Quicktime mpeg2 plug in

I have an imac 24 and snow leopard is installed, on aplles web site it has a plug-in that allow mpeg2 to be played on quicktime, downloaded it and for a while it worked great. now it will play the mpeg2 but I have not sound. I have video but the volume slider is gone, any other format that is made to play on quicktime normally, plays with sound, but mpeg2 with this plug in will play the video, but no sound any help with this would be great, since this is not a apple product no support is available even though it is on aplle's website and I had to pay apple for it.

If you are referring to the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component ($19.99), then it is an Apple product. It is a video codec only and does not support all forms of "muxed" audio possibilities. There are three like possibilities here:
1) Your movie may contain an unsupported audio format along with the MPEG-2 video,
2) You may have failed to update/install the latest version compatible with your OS, or
3) When you upgraded to Snow Leopard, you may have neglected to install the older, 32-bit version of QT 7.
Therefore, to try and determine where your particular problem lies, please determine:
1) What is audio format and file container type for your problem movie?
2) Do you have the QT 7.6 compatible component installed?
3) Is QT v7.6.3 also installed on your system?

  • OSX Lion QuickTime Internet Plug-In causes high CPU load

    I have OSX Lion installed.
Now I have a CPU load between 80 to 130% caused by the Quicktime internet plug-in if I watch my ip-camera with Safari. Also I get no Audio out of my ip-camera anymore. In SnowLeopard everything was fine, Safari CPU load at 30%. What is wrong ? Can anybody help me ? It is an Y-Cam Knight SD and a MacMini core 2 Duo.
    Karsten Preussner from GERMANY

I had this same problem and couldn't get it to work at all. I tried to install the 3IVX plugin listed here and it didn't do anything. So I uninstalled it.
Then I thought to try my Macbook Pro and see if it was working on that computer, sure enough it was. I checked the HD/Library/Quicktime folder and it only had 4 items in it, whereas on the Mac Pro (that was not working) had 19 itmes in there. So, I moved all 19 out to a new folder and copied only the ones that were in the MBP. When I opened Safari IT WORKED!!!  NO MORE PLUGIN FAILURE.
So, I must have just had too many old things in the quicktime folder that was causing it to fail.
Here is a screenshot of my HD/Library/Quicktime folder contents.  The top folder shows the 4 items that should be in there (Perian is optional) and the bottom window in the screenshot shows all the stuff I previously had in there which caused the failure.
So If you are having this plugin failure, try removing all but these essentials from your HD/Library/Quicktime folder.  It worked for me!

  • Purchased Quicktime MPEG2. No audio.

I've just purchased Quicktime MPEG2 playback component for my Mac OS X, and downloaded MPEG Streamclip, and I'm getting no audio from the DVD I imported into imovie. What do I do now?

I've just purchased Quicktime MPEG2 playback component for my Mac OS X, and downloaded MPEG Streamclip, and I'm getting no audio from the DVD I imported into imovie. What do I do now?
What content are you trying to play in which application on what operating system? "Muxed" MPEG-2 content imported to iMovie for instance, should now be a MOV file containing all I-frame MPEG-2 video with AC3 audio converted to linear PCM. This file should play in almost any player on the importing system assuming the playing application/system is not muted. On the other hand, "muxed" MPEG-2/AC3 or MPEG-2/PCM content is not normally supported natively by QT (except by Lion and then only in a supported file container) since the MPEG-2 Playback component is a video only codec. MPEG Streamclip should be able to play/demux/convert "muxed" MPEG-2 content and if it doesn't then you may be looking at a more serious or complex problem and will have to provide more information and/or a sample of the problem content for examination/playback comparison on other systems/system configurations.

