Quicktime MPEG2 Plugin - no audio playing VOB

I would really, really apreciate any help.
I have the latest MAC X on a macbook pro and minimac 1.86, both running latest version of QT7, not Pro. I installed the MPG2 plugin. I get video but no audio with VOB files. I was having the same problem with VLC on both machines, but I fix it changing the audio device from 0 to 1 on the preferences.
How can I get the QT to play it with audio?
I just want to play my ripped DVDs using the front row.
TKS a lot

QT Player can play only M1A a.k.a. MP2 audio in
MPEGs.
MPEG Streamclip can play also AC3 and PCM audio -- it
can also convert them to M1A audio that QT Player can
understand.
Thank you, it is very helpful information, because at least Streamclip is universal binary! But... it is not an absolute solution, because Streamclip is a converter - so it converts video, so it takes a lot of processor time...
If it is just a QuickTime extension...
However - Thanks!

  • Purchased Quicktime MPEG2. No audio.

What content are you trying to play in which application on what operating system? "Muxed" MPEG-2 content imported to iMovie for instance, should now be a MOV file containing all I-frame MPEG-2 video with AC3 audio converted to linear PCM. This file should play in almost any player on the importing system assuming the playing application/system is not muted. On the other hand, "muxed" MPEG-2/AC3 or MPEG-2/PCM content is not normally supported natively by QT (except by Lion and then only in a supported file container) since the MPEG-2 Playback component is a video only codec. MPEG Streamclip should be able to play/demux/convert "muxed" MPEG-2 content and if it doesn't then you may be looking at a more serious or complex problem and will have to provide more information and/or a sample of the problem content for examination/playback comparison on other systems/system configurations.

I have tried everthing to configure Quicktime to play videos with looking like a set of flashcards. I have upgraded to all the latest versions. I unchecked the "Enable direct3d video acceleration" in the Control Paned Quicktime Preferences and have set it to safe mode (GDI only) per the FAQ. But still I get halting video from video files on my harddrive (not from internet) while the audio plays just fine. Can anyone expain this and tell me how to correct it. My PC system is more than adequate so I do not understand why this occurs. Flash Player video plays just fine and only Quicktime video is a problem. PLEASE HELP! I am getting really SICK and TIRED of forums where pleas for help are ignored and are never receive a reply. Just like the player, your support STINKS! I cannot believe my problem has not occurred to hundreds of quicktime subscribers and that no one has a clue to this flashcard-like halting video problem.

  • Mov file won't play in quicktime on pc only audio plays

How do I get my mov file to play in Quicktime? The audio plays but the image doesn't appear -- it is just black or white.  Thanks.  If I need a codec, how do I get it?  I am using a PC not a Mac.

Use the Movie Inspector window to find out what video codec was used and a search of the Web to find a valid version.

  • Quicktime 7 plugin has audio issues on a particular site

The issue I'm currently having is with the Quicktime 7.7.1 plugin for Firefox.  I use Firefox 12,  running on OS Lion, and this plugin has some sound issue with a particular site I like to visit.  When playing audio midis, it sounds tinny and plunky/compressed.  I did not have this problem before Lion, but the plugin does work fine on other sites.  I tried to delete the Quicktime app. thinking it somehow became corrupted, but I may be wrong.  I had my data transferred from my old mac to the new one I have now.  I don't know if that could have affected the QT plugin somehow or what.  Any suggestions or ideas?

AFAIK, that plugin is for QT X, not QT 7.

  • Since 10.6.3 - Quicktime: MPEG2 muxed without audio

    as subject...
since 10.6.3 Update, I have no audio on MPEG2 muxed video, what was fine before as well as on my 10.6.2 backup.
I dont know if this is wanted or a bug, or depends on my config.
I did only the update and have no 3rd party codecs installed.

This does not work, and it worked before the 10.6.3 update:
As you note, program stream MPEG2/MP2 files are compatible and should play under under OS 10.6.3 for you the same as they do (as indicated above) for me. Since certain components (most notably the QT MPEG-2 Playback and Perian) became "disconnected" for some people originally upgrading to Snow Leopard, you might try re-installing the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component even if it is plainly visible in the appropriate folder and see if this makes any difference or you get a message saying a newer component is already installed. I.e., if you observed the upgrade process, did you note any mention of the installation of new components. I did, but am not sure if this referred to the installation of new/updated QT media components or not. Just thought I would mention it in case the upgrade process was interrupted and might be the source of your problem. (Just throwing out guesses here as I have nothing concrete to offer as to why my system continues to work properly but yours doesn't.)

