Quicktime movies no longer working

Why would quicktime files suddenly quit working on my site? They've always worked fine. They appear fine in iweb. I've not moved folders or anything but now the big Q just sits there where the movie files would normally load right away. Any ideas? Thank you.

Another of your files used with the other twelve on a single page.
Your page layout forces you to shove this 864X486 4.4 second video into a tiny box. It also uses an absurdly high data rate and Sorenson 3 video codec.
Sizing the file to fit your page layout would reduce the 3.4MB file size to a few hundred KB's. Placing it in its own page could showcase your dimensions.

Yet another from the page. Same dimensions as above. 9.2MB's Sorenson 3 video and an absurd data rate for the 11 second display.
Nothing wrong with QuickTime. You've chosen a ten year old video codec that each visitor must now "enable" before they can be displayed and have failed to compress the files to fit your page layout.

  • FCP Quicktime movie files not working with iDVD

    I have been using iDVD for years with no issues. Now, whenever I export a QT file from FCP 7 and use it in iDVD, I get a blank screen with audio and no video.
    I am able to work around the problem by using "Export Using Qucktime Conversion" and creating a smaller file, but I've never had to do that before. What in the world am I missing here? Shouldn't I be able to export as a QT movie, as long as the file is not gigantic? (the most recent one I used and had this problem occur was only about 500mb). Thanks for any help...
    Ben

    Hmmm,
    Well this is helpful information but unfortunately didn't solve my problem. The movie in question is only 5 1/2 minutes long. When I export it as a QT movie, iDVD "acts" like everything is fine; I can preview it within iDVD, etc.But when I burn the disc, it comes out blank. I then went back to FCP and exported it using QT conversion, and the DVD burned just fine. (I exclusively use Taiyo Yuden media and have never had a bad disc).
    This is just a simple 16:9 movie, shot at 720/30p on a Canon DSLR. I ingested with Log and Transfer using ProRes422, then dropped it onto the timeline, added a music track, rendered, and exported as Quicktime movie. It looks great on my desktop using the QT player, but it simply will not work in iDVD.  Still stuck here...

  • MM Director w/QuickTime 7 no longer works correctly

    I updated my PC to QT 7.0.3 and now I have a number of MM Director apps which no longer work correctly. These apps have worked for over 5 years with QT3 - QT6, but not now.
    The straingt QT movies play okay, but the MM Dir apps no longer seem to be able to control the QTVR movies, e.g. spin, zoom, etc.
    Anyone else seen this?
    Thanks.

    Apparently, this is a known issue (with QuickTime VR hotspots etc) at Adobe / Macromedia. It was noted in November 2005.

  • Quicktime movies do not work, please help me

    Hello friends. I have a problem that is absolutely driving me crazy. I belong to a popular pay site that has quicktime videos. I used to use the site and watched the videos, even though I have to use stupid dial-up because I live in the sticks, the videos worked, though they loaded slowly. After an absence for a half year or so, and after upgrading to Quicktime 7 (7.0.3), I rejoined the site and found the videos no longer worked for me (except for, mysteriously, maybe once or twice, I don't know why). I asked on their forums if anyone else had the problem, and I couldn't find anyone that did. I asked their help line and couldn't get any good information either. Finally, a nice person from their site phoned me and tried to help me personally with the problem, and he couldn't figure it out either. This man is a serious Mac user and programmer and he was stymmied. We tried all the QT settings and messed with the keychain settings, but nothing worked. Well, I did get a video to play once by changing the key chain settings, but then it went back to not working again after that.
    Specifically, here's what happens: when I click on a link to open a video, the QT player comes up, but it's in the small screen with only the time window and the buttons, not the video. Then.... nothing, that's it.
    The man I spoke with confirmed my suspicions that maybe there was something wrong with my system (I did reinstall QT several times, which didn't help.) I went out and bought OSX.4 and installed it, which was not easy because there was a problem and I had to do a clean install, erasing everything on my hard drive and starting over. I was sure that would solve the problem, but NOOOOO, it still does exactly the same thing.
    This is not some shady website I'm dealing with, it's a popular, rather expensive (for me, anyway) pay site with many happy members. And one extremely frustrated one.
    Thanks for any suggestions you can come up with. Maybe a setting I've overlooked? Anything at all?

