Quicktime .mp4 & ,mp3 in Safari via EDGE (o2 UK)

Hi there
I seem to be unable to view mp4 quicktimes or listen to podcasts (.mp3) when using the EDGE network. Everything works just nicely via wi-fi (i.e. touch the blue play arrow it brings up the standard transport controls and starts buffering) but visit the same pages via EDGE and no joy (i.e. I dont get the blue play arrow just the first frame of the movie as a static image)
The example pages are the Apple Movie Trailers site and the BBC podcasts iphone site.
Is this a general restriction (I cant seem to find a reference to it anywhere if it is) - or (hopefully) a setting somewhere.
Its a bit of a pain

It could be due to the slowness of the particular Edge connection you are getting -- if it's too slow that will indeed be a symptom.

right - so the appearance (or non-appearance) of the blue 'play' triangle is an indication of having buffered enough to start playing?
I'm not sure if that correct as (via wi-fi) after clicking/touching the play triangle the plugin then kicks in and bring up the usual transport controls and then starts buffering

  • Quicktime movies playing in Safari 4

Hi, when I used to watch Quicktime playable movies in Safari's web browser such as .mpg .avi .wmv I used to be able to save them as I have Quicktime Pro but since updating to Safari 4 I have not seen the small downward arrow to the bottom right of the movie that allows me to save files.
Also the Quicktime bar appears and disappears when I move the cursor over the movie and I cannot control the volume of the movie any more.
What has happened, why has it changed?
I tried on two different Macs running Safari 4.
Any help would be great cheers

Thanks; but, maybe the below link is better to illustrate my issue:
    http://www.farzadsf1gallery.com/f1_sounds/F1Ferrari1.mp3
    and
    http://www.farzadsf1gallery.com/f1sounds/brmv16.mp3
I use to be able to download and save this clip via Quicktime drop-down menu on the far right-hand side; since the upgrade to Safari 4 the drop-down menu is not present. I'm not trying to be a pain, but, I actual spent money for the Quicktime Pro to save mp3/skateboard video/uTube clips etc. I hope you can help.

  • Playing mp3s in Safari...

I did a search, and my problem is essentially the same as this archived topic, though obviously with newer versions of iTunes and Safari (6.0.4 and 2.0.3 respectively).
So really the problem is that Safari now automatically downloads mp3s to play in iTunes, when it used to play them in their own window with what appeared to be QT.
The keys here are that a) my hard drive crashed about a month ago, and it is since that repair that the change occurred; and b) I have tried seemingly every QT MIME setting, from checking all the related boxes to none, and many settings in between.
I, like the author of the archived topic, think it has something to do with iTunes defaulting itself. That's the part that I'm most hesitent to mess around with, because while I want online mp3 links to play in Safari via QT, I also want to maintain iTunes as the default player for mp3 files on the computer itself. I had managed to obtain this balance on my previous settings (ie. before the crash) so I know it can be done.
    Thanks,
    dan

Using defaults read com.apple.launchservices ( take great care using Terminal !! ) may give some clues too.

  • Can no longer simultaneously stream an mp3 in Safari when using fast user switching option.

After updating to ios 5, I can no longer stream an mp3 in Safari when I use the fast user switching option.  For instance, if you are listening to streaming content in a Safari tab and want to reference another app as soon as you switch from the Safari stream pauses.
This was not the case with previous versions of ios.  Any ideas on a work around to restore this functionality to keep Safarr streaming content in the background?

User switching problems is the very first thing I noticed with SL. I have a host of other problems with SL but this is one of the most frustrating. The user switching did not work on 10.6 very well either but was wicked fast in 10.5.x
Apple rewrote the Kernel so this type of thing is expected, still the test crew missed this very noticable problem. Hopefully 10.6.2 has a fix.

  • Quicktime Plugin Issue in Safari on Mac OSX Lion.

(Strange) Safari - Quicktime - issue on Mac OSX Lion (All Updates done - 20/11/2011)
Strange issue with Safari - Quicktime video playing - on Mac OSX Lion (All updates done till 20th Nov 2011 night)
Problem discovery: Tried to view the Apple iPhone 4S Keynote on Apple Website. Strange that Safari does not display any videos from Apple Website.
Following works OK:- You Tube worked fine.
    - Google Chrome worked fine. (It shows the quick time player loading and then displays the video absolutely fine.)
Conclusion: There is some problem with Safari Quicktime Plug-in.
    Strange Discovery:
    - There are two users on the MAC. Logged in with a general user (Non Admin)
    - When tried to view Apple Videos on Safary ... THEY WORKED FINE !!!
    - The user where they donot work is an ADMIN User ... Strange !!!
    System:
    - Mac-Mini 2010 - 8 GB RAM - with OSX Lion fully software updated until 20th Nov 2011 night.
    - DIVX is installed and is also a paid version - registered with DIVX website.
    - VLC is installed.
    - Perian was installed - after problem discovery - uninstalled it - no use.
Please help with a solution if anyone has faced and solved this problem. Sub question is : If DIVX / anyother plug-in causes problems with QuickTime plugin on Safari, why does it affect only one user on the system and not other users on that system ?
    Notes:
    1) There is a similar looking thread on MacRumors here but concluded that required to start a seperate one with clear problem statement.
    2) Apple Forums
    (a) One thread on topic that hints that some 3IVX plug-in can cause issues with Safari Quicktime Plugin: here
    (b) Another thread from Apple Forum, that hints that DIVX causes problems to Safari Quicktime Plug in, Link is Here

Refer to a thread on Apple Discussions Forum itself, Link is HERE; refer to the posting by "Charles Cole",

Charles writes about DIVX and QuickTime Plugin conflict in Safari:
One thing I've discovered that might help anyone having a Quicktime Plug-in issue. If you have DivX as a codec on your system (usually installed to play .avi files) you'll want to uninstall it so that Sarfari 5.1 will default to the Quicktime Plug-In and not the DivX plug-in. Otherwise, you can't see Quicktime movies in Safari.
Note: this post is about and at the time of OSX Lions launch, i.e. 10.7.0.
Now we have 10.7.2, still cannot believe Apple has not fixed this bug !!!

