Quicktime MOV to WMV

When I try and export a movie in Quicktime to a WMV format, it only converts about 1/10th of the file.
How does one go about taking mov files and converting them into wmv files?
I just want visitors to my site that are using a WMV player to see my movies.

  • Convert flash QT.mov to WMV or MPG

    Please help!
Does anyone know the simplest way to convert a flash
animation Quicktime movie to WMV or MPG?
This is a rush, I'm working under deadline. Originally, I was
    told QT.mov was acceptable format.
Now, I'm being told that their server can only handle WMV or
MPG. When they tried to convert the
QT file it was converted without the audio track. I've tried
to download serveral of the free shareware converters -- no luck.
(either corrupted or some glitch occurs or company logo is
    embedded in converted file).
I know AE (AfterEffects) to some degree and I believe I can
export to WMV of MPG there. But this is a huge file,
trying to download it now at a cybercafe with two T1 lines --
    still it's "watching paint dry".
    Please anybody, any suggestions, please.
    Thank you.

I think the simpliest way converting flash into video - use

  • Keynote with embedded .mov exported to Quicktime and then WMV (Flip4Mac)

    Hi,
I have a Keynote with an embedded .mov file (video and audio) half way through which exports to Quicktime fine ("Keynote .mov").
When I use Flip4Mac to convert the Keynote .mov to WMV the resulting WMV file works fine but stops when the audio of the Keynote .mov stops i.e. Flip4Mac doesn't render the last of the Keynote .mov
I have sought help over at Flip4Mac tech support forum but thought someone here might know the answer.
I have tried a variety of different .mov files in my Keynote but the same in all cases: export to QT is fine but Flip4Mac stops converting the Keynote .mov at the end of any audio.
I can extract the audio track and Flip4Mac will convert the Keynote .mov (video) all the way through.
    Help?

what format are the movies you placed on your slides? This makes a big difference in if they get included in the exported QT movie.

  • Why WMV QuickTime movies don't play?

Through e-mail I often receive WMV QuickTime movies. However they don't play in QuickTime even though I have QuickTime Pro installed. In order to watch them I resort to use Windows Media Player. I thought that QuickTime was an Apple product and QuickTime movies should play with it.
    Thanks for any advise.
    Frank Secco

I thought that QuickTime was an Apple product and QuickTime movies should play with it.
It is and they do. However, WMV is a proprietary product originated by Microsoft to replace their aging AVI file container about a decade ago. It is not a QT format and since it is proprietary is copyrighted so Apple cannot legally use their codecs. As to WMP, it is Microsoft's own player application and is showing it's age since Microsoft officially dropped all Mac support back in 2003. Flip4Mac now handles distribution of the current "universal" version of the QT component which allows most common WMV variants to be played in the QT player. If you wish to watch your videos in the QT Player, then you must download the Flip4Mac QT playback component which is free. However, if you wish to be able to convert WMV files to QT compatible files, then you must purchase additional components with Conversion from WMV to QT, Conversion QT to WMV, and Conversion of HD content each have their own price tier.

  • Quicktime movie from mac to pc, HOW?

Anyone know the best way to get a high quality, high resolution Quicktime .mov file (created on a macbook pro with Keynote and iMovie HD; h.264 codec) to play from a dvd on as many PC computers as possible?
I would like to do this without requiring the end PC user to download Quicktime if they don't have it on their computer, if possible, but the quality has to remain quite high, and wmv or mpeg files just don't hold up.
I've already looked into numerous different export settings for each of the above programs, and have tried to figure out how to use with a trial of Sorenson's Squeeze to try to convert, but I just can't seem to figure it out.

First off you can just make a CD of the data and let the PC users play the file back with Quicktime. Otherwise use Toast and make a VCD which is MPEG-1 on CD vs. DVD and really weak in the qaulity department but popular in Asia and for Karaoke disks.
You can point out the the CD only crowd that a DVD burner costs less than a CD player used to cost.

  • MacBook Pro won't play .mov or .wmv files.

