for quicktime media link

Anybody has tried fancyzoom or any other script with quicktime media links?

Consideration: all these AJAX effects require javascript and/or CSS to be linked to the page, which mean you can't use HTML Snippet and that means post editing.
That said, here are some examples:

  • QuickTime Media Link (qtl) not passed over to Player

Safari saves all movies with .qtl to my desktop.
They only open in QuickTime, if I have checked the option "open save files after downloading" (something like that - I have translated it from German).
Is this the default setting in Safari? What about the other Browsers?
I mean, if I export my videos in QuickTime Media Links,
how many of my website viewers just will have saved a file to their desktop without anything happening after?
I also wonder, if this saving of the QuickTime Media Link files is normal.
    Thank you for any replays

I am looking for a way that my podcast-videos can be played fullscreen not only in iTunes but also on my website.
With a (xml) QuickTime Media Link I can let the videos play in fullscreen and shut down the QuickTime Player at the end.
A plug-in with optional fullscreen playback would be a much easier solution,
but Apple possibly won't add this because they want the users download iTunes.

  • No quicktime media working!

all my quicktime media stopped working recently...for youtube, apple trailers, e-cards--everything. no error message comes up, and i get neither sound nor video--the site doesn't even make room for the quicktime box...i have NO CLUE what happened (perhaps something with the most recent version?)

What troubleshooting methods have you tried to try the resolve the matter? Need this info to avoid the +"been there, done that"+ scenarios.
If you have not already done so.........
Check the settings in the QT MIME Settings to make sure nothing has changed.
See Knowledge Base Article: KB article - No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4)
Another trick: If you have GarageBand installed, open it (maybe open a GarageBand document) and then quit out of the application.
Repair permissions & restart your computer.

  • Quick question about Quicktime media keys.......

I had a question about encoding video and media keys. It seems to me that the only codec that allows you to encode it with a media key is Sorenson (Sorenson 3 I think). Why are they the only ones that are enabling that in their codecs? Is it kind of a dying technology or practice? I've experimented with Sorenson 3 and Sorenson Squeeze trials and, even though it looks ok, it simply doesn't stack up to others like Apple's H.264 or open-source x264 or even Xvid. I guess I wish there were a way to be able to use media key options with all the new H.264 codecs. Is it possible to do that, either with Xcode or AppleScript? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

QuickTime has supported 'media keys" since version 3 but you can only add them using the third party software.
You would be better served by contacting Sorenson and asking them about their support for newer codecs.

  • Iphoto, itunes, and quicktime media player is missing how?

Ok so i just began using my macbook pro full time. I let my sister use it and now my itunes, quicktime and iphoto are missing!!! She says she downloaded some software to use for her project that converts media into files to use in iphoto. (keepvid.com) HELP!!!

In the upper right hand corner (in the menu bar) is a magnifying glass icon.  Click on it and an entry field will appear.  Enter the name of the item you are looking for and it will generate a list for that item (if it exists), click on it and it will show you where it is located.
Yes you can reinstall QuickTime if you so choose.
Your problem should now make it clear to you why backups are important (Time Machine).
    Ciao.

  • QUICKTIME MEDIA PLAYER NOT LAUNCHING VIDEOS IN IPHONE?

IT JUST GIVE ME A DOWNLOAD BUTTON AND A PLAY IN MEDIA PLAYER BUTTON. THE DOWNLOAD BUTTON WORKS. IT SAYS CLICK TO DOWNLOAD FILE TO YOUR /VAR/MOBILE/LIBRARY/DOWNLOADS FOLDER. BUT BEFORE IT JUST USED TO LAUNCH THE TRAILERS OR APPLE KEYNOTE IN THE MEDIA PLAYER. NOW IT DOESN'T. WHY?