I know this has been solved as you reported, but I think you need to check with your e-mail provider. Did you also get this same e-mail on your computer? If you use the same ID for e-mail on computer and ipad, it should have appeared on both. It's very common spam. Check your computer to see if on it, the e-mail is in spam, or, if you deleted it on your ipad, check your recently deleted e-mails.
You might want to consider changing your password, though people sending spam, don't need it. My e-mail provider had me change my password, not because I was getting spam, but unknown to me, I was sending it!  (You'll still get some spam, though.) It's when you learn that you're unknowingly sending spam...that you must change your password.
    Hope this helps.
(Ss I was sending this, I just got an e-mail notification from the Nigerian... it got to my e-mail instead of going to spam.)

i'm in SA and it say Apple Support not available at the moment or something like that.
    Just got the new iMac.
    Still using MacBook Pro.
Files are on a external drive shared between these 2 mac platforms and I need to be able to
edit in QT 7 Pro on both as well.
The code was bought in August 2011.

  • Stream mp3s in safari

I was able to stream mp3s from safari and navigate away from the safari app with the mp3 still playing in the background. Now for some reason I am unable to do that. It stops playing when I hit the home button or if my phone locks. How do I fix this? Again, it was working earlier today.

Using Compressor 4, How do you create a droplet to transcode from final cut files to mp4, mp3 and m4v formatting?

Take a look at this section; it's pretty clear.
Compressor offers settings for each of the output formats you want. (For example, the m4v sttings for Apple Devices.)
    Good luck.

  • Cannot receive IMAP email via Edge or 3G but can via any wi-fi

    Hey everyone,
the subject pretty much says it all. I use my company's email, it's an IMAP account. Works perfectly via any wifi area, but never has via EDGE. I'm at the Apple Store trying it via 3G and it's not working either. Any suggestions or anyone else experience this?

It doesn't have anything to do with the server - and it happens for POP accounts as well. I work at a major university and have a POP account, and have the same problem. Mail will work fine on any WiFi network (my home, the university, random public hotpsots), but completely fail with "connection failed" message on 3G/EDGE.
Sat with the head of IT today for the university mail servers I use. Watched the iPhone hit the server on WiFi, but on 3G/EDGE, it was like the query never got to the mail server - no record of a connection at all.
So - I think there is either a major problem with how the 2.0 software handles a non-wifi connection in some cases, or it is an AT&T problem with the network connection. Either way, it is insanely frustrating, and clearly not a server problem on this end - I have used POP in Mac OS X mail for 5 years on this server, and for 3 years on a Palm Treo with ZERO issues.
Called AT&T tech support and talked to an iPhone specialist who was less than helpful. Gave me a case number and told me to call back with the head of IT on the phone with me. Not likely. Like the head of IT has nothing better to do than troubleshoot my iPhone.
I am considering returning the phone, as it is completely unreliable for mail.

  • Quicktime 6 MP3 error

    Hello,
An old bandmate of mine sent me a CD where he had collected all of our old very bad recordings and somehow made an audio disk. Quite a few of the recordings are two and three songs together so I created MP3s of them using iTunes and then went to trim them into separate songs using Quicktime 6. Unfortunately I get a window saying there is a program error when I try to export the new trimmed single song to an MP3.
    Any ideas?

Is that Quicktime Pro you are using? The non-upgrade version is pretty limited to what it will do.
I am also wondering if the method you use is doing recoding which will involve more quality loss. I don't think Quicktime does mp3s without converting to its own format first.
I use a utility called [mp3Trimmer|http://www.deepniner.net/mp3trimmer> for splitting mp3s without quality loss. I know there was an OS9 version (I may still have it) but I cannot see it on the author's web site. You could write him and ask.

  • Clicks and pops when QuickTime plays mp3 files in Safari

When I use Safari to play a mp3 file which opens with Quicktime in a new window, the playback is full of tiny clicks and pops. It sounds like there is a conversion (from 44,1kHz to 48kHz) problem, but I don't know how to be sure - or how to change settings to avoid this. It happens with streaming mp3 files from everywhere (not only a single website).
    Anybody else experiencing this?
    Helge K.

No, it's not just you: I get this too.
I can play the same files with any other app sans click, including QT player itself when it's not inside Safari
Very annoying. Did you find a fix?
    cheers

  • Convert quicktime mp4 to itunes mp3 with regular quicktime (not pro)

Help. I used PodTube to get a song off YouTube. (not a slideshow or anything) and its in mp4 format. It's in iTunes now, but as a movie. How can I get it to show as a song?
    Thanks

Buy it? If you want Pro features it is a logical step.
Did you try the iTunes method before asking this? I was speculating a bit, first off I don't know how you have an MP4 video file with no video but in theory it might reencode, it costs nothing to try and would take all of 5 minutes. Go ahed see what happens.
Another option is to open in MPEG Streamclip and export to AIFF then use the AIFF file in iTunes, again once in there reencode to MP3 or find some freeware AIF to MP3 encoder.
