Quicktime movie - publishes a ghost file, placing on the page

I have two questions.
First - the ghost file
I dragged a Quicktime movie file to a page and then published to a folder. I realised that I had attached a 27Mb file instead of a smaller file (750k) that I had meant to. I deleted the large file (select/delete) and dragged the new file on to the page and published to a new folder. However the large file keeps publishing even though I thought I had deleted it. I always end up with the large file and small file in the published folder. How can I stop this happening?
Secondly - placing on a page
The QT movie has an area above the control bar for a graphic which I didn't fill. How can I accurately place the QT file on the page so I can line it up with text - the graphic box seems to stop text flowing around it or placing it where I want it.

I suspect your ISP is serving you an older "cached" file instead of the new "fresh" one. More common overseas than here in the U.S. and some ISP's are worse than others.
Try "refreshing" the page (Command-R in your browser) to see if it now finds the new page.
If that fails (and it may because these ISP's are so aggressive about caching) try adding a question mark (?) to the end of the address in your browser:
apple.com becomes apple.com?

You should buy Compressor it never fails. It is a must have. I have given up using this buggy Share function and use Compressor all the time.

When you converted the original files via MPEG Streamclip, what did you convert them to?
Have you tried trashing your preferences in FCP? Trashing FCP prefs is usually the first step when FCP is performing strangely.

Can I Save a Single .AI Document As Multiple Files, Seperated by the Page Tiling?

There must be a way to save or output a single Adobe Illustrator file into multiple files based on the "pages" I have created in the document?
For example, if I have tiled 10 tabloid-sized pages onto a single Illustrator CS3 .AI file, is it possible to save the file in a manner that will allow all of those tiled pages to be saved as a seperated or individual files?
I guess it would be a similar concept to how in newer versions (like CS4) you can export multiple jpegs of an illustrator file that contains several artboards and it automatically assigns a number suffix to the filename since multiple files were outputted from the single ai file.
Any help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

Quicktime movies made from PNG files???

I'm working on an edit that I was handed by another editor and I'm having the hardest time messing with the project. Apparently he made Quicktime movies out of PNG frame sequences and then used those movies (that seem to be not self contained) to edit in FCP. Everything was offline when I got it and when I reconnect it it goes thru every frame of every shot saying..."Searching for movie data in file...." Takes sooo long.
SO I let it search and it finshes but then when I double click the movie file in the browser or in the time line it starts the long search for every frame again.
Got any suggestions? This is driving me nuts!!!

This sounds like the behavior when a Quicktime reference file is used. You can be in FCP or in the Finder but when the original media used to create it isn't available the Mac os will try to search and you see that message. It can take a while. If that media isn't available you won't be able to edit with it. Not a good workflow to use.

Trying to convert R3D to mov but have the converted file placed in the same folder as the source R3D file.

Had a quick search and couldn't find an answer to this so asking the question :-)
It looks like i'm going to have to use Premier Pro to convert all my R3D files to mov because *Another Piece of Software ;-)* just doesn't recognise them :-/
I know i can import the R3D files into Premier and then export then as mov which is fine but the problem is in the export window theres no option to place the exported file into the same folder as the original R3D file, there is only the option of choosing a folder which, doesn't pre-designate itself to be the original files folder for some reason.
I have 100s of R3D files to convert to mov and having to find and choose the correct folder for each of them individually would be an incredible pain.

Wow ... just checked through PrPro myself and queued out to AME, and even went into Prelude to try a transcode. You're right, you have to specify a location, or have one in the preset group ... but it has to be a specific one, there's no option for "original folder".
I'd suggest a wish be placed on this, as there's times I'd want to use it also.

Compressor mistakenly opens Quicktime mov as Surround Sound file

This is an ongoing problem I can consistently run into. When I have Compressor open and I drag-and-drop a video into the main Compressor window, it thinks it's a surround-sound file. It's strange but when this happens, the only way I can bring it into Compressor as a video file is to drag-and-drop the video file onto the Compressor icon on the dock.
This is also the case after I've created a droplet for converting a QT movie to a lower-res h264. The droplet starts spitting out Surround Sound files. Is there any way to fix this?

The Windows based system, that generated the .MOV, has a Canopus DV Storm-RT card installed and the project preset was Canopus DV 48K. I tried a new project preset, Standard DV-NTSC, without the Canopus, and it works correctly. Wow, I didn't know that the Canopus card would "flavor" the output file in different formats such as QuickTime. Thanks!

Quicktime movies to m2v/aiff files?

I have several quicktime movies that I want to import to DVD Studio Pro. But I have seem to forgotten the process and/or applications to use. Need to make a demo reel.

