Quicktime movies saved on mac have sound but no video in QTpro (windows)

I have QT files saved on a hard drive by someone on mac (hard drive formatted to be compatible with both mac and windows) The QT files wouldn't open initially, I upgraded to QT pro and now they open and play, but only sound, no video.   When I try to import them into Adobe Premiere elements, i get a missing codec error message, but it doesn't tell me what codec I need.
Has anyone run into this problem and found a solution?

Open the file using QuickTime Player and then open the Movie Inspector window to view the codecs used.

    My apple tv and airplay works great except when I try to play a dvd on my macbook. Have sound but no video.

    You won't be able to view them via Apple TV, correct. It is not meant for this function, if that's your intended purpose its best to get a DVD player

    Next time include the model of computer that you are using. Then the people that respond to these questions can hopefully give you a better answer. I would go to the Control Panel and click on Displays. Check the Resolution and make sure it is set for the default of your computer. Usually that is the same as the highest resolution available. Check Device Manager in the Control Panel too. Make sure that there are no conflicts or anything disabled. Finally make sure that the computer is using the latest video driver.

  • Trouble shoot Issue in QT Pro: I have sound but no Video after convert

    I hope this hasn't been answered somewhere else if so I apologize. I have been using QuickTime Pro to convert .mkv files to .mp4. I muxed them with MkvMerge. Then I open them in QuickTime Pro and export as a mp4 for Ps3 playback. They are 1080p Hd movie files and I have had no problems until today. I have one mkv that when converted to mp4 plays only sound and no video. Its just a black screen. I checked the muxed files when I open them in QT Pro and they work fine so its only after I convert the .mka to .mp4 that I have the video issue. I've already done a few other files so I don't know why this isn't working? Any ideas?

    It could be a 'difficult' form of Matroska file. FYI Matroska is just a container like MOV or AVI, and some mkv have the video encoded with Real Video Codec (RV9 RV10). Perian+QT can't decode this, but VLC will play .mkv files just fine on OS X, as long as they don't use H.264!
    It's a bit of a lottery until Matroska decide to support the Apple platform. I have found this:
    http://mkv4mac.free.fr/index.php?lang=en&p=lec
    which may help.
    But there may be another workaround: 1. Get Info the mkv file
    2. Change to extension to wmv. Save as wmv and that could work better.
    Or this link may be helpful:

    Recently, a poster (ZachP14) suggested this:
    "There's a program called Plex that runs .mkv files awesome on my 2.0 ghz macbook."

  • Published Videos from IPhoto to Gallery have sound but no video in browser

    I've published some iphoto pictures and videos to a gallery on MobileMe. The videos in the gallery will play in the browser but there is no video, just sound.
    The videos in IPhoto work fine, but through the browser they have no image. Do I need a special plugin to play these videos off the site? I simply let IPhoto upload them to the gallery, so I assumed it would do whatever it needed to ensure they will play...
    Any help would be appreciated...I've tried viewing the videos with Firefox and Safari, but I get the same behavior. I tried downloading the file and it is the same bahavior, however the originals in the IPhoto albums work just fine...I assume this means a conversion is happening, but to what format?? They have an AVI extension, were originally downloaded from a Canon 770is camera.
    I confirmed I can play the video on a Windows computer. I also downloaded the file from the gallery and opened in Quicktime and used the inspector to see:
    Format is 'MJPG' 640x480..it also downloaded with a .MOV extension rather than the AVI listed in gallery....

    Heya Brendt,
    Is the video within iTunes or just in your movies folder?
    If it is not iTunes then ignore the "itunes" portion below.
    Remove the following files to the trash (do not empty until you test for function):
    ~/library/caches
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist
    - Repair your permissions - > http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
    - Restart your computer again
    - Test and see how its working
    Hope that helps!

  • I have sound but no video while using the Apple TV-it says Internet Radio, does anyone know how to correct it?

    I'm wondering if anyone can help, i can hear the audio and on my TV it says Internet Radio.  When i hit the icon for Apple TV, it is selected, but still no Video.  I'm trying to air play from my iPad Directv App so i can watch the game on a big screen.
    Thanks!!!!