    Ok, maybe I can jog someone's memory just a bit, maybe I can get some help on this. I tried using my laptop with the website videos, with the same result, just either blank video screen or the small screen with nothing but controls and time bar. Then I took the laptop to a friend's house and tried it on her wireless system and it worked fine. I came home, tried it here again and it didn't work. I know it would take longer, but it should work here on my dial-up connection. It used to work, before I upgraded to Quicktime 7, and the people at the website say that it should work too. They don't know of anyone else with this problem. I've tried changing my quicktime preferences but that has no effect.
    Any more ideas? Thanks again.

  • FCP 7 Export Quicktime Movie Suddenly Stopped working

    I use FCP7 on Mavericks 10.9.2. Working in Final Cut with raw ProRes 422 footage and wanting to export my sequence as Export Quicktime Movie. Worked fine until one day it just didn't. Final Cut exports a QT file that QT opens and immediately attempts (and fail) to convert. Then I get a message that QT cannot recognize file type, even though file is a .mov.
    I send the file to the VLC media player, and it opens the file but only plays the audio. I have no idea why any of this is happening.
    Using "Export Using Quicktime Conversion" I can still get the uncompressed ProRes 422 sequence out of Final Cut, but that's a pain. I want Command-E back. Any ideas?

    If you love FCP7, you don't move UP to FPX - you move over to a new set of operational activities, a new vocabulary and a new media management structure. Notice the word "new" as in different, not "updated" as in a faster version of the same system.
    If you want a 64 bit version of FCP7, look into Premiere Pro CC.
    Best,

  • Quicktime Movies Suddenly Not Working in Safari

    All Quicktime movies on my website suddenly show the "?" when I try to play them.
    A sample page is:
    http://www.ibcdigital.com/commercials.php
    I am running Safari 5.0.4 on OSX 10.6.6 on a new laptop. I have the Quicktime 7.6.6 plugin installed.
    Everything works fine in FF4 or on an older Mac with Safari 4.1.3 OSX & 10.4.1. I haven't changed anything on the site, it's worked perfectly for years.
    Any ideas?

  • Some webcam drivers (Quicktime Components) no longer work in Snow Leopard

    I have two webcams, both of which worked before the update to Snow Leopard, both of which no longer work.
    They are recognised by their own utility applications and I can see the video, but the QuickTime components used to transport this video to other programs eg Skype, simply do not work.
    Does anyone know why this is? Is there anything that can be done about it?
    Is it something about QuickTime that got removed or changed in the update? Can this be rectified? Does it require the vendors of these webcams to rewrite their drivers (I can't see why they should)?
    The webcams in question are:
    Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000, previously working via a Sonix driver for the chipset it uses, that was modified to recognise the product ID of the device. Partially working with Macam.
    Creative PD1000, previously working with the Macam component.
    Macam works, just not the QuickTime component.
    Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

    K T wrote:
    Have you updated Skype to the snow leopard compatible version?
    Yes. Nothing to do with Skype, although latest version of Skype has huge problems on it's own anyway.
    Many plug-ins need to be updated, and I wouldn't be surprised if you had a codec involved that might need updating as well...
    Well that does seem to be the case, although I can't see webcam manufacturers updating their legacy products' drivers just for SL.
    Does it require the vendors of these webcams to rewrite their drivers (I can't see why they should)?
    You don't? Do you know about the 64-bit capabilities that are now part of Snow Leopard?
    Uh, yes, but surely 32-bit plugins still work? System Preferences does just fine with 32-bit preference panes.. surely they wouldn't just yank out support for hundreds of old webcams without saying anything?
    I'd really like to get Apple's official take on what's going on here. in the Macam forums, soo many people are reporting broken webcams under Snow Leopard.

