"Quicktime MPEG-2 playback disabled..." - Can't re-install Compressor!

I just updated my system to SL today. Because of the MPEG2 playback problem in QT, I followed the instructions on this page:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3176
Since my updates including Pro updates were always done and that I'm usin LS 2009, I followed the last set of instructions on that page.
But when I get to re-installing Compressor from my install DVD, Compressor cannot be checked at all so I can't install it. I've still got the old Compressor in the Trash, but I've already performed the other operations.
What now? Thanks for any help!

Use this to uninstall Compressor the proper way: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm
FWIW, it is often best practice when installing a new OS to do a "clean install." That involves backing up or cloning your boot drive (or better yet, install a brand new one), then install the new OS, repair permissions, run Software Update, repair permissions, then install the applications. Repair permissions after each install and be sure to run Software Update as well.

If you install a brand new hard drive, or if you cloned your old one, the old hard drive or the clone can serve as a backup should you ever need to revert back to your old system

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component

I am new to Mac so please forgive my ignorance. I have a Sony video camera which has .mpg files. I wanted to use these files in imovie so I googled how to convert them and came up with MPEG Streamclip. It wiped my MPEG-2 Playback Component. I downloaded it again from the Apple store but when I went to install it told me it was too old for my system. What can I do now?
(P.S. hating that I converting anything to mac is so bloody complicated)

This particular aspect is a bit complicated!
As you can read on this page:  http://store.apple.com/uk/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
On OS X Lion and later, MPEG-2 playback functionality is built into QuickTime X. The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not required and cannot be installed.
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X

    Hello my friends
I would like to know if I can install my "QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X" in Leopard ?
I bought this component when I was in Tiger and I wouldn't make any mistake in installing it within Leopard which is working like a charm.
    Thanks
         Max

    Hello Smokerz
I've checked within my Apple Store Acount and the download link is still pointing to the same version as the one I bought... Maybe I shall wait until a new version is available.
    Thank you

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component Transfer

Hi, I bought the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component a couple years ago for video editing on my Macbook.  I just bought a new Macbook Pro to replace the old one.  Can I transfer the license from the old machine to the new one, or do I need to buy the prrogram again?
(Twenty bucks isn't that big of a deal, of course, but since I won't be using the old computer anymore it seems a waste not to ask.)
    Thanks!

If by "transfer the license from the old machine to the new one" you mean you are going to remove the component from the old computer and put it on the new one, then there isn't a problem. Your software agreement only restricts installation/use to one computer system per perchase/download. If you plan to use the component on both machines simultaneously, then buy a new component for use on the new computer.

  • I have Windows 8.1 and just bought the quicktime mpeg-2 playback component for windows and it won't install. I currently have Quicktime Pro.

I need to run Quicktime Pro and playback DVD with mpeg-2 content for school. I just downloaded Quicktime Pro, and purchased the quicktime mpeg-2 playback component for Windows, but I can't download it at all. Is this because my PC is running Windows 8.1?
If so, is there anything I can do?

    What do I do?
You actually have several options. However, since you specifically want to use it it with MPEG Streamclip, the easiest approach would be to download the MPEG Streamclip "Beta" package for the Mac which includes a utility app that will help install the QT MPEG-2 Playback component on Lion and later operating systems. Instructions and background info can be found HERE under the "Lion/Mountain Lion and MPEG-2 Playback Component" tab.

  • Hi, can someone tell me what exactly is QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg? its an installer file i need for downloading the QuickTime Mpeg-2 Playback Component. Where exactly can I find this as well?

hi, can someone tell me what exactly is QuickTimeMpeg2.dmg? Its some kind of installer file for downloading QuickTime Mpeg-2 Playbaack Component but I don't know where exactly to find it or how to get it on my mac?

    Hello,
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1332324
If you want it on your Mac, not sure it works or not in your OS version.
Then double click on the DMG, that'll mount the disk image, in that you'l likely see an installer .pkg to double click on to install.

  • Most recent version of QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback?

Is it 6.4? If not, how do I get 6.5 or higher? It is not showing up in Software Update.
I had to go back to my DVDSP 3 upgrade disc and just install the MPEG2 playback component from there to get it.
    I have version 6.4
My initial install was from a DVDSP 2 Upgrade disc (I own 1.5, but after I got my G5, I just installed with the upgrader and typed in both serials) and a Final Cut 4 full edition
I then bought DVDSP 3 Upgrade, which I never got around to installing before I bought Final Cut Studio, which I used to upgrade from FCP 4 to 5 and DVDSP 2 to 4.
My MPEG-2 Playback component was not there.
So I used the DVDSP installer, did a custom install, saw you could JUST install the playback component and there it was.
So do I have the most up to date version of it?
I am running Quictime 7.0.2 on OS 10.4.2
    Thanks!

The most recent version of the MPEG-2 Playback Component is 6.4.
It really doesn't matter how you got there. Have you tried opening a non protected MPEG-2 (a DVD format) using QT?
    Does it work?

  • Can I re-install Compressor 4 on a second computer? If so, how?

I recently bought Compressor 4 through the app store onto my MacBook Pro where I am learning FCP X. I now wish to install it on my MacPro. How do I do that? Thanks. [email protected]

You can install it on both computers with one purchase. Make sure both computers have the same (Mac) App Store account before you down load Compressor. Once you pay for it and download to the first computer you can download it on the other computer. The second computer will have an install button for Compressor.

