QuickTime no audio

Hi
Since upgrading to Yosemite sites that I access that use the QuickTime plugin for wav files no longer play back audio.
The player appears and starts playing.. but no sound.
The plugin version is 7.7.3
Tested with Chrome on MAC. Similar issue with the QuickTime Plugin enabled.
If I disable it then Chromes inbuilt player does play the audio.
Anyone know how to fix this ?

I'm also having a similar issue: Audio does not initially play through my MOTU 828 mkII audio interface when choosing Quicktime Player 7.1.3 as the playback device for any sound file, and no sound on any video files. Also had this problem with earlier verisons of Quicktime 7. To have sound play back through the 828 using Quicktime, I must first toggle the output option to "built in audio", and then switch back to the 828 sound output option to get sound through the 828. And unfortuately, I have to do this EVERY time I launch a new sound file. I have never had this problem before. Any ideas? I've already done an archive and install on the MAC, which did not help. I've also updated all my thrid party audio drivers.

    after exporting a video from imovie, to quicktime, the audio has been duplicated. How can I fix this?

    iMovie works best with uncompressed audio. If your track is MP3 or AAC, you may get better results by converting your track to the AIFF format and then using that in iMovie.
    You can do this in iTunes. Go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General button. On the General page, click the Import Settings button. Choose IMPORT USING: AIFF ENCODER.
    (note: remember what you changed it from so you can change it back later, before you import another CD)
    Now, in iTunes, select your track. Then click FILE/CREATE NEW VERSION/AIFF VERSION.

    Audio on the timeline, especially stream, tends to play very reliably. Is this project under any NDA or can you provide a FLA to examine? Let me know if you want to private message it and I'll shoot you a message.

  • Export a Quicktime puts audio out of sync.

    Hi
    I've just cut some footage capture on my iPhone.
    When I export the quicktime the audio is out of sync. When I play the final cut timeline it's fine.
    Any suggestions please?

    Hi - Do you want the detailed explanation or the quickest solution?
    If the quickest solution:
    Click anywhere on your timeline.
    Type Command + 0 (zero) to bring up your sequence settings.
    When it opens change
    !http://www.spotsbeforeyoureyes.com/SeqSettingH264.jpg!
    to this:
    !http://www.spotsbeforeyoureyes.com/SeqSetting422LT.jpg!
    and click OK.
    When you have done that a red render bar will appear over your sequence, click anywhere on the timeline and type Command + A and the type Command + R to render it all.
    Now export your Quicktime movie.
    Hope this helps. If you want the detailed explanation post back.

  • Strange QuickTime conversion audio problem

    QuickTime on my G5 will no longer export Final Cut files properly as H.264 - the video is perfect, but the audio just stops after about 1'30.
    This never used to happen. I have tried with FCP container files and with FCP self-contained files, and the problem is the same. It started before the QuickTime upgrade, but even after upgrading, it is still happening.
    Yet when I moved the exact same FCP file over to my MacBook Pro, and tried an export with the same settings as I used on the G5, it worked fine.
    I can also do this export fine on the G5 with software such as MPEG Streamclip - just not QuickTime.
    What on earth could be wrong that QuickTime's audio is failing at 1'30?

    I confirmed that it's either a QT 7.2 issue, or OS 10.4.10 issue (guess which I think is more likely :-)).
    I moved the iMovie to my wife's macbook, who thankfully usually hits cancel when the software update screen appears so it was still on 7.1.6 and OS 10.4.9. The movie exported fine. Not a great test, since I was changing processor types, iMovie versions, and OS versions, but it did work. Then I upgraded her to 7.2 and 10.4.10 (in retrospect, should have just done 7.2 to only change one thing, oh well), did the exact same export procedure, and the audio was corrupted the exact way that my computer broke it.
    So it's in one of those components for sure. I opened a bug, #5345205, for what it's worth. Hopefully they'll be able to replicate somehow and issue a fix. too bad there's no easy way to rollback an update.

  • HT3775 Why doesn't QuickTime play audio for some avi videos?

    Why doesn't QuickTime play audio for some avi videos? Is there a download to help resovle this.
    I am running Mountain Lion, I have also installed flipformac, divx, and vlc. They are working fine.
    Appreciate your answers.

    You can only use QuickTime Player 7 to play that 12 year old format.

  • MP4 Plays Fine in Quicktime, but Audio Lags Near Clip's End in WMP. Huh?

