Quicktime movie of HD footage doesn't open in snow leopard 10.6.4

When I export HD footage as quicktime movie in my MacBook Pro, OS X 10.4.11 in Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 this .mov file does not open (is not recognized) by a snow leopard version, 10.6.4. What is the problem? What can be done?

Very odd. If you like, you can send me a short clip and I can test it on my end.

  • Export to Quicktime/Movie to MPEG-4 Quality Much Worse with Snow Leopard?

I just tried exporting an HD movie from iMovie using Export to Quicktime - Movie to MPEG-4 for the first time since upgrading to Snow Leopard and besides taking forever to export, the quality at the same settings I've used before is terrible. There's terrible macroblocking even on relatively slow moving scenes. I've exported several movies using the same workflow previously to upgrading and the video was perfect.
I use mpeg-4, H.264 encoding, 4096 bit rate, 1920x1080 HD resolution, key frame every 15 frames. It's definitely a change in the encoder as just sharing to the Media Browser results in expected quality.
As a test, I tried upping the bitrate to 5120 but it didn't help with the macroblocking.
Anyone with similar problems and/or a solution?

I've actually started noticing more artifacts using the Share to Media Browser quicktime presets. The movies that are created don't seem to be as high quality as ones I've created before. It's almost like quicktime is missing keyframes or something and then artifacting. It's not consistent. I've got one mobile formatted movie where it artifacts badly in the first minute and then not at all afterwards. It's kind of frustrating.

  • I have FCE 4.0.1 and running OS x 10.7.5  when i burn my movie the audio from my movie clips don't come through .  My Sound effects and music can be heard.  I export to Quicktime movie, make it self contained then open IDVD for an intro and burn it.

I have FCE 4.0.1 and running OS x 10.7.5  when i burn my movie the audio from my movie clips don't come through .  My Sound effects and music can be heard.  First I export to Quicktime movie, make it self contained then open IDVD for an intro and burn it.  everything sounds great in preview but then ( once again)I lose my audio from my movie clips.

Try Mixing Down the audio before export.

  • Safari 4.0.3 will not open in Snow Leopard

I did the Snow Leopard upgrade on Friday, and this morning I tried to open Safari 4.0.3. I can't. I get the following error:
"You can't use this version of the application Safari with this version of Mac OS X. You have Safari 4.0.3".
I also cannot download and reinstall it, it says "Safari can't be installed on this disk. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or newer." Huh, here I thought 10.6 would be considered "newer"...
I can open earlier versions of Safari (3 and lower) just fine.
    Help?

    Hi,
I had your same problem and I just solved it a few minutes ago: in my OSX 10.5 Applications menu (so before upgrading) some time ago I moved all my web related apps in a folder called "Internet".
When this morning I upgraded to 10.6 the installation process put all the new web stuff (Safari, iChat, Mail...) in the root of Applications folder: that's the problem, now you have both versions on your mac, the new in the Applications folder and the old ones in the subdirectory, and when you click on the icon in the dock you are tryin to execute the old app.
To solve this just move the new apps (those in the Applications menu) in the subfolder (or anywhere you have old versions) and overwrite old apps.
Hope this works also for you.
(And hope I was clear enough, sorry for my poor english )

  • Photo Editing, Photoshop elements 4.0 doesn't work with snow leopard?

Tried reinstalling photoshop elements after upgrading to snow leopard and message came back not compatible. ? , what version is that doesn't break you wallet and can do some decent photo editing including cutting and removing parts of images, pasting, etc. thanks

The latest version, 8, can be had for around $79, and is an amazing editor for the price. If you're not familiar with it's features I suggest you visit the site and see what it can do. Here's a list of several editors that support layers for editing:
Image Editors that support the use of layers:
    Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac - $80
    GraphicConverter- $35
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Acorn- $50
    Seashore- Open Source
IMO PSE gives you more bang for the buck. If I didn't have Photoshop (given to me) I would buy it in a second. Version 8 has more features that I use than PS CS3.

  • CS2 won't open on Snow Leopard - any secrets you care to share?

I just got an imac with snow leopard pre-installed...and I installed PS CS2 and low and behold - the application stalls when opening Photoshop. while installing, imac informed me that rosetta had to be installed so I agreed. Photoshop doesn't open but Image Ready opens fine (a program I don't use).
What to do? Is there something else I can try to do other than upgrading to CS5?
I've read in some of these discussions that some people have CS2 running fine and if yours does - what is the secret?
    many thanks!

This problem occasionally happens for upgrade installs. I believe what's happening for you is that your Mail dock icon points to the wrong place. This can happen if you have another copy of Mac OS X installed on another volume, or if you ever moved Mail from its /Applications folder.
If that's indeed the problem, the fix is: remove Mail from your Dock, open a Finder window and go to the /Applications folder, launch Mail from Finder, and choose the "Keep in Dock" menu item for the Mail dock icon.

  • Safari and Mail won't open in Snow Leopard

Any else having this VERY frustrating problem of Safari and Mail not opening. I've installed Snow Leopard and downloaded and installed the 10.6.1 update. Then when I try to open Safari, it says, "You can't use this version of the application Safari with this version of Mac OS X. You have Safari 4.0.3." When I try to open Mail, it says the same thing. I downloaded Safari again, and it won't even install it saying, "Safari can't be installed on this disk. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or newer." But I have 10.6.1.
    Help. Anyone? Please?
    Thanks

    HI,
Try launching Safari and Mail from the Applications folder. If it works, drag the Safari and Mail icons off the Dock. Just drag straight up. They'll go poof.
With Safari or Mail open, select the icon in the Dock/Keep in Dock.
If that doesn't help, locate these files.
    com.apple.Mail.plist
    com.appple.Safari/plist
Drag those files to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • Sirius Internet Radio doesn't work after Snow Leopard

Sirius Internet Radio doesn't work after I installed Snow Leopard. It works on my Firefox. I emptied the cache on my Safari, but still nothing. Any solutions?

