Quicktime MPEG IMX 625/50 export - how to disable gamma correction?

Hello,
Since there seems to be no support for encoding an MPEG IMX stream into a Quicktime container out of the box in Premiere CS5.5 I have managed to cheat IMX in there by using Quicktime component files from a Final Cut Pro installation. This seems to work fine, I now see all kinds of IMX options under the Video Codec section in Quicktime export, but there is one problem...
There is no way to edit any codec settings to turn off Quicktime Gamma correction, as you can do if you are exporting to Apple ProRes. What happens is - I need to add a Gamma Correction filter to every timeline to make it darker, because the default encoder settings automatically include some gamma correction that makes all rendered videos slightly brighter than they should be. This is a bit annoying.
Does anyone know if there is a way to disable Gamma Correction for MPEX IMX Quicktime files? Also, when will Adobe include native MPEG IMX encoder support? A lot of broadcasters in Europe (especially Eastern countries) still use IMX as their codec in their playout facilities - sometimes in Quicktime containers and sometimes in .mxf containers. Premiere needs to supports this.
Thanks!

Hi JS,
Thanks for the reply.
I can do but they're big files (about 2 to 3 gigs each - long takes!) so would take a while.  I'd have to do it tomorrow now coz they're on a hard drive at the office.

  • MPEG IMX 625/50 export from FCPX

    Hi,
is there a way to export to IMX 50 (MPEG IMX 625/50) from FCPX directly or by sending it to Compressor 4 ?
FCPX manual says that it can work with IMX files but I cannot find a way to export to it. I have also looked through Compressor 4 manual and can't see this export option either. Please help.

    Hi Tom,
maybe I am missing something here but I cannot see an 'export' menu in FCPX.
I've looked through the entire interface with no luck. I only see that share timeline range button:
which has really limited options to choose from.
In the File menu I only have the Export XML... Please don't mind if this is something obvious but I am still learning the whole new interface, which by the way is simply awesome!

  • Quicktime X not seeing audio track in MPEG IMX 625/50 movie file.

Quicktime X is not seeing the audio track in MPEG IMX 625/50 movie files that I generate elsewhere. This is evident by the fact that Quicktime X player will not play the audio track or report that it exists and likewise in FCP X. However Quicktime 7 Player will play the audio track. What's more, the preview pane play option on the movie file icon will actually play back the audio track in the preview mode. Any ideas?

Ok, I have posted 2 images. One is the of the movie inspector from Quicktime 7 Player which shows the audio track properties for BARS.mov. The other is the movie inspector properties for Quicktime X for BARS.mov. As can be seen, Quicktime X Player does not detect the audio track which is present.
I'm not sure how to make the BARS.mov file available. It's only 10MB.

  • MPEG IMX 625/50 codec problems CS5

    Hi All,
I have some .mov files that were shot on an Arri Alexa (720x576 25i native), recorded onto sxs cards, transfered to a mac then copied via portable hard drive to a pc.  Problem is, the files play fine on a MAC but with the exception of VLC, nothing on the PC will play them - not even Quicktime!  QT says they are in  mpeg imx 625/50 format.  Can anyone tell me how to import them into CS5 so I can edit them on the PC.  Windows 7 x64.
    Thanks.

  • How to disable distortion correction for micro 4/3 lens

    Hello,
I have an Olympus E-P2 and Panasonic 14-45mm lens.  Adobe Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 appear to be performing some very heavy-handed distortion correction at the wide-end of the zoom (running the file through a different raw converter yields dramatically different results at the edges).  This is without selecting any lens profile or enabling manual correction.  How can I disable this?
    Thanks,
    Dara
P.S. Strangely, ACR 6 is not doing any correction of chromatic aberration.  Given that the system is set up to try and fix distortion and vignetting automatically, it would make a lot of sense to fix CA too.

That's a solution.  It doesn't however answer my question.  Clearly there is some metadata tag that tells ACR what corrections to apply.  Using EXIFTool, I can replace all the metadata with that from a shot with a non-correctable lens.  Unfortunately, this screws up my cataloguing by replacing other things like focal length, aperture and so on.  It would be nice to know the exact tag.  Thanks.

  • How to disable spelling correction languages?

I have two spelling-correction languages installed: English and Dutch. But in the context 'Languages'-menu I can choose from 6 versions of Dutch and 4 versions of English. I'd like to disable or remove 8 of them, because I never use them. Is this possible and if so, how?