  • Quicktime mpeg2 - no sound

I recently purchased and downloaded a component Quicktime mpeg2 so that I could play .mpg files on my Mac. When I open these files they now play, but there is no sound. How do I get the sound to play?
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Why can I hear and see the apple mpeg2 sample
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n75424-de
but cannot hear anything with my movie? The sample file is a "muxed" MPEG2/MP2 file which is supported by the QT Player when the MPEG-2 component is installed.
What are the differences between QickTime and VLC.VLC is more of a "multi" multimedia player handling "muxed" and interleaved spatially synchronized audio/video data, as well as, QT's temporally "frame-to-framed" synchronized audio and video. In addition, it includes "device encoded" optical output while QT does not.... and so on.
Why it doesn't work with Quicktime inclusive mpeg2 codec? As indicated above, QT w/MPEG-2 component only supports the MPEG2/MP2 (i.e., MPEG-1, layer 2 audio) "muxed" format, elementary M2V video files with corresponding AIFF audio files, and/or custom M2V video track MOV files with QT compatible audio track. The normal solution to your problem is to use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert your "muxed" audio data to QT compatible MP2 data. (I.e., using the "Convert to MPEG with MP2 audio" File Menu option to change the file to one like the sample file above. This is a very quick conversion since the video data is not changed.)

  • Adobe quicktime flash plug-in won't stay plugged in

I have installed and re-installed the adobe quicktime flash plug-in for powerPC based macs several times over the past few weeks. Each time the plugin works for about one or two surfs on the internet then the little "Q-?" symbol appears again only to my great frustration. This seems to happen at the same time in both firefox and safari. Any suggestions about what to do? I tried repairing permissions and restarting after install. Thanks. Erin

    Apple Discussions!
    Try the following:
QuickTime Preferences > Advanced > MIME Stettings > Miscellaneous.
    Deactivate the "Flash Media" option.
This tells the browser not to to display Flash Media and lets the newly installed Adobe software work its magic.
    ==================
If the above thread doesn't help, try this...
Last but not least: Thanks to QuickTimeKirk........
    Quit QuickTime.
Open User (Home)/Library/Preferences and delete any .plist file with QuickTime in its name. Don't worry as a new one will be created.
Open System Preferences/QuickTime and see if the window and tabs work as they should.

I ran the installer again, Quicktime MPEG-2 Playback without error. I'm not sure if this problem arose after the QT 7.3.1 update or the last security update. Anyone else?

  • Can I play 3D movies on a 3D TV using Quicktime 7 and the FBX QuickTime Viewer Plug-in from Autodesk?

Can I play 3D movies on a 3D TV using Quicktime 7 and the FBX QuickTime Viewer Plug-in from Autodesk?  I would like to play 3D movies which are in Side by Side or Top/Bottom format where the image for each eye is 1080 x 720p.  I would like to output to a 3D TV connecting it to the Mac graphics card DVI output (with a HDMI 1.3 converter) using the 2nd Display option of Quicktime.
These would be my 3D movies created with Final Cut and Stereo3D Toolbox from Dashwood.

What type of files are these? It does seem odd that iTunes and QuickTime will still play the files, but Front Row refuses to.
Did you have any codecs or plugins for QuickTime installed? It may be possible that one of the updates is either incompatible with, or removed, one of these.
I recommend downloading Perian - a very versatile codec that allows the playback of many media files - and see if this cures the issue.

What app are you using to try and mount the image file? The default should be the DiskImageMounter.app application. If it is still the default app, then it sounds like the image file, the mounter app, or your system is corrupted. If not, then make it the default app for the DMG file class.

  • Bought QuickTime MPEG2 component - "installed" but it's not there

I just bought the MGEG2 component and ran the installer - it said it was going on my hard drive, ran the progress bars, etc., and even gave a nice cheery "installaiton Successful" announcement with an attractive green check mark,  Too bad it didn't do jack for QT's ability to open files.
When I look in my (hard drive)/Library/QuickTime/  directory, it's not there.
It should have a resource filenamed "QuickTime MPEG2.component" (everything there is for audio (AC3), Div6, Perian, Flip4Mac and the Save as AVI component from MPEG Streamclip.)
Antbody understand why it's not where it should be?
    Reference info:
    OS 10.6.7
    QT Pro 7.6.6
    MacBookPro (Intel 2 GHz)
    component installer v. 7.6
(creation date Jan 14, 2009)  <- too old?