Since "upgrading" to Lion my MacBook Pro won't play .mov or .wmv files, all I get is a black screen and the audio.  It's so frustrating!!
I've read many other posts all along the same lines and wherever possible I've tried to follow the advice which has been given but nothing works.    I've updated all the drivers I can and I've even reinstalled Lion, nothing makes a difference.
I'm not really looking for any more advice, all I want is someone from Apple to read these posts, realise there is problem and get working on a fix or update.
I had no problems when running Snow Leopard and it would seem, looking at everyone else's problems, that the common issue is Lion.   Seriously, this is one area where Lion is a backwards step.   It should just work (like most things from Apple), but it doesn't.
Personally I believe there is a problem with Lion but from what I've found out from speaking to friends with other Apple kit, this might be a random issue only affecting some people as some have said they've had no problems while others have had the same issues as me.    One guy reinstalled Lion and it resolved the issue for him, I've not been as lucky.
As I say, I'm not really looking for more advice, simply some sort of update from Apple to fix it.   PLEASE!!!

This is a peer-to-peer user forum. Perhaps you would see more action if you and others would file a formal "Bug" report with Apple QuickTime technical people rather than repeatedly reporting a possible problematic problem which may or may not affect others on a random basis. QUICKTIME PRODUCT FEEDBACK
Since you aren't seeking further advice here is what I have observed. Not being a regular WMV file user, I had to create my own sample file to test—a WMV 9 file containing WMV3 compressed video and WMA2 compressed audio. Since I normally use QT 7 as my primary media player, I also stored the WMV data in its partially decompressed form in an MOV file container to avoid pre-playback delays in "classic" player routines and also provide a secondary playback test of MOV wrapped content. These files play as follows using the Flip4Mac component/player support and uncoded URL uploads:
QT 7.6.6 "Open File" - both files play correctly.
QT 7.6.6 "Open URL" - both files play correctly.
QT X.1 "Open File" - WMV file plays correctly. MOV file plays video without audio.
QT X.1 "Open Location" - WMV file appears to open but plays with "black" screen and no audio. MOV file plays video without audio.
VLC "Open File" - WMV plays correctly. MOV file doesn't open,
VLC "Open URL" - WMV file plays correctly. MOV file appears to open but nothing plays.
MPEG Streamclip "Open File" - both files play correctly.
MPEG Streamclip "Open URL" - both files play correctly.
GarageBand - WMV file will not import but MOV file does.
iTunes - WMV file will not import. MOV file container is accepted but as soon as iTuness sees the compression formats, it aborts import.
Safari - WMV file URL auto-downloads and playes in the QT X.1 Player. The MOV file URL opens and plays in Safari.
As you can see from these results the files do play but are subject to many different constrints based on old/new video technology support, independent QT subsets and/or container trapping constraints. In short, individual user results will depend on presence/absence of component support, actual compression formats, file container, application being used, and how the application is being used. Unfortunately, most users here can't or won't provide the prerequisite information or a sample file for independent examination. This makes it next to impossible to give advice in these matters or categorize the specific nature of the problem.

  • Why does it take so long to render a quicktime and/or wmv file?

I hope you can help with this! It's taking me forever to save a project as a qt file. I'm saving in expert settings with LAN/Intranet or broadband-high as the setting. In Imovie 4.0.1 I could usally render a 6+ minute project in under 10 minutes with those settings...in Imoive 6 HD it's going to take 3 times as long.
In a seperate issue...when I try to save my project as a wmv file it will only save the first :30 seconds or a six minute project.
Anyone have any ideas? What am I doing wrong? Thank yo for your advice!!!!

I'm saving in expert settings with LAN/Intranet or broadband-high as the setting.
As others have suggested, the type of export you are doing is apparently different than you did in iMovie 4.
Note that the LAN/Intranet and broadband-high you selected is only the second part of the export settings. It affects the size of the movie and indirectly, its quality. There's less compression with the LAN/Intranet setting and it delivers great quality.
The first part is the type of QuickTime movie to export to, selected from the popUp menu above the menu where you picked the LAN/Intranet setting. There are many choices offered in the top popUp menu, and for some, other settings to configure (optional).
If your export used the H.264 codec to compress the movie then Yes, the export will be slower than seen with other codecs. It's a very high quality codec, so the export is slower than others. That's the price we pay for quality I guess. (A price I happily pay. I usually do some other task on the computer as it chugs away.)

