Quicktime Movie buffer overflows

Since yesterday, I do not seem to be able to watch DRMed Videos from the iTunes store.
At first the video runs fine but then the picture stops, starts to jump and finally Quicktime aborts with a Buffer overrun warning. Sometimes I just see green frames.
Audio works fine. I tried other Quicktime movies and they seem to work fine. I only experience that witht he purchased TV shows.
Any advice?
Thanks

Now something really strange is happening. On my macbook over my home wifi, I cannot access my web page(www.prisonbreak.net23.net). Not only on my macbook but on all the computers another macbook and a PC I cannot access the page. So I figured that it was just the site down, but I tried on my iphone and it can access it unless its connected to my home wifi??? it playes the movie as well as the movie is formatted for iphone and computer. The funny thing is I tried it again on my macbook and it loaded the page but when I clicked pilot it loaded the page without the quicktime movie. I reloaded the page and it wouldn't load again. The error is this in firefox.

    i click on quicktime

    what to do? thanx!

    Hey,
So, thats not an easy matter since barely no one here is working with it. Did you already talked to the programmer of the application? I checked the site and the do not guarantee that the drive encryption works under all computer configuration.
So, maybe you can try TPM encryption which is integrated in Vista and can encrypt your drive too. Its secure and it does not cost anything; its doing the same job like your compusec and you have official support from microsoft.
First of all, perform a bios update and check your bios settings. I cannot really help you since I never worked with that compusec, but you should visit the CE-Infosystems website and ask in their forum for known bugs with tohshiba notebooks/Santa Rosa platforms/etc...
I hope you have some luck, otherwise I would suggest you to try TPM.

  • Quicktime causes buffer overrun and does not work

I just tried to update to Quicktime 7 (7.0.4). It installs fine.
When I visit the movie trailers page on Apple.com
I try to play a clip and I get an error message that says buffer overun (trying to play keynote address in wuicktime application)
or an error message that says plugin performed an illegal operation and then it crashes my firefox browser.
It seems there are a lot of bugs with quicktime 7, I have tried standalone downloads of 7.0.3 and 7.0.2, they don't work either.
I have tried installing in safe mode and the installler will not work. what next?
do I actually have to reinstall windows to get it to work or do i have to go through the hassle of manually attempting to clear all of the clutter off of the hard drive and tinker with registry settings and try again?
Is there an explanation from APPLE to rectify these problems or will I just have to give up using your product?
Is there going to be a fix or is apple not supporting quicktime for windows anymore?
Too bad version 6 was messed with. It worked perfectly.

I'm having the exact same problem, since the upgrade this week.
iTunes does an immediate shutdown when it’s clicked. No errors are reported.
I automatically thought of Quicktime and when I clicked on it, I get a immediate shutdown as-well, but in Quicktime’s case I get an error window that states “Buffer Overflow error”.
I’ve tried to uninstall Quicktime from the Add/Remove programs in the Control panel. It flashes, does not report any errors and appears to be removing the program (Quicktime). But, when all is finished Quicktime remains in the Add/Remove programs list and it has not been removed.
Just to see what would happen, I installed Quicktime all by itself, and then tried to removed it VIA Control Panel. Same experiences (Quicktime remains in the Add/Remove programs list and it has not been removed).
I’ve removed iTunes a couple of times and tried to re-install (using defaults). Same problem exists (i.e. ‘Buffer Overflow error’).
I reinstall DirectX. Same problem exists (i.e. ‘Buffer Overflow error’).
Can Quicktime be removed manually? (i.e. delete files\directories, and Registry edits)?
Or is this just a nightmare to perform?
Does anyone have any other thoughts I can try?

  • Microsoft C++ Buffer Overflow Error

I have created two movies from iPhoto on my Mac. When I move them to an XP machine, sometime after 30 minutes of playing, I get the Microsoft C++ Buffer Overflow Error message, and Quicktime for Windows aborts. I have no problems playing them to completion on several Macs.
I upgraded to the latest QT version, still see the problem.
    Any help appreciated.

You're having the same issue as I...see my post here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=672272&tstart=30
Unfortunately, though, I have not gotten a response to my original post.

  • Quicktime Mov with H264 codec keeps crashing.

Hi all, i keep getting an buffer overflow when viewing several mov, h264 videos.
The problem seams to be an memcpy witch is made by quicktimeh264.scaler.
    Any way to fix this?

