Quicktime movie on mini?

I have a mini and i downloaded an audio message to my desktop. I see it in my itunes and i can hear it. However I cant get it on my mini. Is it because it has the extension .mov?????
What do i need to do to get these two messages on my mini?
thanks
jim

Open iTunes preferences and click on Advanced. Then click on the tab that says Importing. There should be an option that says "Import Using...." Select mp3 file. Then right click on the audio message in iTunes. There should be an option that says "Convert to Mp3 file" selec this and it should go on to your iPod.

  • Large Quicktime movie to fit i-DVD

    Hi people,
I have a very quick, and slightly embarassing question...
I have a movie that is approx 85 minutes in length, shot on DV PAL. When I export it as a Quicktime movie, ready to burn on i-DVD, the overall file size is 18.05GB
i-DVD then compresses it down to 5.75GB, which is way too big for a 4.7GB DVD, which is what I need to burn it onto.
What I need to do is reduce the file size by a few GB. I've used the Custom setting and reduced the quality to approx 15% but the file size is still coming out at between 17.5GB and 18.05GB.
I've tried so many settings - adjusted frame rate, sound, quality etc and still I'm not able to reduce the file in order for it to be accepted on a 4.7GB disk.
Can someone please help and advise how I can reduce the file size.
    Thanks
    Alps

    Hello Alps,
no hair pulling, please ... the stuff might end up in your DVD burner and then you're back to square one...
as i said, leave the movie as it is - iDVD is only interested in LENGTH (min)
i would recommend starting a new project. set the encoder settings first.
you'll find the encoder settings in your iDVD preferences under general. set them to best quality, this will automatically uncheck background encoding.
next import your movie and set up the menu. then go to the customize panel and click the status tab. iDVD will show you how much space each component is taking up on your disc. if everything is fine, choose file > save as disc image from the menu and get some coffee...
post back if there are problems (sure hope not)

  • Quicktime Movie compression question

This is a G5 using 10.5.8 and Final Cut Pro 5.1.4.
I'd like to submit a how-to video to a contest, and the maximum allowable size is 500 MB. My movie is presently three times that size. Is there any way I can compress a QT movie to a smaller size without too much loss of quality, or do I have to just keep editing and chopping away at the video until I get it down to one-third the length it is now? I'm afraid I'll lose too much how-to information if I do that.
I exported the 7 min. 26 sec. video as a QuickTime movie to see what size file it was, and it came out 1.58 Gigabytes.
Under Export, I see that there are also options to export to Compressor or Using QT Conversion. Can anyone tell me how, or where to find out how, to export this video at its present length, but as a smaller file, without losing too much quality? The contest will accept a variety of video formats, but when I converted the project to AVI or MP4 (Using QT Player) the quality got really bad, with a lot of artifacts, halos, etc.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Tom

Thanks Ben--it looks like it will take care of things. I note that this method shrinks down the QT viewing window and cuts down on the number of frames per second, but the quality isn't reduced too much. By doing that I will be able to send them the full 7.5 minutes of my video, reduced to a file size of about 450 MB, down from 1.58 GB.
This how-to contest asks you to send them your video over the Internet, but I don't know whether they're viewing and judging the videos on a computer or not. If they're not, then they're going to be viewing mine in a pretty small window on whatever monitor or TV they use, but it still beats chopping the video down to practically nothing so that I could send it to them in full quality.
Thanks much for taking the time to help me out.
    Best wishes,
    Tom

  • Any way to protect a quicktime movie on the net?

    Hi,
I wonder if there is any way to make a quicktime movie NOT downloadable from the web.
I have a clip I would love to show on the web but I have to make 100% sure nobody is able to download and distribute it.
Is there any way? Kiosk Mode seems not to be too safe (at least this is what I heard)
    thanks for your help

The kioskmode="true" html tag only removes the "download" part of the movie controller and would only keep QuickTime Pro users from downloading your file via the controller. It also prevents "drag and drop".
Any user could search through your page source code and find the URL to your QuickTime file. Dragging it to the "Downloads" window of Safari would allow them to keep a local copy.
"Streaming" media files (requires special server software to deliver) are the most difficult to capture. Because noting is locally cached the best an average user could do would be to save a reference copy of your file.
You could also use AppleScript to set internal flags inside the QuickTime .mov file as "un-editable". These flags can be reset using "hex editing" software but, again, beyond the scope of an average user. An example (one of mine):
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/D/
Notice that the html code "forces" the QuickTime Player app to open instead of playing in a browser window. You own "Pro". Take a look at the menu options under the File menu.
Notice that save, save as, export and share are unavailable?
It would also be very difficult to use a screen recording app to capture my movie "window".

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS6 hangs while encoding Quicktime movies

Every day I am enoding 2-3 videos 15-40 min long with AME CS6 and every second day it freezes or slows down to almost zero. The source material is mostly Quicktime ProRes 422 LT 1080 25p or Quicktime XDCAM EX 1080 25p. Target files are H264 videos in different sizes. The workstation is a MacPro 5.1 Xeon 8core, 12GB Ram and Nvidia Quadro 4000 with OSX 10.8.2. Only restart of the computer helps but just for a while then it slows down or freezes again. I am also using Davinci Resolve 9 lite which is sometimes not able to adress the QTencoder when AME is open ... ?
    Any Ideas for a solution?
    Thank you!