Taking out this feature really annoyed me too. I assume they deliberately did it to simplify things for the common user who keeps getting synchronization errors when he tries to funnel .mov files in iTunes to his iOS device. I also assume the software is still capable of this exporting and that they didn't remove the feature from the architecture, but rather just took out the interface to it. It wouldn't surprise me if in the following weeks some people with knowledge on the subject came up with some more information on this.
In the mean time though, rather than downgrading back to Snow Leopard or dual booting it, you could also opt to install Quicktime 7 side by side with the current version. Version 7 has all the familiar features related to saving in a .mov container and also offers trimming - well, if you have a serial key to unlock the pro features, that is. You might still have this from back in the day, or you could purchase it still on Apple's website for 30 bucks.
I don't think buying Quicktime Pro 7 is absolutely necessary though. I'm not very familiar with this stuff, but I imagine there are some other players out there, free ones, that still offer this feature. I know it's somewhat possible with VLC by using the export wizard and choosing to encapsulate in .mov in the last step, but the resulting file stutters here on my macbook air. I had an old serial key laying around, so I chose for QT7 and didn't bother looking for something else.

  • Mobile Safari / Webview - closing quicktime media does not return to page

Hello. I have noticed that recently, with the 4.3.1 update, when you click 'Done' in a quicktime player window invoked from a Mobile Safari or webView page, the player controls disappear, but the quicktime logo stays on the screen.
In previous versions of IOS, when you click Done, it returns you to the calling page.
Simple test: create a webpage with a link to a MP3 file. Load it in Safari, click it to invoke the Quicktime player. Pre-4.3.1, when you click Done, the player exists and returns you to the webpage. On 4.3.1, when you click Done, the player remains on the screen, and you have to use Mobile Safari's controls to navigate back to the page.
Anyone know how to revert to pre-4.3.1 behavior?

I haven't submitted a report nor feedback because, quite frankly, I seldomly venture into Apple's sites and I have not submitted a bug report to Apple before, nor would I know how to do so. I also assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that Apple has staff perusing these forums and taking notes and passing them to QA and their developers.
But I agree, submitting a bug report/feedback is a great idea. I'll figure it out and do so tomorrow when I have more time.
By the way, why did '*****,' appear in my post? I didn't use any obscene words.

  • Quicktime Media Link issues

I've just completed a website for a short film, and have used .qtl files for HD trailer links. However, right now they work fine in opening up quicktime and playing the movie, but I can't get any audio. The audio is definitely there on the source movies, so I'm sort of clueless. Any ideas? The site is:
    http://www.sanejulesblaine.com
...if you want to check them out.

Are you looking at the same version that's posted?
UPDATE: I Just double-checked your links and now they play audio from the qtl file.
Your 480 file seems to have some problems, though. When I click the link it tells me it's not a movie file, but if I enter the URL directly into QuickTime, it plays. Do you see that?

  • Problems publishing quicktime media

    Hi There,
I seem to have a problem when I publish my website. I have created a blog on my site which I have just added a blog post to about a night out I went on. I have dragged and dropped a quicktime move to the blog post and it shows up fine in iWeb, but when the site is published it wont play and displayed the quicktime (Q) with a question mark over it. I have tried opening the site on my windows computer (which has quicktime installed) and it does work after a long long time and several clicks through the site, but no matter how hard I try and I can get it to work on my iMac or in Safari.
Here is the page that the problem is occurring on
    http://mimipowerphotography.com/TheGrand_Adventure/Blog/Entries/2010/5/16_Mum_and_emilysbirthday.html
Could someone take a look please and suggest some steps that I could take to solve the problem. Or at least tell me if it is working on your machines: because if it is then it must just be a problem with mine.
    Huge thanks in advance
    Jay

    It works fine.
Here's a solution that may work. Go to :
    ~/Library/Caches/QuickTime/
where ~ is your Home directory and delete these file and folder :
    downloads and StreamingBandwidth
    Then reload your webpage.
Safari has a habit of not deleting the cached QT movies when you clear the browsercache. So a partially loaded movie sometimes prevent further loading. Or not loading at all.