    This is weird. I've made several MP4s in Premiere Pro CS6, some only 10 minutes long, and the audio goes a bit out of sync (lagging behind) only in WMP, not Quicktime, when playing the rendered MP4. QT plays it all just fine. Is there something needing to be set in Premiere or AME to make it all stay sync'ed and play fine in any player?
    Quick backstory: I shoot 1920x1080p DSLR video at 24fps (23.97#) and I capture audio separately on a Tascam portable at 24-bit 96kHz (which is think is 29.97) and toss it onto a Pr Pro CS6 timeline. I do use the cruddy camera audio just for syncing then ALT+Click to separate the camera's audio track and delete it, leaving the now-synced good audio in place. Then I toss a few transitions and effects (mostly color grading) on the video, nothing fancy, and export out an .MP4 from Premiere which of course fires up AME. I think the problem is the preset I'm picking. A screenshot of my AME settings is attached. I am using one of the presets for Apple TV/iPad/iPhone which is basically renders the video down to 1280x720p with H.264 compression (no surprise that Quicktime plays it back without issue). I'm assuming a codec comes into play here, or just WMP being stupid? I know what a codec is but I don't Premiere which one to use (I assume you can), so if that's the answer please elaborate a bit when you answer, lol. I'm a seasoned photographer and a fairly green video editor (and a lousy video shooter, lol!).
    As a further test, I sent the timeline out to an MP4 again but this time I simply chose H.264 and picked the HD 23.976 1080p preset which does use different VBR, etc. That video plays fine in both, but a 10-minute MP4 is almost 2GB! I was hoping for something in the 100mb-150mb range so I could YouSendIt out to people, and the lousy AppleTV/iPhone 4 720p H.264 preset does give me a filesize in that range.
    Any thoughts on what to set to get a workable filesize of <200mb with a 720p clip that actually works in WMP as well as QT? I hope I'm even asking the question correctly.
    Thanks!

    Harm, I didn't pay attention to those settings, I should have. I got hung up in the preset names and figured those were my only choices. How green I am, lol. I made a preset with a Target of 4 (max 6) and VBR 1 Pass, and I knocked the audio down to 128K being it's just speech, and it all worked great. The new file plays in both players perfectly and also plays on my iPad with no jitter. Filesize is about 240mb but that's fine, it works. Problem solved and in the books. BTW, I use a GTX570.
    Jim, I agree, VLC is super, it was the only player that would play 5D Mark II files right out of camera back in 2008, on my dual core Dell laptop with a cheesy Nvidia 7900 graphics card. Problem is, the majority of people I'm sending these MP4s to are Mums & Dads in our church, etc, and you know quite well that those folks are running some consumer Dell or HP setup they bought at Costco on closeout.
    Funny backstory, when the 5D2 came out in Sept 2008, that was what thrust me into video. So I immediately bought the Prod Premium CS4 Suite (already owned Photoshop for a few years being a stills guy) and installed it on that Dell 17" laptop I mentioned above. After getting the 5D2 finally in Jan 2009, I actually had the nerve to take my first attempt at creating a video in Premiere and encoding it on that laptop. I literally had to kill AME partway through because I was seconds away from burning out my processor (I had been using RealTemp because of how hot that thing ran using Word, lol). It was that event that made me convince myself to start researching how to build a real editing PC (using an i7 920 at the time). I probably drove Harm nuts back then with all my questions, lol! But this rig has been my workhorse and has been through countless upgrades, the only thing remaining from the original 2009 build is the case and the power supply.
    I know, you guys didn't need all that info, just felt like shooting the breeze. Thanks again!

  • Large .dv file plays fine in Quicktime, but audio out of sync in iMovie??

    hi,
    i'm trying to convert some old analog 8mm tapes to digital. to do this, i'm using a sony trv320 camcorder with firewire feeding iMovie '08. i've imported an entire 2 hour tape into iMovie, and everything is fine except that at some point, the audio gets out of sync from the picture. i've opened the huge 24 GB .dv file in Quicktime, and everything is in sync, so I assume this is some kind of problem related to iMovie. i've done lots of searching on this and have made sure that the camcorder is sending 16 bit audio out. i also tried using mpeg streamclip to split the huge .dv file into smaller parts, but this resulted in the same audio sync problem (which is weird).
    is my only option to manually import my tapes 10 minutes at a time? please say no
    the most puzzling thing about this is that the huge .dv file is perfectly in sync all the way through when playing back in Quicktime.
    i'm at a loss!! hope someone can help.

    I've edited in FCP and exported with compressor with all the appropriate settings, to mpeg 2.
    Double check to make sure that you edited in Anamorphic and also encoded as 16:9 video not 4:3 - also make sure you set the Track to 16:9 Letterbox in DVD SP.
    What encoding rates did you use for the video and audio? Sometimes if the rates are too high it can cause drifts.
    On the audio side, did you export the FCP as self contained and make the audio AC3? Also you can try just exporting the audio as an AIF and encode that as an AC3.
    How did you burn the DVD (Speed and Media used?) Sometimes bad burns/media can cause issues.

  • QuickTime movie made in QuickTime 7 audio not playing back in qt 10

    I made a qt using qt 7 pro, H.264 with the AAC audio compressor and that qt will not play back audio in QuickTime 10 which is what my client has on his computer.