I think it is a problem of Adobe QT32 Server. Adobe Media Encoder is encoding all Quicktime Movies through this Adobe QT32 Server, which is somehow the link between Adobe and Quicktime. But since Adobe QT32 Server is a 32bit application and Adobe Media Encoder a 64bit application it somehow blocks the Media Encoder. And if you have other applications running which somehow try to use Quicktime codec when Media Encoder is using the Adobe QT32 Server than everything slows down or collapses. These are my observations so far. I avoid any other video application as long as AME is open. For example: I close Davinci Resolve when I want to launch AME and close AME when I want to launch Davinci Resolve. This helps so far.

  • Export a Full Quality QuickTime Movie for CD

Hello - I have an 11 min. movie, that contains mostly pics, but also some video - I will be giving it to someone to play on there computer, which will also project onto a screen, during a wedding reception. She just wants to be able to load it into her computer - what is the most effective way of doing this?
I thought about exporting to a 720x480 Quicktime movie, using Qtime Conversion in FCP, and H.264 compression - is there a better way, so that it will show the best quality? After burning the movie to a QT file onto a CD, I thought I would then give to her to download - is this the proper way to do this type of thing?
Any suggestions are most appreciated as always - thank you...

    KL -
That might be fine... thing is you WANT to have her test it. Sometimes playing large files like this (yes, even at h264) can choke a pc pushing it out to a projection unit.
I like putting it back to tape and sending it full rez out of a deck or other video camera.
I never trust PCs to even play a DVD out.

  • How to make quicktime movie export interactive.

I've keynote 09 presentation that has images and videos inserted into it. I need to share this people across on internet. I've created quicktime .mov file for this. My file size comes roughly around 500MB. Everything is fine, only problem I see is when I play quicktime file on my mac mini it is interactive, so I click on mouse and it moves to next text or next slide. Whereas same file when I run on my Windows 7 machine it just keeps flying thru it without any interaction from user. Same thing happesn when I try to play quicktime file uploaded on vimeo or smugmug.com, file just flies thru all slides without any user interaction.
Is there a way where I can make my slideshow to be interactive ?
    thanks
    -mj

The problem probably is because you are opening the QT movie with Windows Media Player
    Solution
Download Quicktime player to your windows 7 PC
Then right click the QT movie you made from keynote and select 'open with'
Then select quicktime (the QT player downloaded)
    Hope that helps

  • Edit a quicktime movie in ilife?

is there any way of cutting down a quicktime movie i downloaded from limewire in size.
it is 703mb but i would like it a bit less in size so i can burn it onto a cdr, i have not got a dvd burner?
can you do this in i-life,like i-movie or something?
    hope you can help.
    thanks

    I don't think so.
If the movie is going to be played on a computer (only), you could use QuickTime Pro (29$) or MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert it to a format such as h.264, which will preserve the quality of your movie while reducing the file size a bit. The CD will be playable on any computer capable of running QuickTime 7, but not in a DVD player.
That it's only good if the original movie is encoded in a format such as MPEG 1 or 2, Motion JPEG or similar. If the file is already a DivX file (which is likely given its provenance), it is probable that the h.264 file will take more disk space. In this case, it may be more difficult to compress the movie more than it already is, and I have no idea how to do it. (BTW if your file is in an .avi contender, it is likely that it is a DivX or a variant)
Note that if it's a DivX, even if you could burn the entire movie to a DVD, you'd need a DivX-capable DVD player (or a computer) for playback.

  • How do you view quicktime movies from MAC to TV?

I'd like to view quicktime movies from my MacBook Pro to HDTV. What do I need to do?

Not every retailer carries mini-DP to HDMI adaptors, so you might want to call ahead. If you find one, make sure that it carries audio - some won't. You can certainly find them online. Apple normally stocks a Moshi version which supports audio, but they're back-ordered at the moment. If you have trouble finding them locally, try newegg.com.
Edit: meant to add, a newer option is to get an AppleTV v3 connected to your TV, connect it to your wireless network, and mirror your Macbook Pro to the AppleTV using Airplay Mirroring. May even not be much more expensive than the adaptor+cable option. Details here:

  • Disabling Saving of Quicktime Movies In Compressor

I'm creating a bunch of Quicktime Movies in compressor and I want to disable the save as option that the end user can see. (The drop down box on the lower right). I know I can do it through HTML by setting kioskmode to true, but that seems like an extra step.
Cleaner had this function years ago - why can't I find it in Compressor?
How can I make Compressor my one stop shop to compress as a H264 quicktime file, with fast start - compressed header, flatten for playback on all computers, and disable the end-users ability to save my quicktime file through the drop down in the player.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
    Doug

iWeb doesn't write the html page code until the file is published and you would have to hand edit those files to add some code.
iWeb also uses special javascript to load QuickTime browser plug-in (and your file) and you would need to edit them to add.
The "old" html method is to add the kioskmode="true" tags and that same code can be added to the .js file made by iWeb. It stops "Pro" users from having the "Save" menu.
Since I don't have iWeb on my Mac mini, and I haven't looked very hard at the javascript code made by it, I don't have your answer.
iWeb 2 does include a QuickTime Inspector that can set some parameters but I don't know its options.