    1) What part of their MP4 doesn't my version of QuickTime understand?  (It reads a lot of mpeg-4s, what does it need to know?)
You have two different facets here.
The first is MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) video multiplexed with AC3 audio wrapped in an M2TS, MPG, or MPEG file container. This has many problems. On the one hand the video is MPEG-4 and so the QT MPEG-2 Playback component cannot decode it but it is wrapped in an file container that is basically telling QT to use the QT MPEG-2 Playback component for video playback (i.e., much the same as why VLC considers the content MPEG-1/2 data because that is what both media players expect even though VLC can actually handle the audio and video data in this wrapper). On the other, QT is not natively compatible with AC3 audio and cannot play it natively even if it was able to "demux" the blocks of audio and video data properly and synchronize the two to a common external time reference which is the basis for QT media technology. (I.e., The wrapper being used is based on spatial synchronization of audio and video data interspersed in a single data stream rather than the temporal synchronization of up to 99 parallel data tracks normally used by QT—a basic difference in player technology akin to trying to play a BD disc in a CD player.) Normally, the way around this problem is to use iMovie '08, '09, or '11 to import your content. iMovie contains a special import/converter module to handle this content. Basically, it converts the AVCHD video to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec), converts the AC3 audio to resampled linear PCM (AIFF) and applies timing offsets as may be needed to ensure synchronization between audio and video content. This data is then wrapped in the generic QT MOV file container making the files compatible with any/all QT based applications. Unfortunately, the special module cannot be used by files already imported to your hard drive at the "Finder" file level.
As to MP4 (SD MPEG-4, Chapter 2) content, these files may or may not be compatible with QT depending on how the audio is encoded, the file container actually used, and/or how your system is actually configured with QT components. In most cases, making the content compatible may be as easy as doing nothing, to changing the file extension or copying the data to a real MOV file container to using MPEG Streamclip to convert/handle the audio content.
    2) Why does VLC show the file properties as MPEG-1/2?
Like QT, when VLC sees the wrapper file extension, it "assumes" the file contains a specific type (or range) of data types and reports accordingly. The main difference here, is that VLC can actually play the AVCHD data natively while QT cannot.
By the way the MPEG-2 description jived with a review - CNET, I think -  which I'd read online.  No doubt this will provoke another one of those explanations that always boil down to "you don't understand, the wrapper isn't telling you what's in the files"  responses.  Is there a tool for telling what the thing actually is?
Interpretations can sometimes be confusing. HDV content can also be described or reported as MPEG-1/2 content since it is sometimes described as DV100 encoded data wrapped in an MPEG-2 file container. As to what is actually in a file container and utilities to read them, there are a number of such available as free downloads. Unfortunately, many will have the same problem with MPEG/MPG containers if they bother to read them at all but do really well with other file containers. Since most of the content I deal with is MOV, MP4, and/or M4V, I tend to use the free VideSpec and/or Dumpster utilities. In my case I am more worried about MPEG-4 Profiles and Levels, entropy encoding modes, fourCC identifications, key frame frequency, key frame data rates, how the data is distributed between key frames, and the like when trouble shooting problems and most of my dealings with AVCHD are limited to the conversion of DVR/BD content to TV2 compatible content since I don't even own an AVCHD camcorder (and still prefer HDV for editing purposes).
The broader question remains - is QuickTime meant to be general purpose, at least as a player?
No, it isn't. As previously stated, QT technology is based on temporal synchronization of multiple parallel data tracks (up to 99) to a common reference clock and not spatial synchronization by interspersing of blocks of data within a single stream or the interleaving of data frames (which QT can handle because the data is only out of sync by one half-frame per n-1 tracks). This is great if you mask, layer, window, etc. content within a single player but severely limits QT compatibility with older and/or currently competing technologies. In short, pick your player/converter based on the technology used in the source file and not because you think QT should be an all purpose, one size fits all multimedia utility. If FLV Crunch meets your needs, then by all means use it.
I took some similar files I got from a recent model Canon to a video professional's (family) and they couldn't be read by a current version of FinalCut Pro.
Which model Canon? Which "current" version of FCP, the suite or the new FCP X release? Do you have a short snippet you can upload for examination? Have yet to research the pros and cons of the latest release but plan to do so next month if/when I have the time. (I.e., users seem to either really love it or really hate it.)
PC video straightforward, Mac a colossal hassle until you find the right 3rd party application: does that sound wrong to anybody else?
If you opt to use an import work flow that preserves the QT file incompatibilities instead of a work flow that ensures QT playback, conversion, and editing compatibilities, is it the fault of the software or the user?

