Quicktime movie opens Safari, HOW??

Oh I just watched a QT movie file that automatically opened my Safari browser and sent me to the web site the movie came from. How can I make QT movie files that do this so I can direct my family that views my movies to my website?

So much for my set of instructions. My version of Automator must be on the fritz. As I attempted to create a simple workflow that I was going to save as an application I can't get the hyperlink to work in the movie.
Odd. It worked just fine a few weeks ago. It does require a viewer click on the playback window. I use a "click here for more info" graphic to help them understand.

Plenty of help with the older software (AppleScript). Download the collection above and you'll find more than a few tricks that are easy to use. And they work (most of them, anyway) on a Tiger Mac using QT 7.
One (Text Tracks folder) is HREF to movie end. This will automatically open your Web link when the movie is done playing (when played back using the browser plug-in). You can set the link to open in the same or a new browser window.

    iTunes 11 has converted some songs to Quicktime movie format. How can I convert them back to MPEGs?

    I didn't mess with the iTunes Media folder previously, so I don't think that was the cause. Anyway, I manually fixed most of the songs, but I still can't figure out how to fix the movies that became listed as songs.
    Here is a screenshot of what it looks like when I click on "Get Info" for one of the movies (which has ended up in the music section on iTunes):
    There is no option to change the media kind to "movie" or "video" even though it is a movie and it still plays as a movie if I press play.

  • Viewing quicktime movies in Safari

    What are the specifications for viewing quicktime movies in safari? I've tried several different sites, most without luck. One very useful site (http://mac.sillydog.org/qt/compare.php) has several different QT formats posted. I was surprised to find out that I could not view the H.264 format, but that I could view the MPEG-4 (basic) and MPEG-4 (Improved) formats (these are the last 2 examples on the page). Also, does anyone know if it is possible to view any streaming quicktime video from within Safari? TIA
    -peter-

    Update: No it is not possible to stream quicktime video to ipod touch or iPhone at this time. Only Audio streams are supported.
    I don't know the exact specifications off hand, although I know for definate that Apple's trailer site now redirects you to a iPhone-friendly version when browsed from either iPod touch or iPhone.
    Maybe you could look into what spec the videos are encoded there? - Hopefully you can, I'd also be able to upload video in ipod touch compatible format(s).

    Have you tried holding down "CMD+OPTION+ESC" (⌘⌥ESC keys together) to get the 'force quit applications' window? You can then select Safari there and hit the Force quit button. In this window, also see if there are any other applications that are not working correctly (it might show a 'not responding' message against that application), and you can force quit that too.

  • Why does quicktime have a question mark when I open Safari - how do I fix?

    Whenever I open Safari to any page with Quicktime I
    get a Q with a questions mark through it.
    I am about ready to hang myself.
    Thanks,

    Edgar123,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    Sounds as if somehow your Mac has misplaced the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin file. Try searching your hard drive to see if that plug-in is around in the wrong spot, or download and re-install the Quicktime installer from the Downloads link at the top of the Discussions page.

  • Quicktime movie opens really slowly...

    I just uploaded a movie to my website, and the big "Q" logo shows for a REALLY long time before the player shows up. What causes this, and how can I fix it?
    You can see what I'm talking about at http://web.mac.com/nicolejbutler
    THANKS in advance!

    Basically your movie was not created using the "Fast Start" option. Therefore, when the movie page opens it caches the entire movie to the viewers computer before displaying the poster frame in the player controller. Rather than using the e-mail pre-set, you might try sharing/exporting by using the "Movie to QuickTime Movie" option. One of the available user options in this work flow is "Prepare for Internet Streaming." Simply check this option and select the "Fast Start" pop-up. This tells the browser player to automatically start playing the movie while it is still downloading/caching the movie. Delay in this case will be determined by the size/data rate of your movie and the user's connection speed.

  • How can I stop Quicktime movies opening my web browser?

    Sorry if this has allready been brought up but I spent an hour searched the forums for an answer (And longer on google).
    My issue is that certain unsavory people seem to be exploiting an ability of quicktime to launch the default web browser and goto a page they designate. This unfortunately mean often I will download a movie (Named something it isn't typicly), run it and suddenly have 10 internet explorer windows pop up opening assorted **** sites, sites demanding spyware and malware installations and on at least one occasion site containing scripts to automaticly install a virus on loading.
    I'd like to how I can prevent this from happening short fo outright not using quicktime. Is there an option to disable a movies ability to link to web pages or a feature to block their attemtps to do so?
    Thanks.

    No. I don't have any viruses or spyware and I havn't been hijacked either. Look a little background on me, I work in tech support dealing with such issues for a living. Regardless I've had this happen on brand new computers I've set up and for the sake of been thorough in eliminating that idea as a possibility I followed every step and recommendation your links gave me and they turned up nothing.
    The problem is a function of certain .mov files which basically activate an imbeded hyperlink within the file, opening the default browser and loading whatever site the link lead to. If I could find a tame one that didn't send you to pornographic sites etc. I'd be happy to host it for you to test out yourself but frankly the only .mov files I've seen that do it are usually **** films themselves named something else (For instance one was named SydneyOlympics2004Opening) with the intention of luring unsuspecting victims into downloading them and running them in quicktime forcing them to load all these malicious pages. It's fine for me on my home network where the security settings are setup so hazardous sites can't actually do anything and the addition of pornographic images to my temporary internet folder has no concequences but at work that could get you fired and heavily fined in goverment employment.
    On a side note how another program could respond to a .mov file playing in quicktime opening web pages specific to that file and at set points in the movies timeline is beyond me. It would have to be a plugin for quicktime.