  • Exporting MPEG IMX

I have a client requirement and seems that it is becoming more and more popular. They ask for dvd mpeg IMX export with these specificaions:
    IMX30 Standard Definition:
Video File File: IMX30 QuickTime MOV or OP1a MXF wrapped
    File Extension: .mov or .mxf
    File Chroma Encoding: 4:2:2
    Encoding Bitrate: 30Mbit/sec
    Encoding GOP: I frame only
    MPEG Encoding Type: Interlaced TFF
    Video Standard: PAL
Levels: Standard Video Levels BT.601 (16-235. Not
    RGB 0-255)
Aspect Ratio: 16/9 or 4/3 per destination requirements
    Frame Size: 720(H) x 576(V) pixels (PAL), 720 x 480
    (NTSC)3
Frame Rate: 25.00 fps (PAL), 29.97 (NTSC)
Picture Scan Type: Interlaced TFF or Progressive
Duration: As specified at upload time mm:ss:ff1
I know I can export  .MXF via MXF OP1a but I can't see any of the parameters that I can edit. Are the default parameters standard like the requirements above? Or do I have to bring my material out to encode this? Thanks.

IMX is by definition an I-frame only Rec.601 format, so the only parameter you need to worry about is the aspect ratio.

  • The preset to Export as a xmf for a sony Mpeg IMX

I´m working with adobe premiere cs4, I can import files captured from a Betacam Sony Mpeg IMX, I captured that file, edit it, but I can´t export the video files to the same format (xmf), because in the "preset" for export doesn´t appear xmf for sony, only P2 for panasonic... what else can I do to export this video for xmf (sony).???

My only guess would be to add SDI capabilities to your system (via an AJA or BlackMagic card) and play out to tape.

  • How to disable quicktime in firefox, and launch with VLC.

I have tried to disable the quicktime browser plugin in quicktime to not open .mpeg and simular files, however they still launch the quicktime player plugin in firefox. How can I get it so that any video file i click on asks me which program I would like to open it with?

Couple ways to treat these situations. Here's one solution:
Go to System Preferences < Quicktime. Click on the Advanced Tab. Click on MIME Settings and select (or de-select) media types you don't want Quicktime to open by default.

  • Can anyone help? I have downloaded and installed the QuickTime MPEG-2 Component but it doesn't work.

I purchased the QuickTime MPEG-2 component for Quicktime as I am using Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and I want to be able to via MPEG-2 transport streams.
I paid £14.00 - everything downloaded and installed fine but it doesn't work and I am still unable to view the transport streams in Quicktime even though according to the website this is want the component will let me do.
I have rebooted several times, reinstalled both Quicktime and the MPEG-2 component and still nothing.  I have then spent ages going around and around in circles on the website trying to find a way of emailing customer services or technical support to get some assistance but I just always end back in the same place no further forward.
Please can anyone else offer any suggestions - either how I can get it working or how I can get my £14 back from Apple!!

    1) Suggest you reread the "Feature" details for the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component paying particular attention to the paragraph titled "Can transport streams be played?" which clearly states that this codec does NOT support the playback of transport stream (TS) files.
    2) This codec can only be used with "classic" QT apps such as the QT 7 player, GarageBand, or third-party apps like the free MPEG Streamclip app.
    3) The VLC player intrinsically supports TS files. MPEG Streamclip with the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installed supports TS file playback.
    4) MPEG Streamclip with the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installed can also resave muxed TS file content as muxed program stream (PS) content which is then "playback" compatible with both QT 7 and QT X players (assuming you select an audio compression format compatible with both) or convert the muxed TS content to QT "edit" compatible compression formats if desired.
Please can anyone else offer any suggestions - either how I can get it working or how I can get my £14 back from Apple!!
Apple seldom makes refunds to people who successfully purchase software which they do not really understand how to use—cavaet emptor. It is difficult to make suggestions here without knowing more about your personal preferences and/or work flow requirements. I personally would keep the codec to enhance various playback, conversion, and editing options on my Mac.

  • Quicktime Mpeg Component?

    Hello all,
nowthen, I am producing music videos for terrestial broadcast using Final Cut Studio that have to follow these requirements:
    extension: .m2p
    audio: mpeg2
    video: mpeg1
    video bit rate 8359kbs
    audio bitrate 384kbs
    lower field first
    constant bitrate
    closed GOP
I have tried exporting using Quicktime compression but the end user can't read the files and suggested I used Squared5 which when I use that I can't get to the export to Mpeg with MP2 audio, the option is is always subdued in colour.
I've tried downloading the update from here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update/
but the server cannot be found.
When I used Compressor the end user cannot read the files.
Can anyone (pleeeease) suggest what to do?
What should be the right format of export from Final Cut for Squared5 Mpeg Streamclip?
What plugin should or could I be using with quicktime instead?

