Quicktime .mov won't move!

I have saved a short clip of falling snow from You Tube into a .mov file that plays in Quicktime. Is it possible to drag this into iMovie? Export and Share in the File drop down menu are not available. TIA.

I have the exact same problem. They play on my Mac under Snow Leopard. Transfer to Vista gets a window with black and white and some other noise. No sound either.

  • Quicktime x won't play movies

I have snow leopard, mac os 10.6.2 and quicktime x. Ever since I upgraded to snow leopard whenever I put movies into my mac they won't play. They use to automatically play but now they don't. I can't manually make them play either. When I open quicktime it won't even recognize a movie is in. When the movie pops up on the desktop and I open it, it opens as the audio and video file folders and not the actual movie. Any help?

Are these movies employing legacy codecs and/or require a third-party component package like Perian? If so, have you updated the needed components that will work under the QT X/7 combined structure/QTkit?

  • In OSX 10.9, Quicktime movies won't play

Plug-in not "visible" in list even though Quicktime is installed. In this OS, we cannot "reinstall" Quicktime because it's built into the OS. How can I get the QT videos to run inside Firefox?

You said that QuickTime movies won't play "inside Firefox". Do they play inside Safari or when you directly access a QuickTime Movie file that's been saved on your Mac ?
See the Firefox Support article, [[Use the QuickTime plugin to play audio and video]]. It has some test links and explains how to enable the QuickTime plugin in the Add-ons Manager, in case it's been disabled in Firefox.
Like you say, QuickTime is built into the operating system on Mac OS so if you can't enable the browser plugin in Firefox or if it's missing, your best bet would be a Mac forum such as https://discussions.apple.com/

  • Quicktime movies won't play on Apple Website

I formatted my HD and reinstalled Snow Leopard. Last night and this morning I was watching the videos on http://www.apple.com/business/theater/#activecorners?sr=hotnews.rss, but tnight when I went back there, the movies won't play, nor will any other movies on the entire website. All I get is a Quicktime Icon with a question mark in the middle of it. I have both Quicktime X and Quicktime Pro 7 installed, with Pro in the Utilities folder.

After loading the AppleMPEG2.Component into the Quicktime folder in the Library, everything started working again. I'm not sure if that's what made it start working again though.

  • ITunes rented movies won't play on my PC.  "This movie required QuickTime which this version of iTunes doesn't include.  So I downloaded QT but movies still won't play.  HELP

iTunes rented movies won't play on my PC.  "This movie required QuickTime which this version of iTunes doesn't include."  So I downloaded QT 7 but movies still won't play.  HELP  Very frustrating.

Ok nw the rented film is on the iPad which won't play and when I looked at the Mac I was greeted with an error message saying that the film could nt be transferred because the file had already been transferred somewhere else!  Thing is I can see it on theioad and the Mac still!
Obviously the film Kees checking where it as you can't watch it in two places at the same time. I can understand that but I knw it's not anywhere else.
The only thing I can think of is if when time machine backs it up it thinks it's being watched!
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Movie won't play on computer say quicktime is incompatible

downloaded purchased movie won't play on computer say quicktime is incompatible. I get this message for Hannibal Rising: This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes.

First, thank you for taking the time to respond.
This is the recorder I have: Sony DVD Recorder & VHS Combo PlayerRDR-VX515:
    http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SYDisplayProductInformation-Start?CategoryName=hav_DVDDVDRecorders&ProductSKU=RDRVX515&TabName=feature&var2=
The specs stated that it does record MPEG video.
The Mac mini is a super drive w/ + & - capability. I guess I'll have to buy another recorder to get this to work.

  • Why does quicktime 10 keep reloading movie and won't quit?

When I try to quit quicktime after watching a movie, it just keeps reloading the movie. I've tried force quit, and clicking on file to quit, but it keeps reopening. I'm using Firefox, so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it?
    Any help would be apprecitated!

    Hey there AmandaJoelle,
It sounds like your Quicktime application is quiting unexpectedly. I recommend the following article to help troubleshoot possible issues with 3rd party plug-ins, named:

  • Quicktime Player - won't play movie

I have a movie file which works on my old 10.6 Snow Leopard machine (it's a m4v file), but Quicktime player under 10.8 refuses to play it. Whenever I try to open it, it complains of a missing codec (but doesn't state what). However I can watch the preview in Quicklook. If I try to watch it in VLC, the sound comes out all distorted and sounds like something from the 80s, while the 10.6 machine plays it nicely.
I've tried to copy it via various methods incase it's getting corrupted in transit, but I get the same result.
Any tips or recomendations for a movie player that might play this file?

    Hi Sam,
.m4v is the format and codec is the component / resource used build the movie i.e m4v is a box that is carrying the movie and the movie was created using codec like MPEG or MPEG2 or H264 and so on...
http://perian.org try to get this App or http://mplayerx.org/download.html, try to update your VLC player....
    Good luck...