  • Quicktime Movie Controller not working on Macs

    Hello,
    I just created the following page:
    www.garrettleejohnson.com
    Click either video section.
    Everything is good EXCEPT the Quicktime movie controller (pause, play, slider) is non responsive -- only on Macs/OSX. I can click and double click and start/stop but thats it. It works fine with Windows clients.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Greg

    You've got some page element covering the lower portion of the QuickTime file which prevents the controls from working. Check your page layout (maybe footer) and adjust them.
    http://www.garrettleejohnson.com/GarrettJohnson/Media/Junior%20Play%20collection %20run.m4v
    Your "video" is nearly 45 MB's in file size and its dimensions are 720X540 yet you've used a smaller dimension in your page. This could also be part of the error.

  • Quicktime movie does not work on hosted iWeb website

    Problem: I have a media file portion on my iWeb designed website that displays pictures (working very well) and one that is supposed to show a movie (not working at all). The movie was made with iMovie and has an .m4v extension. When you click on the link for the movie it shows a blank screen on Firefox and a Quicktime logo with a big question mark on Safari. I'm attempting to view the website on my Mac with the latest Quicktime software on it but it doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fix it?
    Some additional info: the hosting provider is 1and1.com and I have a Windows server package (unfortunately). Also, if I publish the site to a folder the movie area works flawlessly, it just does not work on the hosted site.
    Thanks!!

    Thank you. I converted the file to .MOV and it now works on Safari but has not worked on Firefox (have not tried yet on a Windows based machine). At least headed in the right direction. I will also contact 1and1. Thanks again.

  • Airplay from quicktime movie does not  work

    I just updated my iPad2 to iOS5 and my ATV2 to the latest version (4.4, I believe). Both are working fine and runnin the new versions.
    Then I started Safari on the iPad2, loaded the page with the iPhone 4S presentation and played it. Plays fine on the iPad. Then I select the airplay button and it lets me choose between iPad and Apple TV. Good too. But the Apple Tv fails with a complaint about not being able to play the type of content.
    Should this not just work?
    Thanks.

    Thank you. I converted the file to .MOV and it now works on Safari but has not worked on Firefox (have not tried yet on a Windows based machine). At least headed in the right direction. I will also contact 1and1. Thanks again.

  • Cfdirectory create and cffile move no longer work in CF8.01

    We have upgraded from CF7 to CF8 enterprise on a windows 2003
    server with IIS 6. Anytime I try to run a script that creates a
    directory or copies or moves files to a mapped drive to a network
    share fails. I have changed the user for the ColdFusion Application
    service to a user that has full rights to the share and it still
    fails. It tells me the directory cannot be created or I do not have
    permission to write to the location.

    Yeah, doesn't give me anything about the ethernet card, but does show the wireless one. No, hang on, just found it. Hmmm, didn't see it before, but I was grepping for 'net' then.
    $ dmesg | grep -i eth
    eth1: Tigon3 [partno(BCM95751M) rev 4101] (PCI Express) MAC address 00:12:34:56:78:9a
    eth1: attached PHY is 5750 (10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet) (WireSpeed[1])
    eth1: RXcsums[1] LinkChgREG[0] MIirq[0] ASF[0] TSOcap[1]
    eth1: dma_rwctrl[76180000] dma_mask[64-bit]
    OK, so it is at eth1 now, that makes sense since I put ipw2200 right at the beginning and tg3 right at the end of the MODULES array in rc.conf to avoid the system getting crossed up while trying load them too close together. Thanks B, so at least we know something is happening at boot time.
    Btw, my assumption is that ifconfig shows hardware once it is loaded correctly, is that right? But apart from the modules, what else do I need to do to get it showing up in ifconfig?