  • MOV to WMV conversion problem

I have quicktime pro and am trying to covert quicktime mov files to wmv files. The conversion happens, but when I play the wmv file I find that only part of the mov file was converted. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

when I play the wmv file I find that only part of the mov file was converted. Any ideas on how I can fix this?
QT Pro is using the free demo codec (I assume you have the free Flip4Mac player component installed). To export full conversions you must purchase the QT to WMV export codec that comes in the $49 package. (The $29 codec only converts from WMV to QT.)

  • Flip video-FCE Editing and .mov to WMV conversion

We have bought some new Flip video camcorders- i need to edit the footage and then convert them to WMV so that they can be embedded into a powerpoint presentation.
    Here's the problem:
-The flip videos are MP4 files
    - I have been importing these files into FCE, making the appropriate edits & then exporting the final sequence as a .mov file.
    - At this stage i have a .mov that i wish to convert into WMV so that it can be embedded into the presentation. This is where the problem occurs- The video converter goes very strange, fuzzy and as though its a tv is zero reception (signal).
I have been reading up and now realise that FCE does not recognise MP4 files, so i tried:
    - Converting the raw flip video footage from MP4 to .mov
-Bringing this .mov file into FCE
-Exporting the final sequence as an .mov file & then trying to convert to WMV
This is where another problem occurs:
The convertor is only recognising the audio and not the video. I have the audio from the sequence but not the video....
I have tried varies convertors so i know it is not my regestered convertor at fault (wondershare video)
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE BLEEEEEP IS GOING ON & WHAT A SOLUTION MIGHT BE?
    MANY THANKS!!!!!

    Hi David,
Thanks for your response. I have been trying this technique but it doesn't seem to work either. I immediately converted the footage from MP4 to .mov. I then imported the .mov file into final cut express for editing. Once the sequence was ready i exported as a .mov file and then used 'wondershare video convertor' to convert from .mov to WMV. This doesn't seem to solve the problem. In this case i can get the audio but not the visual....
I have taken your advice and downloaded 'flip4mac'. I have just currently got the free trial as i want to know if it works before paying. It seems to open up in quicktime player but wont allow me to export file and convert to wmv....
What exactly is flip4mac good for and how do you use it? I know it runs hand in hand with quicktime, so in this respect isn't your standard convertor?
Do you have any suggestions? Surely it shouldn't be hard?
    Many thanks,
    Ed

  • How to view Quicktime movie on iPad

    Hi,
I have the most recent iPad Air. Yesterday I took a video with my iPhone 4S. I emailed it to myself and some others, straight from the photos app. They were able to open it up on their computers. My iPad won't play it. When I click on the attachment, it just displays a grey screen saying "Video.MOV QuickTime Movie."
I searched and others with this problem seemed to have an issue playing other formats like WMV. This is straight from an iPhone. So I can't imagine the iPad should need a third party app for this. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Try playing with free OPlayerHD Lite app.

  • Can't open Quicktime .mov file (Error -2048)

I can't open and run an 11mb QuickTime .mov file that was created, I'm pretty sure, on a Mac. I'm using a PC running QuickTime 7.2. Colleagues using PCs with QuickTime 7.0 and 7.1 can't run it either. The guy who created the file apparently has no problem running it on a Mac. My full error measage is "Error -2048: Coundn't open the file because it is not a file that QuickTime understands". Any ideas anyone?

Ask the guy that made the file what codecs are used in it. Mac users can open, save and edit .wmv files and he may have put one inside a .mov container. It will never play on a PC unless saved as .wmv extension.