  • HD quicktime movie create page with iweb and host externally?

    I made a 3
min HD movie the file is 1.5gig I have an account with
blue host that allows me 300gigs of space. I uploaded the movie no problem.
Now i want to make a web page with a link to that movie using iweb.
So in other words i design the simple page on i web and than upload it to
bluehost. How do I size a quicktime movie to be the correct size example
852x480? on the templates the movies are to small?

How did you fit a 1.5GB file into 300MB's of space?
What viewer is going to wait two or three hours (weeks on dial-up) to view a 3 minute file?
Your best solution is to link to file and let your viewers download it. Just use the complete URL as your link.

  • Best Data Rate for Export to DVD as Quicktime Movie

Hello - hope someone out there can help me!!!
I put together a slideshow for my high school reunion using iMovie HD 5.0.2 and need help with settings exporting it as a Quicktime movie.
*I want to export it to a DVD* so that I can play it on a friend's laptop and I'm not sure if iDVD would be the way to go - my friend has a Macbook Pro I can borrow so it might be okay - I am worried about the fact that I've been working on older software. (I have read about opening iDVD and bringing in iMovie project vs. "share to iDVD"). So they suggested instead of iDVD I just export as a quicktime. Then I can burn it in Toast (v.6.0.2)
    Wondering about *BEST DATA RATE?*
    In export settings I have:
    compressor set at H.264
frame rate: current (should that be DV-NTSC?)
    key frames: automatic (?)
    encoding: best quality/multi-pass
    should data rate be automatic?
Some details that might be relevant to helping me:
*Stills brought in as clips with cross-dissolves, only two uses of "Ken Burns effect"
*Some stills were in the project from my LAST reunion - I realize I should have reimported all the stills since I am now recompressing them, but it's too late now!
    *no audio
*Slideshow is about 45 mins long, file size says 5.52GB although when I looked into exporting it last night it said 9+GB - not sure why
*Using a G4 Tower (not my ancient laptop) with OS 10.4.11, Dual 533MHz PowerPC, 1.5GB SDRAM
    iDVD version is 6.0.4
please help if you can!! thank you in advance...

Are you trying to burn a standard DVD or are you trying to put a QuickTime .mov file on DVD media?
A standard DVD doesn't worry about file size (only the duration).
A "data" DVD is limited to the type of media used. A single layer DVD is about 3.7 GB's.
In order to make a data DVD you need to keep the data rate low enough to not exceed the DVD media playback abilities. They can't handle the higher rates found in many of the preset options.
You can avoid all of these headaches by telling the viewer to "copy" the .mov file from the DVD to their Desktop. Then nearly any of the presets option will work.
H.264 is a great video codec and the "automatic" preset should work just fine. Use "multi-pass" for best quality (takes a very long time). Remove the check mark for "Audio" since your file has none. Leave it checked and you waste file size because a silent audio track would be added.

  • MP3 importing as Quicktime Movies? Huh?

Knowing my luck, the answer to this question is elementary, and I'm a cosmic dork. But please be generous and bear with me.
When I download MP3s directly from a web page (ie, www.blahblah.com/blah.MP3), I save them to my desktop, then import them into iTunes. But why-oh-why does iTunes then transform the MP3 into a Quicktime Movie? I lose important ID3 information when this happens.
I'd obviously like to keep the music in MP3 format.
Is there a setting that I can modify/turn off? I've peeked at my Quicktime Pro and iTunes prefs, and can't find anything obvious to change.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
    Mac mini 1.25   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Running iTunes 6.0.2 & QuickTime Pro 7

    Chris--
This started happening when iTunes got the ability to play videos. The easiest way to prevent this happening is to avoid saving the MP3 from the browser window when the QuickTime browser plugin is loaded. Instead, back up a page and control-click (or right click if you have a multi-button mouse) and choose "Download Linked File to Disk" from the pop-up menu.
The "Save as Source..." menu item in the QT browser saves the file with the wrong type and creator codes, fooling iTunes into thinking it's a movie file.
I've posted a more complete explanation, along with an AppleScript that can be used to change the type and creator codes for a few files at once, instead of one at a time.

  • How to make a 30 second quicktime movie small enough to send in email

I took a 30 second movie on my Lumix camera and downloaded it to my desktop. It automatically turned into a quicktime
movie, which I attempted to send in an email. It was refused by the Mail program because it was too large. I'm not sure how to make it small enough to send.
I should know this by now, but never needed to before now.

Betsi, the size file you can send in your email depends
on the file sizes your particular email Service provider can
handle. Check your service provider of your email.
    But do you have QuickTimePro?
Is your QuickTime program free standing?
I ask this because I saw it as part of iMovie.
Mine is currently limited usage, but originally
I could use it much more and even change the
to what I wanted my file to be due to the
    numerous settings QuickTime had.
    Thank you! Paula
