Quicktime Metadata editor

Hi
I'm looking for a quicktime Metadata editor that will allow me to create a template of new metadata that can be written to any .mov file and read by Final Cut Server. I want to use Quicktime as a way to pre-populate metadata fields before ingest, preferably without having to go into Final cut pro for traditional logging.

How do I access the Quicktime video editor in iMovie?

I'm trying to access the Quicktime video editor (the one that allowed you to sharpen your videos, among other adjustments) that used to be there in iMovie. I'm running iMovie 10.0.5 on OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 and can't seem to find it.

The latest incarnation of iMovie doesn't offer the 'Export with Quicktime'-options, the previous versions did.

Music metadata editor for S60 5th

Is there a musin metadata editor for MP3 and/or AAC (ID3, etc) that runs on S60 5th?
Since the player is so dependant on metadata to organize stuff it would be good to have one editor in the phone itself for the ocasional update.

It's called the Music Player
Open the Music Player then go to Options -> Song Details
You can also add Album Art there if you want.

Metadata Editor

Is there a good Mac Metadata editor? I have an oddity in some files - the time listings are way off - 2:30 songs are listed as 11:00 minutes. I would just re-rip them except these are Cd's that the label reissued to replicate the original 45 vinyl singles so there are only 3 tracks per CD - it seems easier to edit the mp3 files? Thanks.

but i am not sure it does what you want. time changing is not a common request. Some of the PC packages give more comprehensive tag access.

IPTC Metadata Editor with Spellcheck and more

Bridge and Lightroom could benefit from a robust metadata editor. Quality IPTC data is almost as important as the images themselves. Afterall that's how we and our clients will find our valuable images.
Desired Features:
Spellcheck of at least Description and Keyword fields
Thesaurus would be great for creating Keyword sets
More flexible keyword sets to allow more nesting and organizing of similar keywords
Autofill searching of previously used keywords
Desired Functionality:
Must be fast and dependable. Currently Bridge is pretty slow, writing one keyword at a time. This seems to cause Bridge to hang up on itself and spit out corrupt files or not apply metadata to random files among a large selection.
Perhaps it would be better to have the enter all metadata additions and changes at once to all selected files and hit update, append or replace. FotoStation has had a useful interface in which the user can opt to replace and/or append and/or leave alone various metadata fields all at once.
Currently it is difficult to resolve a large selection of files that all should have the same keyword(s) but some already have it. We are forced to first remove the keywords(s) by pressing the minus sign, wait for that to happen and then reenter the keyword(s). This can be painfully slow for a large batch of files. I've often resorted to manually writing a metadata template in Wordpad an appending the template. It needs to be easier than that.

The IPTC metadata needs a large amount of work across all the Adobe product line.
Desired Functions:
(1)The identical fields/names and consistent characteristics across all products that generate end-user files; for example, Audition (audio), Acrobat (PDF), Photoshop (image), video products and so on. Audition 1.5 still carries the RIFF metadata but no IPTC format data. Acrobat 7.0.7 Pro does have some IPTC like data fields but has a major data integrity problem with the Description field data. In Photoshop CS2, I can utilize CR/LF via "Enter" to make the presentation more readable as separate paragraphs or new line items. In the Acrobat "Description" field I can follow the same procedure and all looks good upon entry. I do a Save and then bring up the IPTC Description data (same file) and all the data after the first CR (Enter) is lost! Never received any error or warning message.
(2) I think this pertains mostly to generation of PDF files. Currently, when I generate a PDF document having the same location/file-name that I designate for the "new" file, I appropriately get the warning about the "same name". In addition, give me the option to have the metadata in the "old" file copied to the "new" file.
(3) Publish (at least in the Help function) all the idiosyncracies for each field (e.g., can I not do CR/LF functions?) and the maximum number of characters possible in each field. Please don't reference me to some standard for the information....tell me what the product line supports! In addition, generate warning messages if I do something outside the field support at the time I am entering data in the field. When possible include such information alongside the field window. One example of this is the note below the keyword window about the comma seperator. The problem with this particular comment is that is states "the comma MAY be used as a separator". Don't tell me what MAY be used...tell me what CAN be used (e.g., spaces, semi-colon, etc.).
(4) Major update required in the Help function for metadata. Right now it is very poor and not of much use.

Editing QuickTime Metadata Support

Hi,
Many camera today create Quicktime mov files based on h264.
While some tools can read this metadata, nothing can modify it. exiftool can read the metadata (if you rename to mp4), but writing is not supported.

I'm not sure if you meant a text track or an annotation? This applies to a text track (which would not necessarily have to be enabled in the mov file.)

If I am reading that right it seems to be saying that the limit would be the greatest length value that could be contained within a 16-bit word (two 8 bit Bytes) which would be $FFFF or 65,535 Bytes.

Accessing QuickTime metadata to get access to iMovie DV file timestamps.