    Apple says they are aware and working on it.  The Sound is "not" lost and may be retrievable after their fix.  It is an iMovie problem.  It may take a while as they are preoccupied with the new "Mountain Lion" release.  In the meantime I am saving my movies on my MacBook.  If you can record your sound with a setting other them FPEG 2 that may help.  I can't, so I am stuck.  Big trip to NWT in late August so I am holding my breath.  Hope they are faster than fixing the Numbers upload to iCloud.

  • ITunes crashed during sync, now Podcasts have sound but no video.

    My wife has a 5th gen 30GB iPod. It has the latest system software from iPod Updater, and we're running the latest iTunes.
    Yesterday she was doing a sync, and iTunes crashed on her in the middle of it. Now, even with an iPod Restore and reset, and a restart of her Windows XP machine, Podcasts won't play properly on the iPod. They play fine in iTunes, but only the audio portion plays on the iPod. Non-Podcast video (such as music videos) plays fine on the iPod.
    What happened here? What's wrong?
    Thanks for any help in solving this.

    An update (and a solution):
    Looks like the iTunes crash was only a clue as to what was happening elsewhere, and a slightly misleading clue at that.
    Video Podcasts were placing themselves in the "Music" section on the iPod, and it was from there that we were attempting to play them. This worked just fine until iTunes's crash. After the crash, only the audio part would play.
    It was only late last night that after lots of investigation my wife discovered that the video Podcasts were ALSO installing themselves into a "Videos > Video Podcasts" sub section!
    It's stupidly obvious now, but was not yesterday: Video Podcasts will only play the audio portion when played from the "Music" section, but will play both audio and video when played from "Video > Video Podcasts". For some reason we had not discovered the "Video Podcasts" subsection until last night.
    Then a second solution was discovered to have been necessary. One Podcast video still would not play properly, even from the correct section. This turned out to be due to a need to "Convert" it to play on the iPod. This page has the answer to that:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301461
    iTunes online Help has all the answers to this, but we thought it was an iPod problem, and the iPod manual was no help at all. The answers to this in iTunes Help are found under:
    "Browsing and watching videos"
    and
    "Converting a video to work with iPod"
    It really helps to PRINT those two subjects, so you can refer to the paper page instead of trying to toggle back and forth between the iTunes screen and its Help screen.
    I hope this topic helps someone else.

  • HT204291 Have sound but no picture

    I have sound but no video on my tv using apple tv,  I am using an iPad to send to apple tv

    Yes Amazon block their app too.
    AirPlay Mirroring by default will mirror anything on your screen, so it's Amazon that block it, but to be fair to them, they may have to under the license they have to distribute the content with the movie studios, but I don't know for sure.

  • Have sound but no picture....until I unplug it

    Since having the TV service hooked up about 3 weeks ago, I have had to reset my stb by unplugging it because at least a dozen times I have turned the TV on to find that I have sound but no video.  I have my TV up via HDMI for the video and my sound is via an optical cable into my receiver.

    OK, there's a lot of misinformation out there. I will try to clear it up. Some will attack me, but unless you are a super-high-end audio-video phile, the cables you use for any feed with RCA connectors are interchangeable.
    Video -
    (1) best is Digital via HDMI (up to 1080i for FIOS)
    (2) Next best is Analog Component (3 RCA cables for R, G, andB) (also up to 1080i, but may down-res for DRM-flagged content)
    (3) Next (BIG step down) is Analog S-video - (unique connector and cable - 480p);
    (4) Then worst is Analog Composite (single RCA cable (usually yellow connector) - 480i
    Audio -
    (5) best is digital HDMI (which can carry newest lossless CODECs like Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio - up to 7.1 tracks) - but you need a compatible receiver to decode them;
    (6) Next best:  Some sources decode the lossless CODECs internally and output all 8 channels via 8 Analog RCA cables - but you need a receiver that can accept 7.1 analog inputs;
    (7a) The next DIGITAL Audio options (equal in quality) are either Optical (uses TOSlink fiber optic connector and cable); or
    (7b) Digital coaxial - which is carried by a standard RCA cable.  These can carry Dolby Digital and DTS tracks up to 5.1, but these are COMPRESSED Audio streams and not the lossless HD Audio that HDMI can pass;
    (8) Analog 2-channel audion via "L-R" (Left-Right) RCA cables - usually red and white, or red and black.  Simple 2-channel stereo audio.
    For all of the "RCA-type" connections, be it Analog Component video at 1080i (item 2 above), Composite VIdeo (4), lossless analog multichannel audio (6), Digital Coax audio (7b) or 2-channel L-R audio (8), they all use the same type of RCA cables and as long as your cable is not a real POS, will pass your signals just fine.  For NONE of these applications do you require any expensive, high-end cables.

  • TS1894 After sync my iphone my videos have sound but no picture in quicktime.

    My videos that I sync through iTunes have sound but a black screen when trying to watch through Quicktime.

    for mirror no
    for displaying photos or playing video from supported apps it should work
    I have the same cable and the component (same connectors but 5 of them vs. composite's 3 (where 2 being audio))
    both my composite and component works with my tv with both my ipod touch 3g iphone4 and ipad2
    composite really is the lowests quality format guess it's because of the resolution that it support that it does not support mirror
    and the reason iphone4 does not support mirror is because it's video chip don't support converting what it display into  H.264 in realtime same reason why only newer macs support airplay mirror too

    H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package.

  • Sound, but no video when streaming a quicktime file through shockwave

    When I stream a quicktime movie in the html file hosted on localhost using the Apache server, I get sound but no video. I saved the quicktime movie as part of my cast, linked to http://localhost/~username/mymovie.mov
    When I play the quicktime movie itself in my browser, or in a projector, or just within director, the video and sound play simultaneously. But in the browser after converting the dir movie to a dcr and html file, and hosting the dcr and html files on the server, when I open the html file in my browser, only the sound plays. Anyone else encounter similar problems? Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi guys,
    here's some quick notes on how I handle shockwave videos with my projects.
    I tend to find that .swf format videos work best under all browsers using shockwave
    easiest way:
    you can do a standard import of a .swf  video straight into a your cast. (not linked)
    the problem with this is it tends to create a large dcr file for you users to download
    'preloadnetthing' way:
    upload your videos to a url location - something like  www.mywebsite.com/the_programs_title/dsmedia/videos/video1.swf
    (I never use capital letters or spaces)
    file - import - internet - <enter the full url pathname to the file>
    this will add the file to the add list
    set media to : Link to External File (Don't use Standard Import)
    now press Import
    at this point Director will try to connect to your url - and do a trial download of the linked file
    if it works you should now see a new linked video cast member added to your cast
    if it fails - (which mine tend to do half the time?) - try it again until it works.
    Here I normally view the linked videos property inspector - and change its settings - I turn loop off - and make sure preload is not set.
    now comes the code part
    To get your videos to play correctly, you will need to preload them into memory, before you play them.
    (although it's possible to stream videos - I've never been able to get this to work well - there is a whole bunch of lingo code to deal with streaming videos)
    *** a frame script for preloading a swf video ***
    on beginSprite
      floatPrecision = 2
      tellStreamStatus(TRUE)
      global gVideosName
      set TEMP to "http://www.mywebsite.com/my_program/dswmedia/videos/" & gVideosName & ".swf"
      global mynetID
      set mynetID = preloadNetThing(TEMP)
      set the text of cast "preload_results" to "0 %"
    end beginSprite
    on exitFrame
      floatPrecision = 2
      global mynetID
      pStatList = getStreamStatus(mynetID)
      if (pStatList.bytesSoFar > 0) then
        pPercentDone = (pStatList.bytesSoFar * 100) / pStatList.bytesTotal
        if pPercentDone > 99 then go NEXT
      end if
      set the text of cast "preload_results" to ((the string of pPercentDone) & " %")
      go loop
    end exitFrame
    *** a frame script for playing a swf video ***
    on beginSprite
    -- I create a blank 'place holder' cast member (a black filled rectangle) the same size as my video, on to my stage - into sprite 1
      set the visible of sprite 1 to TRUE
      set the puppet of sprite 1 to TRUE
      global gVideosName -- REM the name of my linked video cast member
      set the castNum of sprite 1 to cast gVideoName
      updateStage
      sprite(1).play()
      updateStage
    end beginSprite
    on mouseDown
      sprite(1).stop() -- This stops the SWF movie playing !!!
    end mouseDown
    on keyDown
      sprite(1).stop() -- This stops the SWF movie playing !!!
    end keyDown
    on exitFrame
        if sprite(1).playing = false then
           set the puppet of sprite 1 to FALSE
           go to "somewhere" -- REM somewhere you want to go to after the video have finished.
           abort
        end if
      go loop
    end exitFrame