  • How can i make QuickTime movie open a browser window?

    like title says, how can i accomplish this when i create/edit the QT movie?
    thanks!

    You set the "href" link or use the target=your URL in your page code.
    Quicktime 7 can also be used to set some movie proprieties to open the file in a new Player window.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/03war/
    One of my files that uses the QuickTime Player app.
    If you wish to include a "link" inside your file to automatically open a new Web page when a certain frame of your movie is played you need to include a HREFTrack.
    This feature is currently "broken" in the Windows version of QT 7.
    Older versions still incorporate the href track properly/

  • Quicktime movies open in new player, not embedded in IE browser.

    I'm not sure if this is something new to Vista, but I'm having trouble getting .mpeg and .mov files to open in the Internet Explorer window. Instead, when I click links to movies, it opens a stand-alone quicktime player window and plays it there.
    Is this a setting I'm missing somewhere?

    To view this you need Flip4Mac component. If you don't have it here the download link:
    http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.html
    After you install flip4Mac go to your system preference and click on the flip4Mac icon. Under the plug-in tab you can set Quicktime to either open a video in the browser or in the Quicktime Player.
    I have my flip4MAc to open in the browser . So, when the video started in the browser I click on the save triangle (far right) in the player and saved the feed to my desktop.
    reflector-52282.asx
    Clicking on the above .asx open the feed in the Quicktime player.

  • On opening Safari how can I set it to go directly to a particular webpage?

    I'd like to set Safari so that it goes directly to a particular webpage when opened. Is that possible and how to do it
    thanks

    Save an icon for the current page on your Home screen.
    Go to the website you want on Safari, tap the rectangle with an arrow pointing up icon, then tap Add to Home Screen. The icon appears only on the device where you create it.

  • Can't save a Quicktime movie in Safari

    I've read lots of threads about this.
    None of the solutions I've found actually work.
    The ability to save these movies works just fine in Firefox.
    Other than simply using Firefox, isn't there a true solution in Safari?

    if you want to record video or sound using QT you will need QT Pro
    the procedure is to purchase a registration key from Apple strore and enter that in QT preferences which will unlock the pro features.
    The reference to "built in to Mac" refers that the  Mac operating system uses QT as the sound, graphics and video engine, you still need QT Pro to record process or edit QT files.
    If you dont want QT Pro, look for something else.

  • When I open safari how do i change the setting so i do not see the tabs from my last session?

    can anyone help?

    It is the Resume feature in Lion.
    Hold the Shift key down and launch Safari.
    To turn off the Resume feature globally
    System Preference > General > Number of recent items
    uncheck the box for "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".

  • When I open Safari, how do I expand the size of the box?

    I can't seem to figure out the MBP command to expand the box once I click on Safari, or another application. I would like for it to take over the entire screen.

    on the top left corner of the window are three buttons: red, yellow and green. Green expands the window to optimum size in every program but iTunes, where it shrinks it to a miniscreen. Yellow minimizes it to the dock, and red closes it.
    There is no "full window" button--expand the window using the bottom left corner to the size you want, and the green button will toggle between that size and the previous size.

  • Quicktime Movies that Open in Safari eat up hard drive space. Howto Delete?

    I have a Mac Book Pro. The hard drive space is minimal as you probably know. Whenever I open up a Quicktime Movie in Safari the movie will open in a new Safari window. Some of the movies are rather large trailers and what not. I notice that my hard drive space goes down with each movie I open. Where are these movies saved? How do i clear up this space after i'm done watching? I hate needing to delete other stuff to open up quicktime movies.

    If you've set the cache to 100 MB's that all QuickTime will use.
    You're going to have much bigger issues with such little free space on your drive. Why not buy a cheap external drive and move large folders like Music, Movies and Pictures to it.
    iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie can all store their files on external drives.

  • Quicktime movie in separate window - how?

    Hello:
    2 part question...
    I am wanting to have a quicktime movie open in a separate window - that opens in addition to the homepage AND I want that window to display the movie only at 320 x 240.
    Is this possible and how do you do it?
    thanks!

    Hi James thanks for the recommendation.
    I apologize I haven't updated my site in a while (I've been studying for the Apple Certification Exams)
    This code should acheive the desired feature:
    STEP ONE: Paste this code into the HEAD of your HTML document
    <HEAD>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    <!-- Begin
    closetime = 0; // Close window after __ number of seconds?
    // 0 = do not close, anything else = number of seconds
    function Start(URL, WIDTH, HEIGHT) {
    windowprops = "left=50,top=50,width=" + WIDTH + ",height=" + HEIGHT;
    preview = window.open(URL, "preview", windowprops);
    if (closetime) setTimeout("preview.close();", closetime*1000);
    function doPopup() {
    url = "<b><a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://YourPop-upURLHere.com">http://YourPop-upURLHere.com</a></b>";
    width = 320; // width of window in pixels
    height = 240; // height of window in pixels
    delay = 0; // time in seconds before popup opens
    timer = setTimeout("Start(url, width, height)", delay*1000);
    // End -->
    </script>
    STEP TWO: Insert the onLoad event handler into your BODY tag
    <BODY OnLoad="doPopup();">
    <!-- Script Size: 1.27 KB -->
    Play around with that code and see what you can come up with!