  • Quicktime MPEG2 Codec Softward

Just downlaoded Quicktime MPEG2 software which would help convert my .mod files to a usable format in imovie. Paid my S$35 (about US$25) but whehn it was downloafing I got a message saying my Mac OS was too modern for this software!
How can the Apple shop be selling stuff which cannot be used on Lion? Since it is an electronic download there will be no refund and I feel completely ripped off. Any ideas would be really welcome to one very pi**ed off Apple funder.

Whle the Lion installer will not let you install the software automatically because MPEG-2 is already supported for the QT X Player app, the purchased QT MPEG-2 Playback component can still be installed for use by the QT 7 Player and third-party apps like MPEG Streamclip which also rely on your system's codec component configuration. There are several ways to do this
    1) You can install the component on an older system and then move the component to the same location on your Lion system.
    2) You can use the MPEG Streamclip "helper" app included in the MPEG Streamclip "beta" package to directly install the purchased component package on your Lion system.
    3) You can use the Pacifist app to either automatically install the component or extract and manually install the component on your Lion system
    4) You can use the system's context menu option to manually open the component package and manually copy the codec componebt to the correct folder on your Lion system.

  • Quicktime mpeg2

Just purchased and downloaded quicktime mpeg2 on my computer i have a mac os x to view video clips that i imported from my camcord but there is no audio during playback. I have confirmed there is audio on the videos. What can i do to correct this? Please help =]

QT does not support multiplexed MPEG-2/AC3 or multiplexed MPEG-2/PCM files. Use MPEG Streamclip for viewing and/or conversion of such files via the QT MPEG-2 Playback component to QT compatible compression formats. (VLC can also be used for viewing and HandBrake can be used for conversions but neither of these apps require the QT MPEG-2 Playback component.) Import via iMovie '08/'09/'11 automatically converts audio to linear PCM which is also supported by systems having iMovie '08/'09/'11 installed.

  • Problems operating Quicktime MPEG2 conversion

    Hi there,
I have copied my friend's sd card with his movie files which are .MOD and .MOI files which I understand are mpeg2 format. I have therefore downloaded the program "Quicktime MPEG2 conversion for OSX" but cannot see how to use it. I thought that it may have acted as a patch or upgrade with Quicktime but this is not immediately evident.
    Would dearly love some help.
    Justin

Mpeg 2 is the standard DVD delivery format, not intended for further editing.
You need to convert the mpeg2 files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.

  • QuickTime Flash plug-in

I am using Photo-to-Movie to create a movie from slides. In their instructions on putting movies on the web with flash they indicated I need a Flash encoder plug-in installed. They indicated using a QuickTime Flash plug-in. I could not find one on apple web site. Any ideas?

It appears that there is a different version of Photo to Movie for Leopard than for Tiger, because I can not find any instructions in my Help pdf about that.
My way would be to either follow their instructions on sending the movie to your .Mac account, or export to Quicktime and let QT convert for the web.

I don't really know why, but for some reason, I can't keep Quicktime from running through my Mozilla browser and opening within the browser window within Firefox when I download a .mp3 file.