I've tryed updating everything(Quicktime, OS), but still the problem remains.
I can use windows + vlc to view the files without any crash...

Almost every file created by ffmpeg in h264, makes quicktime component h264 scaler crash after about 30 minutes of playing / editing.
Not sure i understand your solution, there seams to be an exploitable bug in quicktime, witch crashes any app that uses quicktime for playback.
Mpegstream will play the file almost for sure, but this doesn't fix the quicktime bug.

  • Buffer overflow

I have created executable file, tested it for several days on my laptop and send it to the customer together with hardware.
As soon as he received it he  faced buffer overflow problem.
Is it possible to eliminate this poblem?
When this error appeares the part of the program that does acceleration analysis still workes but signal generation stopped.
Unfortunately I do not have this hardware  so I have to modify the program wihou testing it.
What are the ways to avoid buffer overflow(one of them is probably just to use DAQmx configure input buffer but I do not know where to insert it and how configure it).
    Attachments:
    Generator-Accelerometer New.vi ‏636 KB

Here is what I see is happening.
You are using DAQ assistant in the 2nd loop to acquire 1000 samples at 1000 Hz  It is set for continuous samples.  So that will take a second.  Then the data is passed of to the other functions.  I don't know how long they would take to run, but they are pretty substantial.  (By the way, your write measurment file as no data going into it.)  If it takes longer than a second, then the DAQ functions which have been continuing, will have the buffer overwritten and you will get the error.
You could ignore the error, but that also means you've lost data which may or may not be important.
It is better to pass the data off into a queue.  Let another parallel loop do the number crunching and saving to file.  Search the labview help and the discussion forums for producer/consumer design architecture for examples.  With only the DAQ assistant in the loop, you will get all of the data.  The only risk would be if the queue would grow without bounds in the event that each chunk of data still takes longer than a second to process.
Putting a wait statement in the top loop as well will help.  Without a wait statement, a loop will run as fast as it possibly can.  Since you are mainly reading a local variable and some controls such as the stop button, you probably don't need to run instantaneously.  Even a small wait of a few milliseconds can help yield processor time to other loops.
In your top loop, you are recalculating the waveform and writing it to the analog output on every iteration.  It would be better to put that code in a case statement that only executes in the event the values change.  I believe with continuous samples, and if you allow that channel to regenerate its data, the analog output will run continuously without needing to update it every iteration.
Also, please move your front panel down and size it to fit closer to the front panel controls. For some reason your VI appears with the title bar off the top of the screen.

  • Embedded Quicktime movies and DOM layering?

Is there any way to overlay something on top of a quicktime movie in a web page without the quicktime movie showing through it?
    http://www.boozhowtooz.com/trailer
I have a low res and high res version of a trailer where clicking the high res link overlays the movie in the a thickbox on the page. depending on the browser, the low res movie with show through the layer.
I've been searching the web for a solution but the best one I've found is to remove the low res movie with javascript when the high res link is clicked. not exactly ideal but doable if that's the only thing that works.
Is this a general problem with the quicktime plugin and dom layering?

I'm sorry for saying that David, but you are not right in this point. You would have right if you say that every web page embedded object (flash, quicktime, activx, etc.) has a parameter (wmode, window mode) which is set to true by default. BUT if you are using flash object (flash video) you can set the wmode parameter - as far as I know there are no other embeddable objects which accept this parameter.
And I think it's a bug, and not in browsers but (in this case) in Quicktime - I can't understand why Apple can't solve this problem. It's one key problem why most web developers (neither I) can't use QT on more complex web pages or in web applications. Easy examples:
__ you can't drop a popup over a QT video (you can do it with a Flash video)
__ you can't embed QT into fixed header/footer web pages with scrolling content (it overflows the header/footer
__ you can't put any navigation over QT objects (imagine the situation: I'm working on an UI which has self slide-bar to navigate within a video, you can add/remove annotations, logs, messages etc. and not for just one video but for more synchronized ones > you I'll need a scroll-bar to display all of these, but if you scroll the videos 'under' the navigation hides the navigation...)
So to conclude this short message: In my opinion this is a big problem with Quicktime, and I'm wondering why such a big company like Apple can't manage this problem (probably the web 'market' of QT is not big enough - in fact this is an issue why web developers don't like QT embeds...)
    Thanks.

  • Problem using BufferToImage with Quicktime movs.