  • Can't Re-install Compressor or Q-Master

This all began with Compressor not submitting a batch, instead giving this error:
"Please restart your computer or verify your Compressor installation is correct"
So per various postings and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888, I moved forward with reinstalling Compressor and Qmaster, following all the steps Apple suggests, including uninstalling Motion. However, when I run the FC Studio installer, all packages but Motion are grayed out as well as the Continue button. I checked my Receipts folder and no Final Cut/ProApps receipts appear to be in there. So now I'm stumped.
FWIW, my Compressor issue seems to have arisen after upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard. And I have Final Cut Studio 2.

Upgrading is bad. Final Cut Studio is complex with lots of files and frameworks dotted about the system. When you upgrade, it's very easy for these files to be removed, replaced or set with incorrect permissions. That's why it's recommended to install your OS from scratch or at the very least, remove Final Cut Studio and reinstall it.
Here is a guide to reinstalling Compressor / Qmaster:

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Component cant playback High Profile High Level content

Is the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component really unable to playback HP HL content?
Im encoding high bitrate media content to mediaservers with my Mac Pro and have used VLC so far to playback the encoded files.
VLC however doesent loop flawlessly so i decided to try QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component.
To my disappoinment it did not play back the High Profile High Level Mpeg-2 content at all.
It tried, but no image was visible and only a few digital bleeps could be heard from soundtrack.
Why call it a playback component if it cant do the job?

  • Quicktime Mpeg Component?

    Hello all,
nowthen, I am producing music videos for terrestial broadcast using Final Cut Studio that have to follow these requirements:
    extension: .m2p
    audio: mpeg2
    video: mpeg1
    video bit rate 8359kbs
    audio bitrate 384kbs
    lower field first
    constant bitrate
    closed GOP
I have tried exporting using Quicktime compression but the end user can't read the files and suggested I used Squared5 which when I use that I can't get to the export to Mpeg with MP2 audio, the option is is always subdued in colour.
I've tried downloading the update from here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update/
but the server cannot be found.
When I used Compressor the end user cannot read the files.
Can anyone (pleeeease) suggest what to do?
What should be the right format of export from Final Cut for Squared5 Mpeg Streamclip?
What plugin should or could I be using with quicktime instead?

Yes, it was late, and at the end of very long day, so I evidently needed to check the client's email. However, I am still at the same point, that being unable to properly convert music videos cut with graphics in Final Cut and exported as Mpeg2 .m2p files. On the Squared5 website under requirements it says:
"For MPEG-2 playback and conversion, you need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. You can buy it from Apple (www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2). If you have either Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro, then the component is already installed and you don't have to buy it; but you may need to download the latest version from Apple. If you bought an older version of the component, you can update it to the latest version (www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update). Note that the MPEG-2 component is neither required nor useful for MPEG-1 or MPEG-4 files. But it is required for VOB files and transport streams, because they are MPEG-2 files."
when clicking on the second link there is this at the bottom of the screen:
"Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro and Final Cut Studio Users:
If you received your MPEG-2 Playback Component as part of Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut Studio, you can download the update with your Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut Studio serial number. Download Update."
However clicking on the 'Download Update' we're told the page no longer exists. Does the offer on the component for free no longer exist?
Is there a way of exporting from Final Cut Pro/Studio to the above format and specs with the setup and software that I already have, and if not what upgrade do I need?

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Component does play mpeg-2 files but without voice

    Hi,
I bought the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to be able to play MPEG-2 files from Hitachi HDD camera. I did install it and it plays files beautifully, but without voice. As a matter of fact, I can't hear any mpeg-2 audio on any software. If I'm changing the format to MPEG-4 the voice doesn't come back. If I listen to MPEG-4's converted before I installed to software, they are alright.
    HELP needed
    Matti

Muxed audio formats do not export audio when QuickTime is involved.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) as it can export the audio portion of the file.

  • Quicktime Mpeg-2 Component won't work for Snow Leopard

I just installed this component (v.7.6) to my Macbook for my Quicktime 10. (13-inch, 2006 version) Everything went smoothly and it said it was installed successfully. Yet, I still can't play mpeg-2 videos on my computer and when I went to the Quicktime Components folder under Libraries, there wasn't a Mpeg-2 Component. What did I do wrong?

    Ok.
Just to cover all the bases, is this the apple mpg2 component you installed?

Also, maybe instead of using quicktime you might try using another player like vlc.

  • Quick Time Pro and MPEG-2 Playback plugin

    Hi,
I recently purchased Quicktime pro and the MPEG-2 playback plug in. I installed them no problem but when I try and playback a .vob file that on my harddrive, it seem to be playing but all I get is a white screen.
When I play the file using VLC media player it works fine.
Once I get it playing I want to convert it to a quicktime movie file
    Thanks for any help
    Regards
    Liam

Similar problem here, only on a Mac. Someone gave me a .vro file with home movies on it, so I bought the MPEG-2 plug-in and now QuickTime crashes immediately whenever I try to play the video.
Some relevant information from the crash:

    Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000004

Aside from the fact that I can't view the video, I'm less than pleased that I spent $20 only to have it crash instead of tell me it's an unsupported video format.

  • Mpeg-2 playback component needed?

I am trying to use streamclip to export a DVD to quickTime but a prompt says I need the mpeg-2 playback component to make it work. But, when I go to the Apple website to download it, the website says I do not need it for Mountain Lion and above. Catch-22? What do I need to do?