  • The quicktime plugin doesn't play mp3 in Firefox

I've got a webpage with <a href="audiofile.mp3" target="a_frame">link text</a>.  This page is part of a website that I'm webmaster on.
Clicking on the link always plays the audio in Safari but is inconsistent in Firefox in my iMac (OSX 10.6.8).  Sometimes the file plays but mostly the click gets ignored.  I'm using Firefox 5.0.1 and the Quicktime plugin is 7.6.6.
I've tried this page on PC based browsers.  Chrome works every time.  IE mostly works but sometimes the audio plays but the player controls aren't displayed.  Firefox is inconsistent.
I've tried disabling other plugins.  Any ideas?

Your "direct link" code doesn't give any instructions to any browser plug-in. Without instructions each different page visitor will get different behavior. Some visitors settings would download the file and others would play the file using a different browser plug-in (Real Player or WMP for example).

  • Quicktime Audio plays - no video

Have a site (www.myefa.org) that is used by MANY worldwide to learn English. The site has been active for quite a few years and has streaming video. We use Quicktime exclusively and are rethinking that decision.
After the 7.1 and higher upgrades the site's video no longer works. We have CDs to use with the site (also containing video) that do not work anymore either. The audio plays the video does not.
We have our users "downgrading" to 6.5.2 and explain that iTunes won't work. They must choose and aren't too happy about it.
The site listed above is used in school lab settings and by individuals. Many support persons (including moi) have attempted "fixing" the problem to no avail. We have performed all Troubleshooting tips given on Apple's site along with tips given in this forum...nothing seems to work, including installing 3rd party codecs.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated. If you go to the site www.myefa.org, click on Visitor, then an episode. Choose any camera icon to see video...chances are pretty good you'll hear audio but see white video.
If you do get audio and video please forward your settings to [email protected]
Thanks in advance for any assist.
    Gateway   Windows XP Pro

Well, you've given us something to ponder. Thanks for that.
I also retried the CD's we have for the site (same video taken from the CD instead of streaming after clicking on the link) and get the following:
    - the plugin was found, but an error in the plugin occurred.
    - The plugin did not initialize properly.
From the Apple/Quicktime site the message is a wee bit different:
    - An error occurred inside the plug-in on this page. (interesting that plugin is hyphenated here).
Again, all help is welcome and I appreciate your response.

  • Safari Does Not Play QuickTime/.mpg Video, Only Audio

Quicktime video not playing in safari. Checked new user, issue persists, it's a system wide issue. All the settings are right. Worked before. Still works in Firefox and other browsers. Repaired permissions. Even video on the Apple site does not work. Flash still works, windows media content still works via Flip4Mac. I was just wondering if anyone discovered an easy fix for this issue. I don't feel like doing the archive and install (preserving) or re-imaging it. Everything is up to date except for the security update and itunes. Just stopped working tonight though, not right after I did the last updates. As I said. I know the traditional way to attack this, and even a couple time consuming non traditional ways. What I am looking for here is the quick fix (if there is one). Thanks.

Well, since we are all using different versions of Safari but the same version of QT, I headed over to the QT forum and found this - which seems to work for me.
I just dragged the file to the desktop, tho.
    "I removed the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin.
    Mac HD > Library > Internet Plug-Ins
    1. Drag QuickTime Plugin.webplugin to the trash.
    2. Relaunch Safari and the QuickTime video that was not playing previously.
    3. The video portion should now work."

  • Quicktime screen is white, but audio plays

This is not a universal problem. All my videos that played before still play. I use QTPro v. 7.1.3 on both my G4 & my MacPro.
I was handed an audio for video clean-up project, but the QT videos provided will not play - the screen is white, the timeline indicator moves, and the audio plays as it should. Through browsing, I have gleaned that I am missing the proper codec. How do I know which one? The video guy who handed me the project says that the videos were rendered by Apple Intermediate Codec. All I can find are upgrades for this, not initial installs. Is this even, in fact, what I am missing?
Secondarily, once I figure out the codec mess, I will need to export a compressed version for import into ProTools. Any suggestions there?