I have modified the FrameAccess.java in an attempt to grab frames from a quicktime movie and output them as jpeg sequence. While I can use FrameAcess to grab the frames of an avi, I cannot get it to output frames from the quicktime movie.
The qicktime movie I am using plays fine within jmf (in fact it was generated by jmf) and it plays fine within the standard quicktime player.
However, when I use the bufferToImage method on a quicktime movie, it always outputs a null image (I have tried various methods).
I have provided my complete code (which has a hardcoded link to a quicktime file). Any ideas? Has anyone been able to do this? Perhaps I have a format error? Should jmf really be this confusing?
    Thanks,

    Andyble,
Thanks for the suggestion. When I use your line, my Image is no longer null (and the resulting BufferedImage is not null either), but it outputs a "black" in the jpeg file. Any other ideas? What did you mean by a -1 F for the frame rate? Did you mean changing the format to a negative 1 frame rate? I tried that, but it did not seem to have any change. Can you let me know if I misunderstood that. Thanks.

  • Doing Data acq. and buffered period measurement using counters simultaneously, gives an buffer overflow error

Iam doing Data acquisition using NI-PXI 4472 and buffered period Measurement using NI-PXI 6602 simultaneously,my program gives an buffer overflow error

    murali_vml,
There are two common buffer overflow and overwrite errors.
Overflow error -10845 occurs when the NI-DAQ driver cannot read data from the DAQ device's FIFO buffer fast enough to keep up with the acquired data as it flows to the buffer (i.e., the FIFO buffer overflows before all the original data can be read from it). This is usually due to limitations of your computer system, most commonly the result of slow processor speeds (< 200 MHz) in conjunction with PCMCIA DAQ boards, which have small FIFO buffers (e.g., the DAQCard-500). Sometimes using a DAQCard with a larger FIFO can solve the problem, but a better solution is to lower the acquisition rate or move to a faster system. Another cause of the -10845 error could be due to an interrupt-driven
acquisition. For example, PCMCIA bus does not support Direct Memory Access (DMA). If the system is tied up processing another interrupt (like performing a screen refresh or responding to a mouse movement) when it is time to move data from the board, then that data may get overwritten.
Overwrite error -10846 occurs when the data in the software buffer that you created for an analog input operation gets overwritten by new data before you can retrieve the existing data from the buffer. This problem can be solved by adjusting the parameters of your data acquisition, such as the lowering the scan rate, increasing the buffer size, and/or increasing the number of scans to read from the buffer on each buffer read. Additionally, performing less processing in the loop can help avoid the -10846 error.
See the NI-DAQ Function Reference Manual for a listing of all NI-DAQ error codes.
    Have a great day.

MB and the CPU to about 100% and the error was displayed. The code shows the error that device buffer is overflowing when I use the program on a new machine even for one module with cDAQ9172 but when I switch it back to the original machine it works for single module but not for multiple.
As the error suggests. I tried switching the update views in "Update
signals while running" and "Prepare log data for viewing" off but it
still did not help. If I switch both these off I wont be able to see
what kind of impact data I am collecting. Please do correct me if I am
    wrong.
I  need to colelct the impact data on a printer and I have
a many locations on it that I need to collect data from.  Please
suggest a solution for this problem.
Also, if i try using the same project on some other machine it gives me an error indicating some log component files are missing from signal express and need to be installed. This happens when i transfer the project from one machine to another.
    Thank you.

    Stu,
You will still be able to print your data in a later step when setting the two options recommended by the error code.  What is likely happening when you try to move the project is that the project has log files still associated with it from previous attempts.  You should save a copy of the project and in that copy delete the log files, then try to move the project over.  SE projects are directly associated with the log files they create. This should allow you to move the project to a new computer.
When you go to run your project, you should shut down as many background processes as possible, such as IM clients.  If you can disconnect from your network, I would suggest doing that and turning off any antivirus/anti-spyware software you have to free up resources.
    A couple of further questions:
Are you connecting to a USB 1.0 or USB 2.0 port?  You should be able to determine this by opening the device manager on your computer and expanding "Universal Serial Bus" section. If any of the drivers have "Enhanced" in their name, you have a USB 2.0 port.
Does this behavior repeat with any combination of the three modules?  For instance, does it work if you just have module one, module two, or module three install?  Do you still get the error if module two and three are used instead of one and two? (This will help determine if we are encountering a problem with the modules or with SE)
Finally, if you create a project that contains only one step that only reads the data off of all three modules, do you still get the error? (This will help isolate the problem)

  • How many times can you "Export - Quicktime movie" the same ProRes 422 file until it starts to lose quality?