  • Movie won't override / record over

    Hello all.
I'm working on a project that will be exhibited that requires me to switch between two movies while recording.
While movie 1 plays, movie 2 records. As movie 2 plays, movie 1 records.
If I start my computer and run the program, it'll run well, but over time it won't override movie 1 or 2. It will also play back footage that was deleted as well.
Is there anyway of clear/resetting/restarting some sort of cache or buffer. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it feels like over time as2 or media live encoder won't record new footage or plays old footage.
    edit:
    I'm using Vista currently.
Perhaps before I added the 10 second interval, I had the movie recording too long?

17 KB's means it is a "reference movie" and the true source is somewhere else.
Any change the file was served from a "streaming server"? URL usually is RTSP instead of HTTP.
QuickTime Pro can't save files served from streaming servers.
Last is that you must let the entire file download completely before using the disclosure triangle in the controller to "Save".

  • Suddenly all movies won't work in Safari

Suddenly all quicktime or flash movies won't work in Safari. Just has the Quicktime logo with a question mark in the middle. I have the latest browser for Panther. What's the deal? It's a bit annoying seeing as I make films myself and can't test my uploads to You tube and so on. Help! Please.

Same problem here. My extended problem is every time I re-install Flash Player, the movies work fine - UNTIL I need to exit Safari or shut down. When I bring it up again, the Question Mark is back. Also when I repair permissions the page just fills up with Flash Player Repairs. Looking for a pattern, I am now repairing permissions each time I re-install and my G4 iBook AND Intel duo does the same extensive repairs with each install. Help?

  • Please help! My old movies won't play anymore.

    Hello,
I have a bunch of old movies from my old phone downloaded in iphoto. Up until yesterday I was able to play these movies by simply clicking on them, but I just noticed that won't play anymore. I can still see the still frame of them, but they won't play in either iphoto or quicktime. My newer movies play fine. I'm pretty sure I have all new updates for iphoto and quicktime. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
    Thanks!

I'm having the same issue.  I just watched these videos only 2 weeks ago...

  • QTVR Movies won't play properly in iWeb

QuickTime VR panoramic movies won't play properly. Doesn't seem to matter what kind of iWeb page I use. The movies respond normally when opened with QuickTime Player. The seem to fail only when placed into iWeb.
First, there are no VR controls visible. What controls there are don't respond when clicked. Second, the mouse curson doesn't change when moved over the movie placeholder. Third, the only image within the movie placeholder is the first frame.
I tried several QTVR panorama movies with the same result. I also verified that none of the available movie controllers will function. I have already searched on QTVR in this forum and found none of the few suggestions offered to work.
    Any new ideas?

We've recieved your file and got it to work in iWeb. Here's what to do:
As always, place a text box in iWeb the size of the dimentions of your QTVR movie. Put some text in the box something like "QTVRMOVIECODEHERE"
After Publishing your site locate your "QTVRMOVIECODEHERE" text and replace it with
    <embed src="http://URLWhereYourFileis.mov" width="320" height="240"></embed>
Another way you can do it is store the QTVR file on your host. If you are using .mac you can store it in your sites folder or Web folder. From the sites folder the URL for your file would be homepage.mac.com/YourUserName/YourFolder(if any)/YourQTVRMovieName.mov
Then place a hyperlink to your files URL in your iWeb page.
Here is the working QTVR file in an iWeb page:
    http://iWebFAQ.com/QTVR/IniWeb
Or if you'd like you can you can hyperlink to http://iWebFAQ.com/QTVR/twofish.mov

  • My file .mov won't load (or) play when put on the server ?

My file .mov won't load (or) play when put on the server ? Yet it works fine in my local network.
The source in DW is = vid.jpeg and the link = vid.mov
I opened the movie in QuickTime player and save it for the web. I pasted what was required...
Can someone help me with this one ?

Could be any number of things. We would need a link to the actual on-line page to diagnose further.

  • 15.47gb movie won't go onto a 64gb memory stick?

I have a 64gb memory stick that has 37gb available storage left. The Quicktime movie won't copy over and I get a message that says 'it is too large for the volume's format' and then it doesn't copy over. This is very frustrating as I don't have a lot of storage left on my MacBook and the extra 15gb would be useful. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know. I don't want to have to restore the memory stick because I have other files on there that I don't have saved anywhere else. Thank you.

The key part of the error message is "for the volume's format" (as opposed to "for the space available"). Sounds like the memory stick is in the "FAT32" file system format, which limits the size of a single file to just under 4GB.
More modern file systems (including HFS+ on Macs, NTFS on Windows, and exFAT) support larger files, but changing the file system format for your memory stick would destroy the 27GB of files already on it, as you noted.
Your best solution would be to acquire another memory stick and format it as HFS+ if you plan to use it only on Macs or exFAT is you also want to access it from Windows systems. Better still, get two and use one to make backup copies of this movie file and the files on your old memory stick that you say you don't have saved anywhere else.

  • I have a an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes. All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem.

I have an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes.
All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem. The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it  just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.
    Can anyone please help me.

    The mystery remains....
Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.
    Thanks