Can anyone point me to a way to view DV file metadata from a QuickTime file (specifically, the .mov or .dv files captured by iMovie). I am needing to write a DV file renamer, based on the timestamp inside the DV clip, so I am hoping to be able to AppleScript it (or find a command line utility I can use to extract it).

Do you mean programs like "MetaX" or "a better finder"? I'm actually looking for something that can edit the tags/annotations for "actor", "director", "producer", etc in .mov and .mp4 files that's better than MetaX. In some files, and I haven't found a pattern yet, MetaX will take a 3.8GB file and output a 5.7GB file when adding metadata info...as such rendering the 4gb+ mp4 file unusable. (i've never been able to get an mp4 file larger than 4gb to work in itunes/frontrow)

Looking for a .pdf organizer/metadata editor

Hi,
I have a bunch of .pdf files of research papers that I would like to organized and publish to the web. I would like to be able to quickly preview the .pdf, rename, modify basic metadata like title, author, keywords and subject, and then upload to the web where the directory can be viewed or searched based on the metadata. What would you advise?
I am testing "A-PDF preview and rename" and I like the tool so far except I would like to be able to copy and past text out of the previewed document to be used in metadata fields.
I currently use CS4 with acrobat 9 pro.

I found a better, partial solution, in case anyone is interested. Cost 60 bucks but does most of what I want it to do "PDF Explorer 1.5". No frills database for .pdf files that allows copy and past into metadata fields. Still nothing on sharing the database via the net or summarizing metadata as a web gallery. Maybe bridge can do this? or Photoshop? Would be cool to be able to create a photoshop image gallery that uses the .pdf cover page as the image and includes the display of chosen metadata... I will keep plugging but am still interested in anyone's ideas on this.

Image Metadata Editor

I have been looking for inserting descriptions into my pictures. Unfortunately, there isn't any option to edit Metadata in File Explorers (I tried Thunar and Nautilus). I wouldn't like to have a photo gallery software just to do that, and, by the way, I couldn't find any of those that allows me to edit metadata in a straight-forward way. I have to navigate through a lot of menus in order to do that.
Basically, I was looking for a plugin or other software that enhanced the "Image" tab on Thunar, so I could see and edit all file metadata there. Honestly, I don't know how do you guys keep your photo albums organized without this feature.

I've found Shotwell pretty straightforward to edit tags. However, I personally also use feh + dmenu + a script I found somewhere to view and edit metadata. The latter method I find quite speedy when I've imported a bunch of photos. The script is

It requires exiv2, iptc, and dmenu. (Also ttf-dejavu, but you can edit out that font choice ) The script is not mine; unfortunately, I cannot remember where I found it.
Then in .config/feh/themes, put

Browse pictures with "feh -Ttag *.jpg" for instance, then press 1 to edit tags, press 2 to edit comments.

Quicktime Metadata handling in podcast producer batchs

Hi,
I'm wondering if there's a way to extend the amount of metadata that can be handled by the podcast producer batch so that it feets iTunes needs ?
I know that it depends of the workflow you use for the "common" metadatas (artist name, year, type, ) but what about the exotic ones : commentaries, lyrics and even illustration ?

HAZAAR! Solved it for me, hope it's the same for you. Ensure your Server HOST name is identical to your service name. IT IS CASE SENSITIVE! I had to edit the /Library/PodCastProducer/Shared/Server/memberpreferencesUUID so it matched my hostname identically, and all is now working.
You'll notice you probably have errors in /Library/Logs/pcastserverd/apache_error.log referencing SNI name not matching hostname, this is the clue. Hope this resolves it for you also.

Adding new metadata in DAM asset editor

Hi All,
I have a requirement wherein two projects reside on same instance, apps/ProjectA and apps/ProjectB . Now Project A has DAM customized, ie. a new metadata added and hence files, /apps/dam/content/asseteditors/formitems and folders with files under /apps/dam/gui/components have been modified to take care of creation of new metadata. Now my question is, Is it possible to have such DAM changes constrained to projectA alone, and Project B using default DAM?
Is it possible to overlay DAM inside the apps/ProjectA alone?

Thank you jorg, so you say by applying ACL and deny read access for project B, and if Dam folder is Overlayed under apps such as apps/dam, I can restrict modified version of DAM for project B thereby ProjectB using the foundation Dam and have modified version of dam for project A? Please correct me if I am wrong, since I have the jsp's such as child asset and metadata editor jsp modified after being overlayed.