Try creating the mpegs then directly in DVD SP... just import a non self contained QuickTime movie made from your sequence in FCP...
Chose file/export/QuickTime Movie. then use "current settings", and check off the "make self contained" option. Import that file directly into DVD SP... use the encoding prefs there to setup your compression to MPEG. It will even render the MPEG in the background while you work in FCP or DVD SP setting up menus etc... It also maintains any chapter markers you've made in FCP.

How can I move ALL Logic Pro Files (except for the app itself) to an external?

So I'm looking to move all my Logic content to my external hard drive and still be able to use the program effectively and efficiently.
I have about 5 years worth of content (adding up to over 100 GB of data in audio/instrument/project files) and I think it's time to find an alternative to suffocating my internal hard drive.
I'm looking for the easiest way to move all my content to my external and delete it from my internal (without altering the location of the app itself).
I understand "managing project assets", but this method requires me to open EVERY project one by one and change the location settings. I'm basically trying to find a way to move every project and its appropriate audio files to my external so that I can open them from there without having to go through each project one by one... I tried just copying and pasting the entire "Logic" folder onto the external and then deleted it from my internal, but when I attempted to open a project from my external's copied file, none of the content was found because the original locations of the internal were still embedded in the project. Also, none of the software instruments could be found because they, too, were originally located on the internal drive. Luckily I backed up my hard drive beforehand, so a simple restore brought me back to sanity.
I understand managing the project assets, but is going one project by one project at a time really the only way? There's gotta be another way :/

Can a QuickTime movie play for more than 60 seconds per page

Can a Quicktime movie be set to play for more than 1 minute per page in Keynote. I have clips that run up to 3 minutes. For now I have pulled the clip into 3 different pages and set the times to match but I get a 10 second delay between the pages that is very distracting.

Yes I am trying to set up an automatic transition after the movie has played. I have still photos between the movies. I want the entire presentation to be self running. I did use the special builds in and out and have the action set at none. The movie clip will not run more than 60 seconds?

I am moving a region from one place to another on a page.... putting it in the middle of a report.

Why am I doing this? I needed to see one purchase order, with the POitems in the middle of the page. So i render the purchase order (using a custom report template I built)... in that template, I Have a div called POItems. Then in a separate region, I'm getting the POitems using an APEX report region. After the page is loaded, i call a js function I wrote to move the contents of the region from whereever it is to the div where I've saved a place for that data in the middle of my larger purchase order report.
It looks GREAT!!!
Here is the function (i have it in the HTML Header of the page)
(I know, i hardcoded the regionID. I'm going to change it later to grab the id into a field and then use that field's value to make the function more generic. I'll also add parameters to specify the name of the region I wanna get, and the name of the DIV I wanna move it to, and I'll rename the function to moveRegion)

Now, the problem. The whole purpose for this was to PRINT and to EMAIL. Print preview looks fine (haven't printed to paper yet). Looks really great! What we are using to print is Internet Explorer's (ver 6.x) "File/Send/Page by Email". When I go to print, the POItems region shows up where it would have shown up had I not moved it then hidden it!! It's as if I never wrote the function and never called it.
I'm guessing that Outlook doesn't do the javascript calls.
Any ideas?
If you don't need to print, I hope someone can use this trick! Really, though, I hope to resolve the printing issue or I have to totally rewrite the sql query to get the items. I thought I was done w/ this task! :-(

I am actually done w/ that task.
I wrote a pl/sql procedure to get the poItems inline and it looks really good.
It's a good lesson learned that you can't use any fancy javascript after page load, if you wanna use File\Send\Page byEmail (IE).

How do I tell my flash movie which frames to display depending on the page?

Hi,
I'm creating a php website with a flash movie that
incorporates the navigation. The movie shows an image for each
section and this image doubles as the navigation. The website uses
the same php template throughout the site for each page.
Here's the thing: I would like each page within the site to
display the rollover / active state of the section that the page is
in, rather than the movie playing fully each time the visitors
visits a different page.

JavaScript help Including JavaScript in a .js File Referenced by the Page

I need help with JavaScript. I have been doing the Advanced Tutorial, and still don't feel that understand how to make it work.
The example in "Oracle Database Application Express User's Guide" shows this line:

The documentation only gives you a possible example (and I might agree that it’s not the best one). You should put your external JS files (on the server OS file system) wherever it will be most accessible and maintainable for you. The best place, IMHO, is under the /images/javascript/ directory. The reason is very simple. You can use the alias /i/, which defined in your DAD file, to gain a very simple path to the file. In this case, the loading statement will look similar to the following:
