When you say you "converted" the WMV content to QT, do you mean you "saved" them in am MOV file container or that you exported them to QT compression formats? In the first case, all you would have done is place the unchanged data into an MOV container and if you have failed to update your WMV component, it may no longer be compatible with your current OS and QT software. If you actually exported to a different compression format, please specify what codecs were used.

  • QuickTime player turns movies white

    I have the new intel Mac Pro and the QuickTime player turns the movies that I need for homework white, it says that I need a third party software then it takes me to a page of them but doesnt say which one I need, I downloaded one of them but it still doesnt work. Im pretty sure I have Quicktime 7.1 but I downloaded the newest version 7.3.1 again just to make sure and it still doesnt work. One of the videos plays audio but just white video, the other one has nothing. One of the video clips has a v210, Integer (Big Endian) Timecode codec and the other is DVCPRO HD (1080i60) codec. They are not long in length only a few seconds but when I open them they just turn white. Help me please!

    It could might be that because your MacBook is brand new it may not have the codecs needed to play the files. I had problems playing avi (white screen with sound). If you download a few third party codes they may help. I loade up 3ivx (www.3ivx.com) and Divx (www.divx.com) and they did the trick. These are both UB and solved my problem. But if they are some fancy new codec only playable with the software that created it mayby a player other han Quicktime will play them. I'm not realy familiar with the codecs you mentioned and not sure if they are codecs that can be contained as an avi format. VLC (www.videolan.org/) plays almost anything.

  • Compressing "masked' quicktime movie-mask has ragged edges and white areas

    I have been masking quicktime movies with quicktime pro. I get a good-looking masked quicktime movie. But when I try to export to mp4 or other file types, the mask looks terrbile, the edges are ragged and some previously masked areas are now white. HELP!

    i tried apple 1, 2, and 3 for actual, double, and full size, always a white border in full screen. at actual size the side borders are bigger than the top and bottom, double and full it's a crisp 1 pixel grey line all the way around. i made the mask file 481x641 and 482x642 with no changes at all, all of them cut way inside the edges of the picture to avoid that border.
    strange part is at full size (more than double size for sure with these files) the border is exactly 1 pixel, not scaled up to 2.x pixels like you would expect if it was in the movie, not just the player sucking with masks. guess i'll hope someone notices and fixes in a future release. just like with the h.264 encoding border with masks. i guess the white border all the way around is better than a neon green one on the right side which i get with h.264
    /someone not testing QT with simple rectangular masks it seems
    here's a screenshot of my movie in fullscreen at double size so you can see the whole border:

  • Small white square in top left corner of some Quicktime movies I make?

    I have been wondering what that Small white square is that appears in top left corner of some Quicktime movies I make? When I export to Flash and upload, or even just upload to Vimeo an H.264 file, there it is, little white square. • Keynote '08 cannot export as Quicktime movie

    I purchased KN '08 to create presentations. It is updated to version 4.0.2. I have tried for the last 3 hours to export my presentation as a Quicktime movie. No matter what functions I turn off, or change, nothing seems to work. In fact, after the 3rd attempt, Keynote erased some photos out of my presentation. When I tried to re-add them, Keynote said it couldn't because I didn't have access to the file, or there was damage to the files. Luckily I had back-ups I could access.
    Is there a way to make this work? Why would Apple put out a product like this that doesn't work?
    Robby

    ditto. I have not been able export any of my presentations. Also, I could not get the recording to work consistently and correctly. I can't even get my PowerMac G5 with 5 GB RAM to play the slide show correctly.
    I found that the only work around is using Snapz Pro X while stepping through the the slide show. This creates a high quality QT movie.
    Keynote is not the only problem. Quick Time does not work properly either. Some movies, even high def movies, play flawlessly and some I take at only 640 x 480 gives me a "strobing" (flashing of white). This has happened in movies added to Keynote, movies streamed through Safari, and even some movies played in Quick Time Pro itself.
    I thought I had a lemon MacBook Pro, since I'm now on my third logic board/video card since I purchased last July, but I think it is also a software issue. I was hoping that Leopard would magically repair the problems with Quick Time, but it has not.
    Any suggestions in how to fix this would be appreciated. Why does some QT play without a problem and others so nasty? What is the ideal settings for a QT export? What is ideal resolution for movies included in Keynote to play without "strobing"?

  • Can't use HDV quicktime .mov files (captured in Final Cut Pro) on a mac at work) on my PC at home

    Hiya everyone!
    I've taken some work home from the macs at work, but can't open it on my PC.
    Footage was captured in FCP on a mac at work, HDV quicktime .mov, but won't open in the newest quicktime, windows media player and more importantly in Adobe After Effects CS3 or Premiere Pro CS3 on my PC at home.
    When I try opening the files in quicktime, the screen is white, but the audio plays. They don't open in windows media player at all. When I try to import them into Premiere, I get a message reading, "Error Message, Codec missing or unavailable". But they import into After Effects, except they only play as white...
    I've tried converting them into almost everything, and they often play (as .avi for example in the newest QT, WMP, Adobe Premiere and AE), but they increase A LOT in size and decrease A LOT in quality.
    The HDV files that won't open read as:
    Source: *.mov
    Format: HDV 1080i50, 1920 x 1080, Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), 48.000 kHz
    Movie FPS: 25.00
    Playing FPS: (Available when playing)
    Data Size: 69.53 MB
    Data Rate: 28.10 mbits/sec

    Duration: 00:00:20.76
    Normal size: 1920 x 1080
    Current size: 1920 x 1080
    Anything smaller than 1920 x 1080 plays fine.

    Does anyone here know how I can use the HDV files from the work macs on my PC at home?

    As a rule of thumb, any CoDec associated with the Apple Pro applications is generally not available on Windows. This also includes their flavor of HDV. The only exception at this point is ProRes, for which they added a player component recently. So therefore this would have to be what you use for capture/ export from FCP. Apart from that you can of course always buy a capture card from Blackmagic or AJA with the benefit of the CoDecs being available cross-platform... Or you use a commercial software-only CoDec like Cineform.

  • How do I get Javascript or HTML to open a QuickTime movie as a slideshow?

    I have turned a 320x240 pixel photo sequence into a QuickTime movie using the "File > Open Image Sequence ..." option. However, that required I specify an equal amount of time to display each photo.
    Using the following JavaScript, I can, from within a webpage, play that QuickTime movie as a movie in another window by simply clicking on the link to it in the webpage:
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    <!-- hide this script from old browsers
    // This script opens a new browser window and writes
    // HTML to play an video with a title and caption
    function show_movie( pFileName, pTitle, pCaption, pEnd) {
    // specify window parameters
    movieWin = window.open( "", "", "width=370,height=400,status,scrollbars,resizable");
    // wrote content to window
    movieWin.document.write('<html><head><title>' + pTitle + '</title></head>');
    movieWin.document.write('<BODY BGCOLOR=#000000 TEXT=#FFFFCC LINK=#33CCFF VLINK=#FF6666>');
    movieWin.document.write('<center>');
    movieWin.document.write('<font size="+1" face="arial,helvetica"><b>' + pCaption + '</b></font><br>');
    movieWin.document.write('<object width="320" height="256">');
    movieWin.document.write('<embed src="' + pFileName + '" width="320" height="256" autostart="true" pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/"></embed></object><p>');
    movieWin.document.write('<font face="arial,helvetica">');
    movieWin.document.write('' + pEnd + '<br>');
    movieWin.document.write('<p></font></body></html>');
    movieWin.document.write('<form>');
    movieWin.document.write('<input type=button value="Close Window" onClick="javascript:window.close();" name="button">');
    movieWin.document.write('</form>');
    movieWin.document.close();
    // If we are on NetScape, we can bring the window to the front
    if (navigator.appName.substring(0,8) == "Netscape") movieWin.focus();
    // done hiding from old browsers -->
    </SCRIPT>
    But some photos need to be displayed for a longer time than others.
    QuickTime 7.1.2 "View > Present Movie > Slideshow > Play" will play the movie as a slideshow -- the person looking at it has full control over how much time a photo is displayed before going to the next one.
    My JavaScript allows the user to pause the movie and continue it at will, but if I can modify it to play the movie directly as a slideshow like QuickTime 7.1.2, please let me know how.

  • QuickTime movie in Keynote 3 want to export Keynote as QT

    So I have a Keynote presentation. It is mostly images but 3 slides play small Quicktime movies. Interviews I did on DV, converted to 320x240 using Sorenson V3 and IMA 4:1 audio. In Keynote 3.0, they now have controls. They play great.
    But I need to export the presentation so others can use it without keynote.
    The only option seems to be exporting it as as a Quicktime movie.
    Actually, with trial and error, the Quicktimes in the Quicktime play great. BUT are missing controls!
    So anyone viewing the interactive Quicktime from a CD-R has no choice but to watch each clip. Longest is 17 minutes so a pause or stop is an option that is needed.
    Does anyone know how to get those QT controls (or at least stop or pause) into the movie inside the exported interactive Quicktime from Keynote?
    Is there a 3rd party solution? I'm desperate.
    Alternatively, if anyone knows how to do same but as a Flash file, that would be fine too.
    This was problem in Keynote 2.0 as well. My presentation size is big enough.
    Considering the convergence of audio and video all over Apple product line, I just don't get why this was not considered for the 3.0 update. I want to export my lectures for students to self run. I'm probably not the only university professor who shows video and would like Apple to deal with this ASAP.

    HEy, I have been looking into this problem... i also wanted to play quicktime files using my pc... The last thing i tried was downloadiing these codecs
    1)apple pro res *for pc
    2)mpeg 2 codec for pc
    I have HDV files captured on a Mac G5 they are 30p 720,
    I think i am close to solving the problem because: before installing the codecs i couldn't see the video and only audio.. but now i open it and i can see the video partially... here are my screen captures....
    anyone interested in getting this solved???,... i would also like some help in importing m2t files from VLC player to HDV split where they can be read and edited. Thank you.
    Ultimately my goal is to be able to edit these HDV files directly and export them back out with good quality.. because my only editing choice right now is Windows movie maker.
    this is an error i got from the HDV split program. Its supposed to read m2t files..

  • Help playing my quicktime movie on keynote

    I have a movie on quicktime. It plays perfectly fine when played through quicktime.
    I am making a presentation using keynote. I want to make one of my slides that movie. So I do exactly as I have been reading. Ok, so the movie is now on the slide, but all I see are the little white squares around it, no actual movie. Those same white squares that you get when your trying to move or select an item for edit. Anyways, I say well maybe it will play when I play my slide show. Still no movie. Sometimes I get a blank page when I get to the slide with the movie. Other times I get the actual control panal to play the movie, but yet not movie is playing regardless of how many times I rewind, and play etc.
    Can keynote play quicktime movies? If so what is the format they have to be in. The format of the movie in quick time is
    Apple Animation, 983 x 552, Millions+
    Please help, I really need this movie for my presentation.

    In the Inspector section find the Transitions controls. For that slide, select the delay time for the same length of time of the clip.
    Not sure if that will solve it but it's worth a try. That's how I got my QT clip to play.
    Good luck.

  • Putting a quicktime movie into keynote?

    When I put a quicktime movie in to keynote it shows video controls in the raw set but when I export it to an interactive quicktime movie it does not show the video controls is there any way to show the videos controls?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    EDIT: The below answer is wrong. I just read again, No, you can't do this in Keynote. Sorry!
    Ohh, I think I get it. When you export as a normal movie, the controller is turned on by default. When you export an interactive movie, the standard controller is turned off. To turn this on for interactive movies, you'd have to have QuickTime Pro, open the movie, do a command-J to open the properties, go into the Presentation tab and change "Movie Controller Type" from "None Movie Controller" to "Movie Controller".

    If you have Qt Pro, you can open the file and turn on a controller, then resave the file.

  • Why is the iDVD-burned CD of worse quality than the raw quicktime movie?

    Hello,
    I have digitzed some old VHS movie to quicktime using a simple USB video grabber. The quicktime movie that I got is of good quality. Then I have imported to iMovie, made the editing, finalized the movie, and shared to iDVD. The encoding is set to best performance, the format is PAL, 4:3, and then I have burned the DVD. When I look at the DVD on our TV the dark parts are really awful - digitizing noise all over the place.
    I then connected the computer directly to the TV and this is much better in quality . the background has no or little flicker, and the dark parts remain dark.
    What am I doing wrong? I refuse to beleive that this is as good as it gets - commercial DVDs are much better and this is from a €%&/# VHS, so there should not be any real degradation?!?

    anderssunesson wrote:
    When I inspected on a huge flatscreen it turns out that
    -all the iDVD movies have TERRIBLE pixellation
    Clearly when you look at a 720 x 576 DVD on a 42" LCD it will not look good unless you have good source footage AND a good encoder AND good upscaling from your player. iDVD does provide a good encoder but the other two may just not be up to the task.
    I personally made DVDs that looked good on a 42" Sony TV. But they were encoded in Compressor and played on a Blu-Ray player with excellent upscaling.
    anderssunesson wrote:
    How can I burn the mpeg-4 to a DVD without incurring the loss in quality? How do studios do this?
    You can't and they don't. First of, studios don't start out with highly compressed videos and secondly they have much better software encoders (which cost $$$$) like CinemaCraft or hardware encoders.
    anderssunesson wrote:
    There were some tips on round pixels vs square pixels. I will look into that. Do you need a special "DVD-digitizer" to save your old VHS movies??
    You can get something that goes from VHS to DV (instead of MPEG-4) like the Canopus converters and then edit in either iMovie 6 or FCE (both are EOL). In any case, bear in mind that you start out from VHS.

  • I get a General Error message when I convert my film to Quicktime Movie.

    I've compressed my film down to 24p etc etc. That worked fine. Before I did the compression there were some things I had to reconnect, did that, there was only one that didn't reconnect but the compression worked fine. Then I go to turn the film into a Quicktime Movie, I get to about 60% then I get a General Error message. Anyone have any ideas why thats happening?

    Have you tried the compression with cinema tools?
    make a quicktime movie of the stuff at 25 that you want to compress at 24 and go to cinema tools. make sure you create a new database at 24fps and try menu clip / comform. notice that cinema tools doesn't duplicate the clip, so it converts the one you are importing, make sure it is a copy of the original at 25

  • Is it possible to embed new aspect ratios into your quicktime movies?

    Well my subject line explains it all really. I was wondering if there was a way to embed the aspect ratio in my quicktime movies instead of manually resizing them whenever i open them to a ratio that suits the content better.
    thanks

    I was wondering if there was a way to embed the aspect ratio in my quicktime movies instead of manually resizing them whenever i open them to a ratio that suits the content better... I'd also love to know the answer to this. It's dead easy to amend an anamorphic movie to play at 133% of original width, but can a QT movie be told to open in that ratio the next time?
    Yes, however, to some extent, the method to be employed depends on your media player. QT 7 (and similar applications), for instance, will open using the "Current Size" display dimensions contained within the file. These dimensions are easily changed in the Properties window, using QT 7 Pro while the "Keep Aspect" switch is turned off and do not re-compress the data but may re-write the date to an MOV file container. On the other hand, applications that rely on the embedded PAR flag/value (like QT X, iMovie '08/'09', etc, must be re-compressed using the correct Anamorphic setting to re-embed the correct flag. When both settings are in agreement, an anamorphic file will open correctly in all players. However, where they differ, the files will open correctly in one type player and incorrectly in the other type of player.