I have tried opening in iMovie. Same thing there. The AI codec version that is showing up as the blank paper icon in System Drive>Library>QuickTime is v1.1. The only other video components that accompany that one in that location are the 3rd party FlipForMac WMV components I installed seperately quite a while ago. It looks like all other video components are located in the other folder...
...In the other folder, (System Drive>System>Library>QuickTime), it seems that all kinds of video components are there, and their icons look like little grayish-black video screens. No AIC exists there though.
    I sure appreciate your help

  • Quicktime Movies - The audio plays but the video is completely messed up

    Hi.
I have QuickTime V7.2 and my OS is XP.
All of a sudden QuickTime started playing back QuickTime movies with no video - there is just a lot of flickering green and purple - however the audio is there. Oddly, the files used to play fine. They were made on my PC as QuickTime movie files. The sound is there. (Additionally the files play ok in Realplayer.)
I've searched techy support but can't find an answer. Any ideas what is wrong?
I made the files on movie editing software called ULead, and as I said, they used to play fine.
    Thanks very much.
    Gary

A very similar and, I suspect, related problem. I created .mov files on my Mac, they play fine on the Mac, the audio plays but flickering video on my PC. I suspect it has something to do with the codecs used. Anyone have an idea as to how to make them compatible?

  • How to use Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)

I have Apple mpeg2 plugin + Streamclip on my computer, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to use the two to open my DVD in imovie!
    Help~

Ooops! I had a copy of QTKirk's explanation positioned under the Apple link (didn't notice the source!), and thought that both were connected. Here's his explanation:
"Read the FAQ page so you understand completely before you buy.
Install this new software [Apple MPEG2 Playback] and quit and relaunch QT Player (if running).
Open QT Player and then insert your DVD. Quit DVD Player if it starts.
From the "File" menu of the QuickTime Player choose "Open File". Navigate to the DVD and its VIDEO_TS folder and click OK. Your file should now be playing in QuickTIme Player.
QuickTIme Pro can't edit or export this file with audio. It can't be imported into iMovie until it is converted.
Download and install MPEG Streamclip (free).
Open MPEG Streamclip, navigate to your DVD and choose the VIDEO_TS folder. Click OK and it will open in Streamclip.
Choose "Export" and pick DV Stream. Wait for the conversion to finish. It will make a new file (you name it).
Open iMovie and "Import" this new .dv file and make your edits, etc. "
It may be of use to the OP.
    Thanks, Sue:-)

  • MPEG2-Plugin doesn't work :o(

    Hy there,
a few days ago, I bought the MPEG2 Plugin for Quicktime. When I play a MPEG2 file with MP2 audio, there's only a white frame. I recorded the MPEG2-file via Elgato EyeTV (DVB-C) as direct streamcopy.
I don't really knwo why it doesn't work.
You can download a sample file to test it from the following http-adress.

I'm not aware that there is any unofficial MPEG-2 component for QT.
MPEG-2 Component will be upgraded to the Universal version only when you upgrade your QT to 7.1.5 or the version before 7.1.5.
I can playback your MPEG-2 video except that there is nothing in it. The screen is all dark through the entire length.

  • Multiplex a mpeg2 video and audio stream recorded via a satellite receiver

I would like to know if upgrading to QuickTime pro and/or adding the QuickTime MPEG2 add-on would allow me to multiplex a mpeg2 video and audio stream recorded via a European satellite receiver (like the Aston Xena 1800 HDU) in order to make movies that can later on be converted to be viewed on my iPod.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

No. The MPEG-2 component is to play MPEG-2 not encode it.
Use Toast. I assume you have separate audio and video transport streams, if they are named identically (1.m2v and 1.m2a) Toast will detect that and multiplex into a new MPEG-2. If not , add the video stream to Toast, which will ask for an audio stream to go with it. Either way it makes an MPEG-2 anew.
Of course you cannot use MPEG-2 in iPod so rip that DVD (Toast can make just an image and you can mount that) to get the VOB file, then use MPEG Streamclip or iSquint to convert the muxed MPEG-2 file to MP4 suitable for iPod.
Note I am very curious - are you sure this device delivers separate audio and video streams? Not a proper muxed MPEG-2 file? If the latter then just MPEG Streamclip or iSquint will do.

  • TS3961 Quicktime in Lion won't Play MPG/MPEG-2 format Video

I have OS X Lion but quicktime still says "QuickTime Player can't open "M2U02230.MPG" because a required codec isn't available."  Does anyone know what codec is needed?  Apple says that Lion will play MPEG-2/MPG format and MPEG-2 Playback Component is no

No, Quicktime does not natively play muxed formats.
    For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, as well as the the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