The reason why Sirius Radio online won't work with Safari anymore is because Sirius radio online is only supported by a 32-bit browser. Snow Leopard and all its applications are 64-bit. The best solution is to use firefox. If you still insist on using safari..... Go to adobe.com reinstall adobe flash player. Install/update Flip4Mac. Go to setting for Flip4Mac and check off all the options under the browser tab. Then when you go into Sirius Radio online, you will get an error message, just click okay. Then when you click a station, a quicktime player will come up and you will be able to listen to sirius online radio.

  • Aperture doesn't run with Snow Leopard

I just bought a new 17" MacBook Pro and installed Aperture2. When I go to open the program I get a message that I have Aperture2 and can't run it on this computer. Huh?

I installed Aperture2 prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard. Updated Aperture 2.1.4
Problem arises VIEW browser/viewer, select a thumbnail picture, Aperture opens first picture fine, then if I scroll through other thumbs or quickly select a new thumb, it thinks about it for 2-3 minutes. All pics are NEF and about 2-3mb each. The processing time to open pictures progressively gets longer. Sitting waiting for the picture to open in Viewer is ridiculously long. I do regular software updates.
    iMac7.1 2.4 Ghz Memory 1Gb
Aperture doesn't work at all on my MBA 1.6
Apple store told me it would work but be slow. I recognize minimum OS is 2Mhz

  • Logic Express 7 won't open in Snow Leopard

    Hi
I hadnt opened my logic express 7 in a while, and in this period I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I tried to open it and it gets stuck with a message saying Loading Audio Files for "Dark FM Drive.exs"...
and it stays there with a beach ball and then I have to Force Quit.
Will my old Logic not work here?
    J

Have you tried to just open LE7 app, not a project? If it launches OK, then there is something wrong with the sound library files (could be permissions or a file-system bug). Also, if you installed SL 10.6 it makes sense to update it to the most recent and stable version, because the initial one was full of bugs, as I remember. You can also re-install LE7 (if anything else doesn't work).

  • IPhoto - Video playing doesn't work with Snow Leopard.

Under Leopard, I use to be able to download photos and small video content from my camera straight into iPhoto. If I wanted to play a video in iPhoto, I just use to double click and Quicktime would open and play the video. Now, with Snow Leopard, nothing happens when I do this. Am I doing something stupid or is this another bug?
    Thanks.

For anybody who stumbles across this thread from Google:
I had the same issue using iPhoto '08 after upgrading to 10.6. I found a CNet article that describes the fix, which is basically that we have to re-install Quicktime 7 for use with '08 from the "Optional Installs" on the Snow Leopard disc, so you will end up with both Quicktime 10 and Quicktime 7 on your computer.
    The instructions are here:

  • Mail wont open in Snow Leopard

After installing Snow Leopard, I can't open Mail, which I need to do in order to configure it with my e-mail server (Yahoo). Clicking on Mail prompts the message: ""You can't use this version of the application mail.app with this version of Mac OS X. -- You have mail.app 3.6"
    Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you've co-minglied an old install?
Check your MAIL app version...should be 4.2. If not and you can't find it, do a custom install from the SL DVD and choose to install related applications only.
If still no joy, try this - find the /Library/Preferences folder in your user/Home folder and then locate and delete this file:
    com.apple.mail.plist
*Caution* - doing this may clear your account settings so be sure to note those first in the event you are required to reconfigure, etc.

  • Mail wont open after snow leopard update

Mail refuses to open after update, when initated it flashes in the tray then disappears, has apple a fix for this problem?
    Or admits it exists.
    Thanks

Mac OS X v10.6: Mail.app won’t open, or "You can't use this version of Mail…" alert after installing Security Update 2012-004:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4424?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Fellow user Grant Bennet-Alder offers this solution:
Some users have reported this problem if the Mail Application has been moved out of the top-level /Applications folder, or duplicated in another location.
When the Security Update is done, the old version of Mail is disabled.
    The solution has been to:
    1) make certain Mail is in the /Applications folder
    2) There is no other copy anywhere else.
    3) Once steps 1 and 2 have been done, Manually download and re-apply the Security Update (2012-004) by hand.
    Security Update 2012-004 (Snow Leopard)
If the Mail.app has been LOST, it can be re-installed by applying the 10.6.8 version 1.1 combo update. But this update is quite large and it is usually not necessary:

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Many users are finding problems with the iWork apps in Snow Leopard due to not having the latest updates installed. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. My guess is that yours is updated & your husband's is not. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

  • ITunes will not open in Snow Leopard

For inexplicable reasons, iTunes will not open. I am using an Intel iMac with a 2Ghz chip and 3 gb of ram. I have tried deleting iTunes and reinstalling, deleting plug-ins, and running Disk Warrior 4.2. Nothing works, and Apple wants me to pay $29 to talk to someone on the phone. Since this is a Snow Leopard issue that seems unfair. Is anyone else running Snow Leopard unable to open iTunes, and if so, how is the condition fixed?

Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.