  • Best Program for editing quicktime movies

What is the best program for editing quicktime movies.
For example, I have several quicktime movies in the 4:3 aspect ratio, but the video is ment to be 16:9 so there is black on the top and bottom. I want to be able to crop out the black and make the video file a true 16:9 wide screen video becuase my laptop has a widescreen 16:10 aspect ratio lcd. And when playing back these videos, you end up with a couple inches of black on the top and bottom, and right and left, so a lot of screen space get's waisted. The only programs I have found so far that can make a 16:9 quicktime video have not supported the H.264 format, and only stetch the video to 16:9 rather then croping it, so the black remains on the top and bottom and the aspect ratio is off and every one looks short and fat becuase it's not in its native aspect ratio correctly.
Does anyone have any advice on what program I should use?
Also, does anyone have any recomendatiosn for how to convert wmv files to quicktime / itunes videos? I have found one program that does so, but it comes out very blocky and the audio is out of sync with the video by a good five seconds.
    Thanks

MPEG Streamclip (free) can crop and Save As so you wouldn't need to add any new compression to the existing files.
The make a Windows version now (it used to be Mac only).
No tips on converting WMP files but you'll find dozens of solutions in the iPod Discussions pages.

  • Quicktime .mov files crash multiple applications.

I've been having issues for some time now with quicktime .mov files hard crashing multiple applications. Basically quicktime movies crash Safari and iWeb/iLife when I try and view them. Quicktime player itself quits occasionally, or just doesnt even play the movie. iWeb will crash as well consistently. Bad thing is, that it's a hard crash for me, and there is never even a box stating that it crashed. So I get no opportunity to send a bug report. The applications just quits instantly. nothing in the crash report either. all other movie formats work fine, ie. mpg, avi, wmv.
Firefox can view the same movies fine for some reason.
I can even make a new site in iWeb, add one movie page, drop a movie in, go away from that page creation, then go back to it and the app will crash, with no dialogue boxes whatsoever.
I've tried tossing all quicktime prefs, going back to QT 7.01 then back up to 7.04, no help. My powerbook works fine, and it's on the same level, all OS updates like my G5. If I bring the iWeb file over to the G5, from the powerbook, that I was having no problem editing on the powerbook, it will crash iWeb immediately upon viewing a page with the movie in it.
I'm really close to re-installing teh OS completely, but hoping we find a solutin before then.
I do have a retail Mac Edition Radeon 9800 Pro in this machine, could be issues, but I have found no articles stating such. I also have flip4mac installed. I updated it to the latest, and I do not have any .avi files in my movies folder, so it shoudn't be an issue. This all started happenning around the install of iLife '06 when I first repeatedly noticed it on the movie pages in iWeb. It might have happened earlier, but I wrote it off. It was just really annoying when trying to make iWeb pages with movies.

1] Try it with another user account (make one if you need to in Apple menu > System Preferences > Accounts)
2] If its only happening in your account:
Inside your hard drive, in the Users folder should be your user home folder (with your account name.) Within that folder is a folder called Library... open that and look for a QuickTime folder within, pull that QuickTime folder out to the Desktop. Do the same for Internet Plug-ins and throw away the ~/Library/Caches/QuickTime folder too. Then, open Preferences and pull out com.apple.quicktime... (all of them) and the QuickTime Preferences file.
Then log out (Apple menu) and back in (or restart) and try again.
3] If its happening for all users then try:
Pull the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plist to the desktop (Your QuickTime Pro registration is in that file so don't throw it away, just move it out, restart and try again.)
4] If there are still problems, try repairing your disk either with the OS X install disc (run Disk Utility from the menu bar) or by rebooting in Singel-User-Mode and running fsck. Then repair permissions with Disk Utility.

Question what is the best settings to convert a Quicktime.mov file (40mb) done in HD 1080i wide formate to a windows media file so I can send in an email for review. I use FCE 3.5.1 apple G5 computer, I'm not sure of the settings in FCE for output to compres the file, I know it won't look very good it is just for a review of content
    Regards

The settings will depend in part on how small you need to get the file. And exactly what format you want to use. Are you talking Windows Media literally (wmv) or just something that will open on a windows machine (such as mp4)