  • How to play a Quicktime movie in Powerpoint 2010

    Powerpoint 2010 is supposed to be able to play Quicktime movies as long as Quicktime Player is installed on the computer.  I have the player installed but the MOV video won't play.  My Powerpoint is 32-bit, running on 64-bit Windows 7.  According to what I've read the Quicktime needs to be 32-bit as well for this to work, but I don't know if the player I have installed is 32-bit or 64-bit.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    There may be 2 scenarios for this:
    1. The logo animation in the logo.swf is within a movieclip and has a stop() function called in the last frame.
    Solution:
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.display.LoaderInfo;
    import flash.events.*;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    var logoSWF:MovieClip;
    var timer:Timer = new Timer(1000);
    timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, playLogo);
    function loadLogo() {
        var url:String = "logo.swf";
        var loader:Loader = new Loader();
        loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
        loader.load(new URLRequest(url));
    function completeHandler(event:Event):void {
        timer.start();
        var loader:LoaderInfo = LoaderInfo( event.currentTarget );
        logoSWF = MovieClip( loader.content );
        addChild(logoSWF);
    function playLogo(event:Event=null):void {
        logoSWF.logo.play(); //"logo" is the instance name in logo.swf
    loadLogo();
    2. The logo animation in the logo.swf in in the main timeline and has astop() function in the main timeline.
    Solution:
    import flash.display.Loader;
    import flash.display.LoaderInfo;
    import flash.events.*;
    import flash.net.URLRequest;
    var loader:Loader;
    var timer:Timer = new Timer(1000);
    timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, playLogo);
    function loadLogo() {
        var url:String = "logo1.swf";
        loader = new Loader();
        loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
        loader.load(new URLRequest(url));
    function completeHandler(event:Event):void {
        timer.start();
        var loader:LoaderInfo = LoaderInfo( event.currentTarget );
        addChild(loader.content);
    function playLogo(event:Event=null):void {
        MovieClip( loader.content ).play();
    loadLogo();
    Hope this helps.

  • Final cut pro problem when exporting with quicktime movie

    Hello!
    I must have som help beacuse my musicmovie must be finsihed untill today. I have a movie their i had used filters like colour correction and interlace. When i export with USING QUICKTIME CONVERSION and have

    its not a problem the movie works fine all the way.

Its the same clips that dosent work everytime i had export with QM. I have tried to replace these clips but the same thing is happening. I am also expriencing the same error. Tried every solution listed so far:
    1. Switch off background rendering. Trash render files. Don't render. Export.
    2. copying the project within Final Cut Pro into another project
    3. remove the following folder: Library > Application Support > ProApps > MIO > RADPlugins > XDCAMFormat.RADPlug
    Nothing worked. I try to export to Vimeo, YouTube, and master. All error right at 9%

  • TS3771 My iTunes U no longer works since the update, an error message pops up saying that "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I followed the tutorial that suggests to change to from 64 to 32 bit and it didn't

    iTunes U video files no longer work on my computer since i update to Mavericks. The following message appears on the screen "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I followed a tutorial that suggested to go to Applications/iTunes/Get Info and change to 32 bit. Now my iTunes does not open at all, it says it requires 64 bit. I am a bit confused and disappointed. What should I do to get it fixed? Buy a new MacBook?

    Marcello, I am having the same problem.  When following the advice of many in the community to start iTunes in 32-bit mode, I get the following error after I have done so:
    I am running 10.9.2 on a mac mini.
    I am hoping this will be fixed or at least a solid answer could be given that iTunes will no longer support certain types of media going foward.

  • I can no longer play quicktime mov files from a canon firestore

    I can no longer play quicktime mov files from a canon firestore from an HDV camera that play on other macs and play in vlc. It happened all of a sudden. Files that I could play before no longer play. It seems to be something wrong with the quicktime codec management because the files do not play in premiere and final cut pro. In FCP it says: File Error: 1 File(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. These files work on other computers. I have four drives and it doesnt matter which file i attempt to open on each drive, these files are unreadable on this system. Please help. Possible issues might be a corrupted index, but i dont understand how that can go across four different drives.

    Apple kindly updated Quicktime and rendered Firestore files unplayable. I think a recent update of iTunes was the culprit.
    Solutions: What I did. Wipe the system disc. Re-install Snow Leopard. Re-install FCP7. Don't update Quicktime or iTunes to anything after Jun 2011. QT v7.6.6 is the last good version. That'll get your files back.
    A colleague tried a different approach. For this you need a pre-July 2011 version of the file QuickTimeComponents.component.  It is in the system/library/QuickTime folder. Delete your current one and drop in an old one.
    However if you're working with Final Cut X, I think you screwed until Focus and Apple work something out. My address is on my contacts page at teevideousadotcom if you need any further help.