Microsoft Pro Photo - Geotag metadata in Lightroom

Geotagging (embedding location information in image metadata) has occasionally been mentioned in posts in this forum, but I just thought I'd share my recent experiences with Microsoft Pro Photo Tools (MPPT) with those that may not be aware of its existence/capabilities.
MPPT is essentially a metadata editor with Geotagging capability - and it is free (
). Since version 2 it has supported Adobe's XMP sidecar file format. I've recently used it with the following workflow to tag my images with location info directly from a separate GPS:
1. Whilst shooting pictures, I carry around my Garmin GPS, recording my track (optional).
2. Back at home, I download my images into LR, automatically adding copyright metadata, etc to all files at import.
3. I download the track information from my Garmin GPS, saving it as a GPX file.
4. I then open up the track GPX file and the images in MPPT.
5a. Based on the date/time exif data embedded in the image file and the date/time information in the track file, MPPT automatically identifies the location of each image and displays them on a map.
5b. If you have no GPS, you can easily enter in location and fine tune on a map. For example, enter "Seattle Art Museum" and the selected images are associated with the location of the Seattle Art Museum and shown on a map for you to fine tune!
6. With one click, MPTT then writes location metadata (Country, State, City, Location, etc) to either the original image file or the sidecar XMP (depending on user defined configuration) - I write the data to XMP.
7. Back to Lightroom and sync metadata (one click). At that point, all the location metadata is visible within the Library module.
I was impressed how easy this all was. One day this capability may well be within LR, but until then this is an easy way to geotag your images.

Extending DAM Asset Editor formitems and grouping new fields into a widgetcollection

I'm a newbie so be kind pretty please...
We have a requirement for one of the websites hosted on our CQ instance to have some extended DAM properties for PDF files.
Eg. Summary (textfield) and Search Weighting (selection)
We have added a new namespace with our new items/properties underneath:
/apps/dam/option/metadata/edexcel
We’ve also extended the pdf asset editor by adding the new fields to formitems under:
/apps/dam/content/asseteditors/application/pdf/formitems
And we are getting the expected result in DAM editor in that when we choose to open a PDF we have new fields to edit our new properties.
We have also been able to prove that using group permissions we can tailor it so that only specific website authors see these extended PDF fields; essentially making the extension local to an individual website.
The issue we are having is trying to assign group permissions so that we can deploy and maintain these in the best possible way. What we are trying to do is group these new fields in formitems into a widgetcollection so that we can assign the permissions we need at one widgetcollection level rather than needing to assign at individual field level.
I have tried creating a widgetcollection under formitems and adding my new fields within and this works ok up until the point when I try to assign read permission at the widgetcollection level. Then what happens is I can no longer ‘open’ a PDF at all.
Is there a way that we can do this? Can you suggest any alternative solutions please?

Lightroom metadata and Bridge compatibility

Dear members:
I have some questions I would like to have answered prior to deciding whether I should invest on Ligthroom and thought I would post them here to get some input. They are:
1. Is metadata assigned to a DNG file by Lightroom interchangeable with Bridge ? Are both applications equivalent in the way they assign metadata and process image files ?
2. Is the processing of RAW files by Lightroom the same as that done by Bridge ? In other words, are the same Camera Raw algorithms used by both Bridge and Lighroom ?
3. Can I process images in Lightroom while keeping these images in their own folders without having to import these images into Lightroom's own database ?

3.You keep images where you want. Still have to import images for the dB functions that LR is all about. It is a Metadata editor, so >import.

LR4 - Hierarchical Keyword Metadata Writing Problem

Having found a problem with LR4 in reading hierarchical metadata from photo files, I now seem to have found a similar problem when writing metadata to files.
As before, I use hierarchical keywords with the "/" character as the separator in the photo files metadata.
Let's say I assign the keyword "Christmas" to a photo. This actually has the hierarchy "Events/holidays/Christmas"
When I write out the metadata to the photo, I want, and expect, the hierarchical keyword string to be written: Events/holidays/Christmas.
Instead, what I get are three separate keywords written out separated by commas: Events,holidays,Christmas.
This is pointless - LR4 has just destroyed my keyword hierarchy and just given me a flat list of keywords.
Is this a bug, or is this indeed expected behaviour of LR4? Because if it's the latter, then LR4 is not going to work for me as a metadata editor.

That's the expected behavior of LR 3 and 4. Some background:
There is no widely accepted industry standard yet for handling hiearchical keywords. (The Metadata Working Group has defined a standard, but I don't know of any application that has implemented it yet.)
LR stores hierarchical keywords in the XMP:HierarchicalSubject metadata field (a non-standard field recognized by LR and Bridge), with the elements of the hierarchy separated by "|", e.g. Events|Holidays|Christmas. In the industry-standard field XMP:Subject, LR only stores non-hierarchical keywords. You can control whether the containing keywords (e.g. Events and Holidays) are also stored in the XMP:Subject field with the keyword options Export Containing Keywords and Include On Export.
Other non-standard approaches store hierarchical keywords in the XMP:Subject field, with the elements separated by "|", ".", or "/". For compatability, LR will recognize those hierarchical keywords when it reads metadata, controlled by the options in Preferences > File Handling. But LR always writes out its hierarchical keywords using its own non-standard approach.
Perhaps in a few years, the industry will have converged on a standard and implemented it.