Yes, it was late, and at the end of very long day, so I evidently needed to check the client's email. However, I am still at the same point, that being unable to properly convert music videos cut with graphics in Final Cut and exported as Mpeg2 .m2p files. On the Squared5 website under requirements it says:
"For MPEG-2 playback and conversion, you need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. You can buy it from Apple (www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2). If you have either Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro, then the component is already installed and you don't have to buy it; but you may need to download the latest version from Apple. If you bought an older version of the component, you can update it to the latest version (www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update). Note that the MPEG-2 component is neither required nor useful for MPEG-1 or MPEG-4 files. But it is required for VOB files and transport streams, because they are MPEG-2 files."
when clicking on the second link there is this at the bottom of the screen:
"Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro and Final Cut Studio Users:
If you received your MPEG-2 Playback Component as part of Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut Studio, you can download the update with your Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut Studio serial number. Download Update."
However clicking on the 'Download Update' we're told the page no longer exists. Does the offer on the component for free no longer exist?
Is there a way of exporting from Final Cut Pro/Studio to the above format and specs with the setup and software that I already have, and if not what upgrade do I need?

just purchased the quicktime mpeg 2 and trying to use mpeg streamclip in order to convert mpeg files to quicktime files but alas the streamclip keeps telling me my mpeg 2 needs update...
Any ideas how I can get the stream clip to work with my new mpeg 2 player?
    Thank You

Have you tested playing the MPEG-2 clip from Quicktime Player to be sure the MPEG-2 support is installed and working? If so, you might get a better answer from the StreamClip people, as to what version of QT Player and MPEG-2 they support.
Also, check Apple's software update to see if there is an update for your new MPEG2 component. It doesn't seem like it should be that way, but sometimes the purchase can be out of date.

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component

I am new to Mac so please forgive my ignorance. I have a Sony video camera which has .mpg files. I wanted to use these files in imovie so I googled how to convert them and came up with MPEG Streamclip. It wiped my MPEG-2 Playback Component. I downloaded it again from the Apple store but when I went to install it told me it was too old for my system. What can I do now?
(P.S. hating that I converting anything to mac is so bloody complicated)

This particular aspect is a bit complicated!
As you can read on this page:  http://store.apple.com/uk/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
On OS X Lion and later, MPEG-2 playback functionality is built into QuickTime X. The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not required and cannot be installed.
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Component does play mpeg-2 files but without voice

    Hi,
I bought the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to be able to play MPEG-2 files from Hitachi HDD camera. I did install it and it plays files beautifully, but without voice. As a matter of fact, I can't hear any mpeg-2 audio on any software. If I'm changing the format to MPEG-4 the voice doesn't come back. If I listen to MPEG-4's converted before I installed to software, they are alright.
    HELP needed
    Matti

Muxed audio formats do not export audio when QuickTime is involved.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) as it can export the audio portion of the file.

  • Quicktime MPEG 2 Component

    Hello all,
I had to reinstall Tiger recently. I did an archive and install, so that all my prefs would carry across, and anything that didn't would still be in the previous system library. I noticed that a lot of Quicktime plugins fell into this latter category, and I had to copy them across into the new system folder. No problem so far.
But yesterday, when I tried to open a DVD .vob in MPEG Streamclip, which I had always been able to do previously, MPEG Streamclip told me it could open the .vob because the Quicktime MPEG 2 Component was missing. I went to the previous system folder, system/library/quicktime, and sure enough there was the aforementioned component. When i tried to copy it over, though, a dialogue came up with a choice to "authenticate" - but selecting that option did nothing.
I take it now (but correct me if I'm wrong) that this component is installed as part of Quicktime Pro when you have Final Cut Pro intalled on your machine. I do have FCP installed, and retained it of course when I did the archive and install. I've fired up FCP to see if it installs the MPEG 2 component in the current library, but no joy.
I know it's only 20 bucks to buy the QT MPEG 2 component from the Apple store, but I feel like that's a bit of a ripoff seeing as I paid a grand or so for FCS and the component should already be there.
Any tips for how to move QT MPEG 2 Component from my previous system library into the current one, or reinstall it given I have FCS/QT Pro?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Rob

Archive and Install is not an advisable way to reinstall your operating system. It's fine for things like iTunes but it could make more complicated apps like Final Cut Pro unstable.
It might be worth reinstalling Final Cut Studio:

When i tried to copy it over, though, a dialogue came up with a choice to "authenticate" - but selecting that option did nothing.
Did it not ask you for an admin password?