Lets say you are done with your project & you want an uncompressed copy of it as your master. If you keep importing it back into Final Cut Pro, & keep exporting (Quicktime movie), will it ever start to lose quality?

I've never seen a number given, but would think it is very high.
    Apple describes ProRes here:
    About Apple ProRes
    And in that document says:
"while remaining visually lossless through many generations of decoding and reencoding."
I don't think I've ever seen degradation caused by recompression or multiple compassion, but as a workflow if you output a master file, then re-import it to add graphics and export that, you would only be 1 generation down from the master file. If you wanted to make multiple versions, you can always go back to, and re-import,  the master file and make the changes, then export, so all you exports stay only 1 generation down from the master file.

  • Unable to Sync Quicktime Movie Clips with IPOD

I am a new ipod user having difficulty syncing Quicktime movie clips to IPOD.
Clips are saved as .mov files and Itunes will play.
However I cannot get them to sync woth IPOD.
Any ideas - Do I need to convert to annother format?

First you need to import your movies into iTunes. Do this by opening iTunes <File> <Import> <Movies> then choose the movie you want to put on your iPod. Make sure the movie has .mov at the end otherwise it won't be set up the way it's supposed to be.
Once the movie is imported into iTunes right click on it so a pull down menu appears. Click on <Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone>. It should begin converting it on its own and when it's done you'll hear the typical sound that happens after importing a cd, telling you the operation is complete.
After it's converted, you will have 2 identical movies in your menu. If you <Get Info> on each, you should be able to see which is newest version; that is the movie you are going to want to sync.
Then plug your iPod in to iTunes, go to the movie tab in iPod summary and check off the converted movies you want to sync to your iPod. Press <Sync> and that should add your movies to your iPod.
    Hope this helps.

  • Quicktime movie rendering for time lapse does not work in CS4

    Hey guys,
I m trying to render a time lapse video on PS CS4 and the process works well up until the export window. When i go there the first option under file options, quick time export, is unavailable( grayed out). The only available option is Image sequence. What do i have to do to enable the quicktime movie creation or any other movie format for that matter? Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum.
For PS CS4, I assume that you have PS-Extended. Is that correct?
    What OS/platform?
Do you have Apple's QT installed on that computer? If so, what version?
    Good luck,

  • Quicktime movies don't show in browser

Was having trouble with quicktime movies playing in Safari and Firefox. Each time I got the broken Q, I would restart the computer and it would work for a while. Upgraded to OS X(10.5) in hopes that might help. It didn't. No matter what I do no Quicktime in browser or a places like myspace. Any ideas?

  • Output quicktime movie choppy and less sharp than original

    Goodmorning!
I am planning to make a stand alone movie of my footage that I can keep and watch on my iMac. My sequence was made on FCP 7 on 1920 x 1080 with Prores 422 codec.
I did a few tests with exporting to quicktime movie (standard settings), because I have read several times that converting this way results in more or less the same quality. When I compare the videoquality of the Quicktime movie with playing the footage on the timeline fullscreen (+view-external video-all frames+), I am very disappointed. Not only is the sharpness of the quicktime movie less than the original, the movie plays very choppy (not fluently at all) .
My question is: is that result to be expected? May I compare a quicktime movie with the original as described before?
Or maybe I should export the sequence in a more sophisticated way?
The quicktime outcome was about 30 seconds and resulted in a file of about 500 MB. My wish is that the size of the file will not be bigger.
I hope that you can help me. Thanks in advance.

    Tom,
Three times "correct" to your three questions.
Opened the exported file in the QuickTime player, Movie Inspector said:
    Structure: Apple ProRess 422 , 1920 x1080 (1888 x 1062) millions, 16-bit integer (little indian) Stereo 48000 khz
    Bps: 25
    Size: 561,7 MB
    Speed: 118,53 Mbit/s
    Current size: 1882 x 1058 pixels
If I run the sequence through JED deinterlacer, the movie gets a better flow. Of course the sharpness deminish a bit too.
I hope that you can help me.
Would export in H.264 be a better option?
Maybe the 25 Bps is too high? My Panasonic SD60 produces only 17 mb Mbps.