    The point being here is that I rendered out a movie in QuickTime pro 7 and the audio isn't being resolved in QuickTime 10, even on my own computer.
    Does the audio play correctly in the QT 7 Player? Have you determined if this is a playback or a conversion problem? I asked about the source file since some source compression formats will not convert the audio using QT 7 Pro. In a similar manner, some AAC data rate and sampling rate combinations are not supported on the Mac which is why QT is programmed to disallow their use. (Unfortunately, I do not know what would happen if a source file using such audio settings were to be used as a source for a QT 7 Pro conversion.)
    How is this possible and should I just remove qt10 altogether?
    As already indicated, there are a number of "normal" problems that could give these results. In addition, QT changes made as part of the most recent Lion OS update seem to have had adverse effects on QT 7 Pro features (as evidenced by the loss of the "loop" playback feature and "green screen" problems on some platforms). As to the removal of QT 10, the embedded structures cannot be removed without corrupting the operating system. And, while the QT X player can be removed/deleted, why bother since you can just as easily opt not to use it for manual playback and restoring it, should you later change your mind, may present a problem.
    I am a professional editor, have been working on Macs since 1992 (Avid and FCP7) and have never had a compatibility problem like this before within the Mac environment.
    Have you made any recent changes to your normal work flow that might account for this problem and is the problem consistently repeatable?

  • Issues with embedding QuickTime for audio

    Two issues when playing audio files via a web browser (tried with Chrome and IE8):
    If I use wmode=transparent the control buttons are not shown, only the progress bar. When I removed wmode=transparent it worked fine. Is this correct behavior?
    Some browsers still invoke the embed part instead of the object part. I thought all browsers used object now.
    Here's the markup I now generate (in PHP):
    $output .= "<object classid=clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B codebase=http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab>";
    $output .= "<param name=src value='" . $url . "' />";
    $output .= "<param name=autoplay value=false />";
    $output .= "<param name=controller value=true />";
    $output .= "<param name=bgcolor value=FFFFFF />";
    $output .= "<embed src='" . $url . "' autoplay=false controller=true bgcolor=FFFFFF pluginspage=http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/>";
    $output .= "</embed>";
    $output .= "</object> ";

  • Quicktime has audio, no video

    Ever since "day one" of owning my iPod shuffle (over a year), Quicktime has never worked. I get neon color static on the screen, no video, but I do get audio. I have reloaded several times and finally gave up and just open my videos with Real Player. Today, I downloaded Quicktime's latest version alone (without iTunes) and I still have same problem with new latest program. Any suggestions? My videos are all Quicktime format.

    Open QuickTime Player and under the Edit menu choose Preferences/QuickTime Preferences. This will open the QuickTime Control Panel.
    Under Advanced tab and the Video area remove the check mark for DirectX and try Safe mode. Click the Apply button and try the file again.

  • Use Applescript to have Quicktime record audio

    I need to record and store an audio file of approximately 20 minutes in length in Filemaker Pro 13. I thought I could use Applescript to Launch Quicktime to do the recording, then tell Quicktime what folder to store it in as an MP3 file. I can't seem to understand the Quicktime dictionary to figure out how to do this.

    Thank You. I figured out what I needed to do. I did however also start playing around with applescript and seeing how one can read messages using applescript. Every example that I saw used the "get selection" term after the "tell application 'mail' " command. I guess that is supposed to get every message in the mailbox. When I tried it, all I got was an empty array. It didn't matter if I had a mailbox selected or a message selected. It also didn't matter if it was a new message or one that was already read. Is there supposed to be another command before the get selection? Seeing how this command seems to be in several examples that I have seen on the internet, I have to assume that it should work but it isn't working for me.

  • Why doesn't Quicktime play audio in double speed any longer?

    Until recently, a person could click on the FF button to play a video/audio file in double speed and hear the audio. This was especially helpful when watching/listening to lectures. Now when you play in double speed there is no audio. What happened? Is there a glitch in the software? I hope the feature is returned to its former design.

    Finally figured it out the solution! (This only applies to Mac users.)
    Firefox 3.x ran in 32-bit mode and Quicktime 7.x runs in 32-bit mode, so the two programs worked just fine together. The new Firefox 4.x, however, runs in 64-bit mode, so the 32-bt Quicktime 7.x plug-in no longer works correctly.
    Luckily the fix is simple: just switch Firefox 4.x from 64-bit mode down to 32-bit mode. Here's how:
    [] Close Firefox 4.0
    [] Highlight the Firefox icon in the Applications folder
    [] Click COMMAND-i to open the Get Info window
    [] Click on the box marked: OPEN IN 32-BIT MODE and close the window
    [] Launch Firefox
    You can now save Quicktime files as before, assuming you have Quicktime Pro.
    [] After closing Firefox, you can un-check the OPEN IN 32-BIT MODE box so Firefox will once again run in 64-bit mode.

  • QuickTime Pro: Audio Settings disabled

    I'm trying to add background music to a video in QT, and need to lower the volume so it doesn't drown out the narration. Went into Properties, clicked on "Audio Settings" & none of the options will do anything. Everything's either grayed out or unresponsive. Sliders won't move. Same result with recorded music and a voice track I just recorded, so it isn't limited to a protected, copyrighted song. Am I missing something necessary to do this? Is there any other way to adjust volume in music tracks?

    Do you have the Pro version of QuickTime Player?
